The Temple of Friendship
Sacred to peace, within a wood's recess,
A blest retreat, where courtiers never press,
A temple stands, where art did never try
With pompous wonders to enchant the eye;
There are no dazzling ornaments, nor vain,
But truth, simplicity, and nature reign:
The virtuous Gauls raised erst the noble shrine,
And sacred vowed to Friendship's power divine.
Mistaken mortals who believed their race,
Would never cease to crowd to such a place!
Orestes' name, and Pylades' appear,
Wrote on the front, names still to Friendship dear:
Pirithous' medal of uncommon size,
Those of soft Nisus and Achates wise.
All these are heroes, and as friends renowned,
These names are great, but still in fable found;
The power to this remote retreat retired,
Nor Tripod boasts, nor priests with truth inspired;
She miracles but seldom can effect,
No popish saint e'er met with such neglect.
Still in her presence faithful truth attends,
And to the goddess needful succor lends:
Truth's every ready to enlighten all,
But few on truth for kind assistance call.
In vain she waits for votaries at her shrine,
None come, though all at wanting her repine;
Her hand holds forth the register exact,
Of every generous, every friendly act;
Favors in which esteem with friendship vied,
Received not meanly, not conferred with pride:
Such favors as those who confer forget,
And who receive, declare without regret.
This history of the virtues of mankind,
Within a narrow compass is confined;
In Gothic characters all these are traced
Upon two sheets, by time almost defaced.
By what strange frenzy is mankind possessed,
Friendship is banished now from every breast;
Yet all usurp of Friend the sacred name,
And vilest hypocrites bring in their claim.
All that they're faithful to her laws maintain,
And even her enemies her rights profane:
In regions subject to the pope's command,
Thus we see beads oft in an atheist's hand.
'Tis said the goddess, each pretended friend,
Once in her presence summoned to attend;
She fixed the day on which they should be there,
A prize proposing for each faithful pair;
Who with a tenderness like hers replete,
Amongst true friends might justly claim a seat;
Then quickly came allured by such a prize,
The French who novelty still idolize:
A multitude before the temple came,
And first, two courtly friends preferred their claim,
By interest joined, thy walked still hand in hand,
And of their union Friendship thought the band:
Post-haste a courier came and made report,
That there was then a vacancy at court;
Away each friend polite that moment flies,
Forsakes at once the temple and the prize;
Thus in a moment friends are turned to foes,
Each swears his rival warmly to oppose:
Four devotees next issue from the throng,
Poring on prayer-books as they pass along;
Their charity to mankind overflows,
And with religious zeal their bosom glows.
A pampered prelate one with fat o'ergrown,
Triple-chinned, much to apoplexy prone;
The swine quite gorged with tithes, and overfed,
At length by indigestion's force lies dead:
Quick the confessor clears the sinner's score,
His soles are greased, his body sprinkled o'er,
And spruced up by the curate of the place,
To go his heavenly journey with good grace;
His three friends o'er him merrily say prayers,
His benefice alone excites their cares:
Devoutly rivals grown, each still pretends
Attachment most sincere to both his friends;
Yet all in making interest at the court,
Their brothers downright Jansenists report.
Two youths of fashion next came arm in arm,
Their eyes and hearts, their mistress letters charm:
These as they passed along they read aloud,
And both displayed their persons to the crowd;
Some favorite airs they sing, while they advance
Up to the altar, just as to a dance:
They fight about some trifle, one is slain,
And Friendship's altar hence receives a stain;
The less mad of the two with conquest crowned,
Left his dear friend expiring on the ground.
Next Lisis, with her much loved Chloe came,
From infancy their pleasures were the same;
Alike their humor, and alike their age,
Those trifles which the female heart engage;
Lisis was prone to Chloe to impart,
They spoke the overflowings of the heart;
At last one lover touched both female friends,
And strange to tell! here all their Friendship ends;
Lisis and Chloe Friendship's shrine forsake,
And the high road to Hatred's temple take.
The beauteous Zara shone forth in her turn,
With eyes that languish, whilst our hearts they burn:
'What languor,' said she, 'reigns in this abode!
By that sad goddess, say what joy's bestowed?
Here dismal melancholy dwells alone,
For love's soft joys are ever here unknown.'
Leaving the place, crowds followed her behind,
And struck with envy, twenty beauties pined:
Where next my Zara went, is known to none,
And Friendship's glorious prize could not be won:
The goddess everywhere so much admired;
So little known, and yet by all admired;
With cold upon her sacred altar froze--
Hence hapless mortals, hence derive your woes.

