Ms. Quoting a Diddly

Miss Quoting rode a pony,
that was too small
for her fat fanny.
It seems her legs
were a bit wobbly,
and she was eventually
put into retirement.
I know it is true because,
I myself have
visited her once or twice.

Ms. Quoting met with ignorance,
a friend of mine to whom college was attending.
Punctuation was a problem in her behavior.
So she was sentenced
to a life of ill-repute.
I received the impression
that english was not her language,
and she was literally challenged.

The Weight (feat. The Staple Singers)

(The Band)
I pulled in to Nazareth, was feeling 'bout half past dead
I just need some place where I can lay my head
''Hey mister, can you tell me where a man might find a bed?''
He just grinned and shook my hand, ''No'' was all he said
Take a load off, Fanny
Take a load for free
Take a load off, Fanny
And you put the load right on me
I picked up my bag, I went looking for a place to hide
When I saw Carmen and the Devil walking side by side
I said ''Hey Carmen, come on, let's go downtown''
She said ''I gotta go but my friend can stick around''
Take a load off, Fanny
Take a load for free
Take a load off, Fanny
And you put the load right on me
Go down Miss Moses, there's nothing you can say
It's just old Luke, and Luke's waiting on the judgement day
''Well, Luke my friend, what about young Anna-Lee?''
He said ''Do me a favour son, won't you stay and keep Anna-Lee
company?''
Take a load off, Fanny
Take a load for free
Take a load off, Fanny
And you put the load right on me
Crazy Chester followed me and he caught me in the fog
He said ''I will fix your rat if you'll take Jack my dog''
I said ''Wait a minute Chester, you know I'm a peaceful man''
He said ''That's okay boy, won't you feed him when you can?''
Take a load off, Fanny
Take a load for free
Take a load off, Fanny
And you put the load right on me
Catch a cannonball now to take me down the line
My bag is sinking low and I do believe it's time
To get back to Miss Fanny, you know she's the only one
Who sent me here with her regards for everyone
Take a load off, Fanny
Take a load for free
Take a load off, Fanny
And you put the load right on me

Letter to A Friend

The problem is, friend of mine
Somewhere along the way
You became...
Somehow,
Important to me.
The problem with that is..
There is a problem with that
And, I don't want to contemplate what it could mean.
So,
I push at it.
And
Shove it away.
I stomp on it
Trying to make it..
While
Simultaneously
Afraid it will break.
This
Whatever
It is..
I know we've been dancing around it
The giant pink elephant in the room.
But,
It can't be me..
Won't be.
You'll have to take that first giant step.
And, please..
Make it an obvious one.
Because all this tip toeing around it
Has me confused.
What if I have the audacity to assume too much?
What if I'm reading into some harmless fun?
What if it's all in jest?
The problem, you see
Is I may want it to be..
And, I'm afraid of where all this may
Or
May not lead.
The problem is, friend of mine
I miss you, when you aren't around.
And think of you and the time we spent..
And, wish I was there all over again.
The problem is, friend of mine
I seriously don't know what to do..
In this situation that is
Or isn't
With this unspoken thing
This tug of war
With me and you.

Loveknots

In the community of this website
like a girdle round the earth
(did you read that, Will?) ,
sharing the inner lives,
the hearts laid open in poetry,

I see that love

brings insecurity,
and disillusion (where there was illusion) ,
and bitterness at love that's not returned
or worse, withdrawn,
and sometimes hate,
distrust,
withdrawal from love perhaps the worst

and is there any remedy?

only a small crumb of communal solace
and a curious technological discovery (thanks to our webmaster) :

that 'my' poem quoting a friend:

'What you think you lack - give that..'
(because by giving, you find you have it
and can never lose it, lack it)

has had 100 times more hits than any other poem of mine.

I leave you with that thought.

Is Ignorance Really Bliss

Godly Knowledge is rare today, as we're told that ignorance is bliss,
Take a look into some of the faces that you simply just can't miss.

As you look in their eyes, is there an inner peace and joy displayed,
Or do you see an unsettled darkness that almost appears engraved?

Your eyes The Lord had said are the windows to the soul, to see,
A little tiny glimpse my friend, of what kind of person they may be.

If his eyes are bad, The Lord said, his body is filled with darkness,
If this is so, I can assure you now that he is not filled with bliss.

If his eyes are good, again He said, his body is filled with light,
Therefore friend, I can assure you that he's on a path that's right.

Now that we are Children of God we no longer belong to the night,
For when we became Born Again we truly received new sight.

This new sight we receive brings a true understanding of our Lord,
He is the only one you see, who should not and will not be ignored.

To continue to willfully ignore The Lord's awesome revelation,
Will bring you not a life of bliss, but also eternal condemnation.

So ignorance my friend, is definitely not the path for you to take,
For those who do are the only people that He will eternally forsake.

So knowledge of The Lord, not ignorance, is the key to the only door,
To a life of bliss with The Savior down here, and life forevermore.

