uniformed Expression.
I mute the remote and watch the program in TV,
For the reasons known to them, you and me,
The hula-hula dancers from Hawaii shake the hips with wild wink,
The hip dancers from Middle East cover not their breasts,
The movements are swift and beautiful as the dancers,
from all around the globe. When the eyes are rotated,
from left to right to show the love, anger and fear,
the facial muscles are pulled, puffed and twisted,
to show the surprise, disgust and contempt,
the necks are moved in the same way as the other,
from Europe and Africa with their unique dance steps,
How is it possible that human have picked up,
The same method to express the emotions,
Even a silent movie tells us a story, visually.

Maui Movements
Native performers,
Proud of their rich heritage,
Help traditions live.
Young hula dancers,
Dressed in colorful attire,
Dance with hips and hands.
Gently swaying hips,
Combined with silent language
Of the dancer's hands,
Beckon us to watch
As history comes alive
In Maui movements.
Older performers
Translate every movement --
Help us understand.
Let's understand them
And LEARN, from Maui movements,
How history lives !

Rock-a-hula Baby
(words & music by fred wise - ben weisman - dolores fuller)
The way she moves her hips to her fingertips
I feel Im heaven bound
And when she starts to sway, Ive gotta say
She really move the grass around
Rock-a-hula baby
Rock-a-hula baby
Got a hula lulu from honolulu
That rock-a-hula baby of mine
Although I love to kiss my little hula miss
I never get the chance
I wanna hold her tight all through the night
But all she wants to do is dance
I bet that she could teach the palms along the beach
To sway when breezes blow
And birds up in the sky could learn to fly
By watchin how my baby can go

Hula Hands
Lovely hula hands, graceful as a bird in motion
Riding like the doves over the ocean, lovely hula hands
Kah Li ma na ni'ae
Lovely hula hands, telling of the rain in the valleys
And the swirling winds over Na' Pali, lovely hula hands
Kah Li ma na ni'ae
I can feel the soft caresses of your hula hands, your lovely hula hands
Every little move expresses, so I'll understand all the tender meanings
Of your hula hands, fingertips that say Aloha
Say to me again I love you, lovely hula hands
Kah Li ma na ni'ae
I can feel the soft caresses of your hula hands, your lovely hula hands
Every litte move expresses, so I'll understand all the tender meanings
Of your hula hands, fingertips that say Aloha
Say to me again I love you, lovely hula hands
Kah Li ma na ni'ae

That's a traditional Samoan dance. I was lucky that I was able to fly my cousins, who are professional dancers, up from Hawaii and they were able to be in the movie with me. We had a great time.

My Bar Dance
My Bar Dance
ha! ha! !
In my bar dance
Perpetual is romance
People from home and France
In dancer's eyes spirituality glance
ha! ha! !
It is an eternal dance
It's not a game of chance
You fall in love at first glance
Vast its dancing floor's expanse
ha! ha! !
In dance the divinity glitters
In dancers drink bowls no bitters
The dancers' lives without jitters
Their hearts are divine transmitters
ha! ha! !
Come and join my bar dance
This Christmas joyous trance

Burlesque
Burlesque
~
Sequins shimmer in the lights
While music builds a sensual rhythm
The move and sway of the dance
As the ladies begin to hypnotize
A celebration of the female form
In all of its beauty the eyes are held
Watching intent as the show unfolds
The smile and the look upon the stage
How the dancers enjoy their play
The little sway of the hips
As they turn and twist the audience
The strut in their stride tells
This is after all their night
One to which they knew belonged
To the evocative and sensual
To all that is beautiful

Let Us Dance!
The memory dances to the tune of the wind,
The energy elevates with hormonal scent,
Solo dancers start to dance in their dreams,
Climes change the temperature as the streams,
The souls have to follow the preset movements,
To the melody of musical notes enshrined,
Solo, Couple, Line, Square and circular dancers,
Express the desire in the strict rhythmic steps,
Dancing is fun and glamour to the tired mind,
As the cosmic dance is the pastime to the earth,
When it revolves on its axis, goes around the sun,
When the tiny moon revolves around it with no fun,
Stars, galaxies and even black holes on their toes,
Diligently follow the path of their own, away from foes,
When the trees synchronize to the force of the air,
When the dust swirl to the pressure of atmosphere,
When the drizzle follow the direction of the wind,
And the unborn dances in the fluid of the womb.

