I'll Be The End
When the light starts to fade and tears dowse the purple sky
Look for me in the dirt
Wild weeds growing through my rusty chains.
I’ll be the tree sprouting on the edge of the cliff
I’ll be the void
The dead end alley
I’ll be the raven
With melted murky eyes
Sentenced to perpetual dizzying circles above desert kingdoms
I’ll be crossed out in the margin
Carved on a bench
A poem in Sanskrit
A quiet sob
An honest goodbye
The end

Remember Raven
Aah! ooh!
Aah! ooh!
While youre busy trying to conjure dirt upon me,
Your ponys sucked dry by an african bee.
The muck you rake is not enough to keep your turd at sea,
Remember the raven,
Remember the raven.
While your busy trying to weigh your power,
Your boats getting into fast water.
Lifes going down the river of no return,
Remember raven,
Remember raven.
Dont try to be a warden to history,
While trying to find a seat for your posterity.
You better tend your garden for your family.
Remember raven,
Remember raven.
Judas never got the key to heaven, you know.
Raven, raven, remember raven,
Remember raven.
Raven, raven, remember raven,
Remember raven.
Raven, raven, raven.

The Devil's Chair
A suicide note
I carved on my chair
With a rusty old key
Wrapped in devil’s hair
Tied down & gagged
Steel chains around my wrists
Hell’s fury builds inside
As I close my immortal fists
I draw a Lucifer smile
As my human body plays dead
My eyes turn from black
To Demon yellow & red
I reach for his dagger
To disengage the void I can’t bare
As crimson acid rain falls
On to my suicide chair
My soul adjusts to evil
Lost deep in ruptured light
As I become another victim
A creature of the night
The taste of ash in my mouth
As death floats in the air
Soaked in blood; I stand
From my suicide chair.

Driven
Words by neil peart, music by geddy lee and alex lifeson
Driven up and down in circles
Skidding down a road of black ice
Staring in and out storm windows
Driven to a fools paradise
But its my turn to drive
Driven to the margin of error
Driven to the edge of control
Driven to the margin of terror
Driven to the edge of a deep, dark hole
Driven day and night in circles
Spinning like a whirlwind of leaves
Stealing in and out back alleys
Driven to another den of thieves
But its my turn to drive
Driven in --- driven to the edge
Driven out --- on the thin end of the wedge
Driven off --- by things Ive never seen
Driven on --- by the road to somewhere Ive never been
Its my turn to drive
The road unwinds towards me
What was there is gone
The road unwinds before me
And I go riding on

Caught By The Wind
My head hits the pillow
And my eyes begin to cut
The chains that have
Imprisoned me today
And finally as I fall
The gates of endless possibilities
Swing open and I disappear
I am caught by the wind
Whispering our secrets
We dance from tree to tree
And from limb to limb
Howling with joy
Suddenly the wind and I
Carry a raven on
Its midnight rendezvous
Frozen in mid flight
The raven plummets
The chains of tomorrow
Begin to form
As I crash land
Into my pillow
At the crack of dawn

Alley-Gator
Crawlin' 'cross the floor at the Holiday Inn motel
saw that girl that my swamp bone knew so well
She crawled out of Texas flipped off to Baton Rouge
She got that Gulf Coast sun tan that give a poor boy the blues
Alley-gator
With those hypnotic big green eyes
Alley-gator
She'll make you 'fraid 'em
She'll chew you up, ain't no lie
Yeah yeah yeah
Crawlin' through the weeds with a Louisiana mean-toothed grin
You tell her that you love her, then you better tell her once again
She might scratch your back, rub you with her rack
You better watch out or stand back
Alley-gator
With those hypnotic big green eyes
Alley-gator
She'll make you 'fraid 'em
She'll chew you up, ain't no lie
Listen hear
Alley-gator
With those hypnotic big green eyes
Alley Gator
She'll make you 'fraid 'em
She'll chew you up, ain't no lie

