Why, My Heart, Do We Love Her So?
Why, my heart, do we love her so?
(Geraldine, Geraldine!)
Why does the great sea ebb and flow? -
Why does the round world spin?
Geraldine, Geraldine,
Bid me my life renew:
What is it worth unless I win,
Love--love and you?
Why, my heart, when we speak her name
(Geraldine, Geraldine!)
Throbs the word like a flinging flame? -
Why does the Spring begin?
Geraldine, Geraldine,
Bid me indeed to be:
Open your heart, and take us in,
Love--love and me.

Vito And Rocco
Two little white Pugs that are brothers,
hard to tell them apart from each other.
Only Vito is the one that is friendly and plays,
Rocco is reserved and stands by at bay.
Vita Dominica was Geraldine’s mother’s name,
Geraldine told me her name means “Life of Sundays”
So Vito was named after Vita you see,
and Rocco was named after the father of Geraldine.
One of the dogs, I don’t know who,
can say “I Love You”
Yes, these 2 pugs get along quite well,
they are quite happy walking together with no bells.
They are full of energy and never run out of steam,
they know how to be good for their “special treat”.

Geraldine & John
See the bright red sports car, see the happy couple
See their clothes so white and their skin so pink
See them playing squash gotta keep their bodies supple
How they kiss goodnight but tomorrow theyll be thinking
All day long - all day long
Geraldine and john
See the happy couple - so inseperable
And the beat goes on
And for better or worse
They are married but of course
Not to each other
Geraldine and john gotta keep it under cover
See they scheme and sweat but its all worthwhile
Now he goes back home to a wife whos not a lover
Now her eyes are wet but tomorrow shell be smiling
All day long - all day long
Geraldine and john
See the happy couple - so inseperable
And the beat goes on
And for better or worse
They are married but of course
Not to each other
And the feelings getting stronger
That they cant go on much longer
Somewhere down the track
Something has to crack
Geraldine just packed all her things and went to mother
Johnny seems ok happy wife happy home
See the scar on his face from the day he met her brother
But nothing hurts no more, nothing more than being lonely
All day long - all day long
Geraldine and john
See the happy couple - so inseperable
And the beat goes on
And for better or worse
They are married but of course
Not to each other

Geraldine
My head is filled with olden rhymes beside this moaning sea,
But many and many a day has gone since I was dear to thee!
I know my passion fades away, and therefore oft regret
That some who love indeed can part and in the years forget.
Ah! through the twilights when we stood the wattle trees between,
We did not dream of such a time as this, fair Geraldine.
I do not say that all has gone of passion and of pain;
I yearn for many happy thoughts I shall not think again!
And often when the wind is up, and wailing round the eaves,
You sigh for withered Purpose shred and scattered like the leaves,
The Purpose blooming when we met each other on the green;
The sunset heavy in your curls, my golden Geraldine.
I think we lived a loftier life through hours of Long Ago,
For in the largened evening earth our spirits seemed to grow.
Well, that has passed, and here I stand, upon a lonely place,
While Night is stealing round the land, like Time across my face;
But I can calmly recollect our shadowy parting scene,
And swooning thoughts that had no voice — no utterance, Geraldine.

The Offer
'Tell me, would you rather be
Changed by a fairy to the fine
Young orphan heiress Geraldine,
Or still be Emily?
'Consider, ere you answer me,
How many blessings are procured
By riches, and how much endured
By chilling poverty.'
After a pause, said Emily:
'In the words orphan heiress I
Find many a solid reason why
I would not changëd be.
'What though I live in poverty,
And have of sisters eight-so many,
That few indulgencies, if any,
Fall to the share of me:
'Think you that for wealth I'd be
Of even the least of them bereft,
Or lose my parent, and be left
An orphaned Emily?
'Still should I be Emily,
Although I looked like Geraldine;
I feel within this heart of mine
No change could workëd be.'

It Was a Famous Victory
It was a summer evening;
Old Kaspar was at home,
Sitting before his cottage door--
Like in the Southey pome--
And near him, with a magazine,
Idled his grandchild, Geraldine.
"Wy don't you ask me," Kaspar said
To the child upon the floor,
"Why don't you ask me what I did
When I was in the war?
They told me that each little kid
Would surely ask me what I did.
"I've had my story ready
For thirty years or more."
"Don't bother, Grandpa," said the child;
"I find such things a bore.
Pray leave me to my magazine,"
Asserted little Geraldine.
Then entered little Peterkin,
To whom the gaffer said:
"You'd like to hear about the war?
How I was left for dead?"
"No. And, besides," declared the youth,
"How do I know you speak the truth?"
Arose the Wan, embittered man,
The hero of this pome,
And walked, with not unsprightly step,
Down to the Soldiers' Home,
Where he, with seven other men,
Sat swapping lies till half-past ten.