The Indian Dances
The Indian culture is most diverse,
So are the Indian dances to traverse;
There are many Indian Classical dances,
And so are the many regional Folk dances.
A physical and visual form is dance,
It appropriates the spectator to a trance;
The colourful attire enchants the audience,
And the different ornaments amuse their sense.
The Natya Sastra by Sage Bharata was propounded,
And the Indian Classical dance on a grammar founded;
Indian culture with four Vedas itself prides,
And with Natya Sastra known as the fifth Veda, it strides.
Dances were originally performed in a temple,
Mainly to entertain Gods and Godesses and people;
Accompanying were the drums, flute and other instruments,
To synchronize with the music and the dancers ‘ movements.
The Classical dances are spiritual in content,
The Folk dances are of joy and celebration intent;
Elements of Indian dances are Mudra and Abhinaya—
The dancer's interpretation of words set to music and laya.
Many dance forms depict the moods -Navarasas,
Which are the various emotions or nine rasas;
They are Hasya, Krodha, Bhibasta, Bhaya, Santha,
And Veeram, Karuna, Adbhuta and Shoka:
Which are Happiness, Anger, Disgust, Fear, Serenity,
And Courage, Compassion, Wonder, and Sorrow respectively.
Many are the reputed Indian dance styles,
So are the many dance forms of details.
The Indian dance forms, that are popular—
Bharathanatyam of Tamil Nadu: Manipuri of Manipur:
Garba of Gujarat: Kuchupudi of Andhra Pradesh:
Bhangra of Punjab: Kathak of Uttar Pradesh:
Gaudiya Nritya of West Bengal: Lavani of Maharashtra:
Kathakali and Mohini Attam of Kerala: Oddissi of Oddisha:
Indian dances play their parts in many realms of arts—
In Poetry, Architecture, Literature and Sculpture of sorts.
Dancers with their beautiful art give us a profound feeling,
Making them appealing and our hearts stealing!

Let The Show Begin
(ronnie scott/steve wolfe)
Producers for bonnie: david mackay, ronnie scott, steve wolfe
Im a woman
And here we are
Locked together
Living on this lonely star
But we can stay here
Like the mountains do
Like the leaves we tumble
But baby before we do
Before we do
Let the show begin
Let the orchestra play
Let the dancers in
And well dance the night away
Let the show begin
Get me lost in your kiss
If we dont remember anything
Well sure remember this
If we dont remember anything
Well sure remember this
Who am i, love
Who are you
Locked together
Wondering where were going to
An old man told me
How his life just flew
And the years went quickly
But baby before they do
Before they do
Let the show begin
Let the carnival start
Let the dancers in
Take your partners to your hearts
Let the show begin
Let the orchestra play
If we dont remember anything
We wont forget today
If we dont remember anything
We wont forget today
Ad libs...
Let the show begin
Get me lost in your kiss
If we dont remember anything
Well sure remember this
If we dont remember anything
Well sure remember this

