The Love Sonnets Of Proteus. Part III: Gods And False Gods: LIX

THE HAUNTED HOUSE
How loud the storm blew all that bitter night!
The loosened ivy tapping on the pane
Woke me and woke, again and yet again,
Till I was full awake and sat upright.
I listened to the noises of the night,
And presently I heard, disguised yet plain,
A footstep on the stair which mounted light
Towards me, and my heart outbeat the rain.
I knew that it was you. I knew it even
Before the door, which by design ajar
Waited your coming, had disclosed my fate.
I felt a wind upon my face from heaven.
I felt the presence of a life. My hair
Was touched as by a spirit. Insensate
I drew you to my bosom. Ah, too late!
I clutched the darkness. There was nothing there.

The Penintent

'NEVER,' he said, 'nevermore,
In the murmuring stillness of night
Shall I wait for her hand on my door,
Confident, light;
Still is the night as before,
And the stars unforgettably bright.

'Once from the deep woodland calms
At midnight a wild wind broke,
Shaking the cedars and palms
And the silver-gray oak;
And she, who had slept in my arms,
Suddenly woke.

'Pity me then, for it blew
Last night again from the woodlands so deep,
Where mosses and moisture and dew
Verdure eternal keep;
From the brooks and the glades that we knew,
It woke me from sleep.

'How can she know and refrain?
How being mine can she leave me like this?
Go, when this only is plain,
Life is no more than our kiss
Life is so lavish of pain,
So niggard of bliss!'

The Prisoner Of War

he waited from night to night
he waited till the son started peeling over the horizon
he waited till he heard the morning birds chirp
he waited for a long time
he waited for his father
his father lost at war
his father he knew since he was born
but as time grew
the boy felt so weary
the boy waited and waited and waited
his mother giving him the same face
the same face when his father left
and the same face when he didn't comeback
but the boy did not notice this
the boy never knew his dad has been lost
but until
until he strayed up one night
a night he would never forget
he saw his father walking about in the streets
his uniform on but he noticed something else
his father had many medals
but he knew nothing of them
all that he cared about was his father was home

the boy waited 10 years
his mother fell asleep in tears
for all those years
but then he finally came home

You'll Get There

(Since you wanted me, Since you wanted me)
I woke up late this morning
She said she wake me up
I woke up to discover,
This wasn't in my home,
Don't believe your heroes
They take you for right.
Don't believe the dangers before you kiss the sky.
And don't believe me,
I'm a liar,
You'll get to me in the end...
I feel your heaven
Never felt it before,
Ill breathe in the ocean,
And I want you to know
Ill feel your heaven
Never felt it before,
Ill breathe in the ocean,
And I want you to know
I woke up late this afternoon feeling so alive (since you wanted me)
The sensations you gave me,
They've, rearrived
Don't believe these angels,
They'll take you for right
Don't believe the dangers
Before you kiss the sky.
And don't believe me
I'm a liar
You'll get to me in the end...
I feel your heaven
Never felt it before,
I breathe in the ocean,
And I want you to know
I feel your heaven
Never felt it before,
I breathe in the ocean,
And I want you to know
Whisper:
Every time I look at you,
I see myself inside your eyes,
And I despise my own reflection looking back at me,
And I remember when I promised that I'd never walk away from you,
Right now I have to live with what i've done to you and what I have
become,
I am a liar
And the fire is not burning,
But when I lie awake at night it's you who is my final fault,
I live for you,
I die for you
I dream for you
I'll give everything to bring you back and let you know
That I will never flee from you
I feel your heaven
Never felt it before,
I breathe in the ocean,
And I want you to know
I feel your heaven
Never felt it before,
I breathe in the ocean,
And I want you to know

Thanks A Lot

Its all in your mind she said
The darkness and the light
The clock it bleeds for you
But you never got the time in right
I woke you up
And I slit the throat of your confidence
And we laughed in the night
And I felt all right
All hands on deck boys
Cause this ship was made to sink
Your swabber salutes you now
But I know what hes thinking
I woke you up
And I slit the throat of your confidence
And we laughed in the night
And I felt all right
Thanks a lot
Thanks a lot
Thanks a lot
The clothes she wears mis-fit
And shes nervous when she speaks
Her zombie mom and dad
Live in a separate house of freaks
I woke you up
And I slit the throat of your confidence
And we laughed in the night
And I felt all right
Thanks a lot
Thanks a lot
Thanks a lot
Im the one for you
Cause I know all the dirty things youd like to do
Im the fear in your eyes
Im the fire in your flies
Im the sound thats buzzing around your head
Thanks a lot

