The Eve of Crecy
Gold on her head, and gold on her feet,
And gold where the hems of her kirtle meet,
And a golden girdle round my sweet;
Ah! qu'elle est belle La Marguerite.
Margaret's maids are fair to see,
Freshly dress'd and pleasantly;
Margaret's hair falls down to her knee;
Ah! qu'elle est belle La Marguerite.
If I were rich I would kiss her feet;
I would kiss the place where the gold hems meet,
And the golden kirtle round my sweet:
Ah! qu'elle est belle La Marguerite.
Ah me! I have never touch'd her hand;
When the arrière-ban goes through the land,
Six basnets under my pennon stand;
Ah! qu'elle est belle La Marguerite.
And many an one grins under his hood:
Sir Lambert du Bois, with all his men good,
Has neither food nor firewood;
Ah! qu'elle est belle la Marguerite.
If I were rich I would kiss her feet,
And the golden girdle of my sweet,
And thereabouts where the gold hems meet;
Ah! qu'elle est belle La Marguerite.
Yet even now it is good to think,
While my few poor varlets grumble and drink
In my desolate hall, where the fires sink,--
Ah! qu'elle est belle La Marguerite,--
Of Margaret sitting glorious there,
In glory of gold and glory of hair,
And glory of glorious face most fair;
Ah! qu'elle est belle La Marguerite.
Likewise to-night I make good cheer,
Because this battle draweth near:
For what have I to lose or fear?
Ah! qu'elle est belle La Marguerite.
For, look you, my horse is good to prance
A right fair measure in this war-dance,
Before the eyes of Philip of France;
Ah! qu'elle est belle La Marguerite.
And sometime it may hap, perdie,
While my new towers stand up three and three,
And my hall gets painted fair to see--
Ah! qu'elle est belle La Marguerite--
That folks may say: Times change, by the rood,
For Lambert, banneret of the wood,
Has heaps of food and firewood;
Ah! qu'elle est belle La Marguerite.

Elle était déchaussée, elle était décoiffée...
Elle était déchaussée, elle était décoiffée,
Assise, les pieds nus, parmi les joncs penchants ;
Elle essuya ses pieds à l'herbe de la rive ;

Attendez, attendez
Elle va commmencer
de chanter, oui, chanter
Ecoutes sa voie
Et, ben, voila
Tu dis 'ohlala'
'C'est incroyable ça'
Puis maintenant
Elle n'est pas effrayant
Elle n'est pas degoutant

Ma- Ma- Ma- Belle
Got love, if thats what you need
I got three or four babies sittin on my knee
I got love waitin for you
I come sneakin round the corner of the avenue
You gotta ma-ma-ma belle, or I will get you
You know you gotta ma-ma-ma belle, before I get you
Theres one thing thats on my mind
And thats getting hold of you before I serve my time
Ill keep on, with my heavy load
Till I see you come a strollin down that open road
You gotta ma-ma-ma belle, or I will get you
You know you gotta ma-ma-ma belle, before I get you
I love you ma-ma-ma belle
Thats why I want to get it all well Im sure you can tell
I got, good soul, runnin so deep
Gonna get you in the corner so that I can keep
Cant you hear me once ma-ma-ma belle

Francine a si bonne grace
Francine a si bonne grace,
Elle a si belle la face,
Elle a les sourcis tant beaux,
Et dessous, deux beaux flambeaux,
De qui la clarté seréne
Tout heur ou m'oste ou m'améne.
La belle n'a rien de fiel,
Elle est tout sucre et tout miel,
Et l'aleine qu'elle tire
Rien que parfuns ne respire.
Son baiser delicieux
C'est un vray nectar des dieux :
Elle est tant propre et tant nette,
Elle est en tout si parfette,
Elle devise tant bien,
Elle ne se coupe en rien.
Ce n'est qu'amours et blandices,
Mignardises et delices :
Elle sçait pour m'enchanter
Si doucettement chanter,
Atrempant sa voix divine,
Les baisers de ma Meline
Et tout cela que Ronsard
A chanté de plus mignard.
Elle sçait les mignardises
Qu'elle a de nouvel aprises
De Tahureau tendrelét
Plus que vous mignardelét.
Elle sçait ces mignardises,
El'les a par coeur aprises,
Du chant en ravist les cieux,
Et, je croy, les feroit mieux.
Il n'est histoire ancienne
Dont elle ne se souvienne :
En amours il n'y a rien
Qu'elle ne sçache fort bien.
Nul ne fait plus d'estime
De quelque excellante rime,
Nulle ne voit mieux un vers
Quand il cloche de travers.
Qui choisiroit une amie
De graces mieux acomplie,
Quand si heureux il seroit
Qu'elle le contraimeroit ?
Toutefois tousjours Peruse
Envers moy tousjours l'acuse,
Et m'engarder il voudroit
D'aimer en si bon endroit.
Quoy ? S'il me vouloit reprendre,
Quoy ? S'il me vouloit deffendre,
(Mais en vain) d'aimer mes yeux,
Ou chose que j'aime mieux ?