Friendship Day Poem
I cannot make friends all the time!
I can't keep friendship forever;
I cannot have too many foes;
I cannot live in joys or woes!
A good friend is a life-long thing;
A best friend is something so rare;
But friends are not ideal always;
One's kith and kin matters some days!
Relationship is in your hands!
You can turn something sweet or sour;
Getting a friend is just one thing;
Keep the friendship live and sing!
Take just the best out of this life!
Ignore defects and faults of past;
What you give unto others, speaks;
The wise man for true friendship, seeks!

Friendship Never Sinks
A good friend is a catalyst,
As he lights up the mood fast,
Listens to stories with interest,
Laughs to the same old jokes funniest,
Shows the best smile day after day,
Feels sad, moody, vibrant and happy,
As to the mood of the dearest pals,
Friendship is an emotion,
That is easy to flare and douse,
A friend will be a foe,
A foe will be a friend,
As the minds see another,
As a human or a fiend,
We have many friends around,
For whom We will speak aloud,
For us once a friend always the friend,
Our wishes to all our friends,
Who have known us since we were small,
call us in different names,
trust us that all our secrets,
never been shared to anyone else,
because you are our friends,
and value your friendship,
in your presence and even in absence.

Precious
Friendship has no price
Value of friendship is incalculable
No price, friendship has
Be together and be friends
Of each other, be a friend
Priceless, I call it
Truly priceless this attachment can be described as
Cannot ever identify it as cheap or expensive
Friendship, makes one be elevated
Links together this union as it brings closer two friends, who were unknown
Has no price, precious I call it.

The Temple of Friendship
IN the depths of the silent wood the temple of Friendship stood,
Like a dream of snow-white stone, or a vestal all alone,
Undraped beside a stream.
The pious from every clime came there to rest for a time,
With incense and gifts and prayer; and the stainless marble stair
Was worn by fervent knees.
And everywhere the fame of the beautiful temple came,
With its altar white and pure, and its worship to allure
From gods that bring unrest.
The goddess was there to assuage (for this was the Golden Age)
The trials of all who staid and trustingly tried and prayed
For the perfect grace.
Soldier and clerk and dame in couples and companies came;
There were few who rode alone, for none feared the other one,
So placid and safe the creed.
There came from afar one day, with a suite in rich array,
A lady of beauty rare, who bent to the plaintive air
A handsome minstrel sung.
Her face was as calm and cold as the stamp of a queen on gold,
And the song the poet sung to a restful theme was strung,
A tranquil air of peace.
But, as they happily rode to the holy and white abode,
They were watched from a cloud above by the mischievous god of Love,
Who envied Friendship's reign.
They dreamt not of danger near, and their hearts felt no shade of fear,
As they laid their rich offerings of flowers and precious things
At Friendship's lovely feet.
They lingered long near the shrine, in the air of its peace divine;
By the shadowed stream they strayed, where often the heavenly maid
Would smile upon their rest.
One day, with her white robe flown, she passed like a dream alone,
Where they sat in a converse sweet, with the silver stream at their feet
As still and as wise as they.
To the innermost temple's room, to the couch, and the sacred loom
Where she weaves her placid will, the goddess came, smiling still,
Unrobing for blissful rest.
O lily of perfect mold, the world had grown young, not old,
Had it bowed at thy milk-white feet with a love not of fire, but heat,—
Sweet lotus of soft repose!
Like the moon her body glows, like the sun-flushed Alpine snows;
Her arms 'neath her radiant head, she sleeps, and lo! o'er her bed
The wicked Cupid leans.
Even he cannot fly the feast which nor vestal nor hoary priest
Had ever enjoyed before. But, stealing her robe from the floor,
He dons it and is gone.
By the stream, in the silent shade, he walks where the two have made
Their resting-place for the noon: ''Tis Friendship!' they cry; and soon
Love's guile on their hearts is laid.
'O, the goddess is good!' she said, as she bent her golden head
And looked in the minstrel's face. 'She stands by our resting-place
And blesses our peaceful love!'
As she spoke, a flame shot through her breast, and her eyes of blue
Grew moist with a subtle bliss. 'Sweet friend!' she cried, and her kiss
Clung soft on the poet's lips.
'Ah, me!' he sighed, 'if they knew, those feverish lovers who woo
For the passion of tears and blood, how soothing and pure and good
Is a friendly kiss—like this!'
'O, list! ' she cried, ' 'tis a dove; he calls for his absent love;
They will sit all day and coo calm friendship, like mine for you,—
Dear friend, like mine for you.'
Their hands were joined, and a thrill of desire and passionate will
Brought his eyes her eyes above in a marvelous look of love,
And Cupid smiled and drew near.
'O sweetest!' she whispered softly. 'See! the goddess is leaning over me,
And smiling with eyes like yours! O Goddess! thy presence cures
The restful unrest of friends!'
And Cupid laughed in her eyes as he threw off the white disguise
And bent down to kiss her himself—but cuff! cuff! on the ears of the elf
From the goddess who sought her robe.
And the river flowed on through the wood, and the temple of Friendship stood
Like a dream of snow-white stone. But the minstrel returned alone
From his pilgrimage.