Thanks a lot

Day And Night Collided

When day met night
Everything felt right
Day awakes and starts new lives
Night sleeps but it's still alive
Day is always shinning its light
Night is dark but still just as bright
Day is crowded, full of living things
Night is empty, no awake beings
Day is wild, cause of what people do
Night is crazy, believe they are too
Day is dirty, it starts to match night
Night is clean, its gets quiet, just right
Day is loud, the noises surrounding it
Night is peaceful, no noises around it
Day is special, as special as it comes
Night is different, it's nothing, no one can see
They are both loved, we all are attached
But like they say, opposites attract

Look What The Wind Blew In

In the dismal darkness
I have sat and gazed, amazed
At the blazing factories
Like the lonely man
Who stands on the seashore
And I am afraid
As weary as I am
I try
I seem to see that things look ok
Run, run in your skin
Look what the wind just blew in
Many lovely ladies
I have felt, touched
And I was not afraid
I took them out dancing
Out romancing
And I was not afriad
Then somewhere from the north
This gale I knew just flew in
And I am afraid
Run, run in your skin
Look what the wind just blew in
Run, run in your skin
Look what the wind just blew in
Run, you got to run in your skin
Look what the wind just blew in
Look what the wind just blew in
You got to look what the wind just blew in
You got to look what the wind just blew in

Never Been

I've never been touched like this- I've never been
I've never been kissed like this- I've never been
I never knew it felt like this- I never knew
I never knew a love like this

Pardon me- excuse me- forgive me- I can't help it
But I see- the energy- 'tween you and me- and I'm selfish
Don't want no- other girls- calling you- never ever
Cause I want- us to stay- together- forever

I've never been touched like this- I've never been
I've never been kissed like this- I've never been
I never knew it felt like this- I never knew
I never knew a love like this

Believe me- when I say- there is no one- I mean none
That can do- the things you do- the things you did- and get done
And I believe- that I can feel- this way- for a reason
In all the ways- you make me feel- boy you keep- me breathing

I've never been touched like this- I've never been
I've never been kissed like this- I've never been
I never knew it felt like this- I never knew
I never knew a love like this

What you got- Them others don't- Cause you're the one I want
You make me hot- Them others don't- Cause baby you're the one I love
What you got- Them others don't- Cause you're the one I want
You make me hot- Them others don't- Cause baby you're the one I love

I've never been touched like this- I've never been
I've never been kissed like this- I've never been
I never knew it felt like this- I never knew
I never knew a love like this

I've never been touched like this- I've never been

Hunter

I was alone and sickly
It was a quarter of a moonlit night
I heard him cry through my window shade
And it filled me so full of fright
But I could not turn my back on him
I put on the back porch light
Can I help you, said the good samaritan
Can I help you, said the good samaritan
I brought him bread and a blanket
But I told him, you cant come in
You can sleep outside in the tool shed
Though a little rain comes in
Oh, I dont know you, youre a stranger
I dont know where youve been
You cant come in here, said the keeper of the inn
I dont want you in here, said the keeper of the inn.
But I couldnt sleep for the thinking
You know my night got so insane
I thought, maybe he was an angel
And I left him out in the rain
And what if he was the devil
Hed be coming after me again
But when I woke in the weary morning he was gone
When I woke in the weary morning he was gone
I thought maybe he was an angel
And I left him out in the rain
And what if he was the devil
Hed be coming after me again
When I woke in the weary morning he was gone
When I woke in the weary morning, lord, he was gone

A little Ghost Story

As I was going to bed
I turned out my light
tucked myself in
on a long winter's night
All of a sudden
I heard a door squeak
I thought someone was in my house
so I decided to take a peak
I heard the wind blow hard
and started to shiver with fear
and heard some noises again
but this time I knew I was near
I went into the living room
and noticed my door was opened wide
squeaking back and forth
I laughed so hard I almost cried
So I decided to go back up to my room
When I heard some terrible cries
I rushed to my room real quick
but a ghost stopped me in surprise
I ran and yelled
and I ran outside my house right then
and decided I would never
go back to that house again
At my new house
I turned out the light
you can probably guess
what went on that night

What The Chimney Sang

Over the chimney the night-wind sang
And chanted a melody no one knew;
And the Woman stopped, as her babe she tossed,
And thought of the one she had long since lost,
And said, as her teardrops back she forced,
'I hate the wind in the chimney.'

Over the chimney the night-wind sang
And chanted a melody no one knew;
And the Children said, as they closer drew,
'`Tis some witch that is cleaving the black night through,
`Tis a fairy trumpet that just then blew,
And we fear the wind in the chimney.'

Over the chimney the night-wind sang
And chanted a melody no one knew;
And the Man, as he sat on his hearth below,
Said to himself, 'It will surely snow,
And fuel is dear and wages low,
And I`ll stop the leak in the chimney.'

