I would if I could I’d make a poem

Auditions

I would if I could I’d make a poem
the best you have ever seen
Then you’d see me as I see you
when I see your heart in me

I know I’ll need all the right words
and all in their proper places
I may also need a miracle, If
I’m to capture your embraces

I arranged to hold auditions
but so many words applied
‘big ones pushing to the front
the small ones knocked aside

Piled high in the wings together
all contending for position
Each one claiming a special
gift, an emotion or a mission

Some claimed subtleties of meanings
beyond their usage or their years
Others claimed ‘lyrical syncopation’
like some lexiconic engineers

One insisted – it could offer
Rhythm, Rhyme and alliteration
And simile and harmony
and a yet more syncopation

Those that failed were outraged
making war on the chosen few
in the end my poem collapsed
when they tore the thing in two

As I walked out at the end of the day
with my dreams of love deflated
I saw you with them in a bar nearby
singing a song that they’d created…..

…………………….My piccolo is a big oboe
…………………….beside your synthesizer
…………………….so bang my drum
…………………….and I’ll bite your bum
…………………….and we’ll have fun for hours

What do you mean?
The hell you were?
What, you were auditioning me?
What's he got that I don't?

…………………….My piccolo is a big oboe
…………………….beside your synthesizer
…………………….so bang my drum
…………………….and I’ll bite your bum
…………………….and we’ll have fun for hours

Bang A Drum

I went to see the preacher
To teach me how to pray
He looked at me and smiled
Then the preacher turned away
He said if you want to tell him something
You ain't gotta fold your hands
Say it with your heart
Your soul and believe it
And I'd say amen
Bang a drum for the sinners
Bang a drum for the sins
Bang a drum for the losers
And those who win
Bang a drum bang it loudly
Or as soft as you need
Bang a drum for yourself son
And a drum for me
I called upon my brother just the
Other day

Dont Bang The Drum

Here we stand
In a special place
What are you gonna do here?
Now we stand
In a special place
What will you do here?
What show of soul
Are we gonna get from you
It could be deliverance
Or history under these skies
So blue
Could be something true...
...but if I know you
Youll bang the drum like monkeys do
Here we are in this fabulous place
What are you you gonna dream here?
We are standing in this fabulous place
What will you play here?
I know you love the high life
You life to leap around
You love to beat your chest
And make your sound
But not here man
- this is sacred ground
With a power flowing through...
..and if I know you
Youll bang the drum like monkeys do
Here we stand
On a rocky shore
Your father stood here before you
I can see his ghost explore you
I can feel the sea implore you
Not to pass on by
Not to walk on by
Not to try...
...just let it come
Dont bang the drum
Just let it come
Dont bang the drum
Just a-let it come
Dont bang the drum
Do you know how to let it come now?
Dont bang the drum now...
Just let it come now
Dont bang the drum
Just let it come
Dont bang the drum...

Bang On The Drum All Day

I don't want to work
I want to bang on the drum all day
I don't want to play
I just want to bang on the drum all day
Ever since I was a tiny boy
I don't want no candy
I don't want no toy
I took a stick and an old coffee can
I bang on that thing 'til I got
Blisters on my hand
Because...
When I get older they think I'm a fool
The teacher told me I should stay after school
She caught me pounding on the desk with ny hands
But my licks were so hot
I made the teacher want to dance
And that's why...
Listen to this
Every day when I get home from work
I feel so frustrated
the boss is a jerk
And I get my sticks and go out to the shed
And i pound on that drum like it was the boss's head
Because..
I CAN BANG ON THAT DRUM
HEY, YOU WANT TO TO A BANG AT IT?
i CAN DO THIS ALL DAY

Bang & Blame

If you could see yourself now, baby
Its not my fault
You used to be so in control
Youre going to roll right over this one
Just roll me over, let me go
Youre laying blame
Take this as no, no, no
You bang, bang, bang, bang and bang,
Blame, blame, blame
You bang, bang, bang, bang and bang,
Its not my thing so let it go.
If you could see yourself now baby,
The tables have turned
The whole world hinges on your swings
Your secret life of indiscreet discretions
Id turn the screw and leave the screen,
Dont point your finger,
You know thats not my thing
You came to bang, bang, bang, bang and bang,
Blame, blame, blame
You bang, bang, bang, bang and bang,
Its not my thing so let it go.
Youve got a little worry,
I know it all too well,
Ive got your number,
But so does every kiss-and-tell
Who dares to cross your threshold,
Or happens on your way,
Stop laying blame.
You know thats not my thing.
You know thats not my thing,
You came to bang, bang, bang, bang and bang,
Blame, blame, blame
You bang, bang, bang, bang and bang,
Its not my thing so let it go.
You bang, bang, bang, bang and bang,
Blame, blame, blame
You bang, bang, bang, bang and bang,
Its not my thing so let it go.
You kiss on me, tug on me, rub on me, jump on me,
You bang on me, beat on me, hit on me, let go on me,
You let go on me.

