The Deity
Her world collapsed all too sudden.
The ground she stood wobbled below.
Her dreams crashed down like pack of cards
Death robbed the man, she wed days before
No more a bride in dazzling silk.
Never shall she be bedecked-
In brocades, jewels or gems.
Never her hand, be held in love.
No more shall she be the former Rajput bride
Now a widow shunned and abhorred by men
With tonsured head, so ugly to view
Cursed and doomed in the eyes of all.
A stigma, scorned and borne in shame
A defenseless bird with clipped wings,
Destined to languish within a cage
Never shall she see again the outer world.
Fore warned to keep out even from the kindred folk.
Alas! She preferred Death to Life
Gave her consent, free of pressure,
To immolate herself in blazing fire!
Be another Sita to walk through fire
Blank she stared at the crowd in front,
Gathered to witness an awful scene
They were at her bridal feast.
They partook merrily of the gala feast.
With goblets held in raised hands,
They had wished her all bliss in life.
The same crowd remained in hushed lull,
With suspense pounding their hearts quicker,
Eager to see the drama - Act by Act,
Having watched the prelude to that tragic tale.
The High Priest performed his trite rites,
With incantations breaking the silence still.
The air around smelt of incense burnt.
And curls of smoke shot up to the sky
Like a statue carved from rock
Dumb she remained, she hardly stirred
Her legs were bound to a log of wood
Her hands, held tight behind her back
Before she knew what was next,
They pushed her down to the funeral pyre.
The flames of fire leaped above
And sucked her out with greedy tongues

The crowd disbursed with slogans loud
They rejoiced over a new Deity made!

Self immolation
At the age of fifteen she entered a married Life
Soon to prove capable and become responsible wife
Husband passed away at an early age
She became widow and it became difficult to manage
”She must be burnt along with husband” shouted the crowd
They may consider it as honor and feel so proud
We may not go into whether it was bad or good
It was to matter for her life and livelihood
“She was to be burnt “was the decision
No one could change it for any reason
people started to flock to her old house
Sky was filled with slogans as passion rose
It was practice of self immolation called “SATI”
Her face was to shine with more beauty
Head was to be decorated with nice flowers
Red big dot on forehead with blessings to shower
“Long live mother, long live mother” filled the air with slogans
Heavy music of drum beats along with large crowd of women
It was free flow of human beings to witness the show
Great medieval saga to be offered as the anxieties grow
It is banned long ago but still continues to be performed
Authorities remain in dark and are never informed
May be they turn show soft corner for moment
Religious fervor coupled with custom was the event
Day was fixed for immolation and she was prepared
Religious importance of it was repeated and compared
She was to be remembered for her great sacrifice
“You may be known as living Goddess” was the promise
Process ion was out and she was almost near the dais
Her face was covered with flowers and hardly was heard her voice
Sky too remained very calm as Sun departed quietly
Everybody remained calm and observed it minutely
It was seen from distance that she did not favor or go for
It was not her ideas or witnessed by anybody this before
Woman Falk was to be burnt with departed soul
There was no question of smelling any rat or foul
As funeral pyre was to be lit with fire, more chanting begun
She was to be placed on pyre with dead body of husband
As soon as she neared the placed she was virtually pushed
As fire began spreading, crowd began soaring and rushed
She was cosigned to flames as sky turned red with flames
Who was take responsibility and share the blames?
It was holy event at that given time and stood the test
Time now has made full circle and it is not considered as best
* SATI is performing of self immolation after husband’s death

Hold On
I was doomed riding on top a black horse.
Whatever prize there was I could only observe where the troubles starts.
Where does it end?
I cannot be cured...mmm...but if...
I know life would be different if I held on, held on.
I know I could be something if I held on.
Gave her life away. Put it in my pocket when it should've been framed.
Oh lost it's shine. Gotta' get this out of my head, out of my head.
How could it end...end like this?
I could've been...
I know life would be different had I held on, held on.
I know I could've been something had I held on, held on.
I know I could be something if I held on, held on.
I know life would be different if I held on, held on.
Held on, held on, if I held on, held on, if I held on, held on, if I held on.