SOUNDS & SIGHTS OF THE RIVERDANCE...[Observations From A Live Irish Step Dance Performance/Radio City Music Hall, New York]
Tap, Tap, Tap...
Shoe-point on wood
One lone Dancer
Striking the floor
With hyperbole...
While ignominiously
Glaring, left to right
Twenty Dancers
Being watched
By twenty more
Awaiting their key
Standing in position
Clad in dark solids
Burgandy and black
Orchestra anxious
Ready to commence
Turn a silent stage
Alive with fifes 'n strings
Hear the sound of Violins
Tight-string pulling
...Rosin!
Dancers juxtaposed
Spotlights frame
each glacing movement
Madonna's......in tights
Dark Angels in taps
As the orchestra leader
SHOUTS.... in soprano
ONE, TWO, THREE..FOUR
One, Two, Three...
one, two, three...AND....
Twenty more Dancers
Edge of the stage
While Irish reels join
The romp of ''Firedance''
And, twenty-five more
Dancers in backdrop
Under white lights
Confluenced, and stunning
Commanding the audience
Front and Center
Like silhouette figures
And marionettes
All synchronized...Yes...
And on single deaf cue
Break from the middle
Like a gaelic Red Sea
And twenty-five more
Dancers line...Synchronized...YES!
All in one line...
Front and Center
To stamping feet
To thunderclap
To violins...screaming!
To one-hundred and thirty
Feet on the floor...
To the beat of the rhythm
The rhythm of the dance
The Irish Step hard shoe
As sixty-five Dancers
All in synchronized step
The violins peak....YES!
As the Dancers stamp hard
To the beat of the Riverdance
The Sound is shrilling
As the Dancers come forward
Dancing edged at stagefront
Legs in full measure
Knees over chins
Legs lifting higher
In measure and balance
To the kicked-up impact
Of the titillating music
'Til the grande-leader calls
Time to do justice
Render sweet climax
To this sterling performance
And the Dancers take flight
With utopic perfection
And land with a clamor
Of one deafening strike
Of shoes to the floor......
.................................. ......
A moments dead still
The Dancers stand silent
No movement, feet crossed
.....................................A N D
The Audience stands LOUD...
The applause just as deafening
As the applauded were clamorous
And sustains for minutes
After the very last Dancer
Walks of the stage....
'''The Riverdance'''.......
AND, THERE IS NOTHING LIKE IT!
Dedicated to my daughter, Lauren Marie Elizabeth who in 2003,
at age 9, placed 3rd in a Regional Irish Feis Competition, in N.Y.C.

The Numbers
i think i am beginning to know the numbers
their meanings
inside the big dome the dancers are practicing
the steps are numbered
and the whole day the leader keeps the count
one two three four
five six
seven eight nine ten
eight seven six five
four three
two one
four three two one
five six seven eight
eight seven six five four three
two one
the whole day for the whole week for the whole month
these numbers are counted like
one two three four
five six
seven eight nine ten
eight seven six five
four three
two one
four three two one
five six seven eight
eight seven six five four three
two one
i am standing by the door
looking at the dancers jump to the count of
six five four three
two one
they run and stop and run again
and stamp on the left and on the right
and point and slash
and jump and
kick and sway and
stand and kneel
and kick and slash
eight seven six five
four three two one
four three
four three two one
numbers indeed
are numbing
they make us numb
they are making us dumb
five four three two one.

The Talent Show
Hundreds of people wait in the queue.
All eager to show off what they can do.
At today's talent show,
They hope for a 'yes', but may get a 'no.'
The panel of judges, they want to wow.
Their families, they want to make proud.
The singers range from bad to good.
Some can't sing, but someone told them they could!
A few singers are totally amazing,
And they lap up the judge's praising.
Represented, are all types of dance.
Round the stage, the dancers prance.
Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Folk and Street.
To the music, the dancers move their feet.
Stand-up comedians go through their paces,
Hoping to put a smile on the judge's faces.
A martial arts duo show off various kicks.
There's many magicians doing magic tricks.
A ventriloquist takes the stage with his furry friend:
To his friend's performance, a hand he lends!
The contortionist can do many a weird pose,
Like getting her toes to touch her nose!
There's dogs who can dance or sing,
Or, indeed, try their hand at anything!
Some people have turned up, just for a bet,
And some of the acts, the judges just don't get.
It's been a long day, but it's been fun,
And soon the judge's shortlist is done.
All of the acts have now been put to the test.
Now it's the moment to decide who is best.

Tropicana
Dancers for the 'Tropicana' in Cuba,
Training with outfits to win the very hard way!
But the muse of their nakedness is what they share to the public,
And without any othere alternative to move forward.
Tropicana, Tropicana!
Dancers to entertaqin the public;
But they have to go through the hard way! !
And it is all about this dance in Cuba.

