Coup d'Etat
I’m comfortable with your confronting me
hurling, albeit politely, the epic query
haunting your ‘tolerance’ and a fever
to my soul. It’s frankly a relief
decoding the cryptic cause of my exile
in the context of considering your phobia. So
here, the facts: boys of my generation
marching in front of our tanks to eat into
the landmines. Women not unlike my mother
buried neck-deep for transgression
before having their heads smashed with rocks.
Your tongue has already tried obfuscations
avoiding the ‘sensitive’ appellation; I put
our minds at (some) ease by offering the term
‘Muslim’, and using direct monosyllables
to terminate the confluence of innuendo:
“What went wrong?” I briefly catalogue
the points of my suppressed pride: Persian
poets, those geniuses; Islamic civilisation
an absolute paragon of the Middle Ages. ‘We’
achieved so much: algebra, alchemy, Alhambra
Aviccena, Omar Khayam, Rumi and Andalusia
and now beheaded journalists, banished feminists
persecuted writers and pulverised regimes. What
did go wrong? You don’t require my noting
British divide-and-conquer, Russian missiles
US uranium-depleted and cluster bombs; and let’s
please avoid Israel. So I propose a date: 19 August
1953; and the place, Tehran. The event
the calculated abortion of the incipient democracy
of my native land. You know about
the coup that crushed our future, engineered
by the CIA with the mullahs’ collusion
and our king’s utter complicity? You’re right
dismissing my narration as apologia
for a nation’s impotence. Why didn’t my
grandparents oppose the US-backed generals
in the streets of Tehran on the day our chosen
Prime Minister Mosaddegh was toppled? Where
were our prodigious poets and philosophers
when Eisenhower’s operatives signalled
to venal clerics and commanded the junta? Here,
more facts: hurt by the grotesque perfidy
Iranians of my parents’ generation mounted
a Revolution against the coup’s beneficiary
the Shah; then the Islamic Republic; Sharia law; war
with the US protégé Saddam; and now
terrorism, terror against terrorism, and the terrors
of a nuclear war between Iran and, yes, Israel. You
find my discourse cogent yet, or predictably
tendentious? A history lecture in need of
an addendum of objectivity? You’ve finally
terminated the small talk, tightened
your grimace. I repeat my own morose
volition to locate an answer. Yes, we will
otherwise be prey to perennial fears and
contemporaneous wars. What went wrong
with noble hopes, ‘religion of peace’ and all
the bridge-building and culture-crossing?
The soulfulness of Sufi poets and the magic
of Scheherazade’s stories. I feel your
disappointment. A romantic quest narrative
crusading knights vs. ardent Saracens
instead of Cold War intrigue and Third World
servitude. I grant something went wrong
all those years ago, and continues to afflict.
Things will keep going wrong. But what would I
know. I’m only traumatised and feverish
by the event’s effects, forced into perpetual
exile. I’ve only survived. What do you think?

Poets are almost always wrong about facts. That's because they are not really interested in facts: only in truth: which is why the
truth they speak is so true that even those who hate poets by simple and natural instinct are exalted and terrified by it.

You Know Where You Went Wrong
(tennant/lowe)
---------------
Two men on the street
Drinking something cheap
No home, no family
Its cold, nowhere to sleep
Passers-by never catch their eye
Anywhere, one man drinks, the other swears
You know where you went wrong
You know where you went wrong
(aaaah) you know
You know where you went wrong
You know where you went wrong
(aaaah) you know
The old man cant understand
No one will shake his hand
I gave security, bombs and colour tv
It cost a few lives
Someones son always dies
No one shakes his hand
He dont understand
You know where you went wrong
You know where you went wrong
(aaaah) you know
You know where you went wrong
You know where you went wrong
(aaaah) you know
This is the history of the world
Of every boy and every girl
Who dont understand whats going on anymore
The history of the world
Of every boy and every girl
Who dont understand whats going on anymore
(whats going on? )
Two girls have a photograph
One looks, the other laughs
He could have been mine
Why did I change my mind?
Then hands on hips
The other girl says: admit! admit!
You know where you went wrong
You know where you went wrong
(aaaah) you know
You know where you went wrong
You know where you went wrong
(aaaah) you know
This is the history of the world (of the world)
Of every boy and every girl
Who dont (who dont) understand (understand)
Whats going on anymore (whats going on? )
The history of the world (ooooh)
Of every boy and every girl (every boy and girl)
Who dont (who dont) understand (understand)
Whats going on anymore (whats going on? )