Flightless Bird
My world is caged in,
I can not fly away,
I can not soar in the clouds,
With the wind and the angels.
I am a flightless bird with clipped wings.
I sit here day in and day out,
I watch so many people coming in and going out,
They stay here so happy so proud,
And they leave again without any care in the world.
I am a flightless bird with clipped wings.
I remember each face,
I remember them all saying hi waiting for a reply of hello,
They don’t understand how it feels,
They don’t understand what it’s like.
To be a flightless bird with clipped wings.
Wings tucked and head held high I sit here,
I wear a smile on my face and I keep myself beautiful and happy,
But inside all I can see are the bars that surround me,
I can’t get past them I can only sit.
I am a flightless bird with clipped wings.
My world is a room full of people myself the center of attention,
Although I should not complain for this is my life,
And I make them smile I make the children laugh and look in my eyes,
And sometimes they look into my eyes and see my world through my eyes.
They know I am a flightless bird with clipped wings.
They’ll stand and watch me as I walk around in my cage,
They’ll be there with me and try to understand.
Then they’ll have to leave and they’ll look over their shoulders.,
And they look into my eyes one last time,
Before they fly away into the world to bring back stories for the flightless bird with clipped wings,
They are my connection to the world,
They show me what they see through their eyes,
They show me wonders and beauties of a world I’ve never seen,
They are my window to the outside,
In their mind I can be a flightless bird in a world of wonder and of flight.
I am only a small bird in a cage that sits in a hotel,
Sits and watches as the world around me fly’s by,
I wait for the occasional stranger who looks into my eyes with knowing,
Maybe a person who is like me like a flightless bird in a cage,
They are my wings, the wings of a flightless bird who’s wings are clipped.
I sit in my own world and watch as it all moves by,
Day after day I watch and I say what is expected of me,
I sit in my world and I go on my own steady journey,
A journey in which I am a silent observer,
A flightless bird with clipped wings in a world of ever changing skies.

Fire Man
It was shortly after the Second War,
The rubble lay in heaps,
The bombs no longer dropped,
But where they had was bombed for keeps!
The lads ran wild in the undergrowth
That had been a stately home,
And gangs laid claim to the sacred turf
That they liked to call their own.
The gang of Harriman Somers claimed
An isolated patch,
Complete with an air raid shelter with
A concrete roof to match,
From up there, high on the roof they spied
The whole of the country wide,
To warn of approaching rival gangs
They posted guards outside.
When Raymond Kirk came wandering
On home through the bridle track,
The 'Razors' saw their chance to vent
Their anger on a 'Drak',
They seized him there, and bound him up,
And threw him on the pile
Of dry, and flammable tinder wood
They'd saved up for a while.
But there beside the shelter wall,
An unexploded bomb,
Was lying on its side, they'd claimed it,
Lying on its own.
When Harriman lit the tinder wood
And Raymond screamed in turn,
The 'Razors' laughed and taunted him,
They said: 'You're gonna burn! '
The fire spread to the shelter and
That one incendiary
Exploded, showering phosphorus
Across from fire to tree,
The 'Razors' fled in their burning clothes,
They left young Kirk to his cries,
He spent a year in the hospital
With flames behind his eyes.
At home he sat in a wheelchair with
A hundred grafts of skin,
His hands were runny like plasticene
His legs were scarred and thin,
For five long years he waited there,
He learned to walk, and then
He took to strolling on through the woods
To ease his mind of pain.
The summer of '51 was hot,
The country was in drought,
Flames were seen in the woods whenever
Kirk came wandering out,
The 'Razor' gang were now young men,
With girlfriends, some with wives,
They'd all forgotten the burning, but
That fire would rule their lives.
A car went up in a blaze one night,
A 'Razor' member's pride,
And only once they had put it out
Did they find the corpse inside.
It was Dicky Johns, (who had found the bomb) ,
They had to go by his teeth,
His fellow 'Razors' crossed themselves,
It was - 'Rather him than me! '
Then Andy Craig, his terraced house
Went up before the dawn,
The flames were seen three streets away,
They found him on the lawn.
He'd fallen out of the window, all
Ablaze, like a glowing torch,
His wife's remains, when they smashed the door
Fell out on the tiled porch.
And through the crowd, at every fire
One face was seen to glide,
For Raymond Kirk turned up to grin
At the bodies, burned inside,
And then, while he was walking home
He'd touch a hedge or brush,
And a flame would spurt from his fingertips
To ignite a burning bush.
At Harriman Somers' wedding, Kirk
Watched moodily, the bride,
He waited until they were good and drunk
Then forced his way inside,
She looked so fine in her wedding dress,
All virgin white, and lace,
He'd wait 'til Harriman turned his back
And then he'd seek her face!
He asked her to dance, so radiant,
She smiled at his crippled hands,
She wanted to be so kind to him,
Was this one of Harriman's friends?
When Somers saw who had twirled her round
To the music, he went pale!
He held his breath, but the dance of death
Would end his fairytale.
Kirk had stopped, he held the dancer's
Hands above her head,
He stood quite still, but held her 'til
Her soul was filled with dread,
But then he called out loud and clear,
'Remember? It's my turn!
You told me once, now I'm telling you,
Your bride is gonna burn! '
The bride then suddenly opened up
Her mouth, and gave a roar,
As flames burst out from her throat
And burned her dress, and singed her hair.
Then Kirk stood back as she swiftly turned
To a torch of instant flame,
While Somers screamed to his burning love,
And called out Raymond's name!
'Fire Man! The Fire Man! It's him,
Just bring him down! '
The crowd seized hold of him by his hair
And dragged him to the ground,
They threw him into the garden pool
And held his body down,
Though a flame flared under the water still
'Til Raymond Kirk had drowned.