02-22-10****It Wasn't About Singing and Dancing
We wanted to watch
Them sing and dance
Yet no one would hire them
Out of SF's Chinatown
So that's where we went
To watch them
Sing and dance
In their nightclubs
We locals went
Hollywood stars
Of the 1940s and 50s
Would be there too
Then the Chinese
Singers and dancers
Were recruited by Gene Kelly
For the movie Flower Drum Song
First time they used
Real Asians
Rather than
Whites in makeup
One movie and then Hollywood
Was done with them
It was back to Asians
Played by whites in makeup
The Chinese/Ameriocans
Had to go back to Chinatown
Where we went
To watch them sing and dance

She'd Love To Live In Africa
She'd love to live in Africa in the land of the Maasai
And with the tribal people dance under the moonlit sky
The rhythmic drummer beats his drum and the dancers rock and sway
She'd love to live in Africa twelve thousand miles away.
The hungry male lions cough and roar in the African night
And the sounds of galloping hooves and zebras whinnying in fright
And the elephants are trumpeting and the the wild hyaenas
scream
And to live in distant Africa has always been her dream.
She's never been to Africa but she can visualize
The fish eagles are circling o'er the lake she hear their cries
And a flock of beautiful flamingos of ten thousands birds or more
Are feeding in the shallows just in from the lake shore.
All documentaries on Africa she watches on T.V.
And she'd love to live in that great Land amongst the wild and free
But time is running out on her she now is sixty two
And her dream of life in Africa for her may not come true.
Her brain urge her to walk and jog but her legs will not obey
And she won't be going to Africa twelve thousand miles away
A long time paraplegic she sits in her wheel chair
And she dreams of distant Africa 'doesn't life seem so unfair'.

Oysters & Pearls
By: jimmy buffett, mac mcanally
Lindbergh left long island in 1927
He thumbed his nose at gravity
And climbed into the heavens.
When he returned to earth that night
Everything had changed
For the pilot and the planet
Everything was rearranged
Were a pretty mixed up bunch
Of crazy human beings
Its written on our rocketships
And in early cave wall scenes
How does it happen?
How do we know?
Who sits and watches?
Who does the show?
Some people love to lead
Some refuse to dance
Some people play it safely
Others take a chance
Still, its all a mystery
This place we call the world
Where most live as oysters
While some become pearls
Now elvis was the only man
From north east mississippi
Who could shake his hips
And still be loved by
Rednecks, cops and hippies
Its something more than dna
That tells us who we are
Its method and magic
We are of the stars
Some never fade away
Some crash and burn
Some make the world go round
Others watch it turn
Still, its all a mystery,
This place we call the world
Most are fine as oysters
While some become pearls

Everybody Is Doing It
In Hawaii they Hula
They Tango in Argentina
They Reggae in Jamaica
And they Rumba down in Cuba,
In Trinidad and Tobago
They do the Calypso
And in Spain the Spanish
They really do Flamenco.
In the Punjab they Bhangra
How they dance Kathak in India
Over in Guatemala
They dance the sweet Marimba,
Even foxes dance a lot
They invented the Fox Trot,
In Australia it's true
They dance to the Didgeridoo.
In Kenya they Benga
They Highlife in Ghana
They dance Ballet all over
And Rai dance in Algeria,
They Jali in Mali
In Brazil they Samba
And the girls do Belly Dancing
In the northern parts of Africa.
Everybody does the Disco
From Baghdad to San Francisco
Many folk with razzamataz
Cannot help dancing to Jazz,
They do the Jig in Ireland
And it is really true
They still Morris dance in England
When they can find time to."

Thought I Couldnt Dance
Stand back, and give me room
And listen to that beat
I got the music in my soul
And the rhythm in my feet
When I hear the music,
You wont catch me standing still
And I wont miss a beat
I never have and I never will
And you thought I couldnt dance
And you thought I couldnt dance
I can dance to anything
That any band can play
Ive got old-fashioned values
But Im pretty up to date
And I know all the latest hits
On the radio
You dont have to join me
Stand back and watch my show
And you thought I couldnt dance
And you thought I couldnt dance
Thought I couldnt dance
Hey, watch me prance
Lets make romance
Thought I couldnt dance
You gotta take a chance
If youre gonna learn to dance
And you thought I couldnt dance
And you thought I couldnt dance
Theres a lot of closet dancers
Just dyin to come out
They dance alone inside their rooms
With the music way up loud
And I know you thought I couldnt dance
But I guess I sure fooled you
It just goes to show you never know
Whos wearing dancin shoes
And you thought I couldnt dance
Im full of surprises
And you thought I couldnt dance
Its too late now
I cant slow down...cant slow down
Oh, feel the heat
From these dancin feet... cant slow down
And you thought I couldnt dance
And you thought I couldnt dance
Repeat...