An Old Tree
An old tree stands by the edge of a cliff,
awaiting, awaiting the waters to lift.
The waves he cherishes like God's gift,
but through weeds and mountains he must first sift.
Lonely, pleading like a beggar,
he looks to the sea and wishes to tell her
to raise her waters with a good will,
so he could stand alone in the Home of Thrill.
An old tree stands alone on a hill,
forsaken and abandoned, he slowly dies,
as he watches the world's ages fall into a ghyll,
he sets his heart to where the sea-nymph cries.
In mimicry of the sea-nymph's tears,
he sends his roots cascading down the hills
like a waterfall of knowledge collected through the years.
What a sight to see! The spirit with sadness it fills.
An old tree once stood by the edge of a cliff,
waiting for some water to rise.
Now he's fallen, eaten by flies,
as he lays on the rocks, yet nobody cries.
What a life to have lived,
sad and alone.
As he dies, he knows he won't be missed.
No one grieves him but them he'll forgive,
even if they throw him like broken bones.
Yet even at death's gate his wish is dismissed.
His grave stands above the sea,
ever close to the waters free.
Death is cruel and ignores the plea,
And so water never reached by old friend the tree.

So Glad You Said Goodbye
Stepping out of the shadows
Im blinded by the light
Therell be no more wasted days
No more sleepless nights
Stepping out of your shadow
I finally see the light
No more mister nice guy
Im ready for the fight
Weight off my shoulders
No more tears to cry
The chains are broken now
I see through your disguise
Chorus 1
Im so glad youre gone
So glad you said goodbye
Im so glad youre gone
So glad you said goodbye
Do you really think Id just lay down and die
No infatuation
I dont believe your lies
I can see clearly now
The truth behind your eyes
Weight off my shoulders
No more tears to cry
The chains are broken
I see through your disguise
Chorus 2
Im so glad youre gone
So glad you said goodbye
Im so glad youre gone
So glad you said goodbye
No more angry words, no chance for you to lie
Did you really think Id just lay down and die
Passion fades away
Love can turn to hate
And all the words I want to say
Are left in the hands of fate
Chorus 2

Blah, Blah, Blah
Goodbye-goodbye
blah, blah, blah...
In the shortness of his breath
all desperation was taking place
I walk off
looking far into space
The game is over
nobody-no one-
scored
we all lost
Then in a notebook
while sitting
on a park bench
an old man jots down
a poem about lost youth
past loves and better days
meanwhile
the sun crossed the sky
east to west
and the day was never seen
or heard from again

LIENG next to you
love can't be found
in the dirt or in the ground
not
in the purple and in the blue
and never when lying next to you
love is found
in these tears
that wonder why you've heart me
after all these years
the pain is visible
but the hurt is more than physical
the pain is always mine
when you think i've crossed the line
love is now found
as they cover me with dirt, in this ground
not
in a purple eye, that before was blue
and never again, will i lie next to you

A Tree in the Desert
A tree in the desert thirsts for water
A tree in the desert gets too much sun
A tree in the desert is alone in the freezing night
A tree in the desert might never be seen
A tree in the desert might never be touched
A tree in the desert may or may not thrive
A tree in the desert struggles to stay alive

Goodbye & Good Riddance To Bad Luck
Getting bombed out on booze
Got nothing to lose
Run out of money
Disposable blues
Sleazy hotels
Like living in hell
The girls on the hustle
With nothing to sell
Want something for nothing
It's always the same
Keep pushing and shoving
And I'm down on the game
Always in trouble
Forever detained
Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye
And good riddance to bad luck
Well spread out the news
There's a free man loose
Back out of jail
And chasing some flueze
Padlocks and chains
Broken the chains
Lay down a claim
For monetary gains
Wonder what's coming
Out for the take
Freedom for loving
And lust for the taste
Eyes are wide open
(Wild?) to the game
Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye
And good riddance to bad luck

Adorning Velvet Sensibilities
A faith in fear is no saving grace
Small worlds abound upon the purple journey sought
Small worlds for small gods within which we are caught,
Trampled by a knowledge of un-knowing
Defeated by the acceptance of surrender
Bitter from the chill of a bleak yet beautiful December.
I Promise To Pan
That Never Shall I Fail
In Being The Man I Am
And That Forever Shall I sail
The blue abyss to know
The warmth beneath the desert’s snow.
The journey purple bends my mind
It leaves me wild and hard to find
Lost within my kingdoms dream
Where nothing’s real or as it seems.
Here I am, awaiting a flicker of emotion to rise
Staring stone dead statuettes in their eyes
Awaiting breath anew to be cast by the lips of death.
The curtains are drawn to the sky re born above my tower
Here I am, in need of a shower, black holes swallowing eternity within my eyes.
The void is calling, the fear is falling and we are as shedding skins anew,
Turning bright and vivid colours our feathers that once were blue.
Who could have known?
Who could have shown us the way in our unwinding of the labyrinth?
The god of the corridor is stirred from slumber
Where is the girl I dreamt of devouring he cries?
Under what skies does she move?
Adorning velvet sensibilities

