Haiti 2010

Haiti : January 12....2010-02-03....16: 23 hrs

The dreadful Earthquake struck suddenly
That unsuspecting day in January
From Palace to hut the indifferent Quake
Unleash its wrathful fury,

Buildings crumbled like falling leaves to the ground
Killing and trapping the unsuspecting thousands
In its round

Plumes of dust arose in the air
Amidst screams and groans of its victims' fear
Masks of terror and confusion etched their faces
Of victims fleeing for their lives to safer places
Poor Haiti what have you done
To receive such an awful Fate?

Help Haitians Now!

In just a few minutes of time,
The whole landscape was gone,
Undone by Mother Nature’s fury – Quake!

And no one ever imagined,
Catastrophe would strike,
Without fore-warning signs any that day!

The land was shaken severely;
Most buildings turned rubble,
With lakhs dead; maimed or missing; some still trapped.

The place was thrown in darkness fast;
Survivors took to streets;
Some groans and muffled cries for help are heard!

The world knew what had happened soon;
Relief trickled in late;
But no one can be truly blamed for it!

Concrete structures too had come down!
Utter chaos prevails;
The locals tried to save some lives, they could.

Why Haiti shook, no one can tell?
The victims need our love,
Consolation, help and care and prayers.

Can aid efforts be streamlined fast?
Will leaders work a deal?
Survivors need food, clothes and medicines!

There are some trapped and still alive;
There some dying fast;
Some are suffering agonizing pain!

The world can stall its scheduled plans;
Helping victims is prime;
Unite efforts to save unlucky lives!

O world! Act now and rather fast;
Time precious is ebbing;
Search the rubble; rescue lives that you can!

Pray God relents and showers grace;
Pray things get cleared out fast;
This is a test for faith and human love!

Be charitable, generous;
Show love for neighbors all;
Today ’tis Haiti; morrow could choose us!

The Seismic Event of January12,2010 in Haiti

No reporters could accurately describe
The immense damage or disaster
That took place on January 12,2010.

No poets could express the pain
That our people felt that day
When we were rocked so bad.

No artists could precisely sketch
The enormity of this earthquake
Where dark clouds had covered
And sucked the air out of the whole country.

No priests, pastors, imams or rabbis
Had enough words or knowledge
To preach about this event
Without becoming speechless at the end.

Haiti got hit, our poor Haiti
Our ill-prepared Haiti Thomas
Got startled by a powerful earthquake
About 250,000 human beings got killed.

No pond could sustain
Such a potent geyser of tears
The whole nation was drowning in fears
The world cried and felt our pain.

Since the beginning of time
It has never been easy to be Haitian
Even when Haiti was in her prime
Her children had to fight like supermen.

Haitians had to strive to survive
Haitians had to struggle to stay alive
Haitians were born to be strong and valiant
Haitians, at dawn, learned to be brave and resilient.

No other people have suffered like us
No other nations, countries or clans have lost
So much, because we never had enough
We were raised to be tough, we had to be rough.

No scientists could mathematically
Measure the anguish and the miseries
That our people have endured in the last five centuries
And specifically within the last five decennies.

No writers could convey the true nature
And the origin of our sorrow
Only time and tomorrow
Can soothe and smooth our pain and suffering.

No one could really console us
We never had enough and had lost so much
Haiti Thomas got rocked badly, that’s very bad
Haiti got hit hard, that’s obviously very sad.

Earthquake

Earthquake in Haiti

The corpses look like they have been flung down from the sky,
rejected by god for being too poor. Broken limbs and stillness in
the dust. There is a groundswell of a cry, a primitive anger that
has nowhere to go, but inwards eating the victims of injustice like
a virulent cancer. We are religious people who do our Ave Marias
and voodoo on the side. We pray to god and saints, so why this
devastation? Long deep trenches, a place for obese bodies, many
with hands stretching skywards as asking why did you forsake us?
And as always the heaven is silent, yet in the absence of hope and
the rumor of an angel is walking amongst the poor blessing them,
there is hope. But more body fall, rejected by the heaven; and our
bishop is dead too. The cry of anguish will tear us apart till we lose
our reason, sink to our knees and pray to a god that knows no mercy;
as cadavers keep falling from an indifferent sky.