The Crowd Roared
The crowd roared, the lion roared, another christian faced death,
And one was as hungry as the other for another's final breath.
No tears were shed as he lay dead, no thought, no regret, no sob.
And the slaves and the lion keeper went back to do their job.
The stake was set, the fire burned, the witch screamed for her god
And the crowd of flickering faces cursed the path she trod.
But when night covered their sight they huddled round their hob
And were glad it hadn't been them who'd had to do the job.
The blade fell, the head rolled and madame murder committed,
And the crowd roared while another madame sat and knitted.
But the noise went dead when its terror bred a terror for the mob,
And none cheered too loud after that when madame did her job.
No lion roared, no fire burned, no blade flashed in the sun
But when the crowd breathed in the gas their death was as one.
Their flesh was mean when buried unseen 'neath a dark and rocky knob.
And at last a tear was shed when executioners did their job.
In court they sat their faces stone, their eyes had never known a sob
And one by one they stood and said: 'I was only doing my job.'
But the crowd saw through their law and hissed and spat and sputtered
When one person used those words another person suffered.
It's dawn again, that time again, the sun has made the day
And see again that fatal sight of wood and rope and clay.
The crowd sighed but never cried as the trapdoor life did rob
And the executioner went away well pleased with his job.

The Last Shuttee
Not many years ago a King died in one of the Rajpoot States.
His wives, disregarding the orders of the English against Suttee,
would have broken out of the palace had not the gates been barred.
But one of them, disguised as the King's favourite dancing-girl,
passed through the line of guards and reached the pyre. There,
her courage failing, she prayed her cousin, a baron of the court,
to kill her. This he did, not knowing who she was.
Udai Chand lay sick to death
In his hold by Gungra hill.
All night we heard the death-gongs ring
For the soul of the dying Rajpoot King,
All night beat up from the women's wing
A cry that we could not still.
All night the barons came and went,
The lords of the outer guard:
All night the cressets glimmered pale
On Ulwar sabre and Tonk jezail,
Mewar headstall and Marwar mail,
That clinked in the palace yard.
In the Golden room on the palace roof
All night he fought for air:
And there was sobbing behind the screen,
Rustle and whisper of women unseen,
And the hungry eyes of the Boondi Queen
On the death she might not share.
He passed at dawn -- the death-fire leaped
From ridge to river-head,
From the Malwa plains to the Abu scars:
And wail upon wail went up to the stars
Behind the grim zenana-bars,
When they knew that the King was dead.
The dumb priest knelt to tie his mouth
And robe him for the pyre.
The Boondi Queen beneath us cried:
"See, now, that we die as our mothers died
In the bridal-bed by our master's side!
Out, women! -- to the fire!"
We drove the great gates home apace:
White hands were on the sill:
But ere the rush of the unseen feet
Had reached the turn to the open street,
The bars shot down, the guard-drum beat --
We held the dovecot still.
A face looked down in the gathering day,
And laughing spoke from the wall:
"Oh]/e, they mourn here: let me by --
Azizun, the Lucknow nautch-girl, I!
When the house is rotten, the rats must fly,
And I seek another thrall.
"For I ruled the King as ne'er did Queen, --
To-night the Queens rule me!
Guard them safely, but let me go,
Or ever they pay the debt they owe
In scourge and torture!" She leaped below,
And the grim guard watched her flee.
They knew that the King had spent his soul
On a North-bred dancing-girl:
That he prayed to a flat-nosed Lucknow god,
And kissed the ground where her feet had trod,
And doomed to death at her drunken nod,
And swore by her lightest curl.
