A Soldier's Valentine
Just from the sentry's tramp
(I must take it again at ten),
I have laid my musket down,
And seized instead my pen;
For, pacing my lonely round
In the chilly twilight gray,
The thought, dear Mary, came,
That this is St. Valentine's Day.
And with the thought there came
A glimpse of the happy time
When a school-boy's first attempt
I sent you, in borrowed rhyme,
On a gilt-edged sheet, embossed
With many a quaint design,
And signed, in school-boy hand,
'Your loving Valentine.'
The years have come and gone,-
Have flown, I know not where, -
And the school-boy's merry face
Is grave with manhood's care;
But the heart of the man still beats
At the well-remembered name,
And on this St. Valentine's Day
His choice is still the same.
There was a time- ah, well!
Think not that I repine
When I dreamed this happy day
Would smile on you as mine;
But I heard my country's call;
I knew her need was sore.
Thank God, no selfish thought
Withheld me from the war.
But when the dear old flag
Shall float in its ancient pride,
When the twain shall be made one,
And feuds no more divide,-
I will lay my musket down,
My martial garb resign,
And turn my joyous feet
Toward home and Valentine.

If you were my valentine,
I would be there in the morning
To see you when you open your eyes,
Before the sun wakes and the day begins.
To shower your bed with a hundred rose pedals
Until there's a garden around you
And yet you would still be the prettiest flower.

Pricking at the lonely hearts
Bleeding ravenously, angrily

Has anyone ever asked Jesus?
To be their Valentine?
I made a card just for Him
With a poem in which I’ve rhymed.
I could have done it in that normal verse
Written, ” Rose's are Red, Violet's Blue”
But I thought my dearest Savior Jesus
That I wanted to write something special, just for you.
I was going to cut the deepest of red paper
Into the shape of a GIANT red Valentine’s heart.
However, it didn’t seem like that was good enough
When I got my scissors out and tried to start.
Will you be my Valentine?
I would be so deeply honored if you would.
And I would be the envy of all my friends
To be seen, with a Valentine such as you.
Now you needn't send one on to me
For you’ve already given our world your heart.
Taking no concern of what your Father had in store for you
You knew your fate was pre-destined from its miraculous start.
To be born earth's King in a lowly manger
Then teaching those who would listen

M y lady Valentine is my loved one

Gallivanting Valentine Thoughts...
what she has in mind is all romantic.
valentine's day
enough of chocolates and roses
or this motel thing,
away from the home that we built
mutually for
25 years.
why not go out for a while?
be with all the strangers in that far away place
and celebrate love?
she suggests.
a beach perhaps, or an escapade with those zip lines,
or a hideaway somewhere
in the desert,
hmm, i said, let me think about it,
after valentine's day.

A Valentine Mystery
The day is drawing near,
Valentine day is here,
I have not heard from
Karina: the one I hold so dear
As all my poems does she read,
Comments on a few,
Gives me courage, to carry on,
This I must do.
As writing a new valentine not an easy task,
After all many years gone by, I sent out quite a few.
The thoughts all there, memories too.
The only thing gone wrong is whom I sent them to.
As any girl with ponytails, I knew what I had to do.
Many years gone by waiting for an answer this they never do.
As I left no forwarding address just hoping that they knew.
Some day I hope to get a Valentine from someone,
even if they don’t sign their name, I’ll think it’s just from you.
I be 83 my heart still has a spot, waiting just for you.

Looking For My Valentine
I keep looking for my Valentine
I want to find someone just fine,
who will make me feel sublime.
I don’t want him to stand in line.
There’s a man out there I know
who will love only me head to toe
and won’t be too fast but go slow
with God’s Spirit we will flow.
Lord You know deep within me
that I’ve been saved and set free
that I’ll fall down on my knees
praying that he’ll come, please.