(LBB) Man Created the Poem

In the beginning Man created the poem
And it was good

In the end Man saw what he had done
What the poem had become and like poetry
He killed himself

Man saw the poem was without form,
And man said, let there be stanzas and man divided the words
And man saw the poem that it was good but could be better?
And then Man said let there be...
Meter
Verse
Rhythm
Rhyme
Cyn icism
Sarcasm
Subtleties
Innuendo
Imp lications
Alliteration
Repetition
Humor
Humor
Sadness
Sadness
Irony
And you still didn’t get it so

In the midst of what he had created
Man lost his way
Lost control of what he had made
And Said let there be competition
And from that last attempt to save a culture:

Pretentiousness
Arrogance
Ignorance
Flash and flare
Visuals
Over-over exaggeration
The same ol’ song and dance
Lies
Overused and abused
Superficial subject matter

In the end Man saw the poem, that it wasn’t good or bad
It
Just was…
Man saw the pome, that it was the same
Man saw the pome
It was the same
Man saw the next poem and it was the same
The same
The same
It was no longer extra ordinary, or different, just ordinary
Man saw what he had done
What the poem had become:

The most precious and vital form of human communication corrupted and made irrelevant due to human competition

A Poem Does Not Have to Rhyme

There are those who think in order for a poem to have rhythm it must rhyme, but a poem does not have to rhyme to have rhythm.
The rhythm comes for the poet’s soul not the rhyming of words.
The rhythm is in emotions that the poet’s poem evokes.
From a soulful cry to feeling of love and from the passion of hate to the awakening of understanding this is the beat, the rhythm of a poem. Now don’t get me wrong if a poem rhyme and has soul it is cool too, but I just wanted everyone to know that a poem does not have to rhyme.

Written by lindsey buckingham.
Afraid to move
Afraid to lose
A piece of faith
A piece of heart
Surprised to find someone willing to lose
Just to keep herself from falling apart
Bang the drum
Bang it louder
She said, one thing, baby, I think you should know,
This world treats me oh so rough
Got this deep down sorrow that wont let go
And I just dont think Im tough enough.
Bang the drum
Bang it louder

The Poem Of All The Places I Have Never Been

THE POEM OF ALL THE PLACES I HAVE NEVER BEEN

The poem of all the places I have never been
The poem of all the dreams I have not seen
The poem of others poems written in lines I have never imagined
The poem of the infinite – what-is- not and ‘what- will- never- be
The poem of seas and suns and sounds and Shakespeare’s sonnets,
The poem of words and only words whose sounds do not mean what we feel
The poem of all I would not and cannot write
The poem that is not and never will be in me
The poem I do not write
The poem I am not
The poem lost
The poem which itself is not a poem
The poem of the last contradiction and the first
The poem beyond the poem hidden within the poem
The poem which will never be a poem
The poem which is not
The poem I cannot dream.

A Lover's Melody or And from the Oboe Came a Pretty Sound

And from the oboe came a pretty sound
The crescendo called love
From the bell that was his lover's heart
More beautiful than anything
Vivaldi could compose
True, she was an oboe
Alone, in an orchestra of drums, saxophones, and pianos
But she met a guitar
A beautifully carved acoustic instrument
That made a sound like no other
She'd ever heard

Together they made sweet, sweet music
The love-struck oboe wanted to stay
With the guitar, cut a deal, and
Make some records
But, alas, the guitar
Was completely unaware
Of the melody the oboe was playing

From the oboe came a pretty sound
And the guitar, he sung back
Of the returned love
The oboe was looking for,
It was a tune of lament—sad and slow
For he knew he could not give her
What she desired
So he set himself on fire
And from the guitar came a descend

When the oboe found her lover she
picked up what was left of he
and put it in a box of oak
and sailed it off to sea

the oboe knew no sad songs
but she wanted to sing him a tune
so on the beautiful sunset on June
she hummed him what she knew…