We bore the King to his fathers' place,
Where the tombs of the Sun-born stand:
Where the gray apes swing, and the peacocks preen
On fretted pillar and jewelled screen,
And the wild boar couch in the house of the Queen
On the drift of the desert sand.
The herald read his titles forth,
We set the logs aglow:
"Friend of the English, free from fear,
Baron of Luni to Jeysulmeer,
Lord of the Desert of Bikaneer,
King of the Jungle, -- go!"
All night the red flame stabbed the sky
With wavering wind-tossed spears:
And out of a shattered temple crept
A woman who veiled her head and wept,
And called on the King -- but the great King slept,
And turned not for her tears.
Small thought had he to mark the strife --
Cold fear with hot desire --
When thrice she leaped from the leaping flame,
And thrice she beat her breast for shame,
And thrice like a wounded dove she came
And moaned about the fire.
One watched, a bow-shot from the blaze,
The silent streets between,
Who had stood by the King in sport and fray,
To blade in ambush or boar at bay,
And he was a baron old and gray,
And kin to the Boondi Queen.
He said: "O shameless, put aside
The veil upon thy brow!
Who held the King and all his land
To the wanton will of a harlot's hand!
Will the white ash rise from the blistered brand?
Stoop down, and call him now!"
Then she: "By the faith of my tarnished soul,
All things I did not well,
I had hoped to clear ere the fire died,
And lay me down by my master's side
To rule in Heaven his only bride,
While the others howl in Hell.
"But I have felt the fire's breath,
And hard it is to die!
Yet if I may pray a Rajpoot lord
To sully the steel of a Thakur's sword
With base-born blood of a trade abhorred," --
And the Thakur answered, "Ay."
He drew and struck: the straight blade drank
The life beneath the breast.
"I had looked for the Queen to face the flame,
But the harlot dies for the Rajpoot dame --
Sister of mine, pass, free from shame,
Pass with thy King to rest!"
The black log crashed above the white:
The little flames and lean,
Red as slaughter and blue as steel,
That whistled and fluttered from head to heel,
Leaped up anew, for they found their meal
On the heart of -- the Boondi Queen!

A Moments Rush
Out of a crowd - that bed of thorns
You rose and shone as a rose adorns and
Scents the wind for just a moments rush
And in that time our eyes were brushed
By silver hands that held a single strand
Of soul pulled hard across
The rhythms of our stroll
As we tripped upon our glancing smiles
Something true and deeper yearned
Something made us stop and turn
Our eyes held words that dare not weep
Yet when they met words were leaked
In rhymes, in songs, in throngs of speech
And then it stopped; in a moments rush
Like strangers touching on a crowded bus
Out of a crowd you shone
Back into a crowd you've gone
And I, alas, walk on.

Held Up With Just A Stick
Held up with just a stick.
Held up with just a stick.
Held up with just a stick.
Held up with just a stick.
Held up with just a stick,
It seems...
Held up with just a stick,
One's head...
Held up with just a stick,
Their arms and their legs...
Needing to be fed.
And...
Held up with just a stick,
One's pride...
Held up with just a stick,
Two eyes and two ears...
Living poverty so near,
To...
Famish it is clear.
And...
Held up with just a stick,
Hunger.
Held up with just a stick,
Life!
Held up with just a stick,
Blight!
And those who fight death in their sight.
Held up with just a stick,
Life!
Held up with just a stick,
Pride!
Held up with just a stick,
Blight!
And those who fight death in their sight.
Held up with just a stick,
And...
There's no benefit to it.
Held up with just a stick,
Life!
Held up with just a stick,
Pride!
Held up with just a stick,
Blight!
And living this is NOT a gift.
Held up with just a stick,
And...
There's no benefit to it.
Held up with just a stick.
Held up with just a stick.
Held up with just a stick.
Held up with just a stick.

