William Cowper

Olney Hymn 2: Jehovah-Jireh: The Lord Will Provide

The saints should never be dismay'd,
Nor sink in hopeless fear;
For when they least expect His aid,
The Saviour will appear.

This Abraham found: he raised the knife;
God saw, and said, 'Forbear!
Yon ram shall yield his meaner life;
Behold the victim there.'

Once David seem'd Saul's certain prey;
But hark! the foe's at hand;
Saul turns his arms another way,
To save the invaded land.

When Jonah sunk beneath the wave,
He thought to rise no more;
But God prepared a fish to save,
And bear him to the shore.

Blest proofs of power and grace divine,
That meet us in His word!
May every deep-felt care of mine
Be trusted with the Lord.

Wait for His seasonable aid,
And though it tarry, wait:
The promise may be long delay'd,
But cannot come too late.

Hymn 129

Submission and deliverance; or, Abraham offering up his son.

Gen. 22:6, etc.

Saints, at your heav'nly Father's word
Give up your comforts to the Lord;
He shall restore what you resign,
Or grant you blessings more divine.

So Abram with obedient hand
Led forth his son at God's command;
The wood, the fire, the knife, he took,
His arm prepared the dreadful stroke.

"Abram, forbear!" the angel cried,
Thy faith is known, thy love is tried
Thy son shall live, and in thy seed
Shall the whole earth be blest indeed."

Just in the last distressing hour
Tie Lord displays deliv'ring power;
The mount of dauger is the place
Where we shall see surprising grace.

From Saul To Paul

Saul was a very zealous Pharisee, committed to The God of Eternity,
A circumcised Hebrew of Hebrews, opposed to Christ’s Good News,
Saul threatened to murder anyone, who avowed belief in God’s Son,
Fomenting great hatred and strife, against That Way of Jesus Christ.

Those believing in that time and day, were called people of The Way,
Saul then journeyed to Damascus, to arrest believers in Christ Jesus,
On his journey to destroy the Way, the Lord Jesus had words to say,
“Saul, Saul why do you persecute me”, said The Lord of the Pharisee.

This after Saul fell down in fright, all surrounded, by a Heavenly Light,
The men with Saul heard God’s Son, however, those men saw no one,
Telling Saul simply to continue into, Damascus, to be told what to do,
When Saul got up he could not see, and was led by hand into the city.

In the city Saul’s sight was restored, by Ananias a disciple of the Lord,
With hands scales fell from his eyes, through Christ, who he despised;
Yet some disciples were still afraid, because of havoc Saul had made,
But Barnabas a disciple of Christ, encourages Saul about his New Life.

God can save and change anyone, who comes to Christ, His Only Son,
Just as He changed Saul of Tarsus, to become an instrument of Jesus,
Christ’s Light, to the gentile world, as The Good News, he would herald,
No longer would he be called Saul, but now for Christ, the Apostle Paul.

Paul's Voyage

If Paul in Caesar's court must stand,
He need not fear the sea;
Secured from harm, on every hand,
By the divine decree.

Although the ship, in which he sailed,
By dreadful storms was tossed;
The promise over all prevailed,
And not a life was lost.

Jesus! the God whom Paul adored,
Who saves in time of need;
Was then confessed, by all on board,
A present help indeed!

Though neither sun nor stars were seen
Paul knew the Lord was near;
And faith preserved his soul serene,
When others shook for fear.

Believers thus are tossed about
On life's tempestuous main;
But grace assures, beyond a doubt,
They shall their port attain.

They must, they shall appear one day,
Before their Saviour's throne;
The storms they meet with by the way,
But make his power known.

Their passage lies across the brink
Of many a threat'ning wave;
The world expects to see them sink,
But Jesus lives to save.

Lord, though we are but feeble worms,
Yet since thy word is past;
We'll venture through a thousand storms,
To see thy face at last.

Tell me a story,

Tell me a story, And what I want to hear,

About a king in the Bible, of Saul and his spear;

He wanted to kill David, but David spared his life,

While Saul was asleep, David took the jug, spear, to show

Saul that he was near.

Please tell me a story, Of Esther the Jewish queen,

And of uncle mordecai, and Haman who was mean;

Wicked Haman hated, the Jews, and wanted them dead,

But he got his punishment, to be hung by his head.

