Chilly Chicago
October morning in Chicago, east side.
My apartment was damp, when a stranger rang.
My loneliness interrupted, shattered for a second.
You looked comfortable in the dress, I bought for you

Two Doors
A long time ago in a land far away,
a stranger appeared from nowhere.
He had journeyed through a portal
that govern time and space.
It pulled him through to a place
of which he knew not where.
On his arrival, he was arrested
and sent before the King
who was a wise old man,
and who loved to play games.
He looked at the stranger,
asked where he had come from.
The stranger could not say.
To say he did not know
was a crime throughout the land.
It was a plea of guilty.
The King looked at the stranger and said.
The punishment for your answer
under our law is certain death.
However, you are a stranger
so I am giving you the choice of two doors.
One door leads to happiness,
the other leads to instant death.
The choice will be all yours.
You will be taken to the arena,
given a special key
that will fit both of the doors.
At the stroke of twelve,
the stranger was marched to the arena
and left standing there.
The two doors stood side by side,
all he had to do was choose.
He moved towards them
and stood for a moment of two.
Finally, he advanced towards the left,
but at the last moment,
changed his mind and opened the right.
As the door opened,
the stranger gasped at what was inside.
Did the stranger open the right door?
I will let you the reader to decide.

Only In Chicago
I went back
Yes I went back to find out
What we did wrong and
I went back
Yes I went back to see just
How we could feel so good
In Chicago
We seemed to have it all
It was real
It was love
I went back
And I sat by the lake
And looked at the stars
And oh I swear
I remember how much we laughed
And I loved you so
In Chicago
I know we had it all
It was real
It was love
Only in Chicago
Love is in the air
In Chicago
There's a magic there
In Chicago
Our Chicago
Baby, you and I
We tried to take it with us
But you can't go back
'Cause I went back to find out
What we did wrong and
Now I see
That it wasn't just you
It wasn't just me
It was Chicago
But I'm still in love with you
Only you
Only you
But only in Chicago

Loneliness
Roy orbison/joe melson
Loneliness is the worst thing in the world
To be alone all the day long
No ring on the phone, yeah this is wrong
Low down loneliness
This loneliness, I must confess
Yes its a mess of this loneliness
Low down loneliness, loneliness all around
Loneliness, you have found me loneliness
Oh loneliness, all of the time
Such loneliness, youre so unkind
Low down loneliness
Loneliness everywhere
Loneliness, Ive got more that my share
Oh loneliness, my destiny
Yeah loneliness, was I born to be
In low down loneliness? loneliness

If I Was A Stranger
(wally rathie/tom rathie/ed stevens)
Published by beeg tunes/frankly blond music - bmi
If I was a stranger, lookin for love, standin in the rain
And if I needed some help from above
Would consolation be enough
Would you remember, could we forget
If I was a stranger, would you let me in
Find a place inside your heart, wash away my loneliness
If I was a stranger, would you let love begin
Right from the start, to the end
Ive been waiting all of my life, for love to arrive
Now that I found you, my soul is alive
This dedication will survive
I still remember, that night we met
If I was a stranger, would you let me in
Find a place inside your heart, wash away my loneliness
If I was a stranger, would you let love begin
Right from the start, till the end
Ive been waiting such a long time
For this love to come along
True devotion is so hard to find
Could you give your heart again
Wash away my loneliness
Would you remember, could we forget
If I was a stranger, would you let me in
Find a place inside your heart, wash away my loneliness
If I was a stranger, would you let love begin
Right from the start, to the end
If I was a stranger, would you let me in
Find a place inside your heart, wash away my loneliness
If I was a stranger, would you let love begin
Right from the start, to the end

I Looked At You
i looked at you,
and saw the fugitive
in my mirror.
i looked at me,
and saw the child in you.
i looked at God,
and saw the stranger waiting.
i looked at the stranger,
and saw my brother in need.
i looked at freedom,
and saw the bars of the cell.
i looked at the bars,
and saw my spirit walk free.
i looked at anger,
and saw forgiveness waiting.
i looked at forgiveness,
and saw the hands of love.
i looked at my body,
and saw the bird leaving the nest.
i looked at the nest,
and saw a world made of straw.
i looked at today,
and saw the scars of yesterday.
i looked at yesterday,
and saw the dawning of tomorrow.
i looked at the seed,
and saw the plant in fullness.
i looked at fullness,
and saw emptiness the seed.
i looked at you...