True friend

A true friend will be there for you no matter what
A true friend will listen to you if you have a problem
A true friend will care for you
A true friend offer you gum but not cigarettes
A true friend helps you to walk away from a fight but not to start a fight
A true friend will let you to cry on their shoulder
A true friend will never judge you
A true friend will have your back when you get in trouble
A true friend is hard to find
A true friend will be there to the end

Who's To Blame

Oh Mother Ghana; Mother Ghana
What has happened to you?
What has happened to your culture?
They say we've fold arms against 'Vernacular' language
Instead opened arms wide to 'English' language

Oh Mother Ghana Mother Ghana
Why?
At school, we are taught the things we do not know
By the 'English' language
Why not 'Vernacular' language?

Oh Mother Ghana, Oh Mother Ghana
Where is your true identity as pure African?
Where is your pride as true Ghanaian?

Oh Mother Ghana, Oh Mother Ghana,
Day after day
When we put on the uniform as students
We are forbidden to speak 'Vernacular' language
Instead the 'English' language
Why Mother Ghana, why Mother Ghana?
When we speak 'Vernacular' language; your culture,
They say: 'Speak English' someone's culture!
When we speak 'English' that someone's culture
They say: 'Abrofosem; speak vernacular language' your culture!

Oh Mother Ghana, Oh Mother Ghana
Who's to blame?
'English or Vernacular language'
Oh Mother Ghana; Oh Mother Ghana.

A True Friend

A true friend is always there for you
A true friend will help you no matter ther problem
A true friend is like a sister, she knows your better, than you know yourself
A true friend is someone who knows when you're sad, ans can cheer you up when you need it most
A true friend is someone that can make you laugh no matter what they say or do
A true friend is someone who believes in you
A true friend will stick by your side
A true friend is someone you can call just if you need a shoulder to lean on
But most of all a true friend will never leave you

yes, what if God does not speak english at all?

you were not born yesterday
and probably heard it before

that if your God does not speak english
then he must not be God

of course, something arrogant
hangs in the air
of this effortless superiority that
'englishers'
'english-plongplangs'
clai m, which, of course, we
always oppose and dub
as prettry dumb silly

but anyhow, yes, we are asked again
what if?
what if, this God, does not really speak English?

well, of course, he is still God
and he must not have considered the english language
that important

and i agree, even if i speak it,
i still have this language
of my soul,

albeit, in english, for you,
who does not speak my own language,

yes, of course, for you to perhaps
understand,

but i like it though, this thought
that God does not speak
the english language, lest, he may sound

so englishly, oh well,
arrogant.....

dear God
do you really...not speak english?

The Language I Feel Most At Home In

THE LANGUAGE I FEEL MOST AT HOME IN

The language I feel most at home in
Is not my own.
My own sacred language
Is my second best.
English is too great for me
And I am not like Joyce
Able to contend with and transcend it –
I write my small lines in the language
Shakespeare is the glass of fashion and the mould of form of –
I one more minor actor in a cast of many millions
Play my words upon the page as best I can.
But why mind and remember me and mine
When there are so many and so so much far greater?

New Pony

Once I had a pony, her name was lucifer
I had a pony, her name was lucifer
She broke her leg and she needed shooting
I swear it hurt me more than it could ever have hurted her
Sometimes I wonder whats going on in the mind of miss x
Sometimes I wonder whats going on in the mind of miss x
You know she got such a sweet disposition
I never know what the poor girls gonna do to me next
I got a new pony, she knows how to fox-trot, lope and pace
Well, I got a new pony, she knows how to fox-trot, lope and pace
She got great big hind legs
And long black shaggy hair above her face
Well now, it was early in the mornin, I seen your shadow in the door
It was early in the mornin, I seen your shadow in the door
Now, I dont have to ask nobody
I know what you come here for
They say youre usin voodoo, your feet walk by themselves
They say youre usin voodoo, I seen your feet walk by themselves
Oh, baby, that God you been prayin to
Is gonna give ya back what youre wishin on someone else
Come over here pony, i, I wanna climb up one time on you
Come over here pony, i, I wanna climb up one time on you
Well, youre so bad and nasty
But I love you, yes I do

Retirement Rendezvous

Retirement rendezvous
There is a member who is new
Who requires some type of rescue!
Looking back at life’s preview

He has had his kids
Been wise and stupid
Smoked enough weed
Aging exhibits on both eyelids

Retirement rendezvous
No more young dreams to pursue

A time he was young with hope
Goals matured and developed
But time took away that potential scope

Retirement rendezvous
Old age has at last struck for true

Retirement rendezvous
Today he joins the old pensioners’ crew

Stuck in his fresh basement
He scorns retirement at its commencement
With continuous utter resentment
Thinking it is a washed up experiment

Retirement rendezvous
Today, old age seems to be of no value

Retirement rendezvous
A new life and a new official venue

Retirement rendezvous
Some meet at the post office queue
Others meet at the bookies avenue
Leaving only when the night is due

The alarm clock has ceased ringing
The ladies have stopped singing
The bread winner is no longer bringing
To him nothing anymore is inspiring!

Retirement rendezvous
Why is life such a screw?

Retirement rendezvous
Is this a new life for true?

Retirement rendezvous
His thoughts he has to subdue
For him life still continues
Forthwith he looks at life with a new view!