Friendship is Love (Rondeau)
Friendship is love, without a doubt
that feeling you can't live without,
a shelter in the fiercest storm,
the blanket that will keep you warm,
some tears, some laughs, a song, a shout,
two friends who help each other out,
for trust is what friendship's about,
a friend will never do you harm,
Friendship is love.
If your new life's a total rout,
and when you feel that you're a lout
when you might lose your smile, your charm,
a friend will always lift your arm.
Good friends spread their true love throughout,
Friendship is love.

Good Friendship
In friendship lies, life’s beauty prime –
A bond that stands the test of time,
And withstands every change of clime.
Good friendship makes life worth living;
Than taking, life is in giving –
The crux of friendship, worth telling!
Our earthly life would be a bore,
Without good friendship at its core:
That takes each person to the fore!
Though parents care for their children,
And relatives for kith and kin,
Yet, friends usher on earth, heaven!
Happy the ones, who have good friends!
Their worries in life, almost ends:
In need, good friend always attends.
And without friends, life could be sad,
And make all events, pretty bad,
And turn some persons, almost mad!
Good friends are rarely found in life,
And help you timely in your strife –
Some turning husband or your wife!
Nurture good friendship if you can;
Essential are friends good, man:
Those add spice to your earth’s life-span.

Friendship
Friendship
Friendship is love,
Without friendship love means nothing!
Without friendship love is empty…
Without friendship love is boring...!
Friendship means sharing…
People learn to share from friendship,
Share everything they have in life,
Friendship is like stars,
Even though we always see them together
Always mean to each other…
But,
Sometimes they argue!
Friendship is like flower,
Soft but strong!
Friendship is like sun,
Bright and beautiful!
Friendship is everything in life,
Life without friendship is like life without air…
Life without friendship is like eats without food
And
Life without friendship is like body without soul…
Friendship is wide!
Anybody can be our friend,
Our parents, our grandparents, our sister, our brother and even our school principal!
Friendship….
Is everything!

Farewell To Your Friendship
I don't need you,
Or your lame friends,
I have my own friends,
The more I have,
The more sad I get,
With all these friends some care for me as I care for them,
Farewell to your friendship,
You used me,
Stole my life,
Stole my money,
Stole everything I ever had,
Why don't you get a job and buy your own stuff and quit stealing it from me,
Your friendship is worthless for me to keep as a friend,
So farewell to you and your friends,
I have more friends where that came from,
The ones that don't steal from me,
They're my true friends who are always there for me,
You were never there for me from the start,
So farewell to you and your friendship,
Cause I don't need anymore sadness from you,
Farewell to your friendship.

Sonnet: A Lost Friendship
You were my friend then: now almost stranger!
Our friendship appeared once very glorious;
What happened meantime, gives me great anger;
Our friendship no longer remains serious.
Fool you were, to be misled by others,
Who drove a giant wedge ’midst our friendship;
Cut off is our friendship, which me bothers;
A nadir has come in our relationship.
What years of intimacy have been lost?
You’ve been foolish, very much on your part;
Our friendship today is just but a ghost;
Won’t your eyes see the true love in my heart?
Dear friend however, you can’t be my foe;
I hope that our friendship, blossoms once more!