An October Dream
Awaking from an October dream
To watch clouds roll over rooftops
While my love lays sleeping beside me
The quiet stillness of the morning air
The whisper of birdsong beyond the window
A scene set to be remembered
Damp cotton wool clouds faintly grey
A whistle of a bird singing somewhere
Still, still she sleeps safely dreaming
A soft light across her face
The awaking passion of a heart
Set free into a morning sky
How fair, how beautiful this feeling
To warm the soul with little ease
Who cares for the dream awoken from
When a day begins like this
A morning picture remembered
When waking from an October dream

Loneliness
Heart breaks in loneliness.
A frosty morning; daylight repeals it, and I feel loneliness
on the eve of the day.
When it rains,
a swallow wants to denote a song.
But, after that world calls loneliness.
I see the river flowing, and I come closer to the bank.
I heard the river roaring more in loneliness.
When I stay in my study room
thinking past events, my conscience becomes more powerful in loneliness.
It’s better to stay sometimes in loneliness.
We need sometimes to alleviate pains in loneliness.
You see, love often adorns more homage in loneliness.
Loneliness…………………..
When a war ends,
It becomes time to return for soldiers in loneliness;
and we all mourn in loneliness.
Then we realize what peace is!
One day we all have to say the world ‘good bye’ in loneliness.
Yes, loneliness ……….

I Love L. A.
Hate new york city
Its cold and its damp
And all the people dressed like monkeys
Lets leave chicago to the eskimos
That towns a little too rugged
For you and me, you bad girl
Rollin down the imperial highway
With a big nasty redhead at my side
Santa ana wind blowin hot from the north
And we was born to ride
Roll down the window, put down the top
Crank up the beach boys, baby
Dont let the music stop
Were gonna ride it till we just cant ride it no more
From the south bay to the valley
From the west side to the east side
Everybodys very happy
cause the sun is shining all the time
Looks like another perfect day
I love l.a. (we love it)
I love l.a. (we love it)
Look at that mountain
Look at that tree
Look at that bum over there, man
Hes down on his knees
Look at these women
There aint nothin like em nowhere
Century boulevard (we love it)
Victory boulevard (we love it)
Santa monica boulevard (we love it)
Sixth street (we love it, we love it)
I love l.a.
I love l.a.
(we love it)
Etc.

Fall Drama
Like myriad jewels October comes
Topaz and flaming red
The length and breadth of slopes
And canyons of the White Mountains.
Rays of morning sun glint scarlet-gold,
Leaves glow in dew-damp air,
Give promise of never-ending loveliness.
O opulent October,
You give us one last show before
November winds ravage leaf and limb
And all your red-gold harvest lies
In heaps upon the ground.
O, October, how can we feel gladness
Beguided by your pageantry...
When trees stand bare and mute,
We wil remember your grand performance
Was but the prelude to a death-like sleep.

The Great Chicago Fire
The great Chicago Fire, friends,
Will never be forgot;
In the history of Chicago
It will remain a darken spot.
It was a dreadful horrid sight
To see that City in flames;
But no human aid could save it,
For all skill was tried in vain.
In the year of 1871,
In October on the 8th,
The people in that City, then
Was full of life, and great.
Less than four days it lay in ruins,
That garden City, so great
Lay smouldering in ashes,
In a sad and pitiful state.
It was a sad, sad scene indeed,
To see the fire arise,
And hear the crackling of the flames
As it almost reached the skies,
And sadder still, to hear the moans,
Of people in the flames
Cry for help, and none could get,
Ah, die where they remained.
To see the people run for life;
Up and down the blazing streets,
To find then, their escape cut off
By the fiery flaming sheets,
And others hunting for some friend
That perhaps they never found,
Such weeping, wailing, never was known,
For a thousands miles around.
Some people were very wealthy
On the morning of the 10th.
But at the close of the evening,
Was poor, but felt content,
Glad to escape from harm with life
With friends they loved so well,
Some will try to gain more wisdom,
By the sad sight they beheld.
Five thousand people were homeless,
Sad wanderers in the streets,
With no shelter to cover them,
And no food had they to eat.
They wandered down by the lake side,
Lay down on the cold damp ground,
So tired and weary and homeless,
So the rich, the poor, was found.
Mothers with dear little infants,
Some clinging to the breast.
People of every description
All laid down there to rest,
With the sky as their covering,
Ah, pillows they had none.
Sad, oh sad, it must have been,
For those poor homeless ones.
Neighboring Cities sent comfort,
To the poor lone helpless ones,
And God will not forget them
In all the years to come.
Now the City of Chicago
Is built up anew once more,
And may it never be visited
With such a great fire no more.

