Culture Abyss

I recently with two high-school students conversed
And alarmingly learned they weren’t at all versed
In the musical heritage of our American nation
It was a sorrowful show of their culture isolation

It’s not that these kids were doltish or dumb
They were as a matter of fact bright as they come
After minutes with them, one couldn’t refute
Their learned mastery of the digital compute

They’re well schooled in kilo, giga and megabytes
Consumed with computers in utter delight
But the well rounded person, is one who stands tall
Who knows the tech-world is not the be and end-all

I’m distressed to be the sad news reporter
That these bright kids never heard of Mr. Cole Porter
An American icon of music and wit
It’s a short-fall of ours, I humbly submit

“Duke Ellington, ” they asked, “Who’s that dude”?
And Gershwin, forget about, they hadn’t a clue
That it’s not a requisite to be musically inclined
Is no excuse to be culturally blind

I was fearful so didn’t mention Mozart or Bach
Though I’m sure they knew about Rap and Hard Rock
We’ve a TV, Computer and I-Pod generation
Who have fallen victim to culture deprivation

They’re probably unacquainted with the likes of Van Gogh
Who’s accountable for their lack of exposure I really don’t know
Hopefully they’ll emerge from this culture abyss
There’s so much out there, they deserve not to miss

Theme for World Lit

The instructor said,
Go home and write
A page tonight.
And let that page come out of you—
Then, it will be true.
Write about culture
She said
About heritage
About home
About you.

But who am I?
Is this where I'm supposed to figure it out?
What is my culture?

I am Africa
And oceans I've flown across
I am beaches I've walked on
Mountains I've climbed
And cultures I've spoken to
Then theirs became mine
I learned how to say "en cha Allah"
And "jambo"
And to see the simple things for their pleasures

I wear clothes made in China because virtually everything is
Is that American?
I laugh with my friends like all teenagers do
No matter where in the world they come from
I speak Colorado
We don't have an accent
I read
Because it's intoxicating
I eat French fries, Chinese food, Mexican and Italian
I guess because it's American

I'm lucky enough to live near the mountains
I'm lucky enough

I'm from America or Ireland or France
Or that's what Dad says
I've never been there

My culture is a smoothie
Everything I am turned on high and served in a chilled glass on a beach somewhere
With a little paper umbrella and a straw

This page is mine.
I let it come out of me
Is it true?

Resurrect the old culture.

The culture is rich
Where guilt, conscience and shame warn.
The culture is fair
Where repercussion and prosecution warn.
The culture is poor
Where escape is the root to success.
Culture stands for name.
Greed and insecurity have marred it.
It is high time for parents
To ask their children to resurrect the old.

Back Seat Bus Culture

Back Seat Bus Culture,
Draws me towards it like khakis to a vulture.
And they don’t need no plead to indulge ya’
Coz these kids they got phones and ringtone clays to sculpture

They Press play; Say ‘We’re too tired of this silence
And be quiet while we let of our musical sirens
Coz all day we behave to grey faced, teacher Tyrants
No getting stoned, just ringtones, forget violence’.

Ok I have ears but these ‘musical sirens’?
Can I request that your breath speaks of Byron?
‘More street’ you say, then try Armitage, Simon
Coz they has idea’s but got a pen to apply them.

Thanks say the kids, your words taste like those Stella’s
While the girls lick their lips at their track suited fella’s
With all due respect we don’t mean to indulge ya,
But were onto some new stuff, it’s called Back Seat Bus Culture.

What is Culture

What is Culture?
What we think of in Rumbek
What we think of in Jerusalem
What we think of in Moscow
All different things we think, say,
Do and make at different places at the same time
What differentiate a man from insects, birds and beasts?

If you don’t have a culture
You’re a housefly
If you don’t keep your culture
You’re a beetle or cockroach
If you adopt a culture
You’re a tick
If you hate other’s culture
You’re a toad
If you don’t hate or love other’s culture
You’re real man

Cultural Miss-understanding...

Cultural Miss-understanding.....and what-teez miss-understood...
and what must...be understood

in this nation...in particular, ....

one beautiful habit....people in America had, have followed and still....

is to ask for more....

ask anyone! ! now...and when ever...
male,
female,
boss,
coo-worker,
lover,
sheeta, ....ron lazrig...john taboona......to the president him or herself...
((it depends who is the president....in general...in USA...He/She is the one who must answer all the more questions....and decides what must be done...accordant to the traditions and the urgency...))

everyone will ask you for
even their pats...they ask for the same thing....

the list is recorded in the more.com data base....log file...

in contrast to this....

other culture...ask for less....

less of less and less of everything...

this culture where i grow up....has one job.....is to convert a person from a simple form to a simpler!