It’s Not St. Patty’s Day
Bring out the green beer,
Let’s go to the pub that draws us so near,
Where we can have corned beef and cabbage,
And sing the Unicorn Song,
It’s not St. Patty’s Day,
tell me where I went wrong.
It seems that New York City's Empire State Building has gone green,
Not for Eire but for Eid-ul-Fitr,
One can concur,
That PC is the motive for the occurrence,
It makes no difference,
That six years ago plus a little more than a month,
The twin towers fell down to the ground,
Now making the Empire State Building again the highest point,
In Manhattan,
For Eid-ul-Fitr is the end of Ramadan,
I, for one,
-have no recollection of an Imam condemning the actions of a few,
And I, for one, seem to have my nose out a joint.
Is it odd for me to say, that the buildings owner,
The Malkin Group,
(Malkin is a Jew) ,
-could celebrate Ramadan as well Channukah?
The caveman says, “WHAT? ”
De-De-De says Carlos Mencia,
-the city of New York is a dupe,
They helped Hillary to run for president.
Hillary proposed a Palestinian State,
Charlie Rose was somewhat irate,
(“Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is the president of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He is in New York attending the United Nations General Assembly. He is, as you know, a very controversial figure, because he refused to acknowledge the Holocaust, the right of Israel to exist, and also there are accusations of Iran's support for terrorism and his desire for nuclear weapons.”)
Maybe the wearin’ of the green was for Mahmoud,
From midtown to the sacred ground zero where once the towers stood.

“Right Place - Right Time” “Wrong Place – Wrong Time”
“Right Place - Right Time” “Wrong Place – Wrong Time”
We all end up there
We believe it’s the right place
We believe it’s the right time
Why do we want it to be the right place?
Why is it always the wrong place?
Why is it always the wrong time?
“Right Place - Right Time” “Wrong Place – Wrong Time”
We are happy when we are in the right place at the right time
Yet when we are in the wrong place at the wrong time
We are lost
We feel like noting
We are sad
We cry
Our feelings getting hurt
Why can’t we be in the right place all the time?
Why can we be in the right time?

Sonnet- Life Is Flexible
It is not wrong to make mistakes often;
It is not wrong to do blunders in life;
It is not wrong to see mishaps happen;
It is not wrong to panic 'midst your strife.
It is not wrong to be lazy some days;
It is not wrong to make decisions wrong;
It is not wrong to squander wealth some ways;
It is not wrong to love a thing for long.
It is not wrong to come late while bell chimes,
It is not wrong to selfish be, at times;
It is not wrong to envy some sometimes;
It is not wrong to sin too many times.
It is not wrong to err where others don't;
'Tis wrong to feel guilty when others won't.

The World Was Silent Then
THE WORLD WAS SILENT THEN
The world was silent then-
Six million Jews among them more than one- and one- half million children murdered by the Nazis and their helpers-
And now when from one end of the world to another
One hears ‘The Jews are cancer’ and ‘We will wipe out the microbe Israel’ and ‘Every one of the Zionist dogs must be shot’
And when Ahmadinejad and Nasrallah and Kardawi and Imam this and Imam that scream for the blood of every Jew in Israel-
It is business as usual at the U.N.
And more North Koreans missiles in Iran
And Russian uranium at Bushehr
And Chinese technical help for the Revolutionary Islamic regime
And cowardice from the West,
And mild mild mild protest from an occasional leader here or there-
The world is largely silent again
The Jews are a small small people and Israel is twenty-thousand kilometers all in all-
And after all who has the oil and one eighth of the earth and more than fifty nations and with them too the most progressive of the most enlightened of the most extreme Left?
‘So why not let it be done
Another few million Jews gone
What difference does it make anyway?
They’re troublemakers aren’t they? ’
The world is largely silent again
And we can we our friends contend with them all
And overcome?
Pray pray for Israel good people wherever you are
We are in a long struggle to survive
And it is not going to be easy.

