Gerald's Promise (A True Experience)

A long time ago in the year of 1991
My love took sick, I knew not what of
Four dream's of future showed me he'd leave,
And drop behind Death's veil and I, be left alone
So we made a pact, he promised to come back
13 is my unlucky number, I feared it more and more
And on August 13th--Death knocked on our door
You must realize I was devastated
To know before what was to be, and be unable to change it
Then came a night, it stands in my memory
Heavy quilted curtains we made hung at the windows,
Alone in bed I leapt to see, two shining stars,
Bright as Venus in evening's sky looking over me-inside!
As suddenly they had appeared, they brightened and were gone
I straight away grabbed a light and ran down the stairs
I sat right down and spoke aloud, 'Gerald, I know you're here'
You scoff and ask how am I sure it was he, Dear Reader
I'll tell you how I know, this was January 3, 1992
It was on the date of the Anniversary of our meeting,
Six year's prior, right down to the Hour!

Nov.4th (Anniversary)

A fog is spilling into these streets again
Like smoke filling the doomed house at night
And the chill is doubling day by day
And the ice on the road creeps this way

Unlivable, it was unworkable for too long
So, the powers that be; they took a chance
And spoke the words that I couldn't say
And stamped the hope with a date and time

The silver skies that were suspended
Clouded up with those freezing fears
That letting go, into that all-unknown
With only a bottle of beer for peace

A year ago we talked, then turned and walked
Beyond the furthest point we'd been before
And into new arms, you were promptly caught
And into a drug, I tossed my heavy heart

There were Christmas-coloured lights in the street
There was ice on my windshield each morning
Frozen tears that I bled under my bed at night
Lamp light and the warmth of caring friends

Anniversary
An anniversary of change
We don't celebrate
We don't gratify the date
Anniversary...
An anniversary of change

This Year

[Intro:]
"I spent this whole year, doin' my thang, just thinkin' bout me, but that's about to change,
cause this year it's all about you, baby"
[Verse 1:]
I made a lot of promises last year I guess
And though I didn't keep them all, a few I kept
I even made a few decisions that I now regret
And for the New Year, ooh dear, this is gonna be the best one yet,
Cause it's all about you this year
[Chorus:]
This year, everything is all about you
This year, you're part of everything I do
This year, if there's anything you want, all you gotta do is ask
This year, you come first, everybody else comes last
[Verse 2:]
There were times when you didn't know where I was at
(so you'd call)
I'd see your number on my cell knowing well I need to holla back
(but I'd stall)
Any other guy would leave if they were treated like that
It was no parade but you stayed, so this year it's a wrap
It's all about you this year
[Repeat Chorus]
[Bridge:]
I didn't mean to diss you babe
Ignore or dismiss you babe
Hear me out and listen babe
This year and more is yours
Cause you deserve better than this no doubt
We got a few minutes til this year runs out
So listen dear, we've shed our last tear this year
[Repeat Chorus]

Last Summer

(rod stewart / phil chen)
Sipping a sangria with a girl named julia
Hot jamaican sand beneath our feet
She purred like a cat in a panama hat
She said my passport picture was unique
I said I did impersonations would you like to see
Turned around to buy her one more round
Then suddenly she disappeared
Like I feared with another guy
Love always seems to let me down
Can be found anywhere around
The carnival had passed
And my heart was beating fast
All these married women, it aint fair
Nervously I said would you like to come to bed
A cold silence pierced the evening air
Instantly she recognized my insecurities
Changing subjects quickly I agreed
Then suddenly she disappeared
Like I feared with another guy, oo baby
Love always seems to let me down
Can be found anywhere around
Nowhere around
The tourist had all gone, winters coming on
The hotel chambermaid didnt seem to care
Sharing a pina colada we broke into laughter
Ill never know how we made it up the stairs
We spent the night together
And she woke up in my arms
Kissed me tenderly and said goodbye
Then suddenly she disappeared
Like I feared with another guy, oo baby
Love always seems to let me down
Can be found anywhere around
Nowhere around
Love always seems to let me down
Maybe Ill wait until next year, next year, next year