But I think it's very key that there's a plan for Haiti. And we have to begin to - as progressives and people who are concerned about Haiti and have been concerned about Haiti, we have to begin to build some sort of consensus, a movement around the Haiti that the Haitians envision.

Our Love for Haiti…

Our Love for Haiti…

Our love for Haiti
Remains steadfastly unconditional.
Our love for this beloved country
Remains obviously emotional.

For a quarter of a century,
The others did not do too much,
For this yesteryear paradise island.

For more than a dozen years,
The incompetent and spurious leaders,
The opponents and the exiled ones
Also ruled this precious piece of land.

So far, no significant improvement…
Corruption, theft, poverty,
Kidnappings, death, mismanagement
Lies, excuses and misery …

This is not the hell that our forefathers died for…
I can tell you more, I can prove you more.
God Almighty, there is a constant and eternal search
For real leadership, unlike the bad ones
That we have had unfortunately over the last centuries.

We are tired of seeing Haiti among the poorest countries.

Our love for Haiti
Is sadly emotional.
Our love for this poverty stricken country
Remains simply unconditional.

January 2010 Haiti

How sad for Port-au-Prince
~~ The Capital of Haiti ~~
A repeat of the destruction
Which took place back in
The eighteenth century
When two similar quakes
Took their toll on Haiti.
We've seen frightening scenes
On today's television screens
And the whole world will say
An impassioned prayer to help
Haiti overcome the despair.

Victims No More

Victims No more on this Mother Earth,

No More killing of her

people, animals, mammals, fish and birds,

to them she has given birth.

Yes, victims no more,

For all of us as one,

what you do unto the innocent

with your weapons,

has devastating repercussions.

From a standpoint of victims you make us your slaves,

bringing all of us to an early grave.

No Victims of the Sea,

the sea creatures are meant to have a destiny,

and swim in an ocean that is clean.

No one is here to have their homes taken away from them,

be it through pollution of oil from which it stems.

This oil drilling has to end.

So put down your weapons.

Remembering Haiti

Imagine waking up from sleep
and be imprisoned by the heap
of rubbles and other falling debris!

Imagine waking up from sleep
and seeing your own home
swallowed by the open mouth of earth!

Imagine waking up from sleep
and knowing that your loved ones
cannot wake up from death!

Haiti, we lament with you!
We share your tears
as you try to rub your eyes
from the deep sleep of
loss, pain and sorrow!

Poem: 'Playtime Slayer

- 6. May.2006 -

Unsuspecting children play, nothing seems amiss
They are jumping, they are running, they’re just ‘being kids’
Unsuspecting children play, unnoticing this little girl
She is crying, she is dying, carrying the weight of the world
Unsuspecting children play, laughing to themselves
They are so unknowing of this little girls living hell
Unsuspecting children play, having so much fun
This girl is used to being bullied, but she’s not the only one
Unsuspecting children play, unknowing of this pain
They don’t even see this girl… they don’t let her join their game
Unsuspecting children play, as a young girls life falls apart
They don’t even suspect; this little girl ‘self-harms’

For Haiti I Cry

My heart like a desert
My tears like a river
Shifting sands of sadness
My whole body shivers

I am sick with suffering
I am pregnant with pain
My ruptured heart bleeds
From my eyes flow the rain

Lachrymose! Lachrymose!
Haiti I weep for thee
Your sons and daughters
Have suffered tragic misery

I bawl! Don't ask me why!
For Haiti! For Haiti I cry!

Jenny Greenteeth

There's a hag by the name of Jenny Greenteeth;
Of human life, she is a well-known thief.
She waits under the water of the Old Mill Pond,
For an unsuspecting victim to happen along.

She claims her victims at the dead of night,
When many folks' hearts are full of fright.
It is always under the light of the silvery moon
That her terrified victims meet their final doom.

The victim won't believe what they are seeing,
When, from the water, they spy a strange being.
The victim will think that it is all just a dream;
They will open their mouth and begin to scream.