Lulla Belle
Lulla Belle won the big show
Got her picture framed by the window
In the hall where lovely girls go
Lulla Belle goes, Lulla Belle no
Lulla Belle, no, no, no, no, no
Lulla Belle, no, ooh, oh, oh, ooh
Beauty queen that you are
Put you down for a place in the stars
Take your picture for all the world to see
Lulla Belles leaving the ball
No more reason to stay
Or people to see
Cos everyone here knows your name
From the light on your face
In the frame that hangs
In the hall where lovely girls go
Lulla Belle goes, Lulla Belle no
Lulla Belle, no, no, no, no, no
Lulla Belle, no, ooh, oh, oh, ooh

Gypsy Belle
Well I got me a southern lady.
She's my gypsy belle from Tennessee.
She's got long dark hair and skinny legs.
Lord she sets my spirit free.
Well she knows I like that good ol' whiskey,
and she knows what I'm lookin' for.
She's the finest lookin' little lady.
Well a man could never wish for more.
Gypsy Belle you know I love her.
She's my lady from Tennessee.
And I know I'm always thinking of her.
Gypsy Belle you're the one for me.
Yes I know I ain't got much money,
but she makes me feel rich at heart.
Living with this kind o' lady
make any man reach the top.
Yes I know it ain't comin' easy
Lord I ask "Who's to tell"?
If I ever make a lot o' money,
well I'd give it to my Gypsy Belle.
Gypsy Belle you know I love her.
She's my lady from Tennessee.
And I know I'm always thinking of her.
Gypsy Belle you're the one for me.
Gypsy Belle you know I love her.
She's my lady from Tennessee.
And I know I'm always thinking of her.
Gypsy Belle you're the one for me.

River Bend
At River Bend, in New South Wales,
All alone among the whales,
Busting up some post and rails,
Sweet Belle Mahone.
In the blazing sun we stand,
Cabbage-tree hat, black velvet band,
Moleskins stiff with sweat and sand,
Sweet Belle Mahone.
In the burning sand we pine,
No one asks us to have a wine,
'Tis a jolly crooked line,
Sweet Belle Mahone.
When I am sitting on a log,
Looking like a great big frog,
Waiting for a Murray cod,
Sweet Belle Mahone.
Land of snakes and cockatoos,
Native bears and big emus,
Ugly blacks and kangaroos,
Sweet Belle Mahone.
Paddymelons by the score,
Wild bulls, you should hear them roar,
They all belong to Johnny Dore,
Sweet Belle Mahone.

Ma Belle
The world is full of charm, ma belle,
And blithe as you are young;
It echoes with a silver note
The lispings of your tongue;
It lays upon your fairy hand
A touch as light as down;
It smiles approval, and, ma belle,
You have not felt its frown.
The world is very rich, ma belle,
And all its gifts are yours.
It bows before you, little one,
And while the mood endures,
With roses, freshly garlanded,
Your pathway bright adorns;
But roses fade, ma belle, ma belle—
And there are left the thorns!
To snare your feet, the world, ma belle,
Has spread a shining net,
What wonder then, believing child,
If you awhile forget,
Midst suitors who to-night adore,
And may to-morrow range,
A love that has been always yours—
A love that cannot change!
What wonder!—still they whisper praise,
And I have oft reproved;
Of love they speak with eloquence,
And I have only loved.
Sometimes, alas, I envy them,
Yet in the days to be,
You may forget them all, ma belle—
But will remember me!

Beaucoup saut, beaucoup piqu