The Muse I Once Had

Wrapped inside the cages of hedonistic
Byways, looking for the hemlock of the anniversary one
Last time,
At least I can say I kissed her lips and held on to
Her, and took her out into the waves
Even though she could not swim: which made all of the tourists
Watch us even more;
And we made love: and we made love in almost a year
Of adultery,
But all throughout those fiery nights, the souls of my
Words ran lonely-
And it got colder as more of the years approached:
She went back to him, sated and bent and subtle like
Soft wood I had imprinted with my telephone number:
And her two children, waiting for fireworks-
Hungry as rabbits- she said she was not a good mother,
But she would not leave them- A Mexican woman,
Her husband exhibiting entire control over her,
Except for with me- for this last year,
And the times we made love- now she is a lion,
A rose content to be a in a cage- and when I see her mother
Cleaning the windows of the Italian restaurant
Along Okeechobee Boulevard- working without
A smile, bent and overweight- I think of the muse I once had,
And I think that must be her.

You

You made promises.
You knew you would never keep them.
You made them anyway.
You promised you would never hurt me.
You did.
You promised you would never lie to me.
You did.
You promised to always be there when I needed you.
You weren't.
You promised to never leave.
You left.
You promised to always care about me.
You stopped.
You never should have made promises you knew you wouldn't keep.
You left me here alone.
You made me think.
You made me realize I don't need you.
You may think I do.
You are so wrong.
You left and I let go.
You were important to me, but I've learned to move on.
You will never lie to me again.
You will never hurt me again.
You will never hear my voice.
You will never see my face.
You lost me.
You have to be the one to let go now.
You shouldn't have treated me that way.
You never will again.
You are gone and I've moved on.

Where Does It Go?

As I watch the
Night Sky
I think of you.
The one I grew
Up with,
The one I always
Talked to,
The one I never left.
I watched the sky
On theanniversary
Of you death.
I feel that in times
Nature atunes to
Our emotions.
I watched the
Night sky.
Your death
Was so abrupt
Everyone was
Shocked.
I watch the
Night sky
As all the
Stars cry.
I stand over the
Grave marked as mine.

The sky bleeds
It's crystal
Tears.
Dead in the winter
A death had
Occured,
People cry for
The lost,
They cry for
The pain.
Now they weep
For my soul
For it is lost.
I can't join
The dead for
It wasn't my
Time, but
I can't be
Alive for my
Body is dead.
I'm lost between
Worlds.
I want to
Sleep.
As I stand over the
Grave marked as mine.
The night of the anniversary
Replays every year.

When I return to the
Scene where I wept
Crimson tears
Every night of the anniversary
The story replays,
But no living soul
Can see it.
Wrong conclusions
Drawn by human thoughts
And yet if they could
See what I do,
Then all will be
Explained
As the night of the anniversary
Replays every year.

As I watch the
Night sky
And all the stars
Cry,
As I stand over the
Grave marked as mine,
The night of the anniversary
Replays every year.

I live on.

I Do

Written by christine mcvie and eddie quintela.
Oh my mind is made up about you
Now and always
Though the seasons come and they go
Nothing will ever change
Well I took a little chance
And I laid my heart down
I thought youd be the one
Who would always stick around
I took a little time
Though I knew it would be
That we had a date with destiny
Well out of the darkness
And out of the long black night
You have given me heart, yes
And you showed me the light
And I do, I do
I love you for what you are
Well this heart of mine
I know it so well
There are so many strange stories
That I could tell
Many is a time
I went out on a limb
You reached out for me baby
And you brought me back again
A lot of stormy nights
Ive seen many a full moon, but darling
This is love in the afternoon
Well out of the darkness
And out of the long black night
You have given me heart, yes
And you showed me the light
And I do, I do
I love you for what you are
So out of the darkness
And out of the long black night
You have given me heart, yes
And you showed me the light
And I do, I do
I love you for what you are
Yes I love you for what you are
I love you for what you are
I do love you for what you are
Yes I do love you for what you are...

January

Start wooing with all the clocks chiming,
Slip the slippery seconds around earth,
And dance with the skies in celebration,
All from pulse to breathe, and to new birth.