Your A Great Friend
I never real knew
What friendship was
Until I met you
You’re my best friend
To be a real friend
You have to trust to be a great friend
It takes more than caring
To be a real friend
I never real knew
What friendship was
Until I met you
You’re my best friend
You are a true friend
That is really kind
And knows how to cheer me up when im down
Your funny pretty
My family like you
I never real knew
What friendship was
Until I met you
You’re my best friend
If I never meet you
I think that today
I don’t think I would of knew what friendship was
I never real knew
What friendship was
Until I met you
You’re my best friend
We like to chill with each other
We like to chill with each other everyday
We like to tell each other everything
That is what best friends do
I never real knew
What friendship was
Until I met you
You’re my best friend

Happy Friendship-Day,2009
Let friends in life be few but firm;
Let all those few be thick and great;
Let friendship good last for life-time,
And be a satisfying one!
Let friends be precious and worthwhile;
Let friendship grow and stay ev’r-green;
Let friends become true role-models,
And guide our life on earth nobly!
Let friends hold us spell-bound in life;
Let friends share joys and grief as well;
Let friendship’s sway make us better,
And give us moments to be proud!
Let friends be part of earthly lives;
Let friendship stay a boon, not bane;
Let friends be inseparable,
And be like angel guardians dear!
Let friendship fill the world with love,
And dispel gloom and solitude;
Let friends be more than siblings born,
And make our life on earth fruitful!
Let friendship glue a hearty bond;
Let friends bring godliness in life;
Let friendliness perfume the world,
And make our earthly lives worthwhile!
Let love turn foes to be like friends;
Let friends make earth a paradise;
Let friendliness rule hearts and minds,
And fix our gaze to God above!

What Makes A True Friend?
What are the qualities that a friend should
have – that which would make a true friend so true?
A friend is one whom you like to be with
while a true friend insists on being with you.
A friend likes you when you have so much in
common. True friends like you who for who you are.
True friends make you feel as though they are at
all times near, although they are very far.
A true friend is one whom you can always
talk to, even at night when it is late -
when loved ones are asleep, a true friend is
always there to hear what you have to say.
Friends like to share, but a true friend always
gives you – not what you want, but what you need.
The feelings you hide, as well as your thoughts,
and your dreams, a true friend can always read.
A friend may forgive you or they may not
forgive, for something wrong you've done to them.
A true friend forgives even when you don't
ask. True friends forgive - again and again.
Friends are close when you are close to them. A
true friend wants your friendship to be closer.
A true friend does what is best for you, and
hates that you would end up with the losers.
A true friend teaches you lessons to help
you grow – lessons that are hard and easy.
A true friend is always there - having a
true friend can never make you feel lonely.
Friends may sometimes make mistakes, but a true
friend is always careful not to hurt you.
A true friend is a guide and a teacher.
A true friend knows everything you go through.
The true friend I mention is our God,
who kept you company before you were born.
The friendship of God, if you truly keep
and cherish, you will never feel forlorn.
The true friend we all need is God (Allah) –
the One who guides and can teach us lessons,
the One who hears our calls and understands,
the One always near – in every season –
Allah, as a Friend, never judges us
by the way we look and how we appear.
Allah, as a Guide, if we ask Him for
guidance, He guides us and makes our paths clear.
Allah is with us – each day and each night –
He is always there when all are asleep.
Allah always listens when others don't.
He gives you comfort when He sees you weep.
Fortunate are those who have Allah as
a Friend. Friendship with God is friendship true.
May Allah bless me with His Friendship and
May Allah's Friendship be shared with you too.
Ameen.

True Frıendship
Your friends are your needs answered;
They are your field which you sow
With Love and harvest with thanksgiving
Friends provide drink and sustenance
When you suffer with hunger and thirst
When friends speak their minds you fear not;
Saying “No”, nor withhold saying “Yes”
When friends are silent;
Your heart need not cease listening to their heart
Without words, in friendship, all thoughts, all desires,
All expectations are born and shared, with joy unbound
Let their be no purpose in friendship save
The deepening of your spiritual connection
Always give the best of who you are and what you have to friends,
As it is for them to fill your needs, not just your emptiness
Seek not friends for hours to kill, rather for hours to live;
For within friendship there is laughter, mirth and pleasure
When parting from friends, grieve not;
For that which you love most in them may
Be clearer in their absence
Remember friendship as with love;
Seeks nothing save disclosure of its own mystery
“True friendship”
Is found in the smallest acts of love and kindness

All Friendships Do Not End Well
The number of friends you have in your life does seem all up to you
And that all friendships do not end well happens to be true
And often at the end of a friendship an enemy is made
And bitterness sets in when by your friend you've been betrayed,
Your friend for life the good and the hard times with you will share
Though friends for life are and have always been rare
Feel lucky if you have one good friend in the town
One who will stand by you when you are feeling down
You know who your friend is when of support you are in need
For a friend at such a time is a true friend indeed
The great gift of true friendship we ought to celebrate
For your true friend more than a friend to you is a soul mate
It is not an uncommon thing to hear one say
The one I thought was my friend my trust did betray.