Tell me another story, of Jonah and the whale,

When God said 'go to Ninevah, he needed a kick in his tale;

He ran the other way, then caught a large ship,

But; when a storm blew up, but he got the flip.

Tell me one more story, before I get off to bed,

How Jesus talked to a crowd, and food they were fed;

There were 5,000 people, and only 5 loaves, and two fish,

It was a miracle of Jesus, and not just an answer to a wish.

The Believer's Safety

Incarnate God! the soul that knows
Thy name's mysterious power
Shall dwell in undisturbed repose,
Nor fear the trying hour.

Thy wisdom, faithfulness and love,
To feeble helpless worms;
A buckler and a refuge prove,
From enemies and storms.

In vain the fowler spreads his net,
To draw them from thy care;
Thy timely call instructs their feet,
To shun the artful snare.

When like a baneful pestilence,
Sin mows its thousands down
On every side, without defence,
Thy grace secures thine own.

No midnight terrors haunt their bed,
No arrow wounds by day;
Unhurt on serpents they shall tread,
If found in duty's way.

Angels, unseen, attend the saints,
And bear them in their arms;
To cheer the spirit when it faints,
And guard the life from harms.

The angels' Lord, himself is nigh,
To them that love his name;
Ready to save them when they cry,
And put their foes to shame.

Crosses and changes are their lot,
Long as they sojourn here;
But since their Saviour changes not,
What have the saints to fear?

Baptism

Baptism
Randy Travis and Kenny Chesney
the summer breaze,made ripples on the pond
and rattled through the reeds and the willow trees boyound
daddy in his good hat, mamma in her sunday dress
watched with pride, as i stood there in the water up to my chest
and the preacher spoke about the clensing blood
and i sank my toes into the east tennessee mud
then it was down with the old man and up with the new
raised to walk in the way of life and truth
I didnt see no angels just a few saints on the shore
But i felt like a new born baby, cradled up in the arms of the lord
Amazing Grace, Oh how sweet the sound, there was glory in the air
there was dinner on the ground
And my sins which were many were washed away and gone
Along with a buffalow nickel, I forgot to leave at home
That semed like such a small small price to pay
For the blessed peace of mind that came to me that day
and it was down with the old man and up with the new
raised to walk in the way of life and truth
I didnt see no angels just a few saints on the shore
But i felt like a new born baby, cradled up in the arms of the lord
This road is long and dusty sometimes a soul it must be cleansed
And i long to feel that water rushing over me again
and it was down with the old man and up with the new
raised to walk in the way of life and truth
I didnt see no angels just a few saints on the shore
But i felt like a new born baby, cradled up in the arms of the lord
But i felt like a new born baby, cradled up in the arms of the lord

Jesus: The Man from Nazareth

Behold the Man! He's called God's Son. He's called the King of Kings.
He's called the Lord of Lords, at one with God, to whom He clings.
Christ calls God 'Father' all the time, yet what now can He pray?
For blasphemy was called His crime and this is Judgment Day...

Behold the Man! Behold Him now... transfixed for all to see.
With deep-pressed crown upon His brow... Blood-stained on Calvary...
From the wounds these soldiers open, when such are crucified,
His Blood drips down like mortal men who bleed on either side.

Behold the Man raised from the dead! Some say His wounds they felt.
The very places He once bled convinced them, so they knelt,
To worship Him and praise the Lord and preach to save the lost.
Such revelations aren't ignored by those who count the cost.

Behold the Man! Anointed Christ... The Saviour of Mankind.
The Lamb of God once sacrificed... The greatest love you'll find.
If Heaven waits, it won't wait long. God's Word tells what to do.
So trust in Christ who did no wrong. The King who died for you...

Saul Exercised Power Like A FBI Or CIA Agent?

It is said a leopard cannot change its spots.
Saul like an ancient homeland security official
exercised power like a modern FBI or CIA agent?

Please examine the evidence of Saul's extensive power.
Saul was present and sanctioned Stephen's execution. Acts 7.57-8: 1.
Saul went door-to-door looking for Christian felons. Acts 8: 3.

Saul was issued Christians arrest warrants. Acts 22: 4-5.
Saul believed he was serving God (the President and Nation) :
by enforcing the law and carrying out the orders

of the Jewish Sanhedrin (the Supreme Court) . Acts 22: 3.
Saul obviously had studied the laws of the Sanhedrin;
and received extensive 'field training' for those duties.