Medals
An enormous explosion threw the boy out of his bed.
He woke up on the carpeted floor, wiping out with his left hand
the crumbs of an interrupted dream. The room shook up as
another bomb detonated nearby with ear-piercing noise.
Shimmering red patches of light flared up in the dark ink
of the night.
Mother rushed into the room panic-stricken taking him down
in a hurry to the bomb shelter. This was merely a basement
shared with other people during the bomb raids.
When the sirens sounded the all clear sign it was already
morning. In the apartment the latched doors had burst off
their hinges. The window glasses shattered into a variety
of splinters and the striped curtain in the living room
became a colony of ribbons.
Looking out of the windowless room he saw long tongues
of flames shooting up from an incendiary bomb that fell on
the pavement. And then starting with a strange swishing
sound, like the tearing of a delicate lustrous fibre, the walls
of a house across the street folded up in a loud rumbling
thunder.
Mother later told him that the collapsing building buried
several people, including children. A boy of his age was
among them. She looked at him with a curious expression
which he never saw before and it made him feel
very uncomfortable.
“Oh”, sighed mother, “war is so terrible, so cruel and futile.
It is made by dour and stupid men in uniforms, decorated
with many medals, who really never grew up.”
“But father also had many medals”, the boy said.
Mother looked at him gently for a while. “Yes, indeed,
he had”, she said.
There was great sadness in her eyes.

I lived in the studio apartment that I bought for four years before I bought it in 1989, so I was already in it. I began living there in 1985, so I've had the same address and phone number since then.

My Kind Of Town
My kind of town, Chicago is
My kind of town, Chicago is
My kind of people too
People who,smile at you
And each time I leave, Chicago is
Tugging my sleave, Chicago is
One town that won't let you down
It's my kind of town
My kind of town, Chicago is
My kind of town, Chicago is
My kind of razzmatazz
And it has, all that jazz
And each time I rome, Chicago is
Calling me home, Chicago is
One town that won't let you down
It's my kind of town
Chicago is
The Wrigley Building, Chicago is
The Union stock yard, Chicago is
One town that won't let you down
It's my
My kind of town

Autumnal Sunday
Autumnal Sunday
Rain, it is October the month of melancholy
and you know that the blue sky and sun of
yesterday was just another foolish illusion
the cock didn’t crow this morning and dogs
ears didn’t move when a stranger’s voice
echoed in narrow streets, they knew it was
the voice of doom;
the harvester had arrived in coming month
the old would succumb to the damp breath
of death; not too many tears shed, faces in
a black frame, yes, that’s the way it is we
understand death if not our own. Dogs need
not be told, they snooze sure they are own
their own immortality

Want me 'round my door.

Gonna worry me 'round on my door-mat.

Ah loneliness

Loneliness
Loneliness
Loneliness
Loneliness.
Every day when i walk home
I see loneliness
When i waited for my baby.
You know i open my front door,
I said mr. loneliness is waiting for me at home
Lordy, lord at home, lord at home, lo-o-o-rd at home.
You know, i get home every day, lord,
There ain't nobody waiting there, man
And i ain't got no girlfriends, and i ain't got no boyfriends, man.
I ain't got no any kind of friends, man, i ain't got no...
My tv set doesn't work, my radio doesn't work, man.
I come home there's nothing
Nothing, man, there's no animals moving,
There's nothing, man
Walk in that door seems like i'm sitting there every day, man.
Lord, loneliness
Lord, loneliness
Ah, ah, loneliness
Loneliness
Loneliness
Loneliness
Loneliness
Lord.
All right!