Now. with the influence of the 'MORE culture', you can hear....i want more simplicity.....for example....

Other culture....like the Chinese.....and in particular.....their head-quarter....((.I mean, where they load their Maw-it SEE-TONGUE dead matrix'....softwares...))

this culture asks for the spin and equilibrium.!

that is it! ! no more no less

you spin....i spin with you...let me see how far you can go....! !

Pop and Culture

Peeps peep on pop and culture.
People peep on pop and culture.
There's a peep on pop and culture,
With not a poop to stop.

They peep on pop and culture.
People peep on pop and culture.
There is a peep on pop and culture,
Without a poop to stop.

Lady Gaga got that pop.
People peep on pop and culture.
Taylor Swift's got Country Rock.
People peep on pop and culture.
And Kanye's a social poppa.
People peep on pop and culture.
With Beyonce and Jay-Z,
Seen on top in magazines.

Peeps peep on pop and culture.
People peep on pop and culture.
There's a peep on pop and culture,
With no poop to stop.

Peeps peep on pop and culture.
People peep on pop and culture.
There's a peep on pop and culture,
With no poop to stop.

We feed on Beatles.
Those songs of Beatles.
We feed on Beatles.
And...
Prince is there with beats.
And Michael Jackson's Pop is sweet.

We feed on Beatles.
Those songs of Beatles.
We feed on Beatles.
And Lady Gaga just rocks.

We feed on Beatles.
And they introduced this culture shock.

Peeps peep on pop and culture.
People peep on pop and culture.
There's a peep on pop and culture,
With not a poop to stop.

Hurt My Soul! ! !

Ohhhhh My Soul Hurts! ! ! ...
My soul feels so much pain
When people would threaten people for their money
Or when people would give up their culture to a more dominant culture.
When a proud black man gets threaten, beaten, arrested or even killed
by the police. Why? because he fits the criminal image.
it hurts my soul how families don't have fathers
their teachers won't teach their students
because of their color of their skin or when straight A students
dropouts because of the so called 'Cool' kids and it hurts my soul
but the most thing of all when people across the globe
becomes bitter and selfish
or when young kids has no futures because no one didn't make them a
path to start they become criminals or
known as the menace to society
or maybe just become bums on your corner begging for change
and it just brings so much pain to my soul
as this continues on i strive to become opposite of
what they are...An Dark Echo To The World

In a Time of Diminished Expectations

If I should turn ecstatic, slap me. If I babble as do crippled
Souls, your Cranes and Dickinsons, be sure to drown me
In your well, and, if I take to big ideas, the sort which
Seemed so much in vogue about a hundred years ago,
And which, as if to compensate for all the rest of life
Becoming overly accelerated, called for use of foreign
Words and ancient myths and all of that, be sure to
Wrest my pen from me. We've watched the culture
Fall to ruin, fallen for all sorts of cant, and learned,
At least, I think we've learned, that elemental
Declarations, simple thoughts abruptly stated,
Said to be no more than what one mind believes
Its world is, have superceded big ideas. Another
Culture looms, I guess, and, with it, ecstasies and
Schema. I will hew to what I know...and hope
To slip your slap.

My father was

My father was
A colonized negro
He moved from rural Mississippi
To brick city St. Louis.
He knew how to be black
But he kept that to himself.
My father imitated his oppressors
Said yes ser and adverted his eyes.
My father died as a security guard
At a Kentucky Fries Chicken
Killed by a younger colonized black
A victim of European imperialism.
A victim of an imposed culture
To the miss educated black man
Who holds cheat as to be
Inhuman the life of blacks
Conceder deposable in
The American culture
That teaches us to be good negros
In the white way of colonial racism
Of the psycho-sexual norm
Of Occildemtalism

In A Certain Culture

In a certain culture,
People do eat and drink blood;
In a certain culture,
People wake up early to eat before they brush their teeth;
In a certain culture,
People eat animals already found dead;
In a certain culture,
People wake up early to eat before they bath;
In a certain culture,
People eat snakes and dogs;
In a certain culture,
People wake up to brush their teeth before eating;
In a certain culture,
People eat monkeys and crocodiles;
Ina certain culture,
People wake up in the morning to bath before they eat;
In a certain culture,
To be naked at the beachside is okay;
In a certain culture,
It is a taboo to be naked at the beachside;
And this is all about life on this earth!
Because what is sweeter on your lips is bitter on mine;
And it is very strange to experience all these facts around the world.