The very name Saul struck terror into first converted Christians.

Signs Pointing To The Christ

As the snake was lifted on the pole, Christ was lifted up to behold.
Bitten by snakes and destined to die they were told to look on high.
As those who looked were healed, at the cross Salvation was revealed.
We too were destined for the dust, but Christ my friend, died for us.

It pleased The Lord God to offer Christ to the world as a sacrifice.
The Spotless Lamb upon the cross saving men who are eternally lost.
Although He died bearing our sin by God's Power He was raised again.
He couldn't be held in the grave and was raised so we could be saved.

Jonah followed his heart of sin so God prepared a great fish for him.
There was Jonah filled with fright in the belly 3 days and 3 nights.
Jonah was to be a sign for the coming Christ who had been prophesied.
So Jesus gave up all His rights to be in the earth 3 days and nights.

And Christ visited prisons deep within claiming His victory over sin.
Then God raised His body for all to see, affirming Christ's Victory.
And all believers are buried with Christ to be raised unto new life.
One day soon our mortal body will be gloriously raised for Eternity.

He who had no sin died in our place, for this was God's Saving Grace.
He rose again in the morning hour, and this was God's Saving Power.
He rose in victory over sin so that all could have new life in Him.
He's coming back one more time, to bring Home His blood bought Bride.

Faith of The Saints of Old

The faith of the saints of old, is recorded in Scripture of us to behold,
Believers today in God of the past, whose faithful ways eternally last.
Past men and women of the faith, were kept by His Amazing Grace,
Looking always to God’s Love, for guidance and comfort from above.

Upon Moses, God had His hand, to guide him to the Promised Land,
The land of promise which He swore, to Abraham many years before.
And before Moses, it was his Mom, who was in The Almighty’s palm,
As she placed her baby in the reeds, relying on God for all his needs.

God then sent Pharaoh’s daughter, to find her baby upon the water,
As a son she would take him in, but God had his Mother care for him.
Moses was then raised up in luxury, as his people were far from free,
But God would use Moses the man, as deliverer from Pharaoh’s hand.

Moses would lead every Israelite, through the Red Sea by God’s might,
Today just like Moses at the exodus, in Christ, God can deliver all of us.
The Pharaohs that come into our life, are no task at all for Jesus Christ,
And as the Eternal Children of God, He goes with us wherever we trod.

God raised Christ up triumphantly, for today’s believers like you and me,
To help us through the seas we face, through the water by God’s Grace.
Scripture’s best example is God’s Son, who God raised up for everyone,
Now in the hollow of God’s Hand, we’ll reach His Eternal Promised Land.

Prophecy Update

In the beginning, Creation! No human soul, no Earth.
God's bright light for revelation, before new life gave birth...
Yet in the midst of space itself were prophecies in time.
Like Bible books upon God's shelf in libraries sublime...
When Adam sinned and Eve felt wise and Satan said he'd won,
God prophesied before their eyes to send His only Son,
The Great Redeemer of Mankind, the Righteous Holy Prince...
The only pardon Man could find to die for all our sins...
God chose a people as His Own, the ancient Israelites,
With sacrifices to atone, with laws and human rights,
With guidance like a nearby hand to nudge them on His way...
But they were slow to understand, yes, even to this day...

With hearts of stone, so dead, so cold, no faith to see things new,
God gave them wonders to behold, to change their point of view,
Yet still, rebellion twisted fate that He gave as a gift...
So they were weak and sometimes great, so close, then set adrift...
God's Son was waiting in the wings, obedient to God's will,
Because His Father knew all things and all vows to fulfil...
So when Christ came to Mary's womb, as fragile as could be...
Fear not, one day He'd leave His tomb and conquer Calvary...
New prophecies revealed by Christ poured out like blood red wine,
At Pentecost, men realised, Lord Jesus was divine...
They prophesied now Spirit-led, like David in his psalms...
For each one then was Spirit-fed and safe within Christ's arms...