She bursts forth from the water with staring eyes,
Filling her chosen victim with shocked surprise.
With her long, bony fingers, she grabs at limbs,
Then having taken a hold, she drags them on in.

Her skin is pale green, and her hair is long.
Her breath gives off the most dreadful pong.
Her teeth are pointed, like those of a shark.
Her eyes are large and, like coal, are dark.

Her reaching arms are as skinny as a rake,
But unwilling victims, these arms do take.
With hair like waterweed, and a very thin face,
Her appearance makes her victims' hearts race.

To the pond's edge, most will not venture near;
Of Jenny Greenteeth, there is a very great fear.
The young and the old should take special care
Not to venture too near to Jenny's watery lair.

With ferocity, like that of a mighty lion,
She grabs her victims with fists of iron.
Into the murky depths, she drags them down;
They breathe their last, and then they drown.

Wail! , Wail! ! , Wail! ! ! for HAITI.

Wail, ! Wail, ! ! Wail for HAITI! ! ! ! ! !
Wail for the sight is Gory,
Wail for the deaths of these Infants
Wail for the deaths of these women, ; young, and Old
Wail for the loss of the productive workforce of this Nation
Wail for the Calamity that came within few seconds to claim thousands of lives.

Wail for the loss of generations of this Land called Haiti
Wail for the Unconsolable mothers, and fathers for the loss of their loved ones
Wail, if you have tears in your tear glands,
Wail, if you have heart that is meek
May the Almighty console us all, for the sights of the dead in the rubbles too frightening to look.

911

Our hearts cleaved that horrific day.
The early morning sun shined bright.
No clues were noticed-giveaways
that could forewarn the urbanites.

It began like any Tuesday.
A workday for most New Yorkers.
People bustling to the subways
on their way to their employers.

Still early, not all arrived where
their designated work stations
are situated. Poor souls! unaware
of their imminent destruction.

Suddenly, at eight forty two
A living bomb with mal-vigor
Intentionally, in plain view
Crashed through the north twin tower.

All screaming, jumping casualties,
Burning, smoking, funeral pyre.
When suddenly at nine O three
a second struck the south tower.

Both monoliths are now aflame.
Confusion reined both high and low.
Towering infernos became
A cataclysmic horrid show.

Meanwhile, firemen tried in vain
To rescue those inside the traps,
Doomed victims of the deadly planes.
My God! The south tower collapsed!

All the humanity within
The conflagration expired
In an instant: Men and women
Buried under concrete and fire.

Standing alone and mortally
Wounded, amidst ash and rubble
Like a saint at the stake, bravely
Awaits the inescapable.

“Commit their bodies to the ground;
Earth to earth, ashes to ashes,
Dust to dust.” An instant grave mound:
The north tower collapses.

Never! Will our lives be the same.
Witnessing the loss of our brethren:
Over twenty nine hundred claimed
That day: September eleven.

Where Have Gone Those Masks?

Where have they gone?
All those masks of the past!
Many masks hiding faces of the ones clever.

One was of love pure,
Another was of friendship innocent
And another was of care entwining.

Those masks had a power
That mesmerised the weak minds for some time.
Where are those masks?

No one sells them as the marketeers
Don`t have much to fill the wallet
From these little transparent masks now.

Masked faces have faded out from amidst us all
And there walk many without faces at all!
The poet himself has none.

Slaughter In A Grave

It's a killer and it's prowls
Night after night
It's murderer in the vault
It lives for a fight
It's a story of soul
That has come for revenge
On murderous grounds he
Seeks his victims for the night
Listen to the night for
The shout of the skull
It's the call of death's return
And the vengeance of the God
It's a bad land and the
Storm comes to chill
It's a passage and the killer
Feels remorse to kill in fear
It's a victims who fixes the man with hate
A dead man drives crime in his
Fate so near
In the black vault the strange
Spirit commands the victims soul
To return in his body and to
Revenge his bloody murder so cold
On the screaming place
Mad spirit reighs with his killing soul
On his crazy face the vengeance
Makes it's course with fever...
In vaults