Heart Of Stone
A broken wing, and a broken bone
Of a bird, that met a stone
Lied helpless And was bit despair
Looked above If god was there.
Short of food And short of breath
Was silently waiting For his death
Asked his wings If they could fly.
Yes they said why don't you try
He gathered his strength and wiped his tears.
And soon he stood Without his fears
His eyes stared at the Dark blue sky
But just then when he was about to fly
they grabbed his neck they grabbed it hard
with all his strength he could move a yard
and yes those hands did hurt his bone
he had met a heart of stone
some ugly hands and a beautiful bird.
He cried for help But no one heard.
His wings were flawed And his muscles were stiff.
He begged them to throw him off a cliff
oh dumb bird, don't you get,
look at you, it's a stone you met.
To this, the half dead bird replied
So what, if I die
Just for once I ll meet the air.
And also see if god was there.
Stories of wisdom, that were once told
But now this world had been so cold.
He wished if those blind eyes could see.
The bird was dead though his soul was free.

Sons Faith, Mothers Pride And Pain
She stood looking down into the empty
Ground where her son would find his resting place.
Recalling her pride and joy, as he grew up
From a baby boy.
How he dreamt of things to come
As he played out in the sun
How he would walk with his head held high
And how she stood by his side.
He would always talk of how
he was destined to help others
And how his life would change
For every step had been pre-arranged.
He talked of things to come
And how it would be done.
He would say: there are many of us
Destined for greatness
but in different kinds of ways.
We just have to thank GOD and
get down on our knees and pray.
Many times I would ask: son! Why do you talk so!
And he would reply: many things we do not know.
But everything will be revealed in its
Proper time and place, and we will be blessed
By the LORDS holy grace.
The changes will not be world wide, and will
Be done a little at a time.
The same as GOD made everything in six days
And on the seventh he rested
So will our faith be tested.
You had always said that there are three things
In life. HOPE, FAITH, AND LOVE.
And one cannot exist without the other two
This was taught to me by you.
You had shown me the power and strength
In HOPE, FAITH, AND LOVE
By your belief in GOD above.
You have made me who I am today
And I thank GOD every day.
Some may see the glass as half full
And some may see it as half empty
I see it as a life of plenty.
You was put here as my mother to teach.
And I was put here as your son to learn.
And in my mind your lessons did burn.
And when it’s time for me to go
In your heart you will know
That I was destined to roam these skies
And to touch the heart of man
In every way that I can.
She recalled the words that he had said to her.
Mother! Why do you worry so?
You have instilled in me FAITH, HOPE, AND LOVE
In my heart- and in CHRIST I’ve become a big part.
As they brought the casket to his final resting place
Everyone stood in amazement and awe
To what they had just saw.
she pulled back her shoulders and with
A smile on her face, she nodded to the priest
To give the last rites.
She stood with pride as they lowered the casket
Into the ground.
She stood with pride without making a sound.
She knew he was where he was destined to be
As the beautiful spirit flying free.
Everyone felt a chill, and they all looked around.
For they all knew “ he was heaven bound”.

Down By The Riverside
I took my baby out and bought her a ring
Man, we planned a wedding come spring
Staring right into the eyes of my dreams
Hand in hand, down on one knee
Chorus
Down by the riverside
Down by the riverside
Told me she would be my bride
Down by the riverside
She said yes as I held her tight
We made love in the broad daylight
Now I know why the old folks say
Get too close and youll get swept away
Chorus
Spring came and turned by babys head around
Rains fell and now I feel like I might drown
Under the weight of this fools crown
Theres a tree down by the riverside
Once it held its head up high
We carved our vows deep in its side
Now faithless love makes that willow cry
Chorus
Her love turned out to be a lie

Walk Through Fire
(howe/thomas)
I used to see those red tail lights, heading for another town
And wish that I was on my way
Looking back on these summer nights, wasting time, fooling round
And there was nothing here to make me stay
But that night I met you, the night you came through made me realise
Theres no way I can leave, you made me believe
And now when I look in your eyes
Chorus:
I could walk through fire, I can feel it burning
And I could walk through fire, (to get) right back to you
And as the flames get higher, you know Ill get stronger
Baby I could walk through fire
Its crazy how these things work out, I used to think I had no chance
And I somehow thought youd slip away
You pulled me through the fear and doubt, gave me all Im looking for
Everything I needed to stay
How could something so good, something so simple, get serious
How could someone so right come into my life, and now I just want you to
Know
Chorus:
I could walk through fire, I can feel it burning
And I could walk through fire, (to get) right back to you
And as the flames get higher, you know Ill get stronger
Baby I could walk through fire
And I would go anywhere, I would do anything, I do what you want me to
You know that I would, I want you to know this, whenever you need me
Ooh wherever you are, no matter how far, you know Ill be coming for you
Chorus:
I could walk through fire, I can feel it burning
And I could walk through fire, (to get) right back to you
And as the flames get higher, you know Ill get stronger
Baby I could walk through fire
Baby I could walk through fire, right back to you
And I could walk through fire, and I could walk through fire
And I could walk through fire, right back to you, yeah