January, the first light of another year,
And the glory of that maiden orbit,
Wake silently from golden dust to appear,
A long time coming; we had known it.

After taking down the decorations,
Give chances for the changing course,
To breathe New Year’s resolutions,
And as it grows, given hope a chance.

A brimful of dreams watches all doors opens,
Letting hope in and visions lets out more,
But so long as January defines what begins,
It has the key to mingle with pleasure.

January stands steep in splendor passing by,
Spectra of the seasons towering head,
And hung the gem of lights to guide the sky,
With stars bright and glittering away they fled.

And float midway in opportunity abound,
To such deep measure on thrushes of rapture,
Upon fair winds January is known in all the land,
From drifts to snowy clefts and sunny sphere.

The wakening realm will come back again,
And life begins new through cold and death,
January is the beginning of the end,
Round the islands it goes in triumphant rebirth.

Unfinished History

WE HAVE loved each other in this time twenty years
And with such love as few men have in them even for
One or for the marriage month or the hearing of
Three nights' carts in the street but it will leave them:
We have been lovers the twentieth year now:
Our bed has been made in many houses and evenings:
The apple-tree moves at the window in this house:
There were palms rattled the night through in one:
In one there were red tiles and the sea's hours:
We have made our bed in the changes of many months and the
Light of the day is still overlong in the windows
Till night shall bring us the lamp and one another:
Those that have seen her have no thought what she is:
Her face is clear in the sun as a palmful of water:
Only by night and in love are the dark winds on it....
I wrote this poem that day when I thought
Since we have loved we two so long together
Shall we have done together all love gone?
Or how then will it change with us when the breath
Is no more able for such joy and the blood is
Thin in the throat and the time not come for death?

Marriage

Marriage for Esme began as a wide open room
with windows that let in the sunshine
and curtains so light and airy
they floated on the breeze.

Her husband's blue eyes would sparkle
with just a hint of mischief
and fun that they intrigued her,
made him special.

Then in the second year on her birthday
it seemed the room had grown dusty,
the curtains seemed dull,
the windows small.

And in the third year, without a doubt
the sun had gone down on her
and the room held a chill
like her aching heart.

By the fifth year, she'd aged,
her eyes had shadows, her skin had paled
and the room seemed small
with no windows at all.

She had shriveled, was withdrawn,
she'd sit in the corner of the room humming,
rocking back and forth, back and forth,
back and forth........

When Winter Suddenly Comes

When winter suddenly comes
year upon year I am caught by it,
when there is an end to growth,

when sudden change in age
strip branches, let's them hang lonely,
when winter suddenly comes

and it seems as if all of nature is dying,
when you long back to summer,
when there is an end to growth,

when with the ripe every spring flower wilts
and that an end is coming scares you,
when winter suddenly comes

you are astonished by the yellow-brown creeping death,
when even the bright bird songs wither,
when there is an end to growth,

and subtle even death claims its own property,
after years of decline of a life,
when winter suddenly comes,
when there is an end to growth.

Eternal Legacy

The dream began with distant stars, the sun and moon in view.
I looked at Venus, then at Mars and then I saw Earth, too.
Then suddenly they disappeared! No longer in my sight!
What meant the vision that I feared? For all went black as night!

I heard a voice! It stopped my heart! It filled my soul with grief!
Tranquillity was torn apart to question my belief!
I sensed this was the King of Kings, Jesus, the Lord of Lords!
The One of whom each angel sings, the bringer of rewards!

'What's your eternal legacy? ' The Saviour asked me straight.
I showed no sign of certainty and had to make Him wait.
I thought of every noble deed that I had ever done
In answer to the Holy Creed in service to God's Son.

'You know the good, You know the bad! The future's yet to be!
What more have I that's left to add? What extra legacy?
Beyond the property I leave, upon my final breath,
What more on Earth can You receive that follows from my death? '

Then Jesus said, 'Pray for the Jews! Pray for Jerusalem!
Pray for lost souls so they may choose the blood I shed for them!
Ask God to guide your daily path, for light to lead the way,
Before men read your epitaph, save souls from Judgment Day! '

With that a silence followed on... I rose to greet the morn...
The truths He shared have never gone... they meet me every dawn!
I'll not forget the way He spoke that time I lay asleep...
For in that dream, before I woke, I heard my Saviour weep...