…and from the oboe came a pretty sound

Bang The Drum Slowly

(Emmylou Harris/Guy Clark)
I meant to ask you how to fix that car
I always meant to ask you about the war
And what you saw across a bridge too far
Did it leave a scar
Or how you navigated wings of fire and steel
Up where heaven had no more secrets to conceal
And still you found the ground beneath your wheels
How did it feel
Bang the drum slowly play the pipe lowly
To dust be returning from dust we begin
Bang the drum slowly I'll speak of things holy
Above and below me world without end
I meant to ask you how when everything seemed lost
And your fate was in a game of dice they tossed
There was still that line that you would never cross
At any cost
I meant to ask you how you lived what you believed
With nothing but your heart up your sleeve
And if you ever really were deceived
By the likes of me
Bang the drum slowly play the pipe lowly
To dust be returning from dust we begin
Bang the drum slowly I'll speak of things holy
Above and below me world without end
Gone now is the day and gone the sun
There is peace tonight all over Arlington
But the songs of my life will still be sung
By the light of the moon you hung
I meant to ask you how to plow that field
I meant to bring you water from the well
And be the one beside you when you fell
Could you tell
Bang the drum slowly play the pipe lowly
To dust be returning from dust we begin
Bang the drum slowly I'll speak of things holy
Above and below me world without end

As The Troops Went Through

I heard this day, as I may no more,
The world's heart throb at my workshop door.
The sun was keen, and the day was still;
The township drowsed in, a haze of heat.
A stir far off on the sleepy hill,
The measured beat of their buoyant feet,
And the lilt and thrum
Of a little drum,
The song they sang in a cadence low,
The piping note of a piccolo.

The township woke, and the doors flew wide;
The women trotted their boys beside.
Across the bridge on a single heel
The soldiers came in a golden glow,
With throb of song and the chink of steel,
The gallant crow of the piccolo.
Good and brown they were,
And their arms swung bare.
Their fine young faces revived in me
A boyhood's vision of chivalry.

The lean, hard regiment tramping down,
Bushies, miners and boys from town.
From 'mid the watchers the road along
One fell in line with the khaki men.
He took the stride, and he caught their song,
And Steve went then, and Meneer, and Ben,
Long Dave McCree,
And the Weavers three,
All whisked away by the “Come! Come! Come!”
The lusty surge of the vaunting drum.

I swore a prayer for each soldier lad.
He was the son that might have had;
The tall, bold boy who was never mine,
All brave with dust that the eyes laughed through,
His shoulders square, and his chin in line,
Was marching too with the gallant few.
Passed the muffled beat
Of their swanking feet,
The swell of drum, the exulting crow,
The wild-bird note of the piccolo.

They dipped away in the listless trees;
A mother wept on her beaded knees
For sons gone out to the long war's end;
But more than mother or man wept I
Who had no son in the world to send.
The hour lagged by, and drifting high
Came the fitful hum
Of the little drum,
And faint, but still with an ardent flow,
The pibroch, call of the piccolo.

Bang Bang

Wow, this aint the right thing to do
So, so let, so lets go
Young girls they know what theyre after
Young girls dont kiss me goodbye
Rockets shooting up into space
Buildings they rise to the skies
Bang bang I got mine
Bang bang reach for the sky
I keep a good friend on videotape
Hell drive his sports car until its too late
But well have a hot time on the town tonight
Cause love is my bet and its the best yet
Bang bang I got mine
Bang bang sun dont shine
Bang bang you all angels
Bang bang now you all ought to be in pictures
Oh girl
Oh girl my problems cant follow me
Phone calls I take my machine
I wander lonely to the sea
Lonely-ha ha ha-what does it mean
Bang bang I got mine
Bang bang and you are next in line
Bang bang reach for the sky
Bang bang sun dont shine
Rise buildings
Rise to the sky
Well young girls they know what theyre after
I said, young girls dont kiss me goodbye
Bang bang
Then you close, then you should close, then you close down
You big man
Bang bang
Spot the brack
Just come in first
Bang bang
If praise had wings
Bang bang
And you next in line

The Revenge Of The Poem

you are my enemy

i have a gun hidden in this poem

i get the gun and pull its trigger

in front of your face

bang! bang! bang!

i hit you right at the center of your temple

you fall dead

in front of me

you are not dead?

who cares?

from the point of view of this violent poem

i just shot you and you are dead

you are my enemy

and you are dead

i am relieved

from the point of view of this violent poem

you are my enemy and you are dead

now i can go

and live in peace

this violent poem

has done its purpose

i will have another one to compose.