A Friendship Is But A Flower
A friendship is but a flower
Growing out in Gods garden
Helping out the fellow man
Not knowing should they get a pardon
A friendship is but a flower
Waiting to bloom in the spring
Waiting with a helping hand or an ear
To help or listen to most any ol thing
A friendship is but a flower
That God lends to us for a while
To help us along our way
And give us a reason for a smile
A friendship is but a flower
Leaving impressions on our hearts
Never knowing when it might end
But, always happy to see it start
A friendship is but a flower
Sent with guidance from above
The friendship must be based on trust
But, like the flower, it's started with Gods love
Friendship is but a flower
Sent down for all of us to share
So pass on your bit of friendship
Show someone just how much you care
A friendship is but a flower
And this friendship I pass on to you
So please take my flower and friendship
So you can pass it on to others too

A Deed Of A Friend....
A friend in need is a friend in deed, it is said;
A friend capable of helping by deed is needed.
There are many lip service friends everywhere;
Sans requesting and talk a friend should know
What another friend needs to be done in work!
“If you do this I will do that” is not nice of a friend;
This is done in business friendship but not in life.
This kind of business attitude is not long to follow;
That kind of friendship is not for long to continue.
Friend means one should be ready for anything!
A real friend does everything out of love for another;
That kind of friend is the need of a good friend here.
That friend does all for his friend to come up soon
And there lies real friendship lasting forever anywhere!

A friend indeed!
I have a friend, a friend in word & a friend indeed.
A friend who loves me with all friends being & I love friend too.
My friend rejuvenates me
A friend of my youth,
A friend indeed!
I have a friend in word, my friend reminds me of my purpose in life
I can exhale with my friend by my side
My friend is good to me
A friend indeed!
When my friend is gone, I miss my friend already
But my friend has gone home because I am home for now
But the truth is our home is in our friendship.
I have a friend, a friend indeed!
My friend in word is my friend indeed and my friend in need.
Friendship is all we need & we have.
I have a friend a friend indeed!

To Sophronia.
Sophronia, all the World agree,
The Soul of Friendship dwells in Thee:
Let Envy other Gifts dispute,
Since here the Fury must be mute.
Without one vain, one venal View,
The Muse inscribes these Lines to you.
Tho' I thy Favour shall not share,
Thy Worth I'm destin'd to revere;
And in Sophronia must commend
The firm, disinterested Friend:
To Virtue I this Homage pay,
Rewarded, tho' you slight the Lay.
Those who thy Favour once obtain,
Need not sollicit thee again;
Nor ever at Neglect repine:
Their Wishes and their Cares are thine:
Nor at the Grave thy Friendship ends;
But to Posterity descends.
Hail, sacred Friendship! seldom found,
Tho' sought for all the World around:
Say, Blessing of the peaceful Cell!
How cam'st thou in a Court to dwell?

Happy Friendship Day,2011
Good friendship is important in earthly life
True friendship is a rare find, lasting a life-time
Friendship is supportive, wholesome and priceless
Friendship must grow but is difficult to keep.
Friendship affords joy, solace and distraction
Friendship gives a better meaning to life
Friendship may deliver what parents sometimes fail to
Friendship is valuable, useful and advantageous.
Friendship makes the world a better place to live
Friendship makes living worthwhile, loveable and liveable
Friendship creates the right environs for sharing
The basis of good friendship is selfless, dedicated love of a special kind.

The Gift Of Friendship
It's hard to find a friendship that is truly real
Sometimes it's hard to trust
Never give up on making new friends
Friends are like family, and family is a must.
A family is very personal
and to me friendship is too
So I take it slow when meeting new people
I have to feel that their friendship is true.
But if I am convinced they want nothing but friendship
I will except them into my heart
For in my heart they are truly safe
And nothing will break that friendship apart.