The Face
You take a final look around
And then you put your house-key down
Upon the table by the note
You take your handbag and your coat
You don't want too much to carry
To slow you down on the way
You picture his face
In the morning
As he was going to work
Without saying a word
You saw the face
Of a stranger
It wasn't always like this before
His face like a stranger
You didn't know what to say
So you are going away
From the face of a stranger
And not the lover you knew before
Why should you want to call your friends
Why should you want to start again
You tried explaining through the years
But it would always end in tears
And one thing you know for certain
You've said goodbye to that place
But still
You picture his face
In the morning
As he was going to work
Without saying a word
You saw the face
Of a stranger
It wasn't always like this before
His face like a stranger
You didn't know what to say
So you are going away
From the face of a stranger
And not the lover you knew before
Somewhere a telephone
Is ringing in an empty room
Miles away
You are looking at a new town
But you are thinking of the past
The rain is falling down
Why do you keep that photograph
Of his face like a stranger
As he was going to work
Without saying a word
You saw the face
Of a stranger
And not the lover you knew before
His face
In the morning
As he was going to work
Without saying a word
You saw the face
Of a stranger
It wasn't always like this before
His face like a stranger
You didn't know what to say
So you are going away
From the face of a stranger
And not the lover you knew before
His face
In the morning
As he was going to work
Without saying a word
You saw the face
Of a stranger
It wasn't always like this before

Stranger Enter From The East
I went out a-wandering
Beneath an unknown sky
The heavens all shook violently
You caught my eye
A strange fruit fell
And struck me to the core
My heart became a single flame
It wanted nothing more
Stranger, enter from the east
Stranger, step inside this place
And hold me..........hold me
The clock became a bullet hole
Cruel and unkind
It hurt me with its second hand
Alone another night
Stranger, enter from the east
Stranger, step inside this place
Blue.....is that you?
Well, dont bother knocking on my door this time
Blue.....
Go be true for someone else
Theres no room inside this heart of mine
My heart has four empty rooms
Three wait for lightning and one waits for you
I must have you all to myself
Feel the full weight of your skin
Ill hollow out my insides
To place you in
Stranger, enter from the east
Stranger, step inside this place
And hold me.......hold me
Hold me

Stranger In A Strange Land
Stranger, stranger in a stange land.
He looked at me as one who should run.
We asked him to smile for a photograph.
Waited a while to see if we could make him laugh.
So did I seek for a cigarette.
His smiling face I cant forget.
It looked like it crossed the street.
He said, Ill wait here.
I wish you were here.
I wish you were here.
Stranger, stranger in a strange land.
He look at me like I was the one who should run.
I watched as he watched us get back on the bus.
I watched there it was.
The way it was there.
He was with us.
And I really dont mind sleeping on the floor.
I cant sleep after what I saw.
I wrote this letter to tell you,
The way I feel.
I wish you were here.
To see what I could see, and hear.
I wish you were here.

My Nordic Christmas Story
I bought boots for Christmas to tread the icy plains.
I bought toys for Christmas with Santas in my trains.
I lit my home for Christmas with a Cedar bright.
I made cup cakes for Christmas for my love's delight.
I bought Jane a dress for Christmas with ribbons pink.
I bought for my grandma a cozy Christmas mink.
I bought for Jill two amazing Christmas Sparrows.
I bought for Jack a toy quiver full of arrows.
I bought an Elk for Christmas with nose giving light.
I bought for Christmas, candles for a solemn night.
I made for Christmas a warm and sweet lemonade,
and I sang on Christmas morn, a sweet Serenade.

Stranger
On a cold and windy morning, said goodbye to my old friends
They were hangin around the corner,
They were stayin till the end
On the other side of midnight,
I was lookin for a place to stay
And one things sure for certain,
I aint never goin back again
The streetlights looked so pretty as they spread into a town
I was lookin for another sundown
And my head was spinning round and round
Chorus: lookin through the eyes of a stranger
Lookin through the eyes of danger
Lookin at the all-night dancer
Never takin all the chances
As I walked into the main street, saw a crowd across the square
And I heard a guitar playin and I saw you standing there
Chorus
Distant bells they started ringing, somewhere far off in the night
And the place was full of loneliness that disappeared from sight