What Is Right Can Sometimes Be Wrong
what is right can sometimes be wrong,
like the right of a state to kill,
that to me is wrong,
like the right to have slaves
that was wrong, but they once
thought it was right,
something that feels so right
may, sometimes, be also be wrong,
like feeling love, and too much love
for a neighbor or yourself,
it can be intoxicating at times,
and it can kill you,
because what is right exists only
in our human minds,
limited, too narrow, too
confined in our flesh and blood,
in the context of our culture,
in the frames of our time,
to the dictates of religion
the liberality of our education,
to our biases and prejudices,
what we believe in, what we
touch with faith in dark places
what we try to light with candles,
or see in microscopes or see in
telescopes, or see with our eyes
and hearts wide open,
may still be wrong, or
still be not right,
so what is right after all?
Possibly, this can be right,
But possibly this can also be wrong,
We can always pray. But the doubt
Is always there. Cogito ergo sum.
Who can really be sure?

What Do You Need?
What do you need from me tonight?
I feel you look right through me now
I cant pretend its all right
Maybe well find a way somehow
Why do we need to turn it on?
Why does it always feel so wrong?
[chorus]
What do you need from me tonight?
The truth is so complicated now
You feel so free to say
Youre wrong, youre wrong
Youre wrong, youre wrong
Fear makes you fragile darlin
Hate is so heavy when youre weak
Now were both lost in anger
When were alone well find some peace
Why do we need to turn it on?
Why does it always seem so wrong?
What do you need from me tonight?
The truth is so complicated now
You feel so free to say
Youre wrong, youre wrong
Youre wrong, youre wrong
Youre wrong, youre wrong
Youre wrong, youre wrong
Why do we need to turn it on?
Why does it always seem so wrong?

Capitalism
Theres nothing wrong with capitalism
Theres nothing wrong with free enterprise
Dont try to make me feel guilty
Im so tired of hearing you cry
Theres nothing wrong with making some profit
If you ask me Ill say its just fine
Theres nothing wrong with wanting to live nice
Im so tired of hearing you whine
About the revolution
Bringin down the rich
When was the last time you dug a ditch, baby!
If it aint one thing
Then its the other
Any cause that crosses your path
Your heart bleeds for anyones brother
Ive got to tell you youre a pain in the ass
You criticize with plenty of vigor
You rationalize everything that you do
With catchy phrases and heavy quotations
And everybody is crazy but you
Youre just a middle class, socialist brat
From a suburban family and you never really had to work
And you tell me that weve got to get back
To the struggling masses (whoever they are)
You talk, talk, talk about suffering and pain
Your mouth is bigger than your entire brain
What the hell do you know about suffering and pain . . .
(repeat first verse)
(repeat chorus)

Theres nothing wrong with capitalism
Theres nothing wrong with capitalism
Theres nothing wrong with capitalism