Old Oak Tree
Old Oak Tree,
Do you remember me
Tell me, do you remember me
After all those nights
And those many lives
Do you, still remember me,
For it wasn't that long
When I was here
Huddling, under your shade
You protected me,
I confided in you
Every April and May.
Old Oak Tree,
Old, old friend
Seems like you've always been here
You quieten my tears,
You hushed my fears,
When I, was all alone.
Do you remember that time
When I had my knife
And I carved my name right there
It never bothered you
But for me, it soothed
Knowing, for me you cared,
For you were my friend
That I never had
Which I needed, oh so bad
Just to confide unto
And then cry unto
And I did, for only you I had.
Old Oak Tree
Dear old friend
Now, I will say goodbye,
For now I must go
Before to you I show
How a Man, does really cry
For now only you are left
To the family that I had,
Now, I don't feel so sad
For when I am alone
And I need someone else
I will talk to you,
My old, old friend.
Old Oak Tree
Goodbye my friend
Now I'll blow with the wind
Always you will be here
With problems to hear
When the world, is so confused,
But you will answer them all
And then in fall
You'll show colors, that you are
So now I must go
But before I leave
I will say goodbye, my Old Oak Tree.

Tis Me!
The tree on the left is made of bicycles.
The one next to it is red!
The one in the center is yellow
And the blue tree sits on the right end.
Unless you are standing behind them.
Then the blue tree is on the left.
Next comes the yellow then red tree,
And the bicycle tree comes next!
But if you watch from a merry go round
While it’s spinning in circles you’ll see,
Just a dizzying blur of colors,
Which one now is first, mercy me?
Who has such time that it does take
To sit and write the nonsense we read?
I bet whoever it is he’s retired,
And he looks an awful lot just like me!

song - The Old Swing Tree
Park at Inch crossroads outside the new Church
And walk slowly southwards through beech hedge and birch
Turn left where the hanging tree once used to be
Straight into the war hidden there by the trees
Where soldiers and huts lined both sides of the Road
When bombs fell round here sixty five years ago
By Ash and by bluebell, old sycamore
Here where the past laps like waves on the shore
Take the wild pathway that hides the Lost Road
Towards the new village that would one day grow
And there by the verge you’d have found the swing tree
In silence, no kids swooping there wild and free
Nor pledging of love proudly carved in that tree
Those crudely cut letters for you and for me
And somewhere between times, free in the years
A few broken hearts, a few smiles and tears
So many dreams that would never come true
And not just for us but for everyone too
As time and the world bring us changes to rue
The gentle give way and the selfish break through
And here am I wondering, listening and lost
In search of all those precious moments long gone
Around the old swing tree, felled and away
By tracks of love carved too deeply to fade

Red Dirt Ride
I took a little red dirt ride
Along a quiet country road
Peacefulness I felt deep inside
As I watched my day unfold
A red dirt pond all alone
With red dirt cattle too
I felt a sense of belonging
I’d like to share with you
Rock sprouting from the land
Like a sculpture tall and true
Yes, peacefulness I felt inside
And I think you’d feel it too
The sun shone so brightly
Upon my red dirt world
The day was just for me
As calm inside me furled
One thing that I can count on
When I need to take in stride
Problems that come my way
I simply take a red dirt ride!

Signs
All night I dreamed of my home,
of the roads that are so long
and straight they die in the middle—
among the spines of elderly weeds
on either side, among the dead cats,
the ants who are all eyes, the suitcase
thrown open, sprouting failures.
2.
And this evening in the garden
I find the winter
inside a snail shell, rigid and
cool, a little stubborn temple,
its one visitor gone.
3.
If there were messages or signs,
I might hear now a voice tell me
to walk forever, to ask
the mold for pardon, and one
by one I would hear out my sins,
hear they are not important—that I am
part of this rain
drumming its long fingers, and
of the roadside stone refusing
to blink, and of the coyote
nailed to the fence with its
long grin.
And when there are no messages
the dead lie still—
their hands crossed so strangely
like knives and forks after supper.
4.
I stay up late listening.
My feet tap the floor,
they begin a tiny dance
which will outlive me.
They turn away from this poem.
It is almost Spring.