Over the chimney the night-wind sang
And chanted a melody no one knew;
But the Poet listened and smiled, for he
Was Man and Woman and Child, all three,
And said, 'It is God`s own harmony,
This wind we hear in the chimney.'

To wander, missing the goal

The king had a halt to pass out the night.
The charioteer had to guard the horse
For which he must not sleep through out the night.
The king suggested thinking on something.

The king woke up a few hours later and
Found him awake thinking about something.
Questioned, he told he was counting the stars.
Complimenting him, the king went to sleep.

The king woke up after a few hours and
Found him awake with something in mind.
Asked, he said that he was watching the clouds.
Patting on his back, the king went to sleep.

The king woke up in the early hour and
Found him still awake and felt quite assured.
‘I was thinking if the horse left itself
Or someone chased it.', he said candidly.

He took full efforts not to fall asleep
And in the process he missed the purpose.
Devotion to the rites and the rituals
Will tie you to the religion, not the God.

Collide

I felt my heart collapse
On the day that I met him
I felt my heart collapse
It filled up to the rim
I felt my heart collapse
When my eyes traveled 'round
I felt my heart collapse
The one I had found

I felt my heart collapse
When he first touched my skin
I felt my heart collapse
Oh it seemed a lovely sin
I felt my heart collapse
It fell without a sound
I felt my heart collapse
Oh I knew I had found

I felt my heart collapse
When we shared that first kiss
I felt my heart collapse
I thought that I would almost miss
I felt my heart collapse
I was lost in his embrace
I felt my heart collapse
I kept staring at his face

Oh my heart collapsed on that day
Ever since it's been that same way
My love for you has not faded
Ever since the day it escaped

When Somebody Turns You On

Can you hear me? am I loud enough?
Could you see it coming like an avalanche?
I only felt the need
When somebody turns you on
It's like a light in the dark goes on
It's like you've waited for rain, you waited so
Long
When somebody turns you on.
Were you waiting when you took my hand?
Were you aching with me? did you understand?
I only felt the heat
When somebody turns you on
It's like a light in the dark goes on
It's like you've waited for rain, you waited so
Long
When somebody turns you on.
Now I know this is real
I know 'cause I know 'cause I feel
Your eyes go straight to my soul
And I know this is good
It goes deep like I know it should
We've just got to let love grow
When somebody turns you on
It's like a light in the dark goes on
It's like you've waited for rain, you waited so
Long
When somebody turns you on.

Silence, Not Death

I START! I have slept for a moment;
I have dreamt, sitting here by her chair—
Oh, how lonely! What was it that touched me?
What presence, what heaven-sent air?

It was nothing, you say. But I tremble!
I heard her, I knew she was near—
Felt her breath, felt her cheek on my forehead—
Awake or asleep, she was here!

It was nothing—a dream? Strike that harp-string;
Again—still again—till it cries
In its uttermost treble—still strike it—
Ha? vibrant but silent! It dies—

It dies, just as she died. Go, listen—
That highest vibration is dumb.
Your sense, friend, too soon finds a limit
And answer, when mysteries come.

Truth speaks in the senseless, the spirit;
But here in this palpable part
We sound the low notes, but are silent
To music sublimed in the heart.

Too few and too gross our dull senses,
And clogged with the mire of the road,
Till we loathe their coarse bondage; as seabirds
Encaged on a cliff, look abroad

On the ocean and limitless heaven,
Alight with the beautiful stars,
And hear what they say, not the creakings
That rise from our sensual bars.

O life, let me dream, let her presence
Be near me, her fragrance, her breath;
Let me sleep, if in slumber the seeking;
Sleep on, if the finding be death.

I slept with a Virgin Beggar-Maid

It's a Starry night and I was bit drunk.
I saw the run away Rabbit from the Moon
And it's drowning in the milky way.
The poor queen; her ramshackle castle on the pavement,
She quietly sleeps and I count her ribs.
The broken-plastered Crown shines in the darkness.
Her flimsy nightdress transparent and it's very comfortable,
I rest on the soft pillow of her warm bosom.
Her skinny breast full of compassion and the prominent dark nipples
Like sharp blades tickle my haunted soul.
I touched her soft spoken heart with my wounded index finger
But she was fast asleep after her strenuous beggary.
I heard the ruling King's gossips who was disguised as a lunatic
And trespassed in our premises.
I woke up to a siren of a city Ambulance and realized it's a dream.
My beloved wife groans aside of me and I tried to imagine her smiley face,
But in reality, I would never get an opportunity to see her saintly face again.