O! Poets And Men Of Letters Awake
The world is in the shadow of nuclear war
Our own neighbor chatters to use the nuclear devices
As if a thing common or a child’s play.
O! Poets and Men of Letters awake
Only and you can save the earth from the imminent doom.
The weapons are with the so-called civilized nations,
As if the guns are in the hands of monkeys,
We too have processed uranium
Enough to combat the challengers many times,
But we possess patient hearts in the chests
And minds discreet, prudent and judicious in the heads.
O! Poets and Men of Letters awake
From the slumber deep for it is a time to weep,
Use your pen and paper and moments of nights and days,
Your talents, the power of your embellished words,
Weave the stories of novels dramas, and lines of poesy
To shake the inner most part of the souls
Of the leading heads of humanity who make a trade
On human blood: the most precious gist of the universe.
O! Poets and Men of Letters awake
Infuse into them astuteness to discern the difference
Between just and unjust, between right and wrong,
Instead of making tiresome efforts to please the kings
And approving their all actions though immoral,
Write not panegyrics lest you should become accomplices
Against the crime of trampling sanctity,
And deforming magnificence of the Mother Earth.
O! Poets and Men of Letters awake
Impede the itchy fingers of the leprous hands
Lest they should press the buttons in their own craze,
If once they push the buttons, there will be a chain in reaction,
And then holocaust, extinction of biological life,
The cities, the towns, and the villages big or small,
The parks and streets, the houses and huts will become silent.
The earth will move dull drab, into spaces around the sun,
With a load of skeletons, skulls and bones,
But all purposeless like an astray stallion whose veteran
Is killed in the battle and it runs away unrestrained.

Terrorism: War Of Today
TERRORISM, WA OF TODAY
mELVIN bANGOLLAY
This world we lived outlived many war
The war against nation's tyranny
Racial vindication for the weak country
Has made volumes of war history
Of terrorism against all humanity.
Today the war against terrorism
Still waging as a way of showing idealism
By some groups of people with dynamism
To take the lives of innocent victims
By the power of their goons extremism.
Everybody should be aware today
That terrorist knows no limit or boundary
To put the lives of many at their mercy
In their desire to see death everyday
As their joy and ultimate trophy of victory.
We should not let this be an act of patriotism
For the terrorist believes in this idealism
That to take the lives of Christians and Muslims
Is an act of greatness and noble living
For Allah or the Father God dislike this offering.
Along with all Poets in every land or country
I fervently appear to wage war against terror's fury;
I strongly believed that through our pen today
We can heal the wounds of war and tyranny
And light terrorist minds to stop their advocacy.

We As Poets
We as poets must command a sacred accent over a language of our choice,
We as poets must gift the minds of a failing generation,
We as poets must demand a clear explanation and a fair occupation,
We as poets must dissolve into particles and dust if we have not known enough,
We as poets must destroy the living standards of low quality,
We are to be the poetry of utmost perception and suffering.

Maybe you were joking
When you said tath you were walking out on me
Maybe, maybe
Maybe I was joking
When I said that I was running out on you
Maybe, maybe
I could be wrong, so wrong
I could be wrong, so wrong
Yes, I could be wrong
I dont know, but its been said
Decisions travel far from heart to head
Maybe, maybe
Maybe it was over
When you chuked me out the rover at full speed

I Need Something Stronger
And I wrote my happiest songs
every child may joy to you
What's wrong?
nothing but the real
it is you that needed something stronger
I need something stronger...
If you have a problem don't hesitate to ask for assistance
What's wrong...
What's wrong?
nothing...
What's wrong...?
What's wrong...?
(What's wrong?)
Wha, wha, wha, wha, wha.....
Can you feel this?
What is that buzzing?
Are you now, or have you ever, moved slowly?
I need something stronger
?????
???????
(What's wrong...?)
(What's wrong...?)
What's wrong?
It's just a matter by you looking it, that's all...

cause even he frowns upon the deeds you are doing
And you know deep in your heart
Youve no covenant with god
cause he would never countenance people abusing
You know apartheids wrong (qha), wrong (qha)
Like slavery was wrong (qha), wrong (qha)
Like the holocaust was wrong (qha), wrong (qha)

Wrong (qha), wrong (qha), wrong (qha), wrong (qha)
The pain you cause in gods name
Points only to yourself to blame
For the negative karma you will be receiving
cause when people are oppressed
With atrocities that test
The future of all mankind we, the world wont stand seeing
You know apartheids wrong (qha), wrong (qha)