When Saul of Tarsus met the Lord, God told him he'd be healed,
Thus Saul believed with one accord, by faith, as God revealed...
He then went on to prophesy in Scriptures old and new,
Like John of Patmos, by and by, to Gentile and to Jew...
So, humans, mark these words within, in hearts and minds God gave,
One day you'll see the Man of Sin who says he's strong to save...
That demon leader, fool and liar will share his pain and strife,
His mark will cost each soul hellfire, denied eternal life...
So, think again, Megiddo's men, before that awful fight,
For Jesus Christ will come again in power and in might...
No more the gentle lamb of old, God's lion's on His way.
Megiddo's men will then behold their final judgment day...

Leah

They defied the gods and earned their wrath.
Waters washed over their land
sinking it miles beneath the sea
to languish for centuries in myth and mystery.
Then emerged a mysterious woman
I found floundering near the shore.
She said her name was Leah
and claimed she was from a land
that sunk centuries ago
by the gods deep beneath the sea.
As the days progressed from the time,
I found her
this is the story she related to me.

My city is one of many
and my people are very old.
We learnt a long time ago
the key to immortality.
Ours is but a simple life
farming fish and seaweed
for our daily feed.
Over the centuries we learnt the secrets
all here seek to learn,
how to breath underwater
and above on this land.
It was while I was exploring
you found me near the shore.

We go out quite often
just to explore this world
to see if you have learnt
from the mistakes we made
when we defied the gods.
Sadly, from what we have seen
you make more than we,
but I fear that unlike us
you will never sink beneath the sea.
Instead, your cities will crumble
and you will be buried
beneath your city’s waste
when the buildings crumble to the ground

She then rose up and moved
away from my house back to the sea,
as I called out her name Leah
a wind came up from nowhere
carrying her name away from me.
Leah vanished back into the sea
leaving me with only mystery.
Was she from the fabled Atlantis?
Was she as old as she had implied.
What about the prediction for us,
did I dream it all
or was it an alternate reality?
These questions I cannot answer,
but each night I wander
alone along the beach
and shout her name Leah
only to have the wind
carry it away from me
to somewhere far out to sea.

Hymn 60

The Virgin Mary's song.

Luke 1:46ff.

Our souls shall magnify the Lord,
In God the Savior we rejoice:
While we repeat the Virgin's song,
May the same Spirit tune our voice!

[The Highest saw her low estate,
And mighty things his hand hath done:
His overshadowing power and grace
Makes her the mother of his Son.

Let ev'ry nation call her blest,
And endless years prolong her fame;
But God alone must be ador'd:
Holy and reverend is his name.]

To those that fear and trust the Lord,
His mercy stands for ever sure:
From age to age his promise lives,
And the performance is secure.

He spake to Abram and his seed,
In thee shall all the earth be blessed;"
The memory of that ancient word
Lay long in his eternal breast.

But now no more shall Isr'el wait,
No more the Gentiles lie forlorn:
Lo, the desire of nations comes;
Behold, the promised seed is born!

Hymn XVII: Jesus, From Whom All Blessings Grow

Jesus, from whom all blessings flow,
Great builder of thy church below,
If now thy Spirit moves my breast,
Hear, and fulfil thine own request!

The few that truly call thee Lord,
And wait thy sanctifying word,
And thee their utmost Saviour own,
Unite, and perfect them in one.

O let them all thy mind express,
Stand forth thy chosen witnesses,
Thy power unto salvation show,
And perfect holiness below!

In them let all mankind behold
How Christians lived in days of old,
Mighty their envious foes to move,
A proverb of reproach - and love.

From every sinful wrinkle free,
Redeemed from all iniquity,
The fellowship of saints make known;
And, O my God, might I be one!

O might my lot be cast with these,
The least of Jesu's witnesses!
O that my Lord would count me meet
To wash his dear disciples' feet!

This only thing do I require:
Thou knowest 'tis all my heart's desire
Freely what I receive to give,
The servant of thy church to live;

After my lowly Lord to go,
And wait upon thy saints below;
Enjoy the grace to angels given,
And serve the royal heirs of heaven.

Lord, if I now thy drawings feel,
And ask according to thy will,
Confirm the prayer, the seal impart,
And speak the answer to my heart.

Saul A Ravenous Wolf After Stephen Was Martyred

Saul like a ravenous wolf after Stephen was martyred;
went door to door in Jerusalem finding Jews to arrest
who believed that Jesus was the Messiah prophesised.