I Can See It In Your Eyes

The first time I saw you
I felt weak inside
I search my heart and mind
For words I couldn't find.
Some how you seemed to see
What came over me that night
As a love began to grow
That would last for all time.
And you said, ''I can see it in your eyes
They're the windows to your soul
Sometimes they say more
Than words could ever hope.''
''We could wait a thousand lifetimes
Then never feel like this again
But when you look at me, that way
I can see it in your eyes.''
Later on I asked your hand
And I prayed the time was right
I knelt down on one knee
And said, ''Would you be my bride?''
Then the sound of silence
Filled the air as your tears fell
With mine, you didn't have to say
A word for me to realize.
And I said, ''I can see it in you eyes
They're the window to your soul.''
''I see dreams come alive
And future plans unfold.''
''I could wait a thousand lifetimes
Then not find a perfect love again.''
''When you look at me, that way
I can see it in your eyes.''
Many years have come and gone
And what a life we've made
Now again we search for words
As the heart inside me breaks
Until death do we part
Were the vows we made
And now the time has come
But goodbye's so hard to say.
But I can see it in your eyes
They're the windows to your soul
The light of life is burning but
Soon you're leaving me, I know
But time that's left is precious dear
So please don't shed another tear
You don't have to say a word
I can see it in your eyes.
I've heard you say a thousand times
I'll love you dear, until I die
But you don't have to say a word
I can see it in your eyes...

The Anniversay

I do not need any special day to bring you to my mind
In fact, I think of you everyday and ask
God why
The first year of your death I was
Crazy and numb inside
The second year I was angry
Most all the time
Looking for an Answer
That I would never find
The third year the anniversary of your death
I stand staring down where
You were laid to rest
No one will ever know the emptiness
I feel inside as my heartaches everyday
As I try to carry on
Knowing that each morning when I awake that you’re gone

Dear Daddy-Long-Legs

Dear Daddy-Long-Legs

When I suddenly spotted you floating round the light,
I froze to the spot, as you weren’t a welcome sight.
Around the lounge, you zipped and zoomed,
As I fled upstairs, in terror, to my bedroom.

As soon as daylight begins to slowly fade,
I start ‘Operation Lockdown’ to stop any raid.
I shut all of the doors and all of the windows,
And the curtains to, I make sure are closed.

Even though you’re so much smaller than me,
You’re not a visitor who I really like to see.
You seem to think that flying straight at me is fun,
And I bet it makes you really laugh to see me run.

At you, I can’t seem to help but briefly stand and stare,
As you float around seemingly effortlessly in mid air.
I do so really hate this time of the year,
When, to me, you bring this feeling of fear.

Even without seeing you, I hear the tell-tale click of your wings,
And you wouldn’t believe the terror which that tiny sound brings.
With your wire thin body, you seem to have acquired the knack,
Of obtaining entry, even when a window is open just a tiny crack.

I can’t throw you out, as the problem is, at night,
Many others of your kind are also in full flight.
Next morning, when I come back down the stairs,
More often than not, you’re seemingly not there.

I have to admit that I don’t know this for dead certain,
But my guess is that you’re hiding behind the lace curtain.
You’ve gone off to hide in peace for the day,
Till, once again, evening time comes our way.

Then, once the light is switched back on again,
You’ll leave your hiding place and be a right pain.
I know that your life span isn’t at all very long,
But terrorizing innocent people is very, very wrong.

The Goodbye Song.

Last year was one of our better years
In a life full of separation
Its ok to second guess
Just as long as you remember shes gone
In the bright of day
It might seem like the stars are gone
They never leave
They come back when the sun moves on
Its over now
You watched me as I turned around
Its not why but how
The light is on
Ill come home now
I feel its been such a long time
Since your eyes have met with mine
I feel its been such a long time
Im glad you made up your mind
Its hurting me from the inside
If I only had something to say
Maybe if I prove that Im right
Will it still be safe to stay
