A Wallet With Memories, Not Money
Is it better to never have made any lasting memories,
And be completely detached from life and lovers and friends?
Or to fabricate circumstance and chance in an effort to romance
The mind into believing there can be any hope to recover days or make amends?
To this I have no answer, because I am slave to both ideals,
Both benign and malignant in result and consequence;
Neither heart nor brain attend to the other's appeals.
For logic says to remain stoic and distant and alone and... safe;
While love says to embrace things as they are and to live for today.
Born a natural cynic with a penchant for soft lyric and fine company,
A man of moral dilemma am I, underestimating the sway that she
Had on the every opinion and thought and emotion that made me.
Yet indeed at this point I am somewhat reassured, with fair opportunity
For new lives and new lovers and new friends and new, me.

Romance Bore Seduction
Hand blessed hand, caressed.
A blushing rose, her face;
Her breast alive;
The elfin nose, a diamond set -
A kiss upon perfection
Bore a rise of pulse
To coach a sultry moan
Across a mellow breath of wine.
He knew; he sensed,
And easing loose a clasp of lace,
Another sign of her relenting:
Wild the play of eyes,
A fuller glide of skin;
He felt the now begin -
Her swell, intention in the sigh.
And so to hedge his move upon the cue -
The cry of deep anticipation,

As Time moves forward,
And memories are made,
Remember your friends,
Our love will never fade.
The fun we all had,
The memories we bare,
We’re all still together,
And forever we’ll share.
The incidental things,
Both the good and the bad,

The Season For Romance
She smiles at him, he says, hello
They stand beneath the mistletoe
Embarrassed by the awkward circumstance
He asks her if shed like a drink
She says, I better not I think
Oh, what the heck, maybe just one glass
They talk about, oh, this and that

The slow soft sighing of the breeze, recalls a stir of memories.
Some good, some bad, some sad, some glad. concerning all the friends I’ve had
All of my youthful dreams which failed young love affairs which quickly staled
All of my petty victories I can recall with greatest ease.
My failures too are on parade, all of the errors I have made.
Insist on coming to the fore, they do not matter any more.
I have regrets of course I do I can’t deny that this is true.
Now looking back I clearly see. It wasn’t always up to me.
sometimes because of circumstance I was prepared to take a chance
and acted irresponsibly. Instead of thinking carefully.
When I was young, naïve and green Made promises I did not mean
in order to achieve my ends. Now it’s too late to make amends.
Some memories come as punishment and other memories are meant
to comfort me in my distress. Assuage the sins which I confess.
I think perhaps this might be true of each and every one of you.
I offer in my own defence that I learnt by experience
the lessons which I needed to as everybody has to do.

We Shall Always Be Friends
Do not worry.
You will lose me.
As your lover.
But we will always
be friends.
This is what you wanted.
But remember
friends drift away
often lose touch
one parting day.
For life is too busy.
New jobs and new friends.
Take us away.
Demand our loyalty.
Commitments of time.
Eventually we often find
a new lover we need,
to fill empty spaces in life;
to become our husband
or wife; to share our life.
To build a new future with
to commit all our time with.
But we can still be friends
with old lovers?
Spare them fragments
of our time,
every few weeks
or month or yearly,
or in our thoughts
and memories,
as time rolls on by.
The odd cup of coffee, tea,
or drinks, or social functions.
Conversations on telephones
a letter or card or two.
Especially at Christmas.
Time passes and we
remain good friends.
Even though eventually
we do not see each other.

takes our meetings away.
But we can still
remain friends.
As old lovers sometimes do.
But it is never the same.
It is progressive loss not gain.