Heaven

Everynight I go to sleep, youre there baby inside my head
Whats the secret that you keep
Its not fair baby, I toss in bed
One night I had the strangest dream
Dreamt I made love to you
You better believe it, it felt so real
Spent the night in the sea of love
Its crazy the attraction that I feel, now baby
It hit like a heart attack, I feel in my soul
But the trains running off the track and I cant get control
Sleepwalking in the house of love
I heard saint peter was calling
As I was making love to you
Dreamed that Id died and gone to heaven
I woke up in your arms
Dreamed that I died and gone to heaven
Nothing now will ever be the same
Saint peter call me back again
Take me there baby, you got me good
I want to hear his choir of angels sing
I say a prayer baby, I knock on wood
That every night I wake up restless from the heat
You got to believe I never had such a physical dream baby
Its built on sacred ground, your image in my head
So I lay my body down on the alter of my bed
I wait in the house of love and hope for sleep to come calling
So Ill be making love to you
Dreamed that Id died and gone to heaven
I woke up in your arms
Dreamed that I died and gone to heaven
Nothing now will ever be the same
Dreamed Id died and gone to heaven
Dreamed my life was through
Dreamed Id died and gone to heaven, woke in love with you
It hit like a heart attack, it came from out of nowhere
But the trains running off the track on a fragile wing and a prayer
Sleepwalking in the house of love I heard saint peter was calling
As I was making love to you

First 4 Stanzas of MY VERSION of 'The Raven' by E. A. Poe

Once upon a bright spring morning, while I pondered about the heat,
Over many a splendid and soothing volume of forgotten sound,
While I nodded, nearly speechless, suddenly there came a knocking.
As of someone gently tapping, tapping at my house all around.
' 'Tis some visitor, ' I whispered, 'tapping at my house all around-
Only this, 'twas all I found.'

Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the sparkling April,
And each separate blooming flower circled the room round.
Eagerly, I wished for more- I had to try to find
A dog of some sort that could hunt- maybe something like a hound-
For the rare and radiant maiden so she could have a hound-
Nothing else that I had found.

And the vibrant, vibrating uncertain rustling of each blue curtain
Thrilled me-filled me with fantastic elation never felt before;
So that now, to still the fast beats of my heart, I stood saying
' 'Tis some visitor trying to come in at my door weighing a pound-
Some late visitor trying to come on at my door weighing a pound-
This it is, it was all I found.'

Presently my soul grew in strength; hesitating for a short time,
'Sir, ' said I, 'or Madam, truly you have great reason for being profound;
But the fact that you are here, and so gently you came knocking
And so faintly did I hear you, tapping at my house all around.
That I knew you would be here' - here I opened the door weighing a pound-
An angel there, with beautiful seraph sound.

The Vain Spell

THE house sleeps dark and the moon wakes white,
The fields are alight with dew;
'Oh, will you not come to me, Love, to-night?
I have waited the whole night through,
For I knew,
O Heart of my heart, I knew by my heart,
That the night of all nights is this,
When elm shall crack and lead shall part,
When moulds shall sunder and shot bolts start
To let you through to my kiss.'

So spake she alone in the lonely house.
She had wrapped her round with the spell,
She called the call, she vowed the vow,
And the heart she had pledged knew well
That this was the night, the only night,
When the moulds might be wrenched apart,
When the living and dead, in the dead of the night,
Might clasp once more, in the grave's despite,
For the price of a living heart.

But out in the grave the corpse lay white
And the grave clothes were wet with dew;
'Oh, will you not come to me, Love, to-night,
I have waited the whole night through,
For I knew
That I dared not leave my grave for an hour
Since the hour of all hours is near,
When you shall come to the hollow bower,
In a cast of the wind, in a waft of the Power,
To the heart that to-night beats here!'

The moon grows pale and the house sleeps still
Ah, God! do the dead forget?
The grave is white and the bed is chill,
But a guest may be coming yet.
But the hour has come and the hour has gone
That never will come again;
Love's only chance is over and done,
And the quick and the dead are twain, not one,
And the price has been paid in vain.

In You

Saw you in a picture
shining like the morning sun
that's when I just knew
girl, I had to make you mine
on down the line

Those eyes so bright
an Angel in disguise
like rays through a light
coming down from heaven above
beautiful as a morning dove

I knew you were the one
to heal this lonely heart
saw in you a special love
forever in you
my one and only cure
a love that never dies
knew it from the start

And though the miles keep us apart
days pass, you're never gone
for you, I'll keep holding on
til I'm there by your side
holding you in my arms at night
til we both subside

You touched me in a way
I never felt before
like colors of a rainbow
after an evening rain
you washed my pain away
now nothing here the same will remain
and I'll love you forever more