Saul's mission was to seek out kill all followers;
of Jesus who Saul believed to be a false Messiah.
If this is true where is the Biblical evidence for this?

Saul dealt outrageously with the congregation;
invading one house after another dragging out
both men and women Saul put them in prison. Acts 8: 3.

Vultures!

Vultures not aware that they are torturers,
Eagle may assume that they are simple predators,
Circling above the ground, enjoying the breezy wind,
looking down with deep eyes only for one thing.

When their prey is spotted, the concentration get centered,
Eyes on that prey, the thought on that prey,
Wings stop to swing before a forceful delay,
Legs, claws and the nails just land on that display.

Vultures are there in you and I,
When the business man looks for the business,
When the doctors wait for the patients,
When the lawyers wait for the clients,
When the leaders wait for the votes,
Vultures are everywhere in them, you and I.

Most Published Poet's = Christian Soldier's Love Poem

Humans have always had their need for love
Long before they could calculate the year.
Painting on the walls of caves and tombs
Stories of accomplishment, conquest and fear.

Life is a constant contest of struggle
Plagued by greed, love, war, work and debate.
Between all we love; those we tolerate
And some we can't help but hate.

I'd rather be loved and love in return
Then have a rich man's gold piled high.
Id rather be loved by someone worthy
With honor, compassion and no need to lie.

I'd rather be loved then be crowned a king
Of a vast empire of power and domain.
I'd rather be loved and never forgotten
Not alone, overwhelmed, and ashamed.

I'd rather be loved for my unselfish behavior
Eager to protect, provide and preserve.
I'd rather be loved for staying resolute
To my commitment to love and to serve.

I'd rather be loved for my awareness of duty
More than anything life can bestow me.
I'd rather be loved and receive God's grace
As I lay down my life before Thee.

FAITH, LOVE AND DELIVERANCE

A wise man gives up what he can't keep
To gain what he cannot lose.
All Through life we make our judgments
Praying for the right path to choose.

Believers feel God is a footstep away
With His love, forgiveness and power.
All we have to do is observe His word
And by divine intervention we flower.

Never be afraid to pray humbly to God
For His light to shine from your face.
The more we surrender and obey His will
The more we facilitate His Grace.

Life without faith, deliverance and love
Becomes a selfish person's hell.
By severing our Lord without question
We stay happier, productive, and well.

The Lord is aware of all we commit
Our secrets, joys, evils and fears.
Loving us despite our repeated mistakes
And even more, when we cry out in tears.

WHAITING ON GOD

God can make life glorious and rewarding
When we continuously stay willing to wait.
He's conscious of all and helps plan our purpose
When we trust Him without hesitation and debate.

David could have killed King Saul twice
But he was told by God to be patient and wait.
After ten years he was officially crowned King
For God was the master of his fortune and fate.

There's something about waiting we just can't stand
Though when we walk without God we fall.
When we patiently wait and trust His word
We're blessed by His forgiveness and call.

Waiting on God means we honor His will
As we purify our motives and inspiration.
When we heed His word we obtain His best
Trusting our future to divine creation.

When we refuse to submit we're overwhelmed by sin,
Fear, remorse, mistrust, selfishness and wrath.
As Christians we wait no matter how long
For God to reveal our purpose, destination and path.

God always knows what is best for us
And we must march to His will and power.
When we follow His commands we become as one
As His deliverance enables us to flower.

Promises

Two hearts that shouldnt
Talk to each other become close
In a town much like a prison cell
People speak our names
On the street in hushed tones
Oh the stories theyd tell
If anyone would listen
You come from a town where
People dont bother saying hello
Unless somebodys born or dies
And I come from a place where they
Drag your hopes through the mud
Because their own dreams are all dying
And when we walk down the street
The wind sings our name in rebel songs
The sounds of the night should make us anxious
But its much to late when the fear is gone
I will meet you in the next life, I promise you
Where we can be together, I promise you
I will wait till then in heaven, I promise you
I promise, I promise
Theres so many fighting
To get past the pearly gates
But nobody ever wants to die or get saved
Their intentions arent that good
And I can smell the asphalt
Thats their personal road to hell being paved
And when we walk down the street
The wind sings our name in rebel songs
But its much to late when the fear is gone
I will meet you in the next life, I promise you
Where we can be together, I promise you
I will wait till then in heaven, I promise you
I promise, I promise
