Dear Animal,
Cow, chicken, pig, or horse
I'm sorry for what our race has done,
I wish you had a voice.
Slit open, smashed, and burned alive
Seems like humans
have no heart
We sit together eating you,
Not knowing what had

I'm sorry to the skinny pig who's head was smashed against a floor,
I'm sorry to the chicken that was skinned and burned alive,

That's hanging upside down with it's stomach cut open.
That's a horrible way to die,
And an even worse way to live,

Chicken and Other Foods
She is coming home tonight, been away for two days.
Bought her, what she likes… a well roasted chicken.
On the farm where I was brought up, old hens that
didn’t lay eggs as before had heads chopped off and
ended up in the pot. Incredible tough meat had to boil
it for hours. Never liked the smell in a chicken coop,
I think concentration camps must have stunk like that
too many bodies in small rooms and no escape.
The coop’s capo wasn’t safe either, when it didn’t
perform as before, off with its head. When she enjoys
her roasted chicken with lemon sauce I will eat a burger,
since it doesn’t look remotely like a dead animal and as
I have never seen a dead cow, only milked them every
morning at five, it will taste ok with Italian salad.

Never seen the light

the stomach is an animal
it can be the best of pets
if you can talk to it, get it

The USDA And Trichinella Worms
At the USDA
they don't care
how trichinella worms
squirm
in the flesh
of butchered innocent pigs.
They have muzzled the truth about

Mad Elk etc.
Through the USDA Forest Service
old trees which have stood
for centuries, (one of the last 700 year old
cedars) were cut
down
.We are the land of skinny trees.

fires have destroyed millions
of acres.

the lab inspection laws.
The result is animal agony,

research.

The Kitchen Shears Speak
This division must end.
Again I'm forced to amputate
the chicken's limb; slit the joint,
clip the heart, snip wing from back,
strip fat from flesh, separate
everything from itself. I'm used,
thrown down by unknown hands,
by cowards who can't bear to do
the constant severing. Open and close!
Open and close. I work and never tell.
Though mostly made of mouth, I have no voice,
no legs. My arms are bent, immobile
pinions gripped by strangers. I fear
the grudge things must hold.
I slice rose from bush, skin from muscle,
head from carrot, root from lettuce,
tail from fish. I break the bone.
What if they join against me,
uncouple me, throw away one-half,
or hide my slashed eye? Or worse,
what if I never die? What I fear
most is being caught, then rusted rigid,
punished like a prehistoric
bird, fossilized, and changed
into a winged lizard, trapped while clawing
air, stuck in stone with open beak.

to breed animals to use as food

that as children we do not realise