Flying
[disputed lyrics in brackets]
Have you ever had the time to see, me and you could change to be
Take a dream away with you live it now and you will see
Found myself on an open road [got no hand] to show the way
Upped and started walking on to a land seemed so far away
After so long felt I was damned then I reached some gates and held a hand
But came to the point of sing and say, laughing people led me in to stay
Their happiness [held me, made me ] strong. I felt this is where I belong
I dont want another day just wanna laugh live sing and say
Its so strange I feel this way, its so real, its happening today,
Stop still something burns my body falls I begin to turn
(instrumental verse)
Flying drifting falling down, I found myself beneath the ground,
In a place thats strange to me, the earth is black and theres not a tree
Well its so dark theres not a sound just the feeling of wanting to be found
I must make haste to be gone, in this place I do not belong
I thought I tried to move a foot, I just remained where I stood,
And in the distance I heard aloud the shrill of blank deathly sound
I tried, I tried, I tried to run, but every move I was where I begun,
Its too late, shadows over me blind my eyes I cannot see
All my strength all my love, someone help me please above,
Death will surely take me down, Ill be doomed to live beneath the ground
(instrumental)
[see your two, see your one,] see your tomb, see you run, you fool, you fool your life has just begun
Im here to taunt and torment you
I can make you do what I want you to
Black it out and drag you down, all kinds of evil wear a crown
Chase you rape you feast upon your hurt, lay your body in the dirt
If I were a fool Id believe its true but I have no fear of what you can do
See Im free I can be just anyone that I want to be
Leave me now get out of my way
(instrumental)
[see your two, see your one] see your tomb, see your rock, who are you fooling lifes just begun
Here to taunt, to torment you
I can make you do what I want you to,
Knock it out drag you down, all kinds of people were aware of it now?
Chase you rape you feast upon your hurt, lay your body in the dirt
If I were a fool Id believe its true but I have no fear of what you can do
See Im free so leave me alone I wanna go my way and be alone
Get out of my sight, get out of my way
(more instrumental)
Im not through, and Im on the run, youre the fool my lifes not been done
Ill taunt you and Ill torment you
(instrumental)
Have this way with a dream never leave me so it seems
Life by night, life by day, the tale they tell will always stay
Walk the earth, walk the sky, dont let all this time go by
Hang on fast, dont let go or someone else will never know
Ride a road along with me chase a dream we all can see
Dont let bad, just see good its all that just what you should
No truth will ever come along shine so bright in your eyes
No wide wonder will do that for you, just lock it fast, do what you got to do
Shout it loud, shout out loud just live how you want to be
Show yourself show yourself, live how you got to be
(more instrumental, followed by a verse from rudyard kiplings gunga din taped backwards: though Ive belted you and flayed you, by the living God that made you, youre a bette
Than I am, gunga din.
And then, in ultra super-slo-mo, yes we know its all be done before before before before before before)

The Hueless Love
Unto that love must we through fire attain,
Which those two held as breath of common air;
The hands of whom were given in bond elsewhere;
Whom Honour was untroubled to restrain.
Midway the road of our life's term they met,
And one another knew without surprise;
Nor cared that beauty stood in mutual eyes;
Nor at their tardy meeting nursed regret.
To them it was revealed how they had found
The kindred nature and the needed mind;
The mate by long conspiracy designed;
The flower to plant in sanctuary ground.
Avowed in vigilant solicitude
For either, what most lived within each breast
They let be seen: yet every human test
Demanding righteousness approved them good.
She leaned on a strong arm, and little feared
Abandonment to help if heaved or sank
Her heart at intervals while Love looked blank,
Life rosier were she but less revered.
An arm that never shook did not obscure
Her woman's intuition of the bliss -
Their tempter's moment o'er the black abyss,
Across the narrow plank--he could abjure.
Then came a day that clipped for him the thread,
And their first touch of lips, as he lay cold,
Was all of earthly in their love untold,
Beyond all earthly known to them who wed.
So has there come the gust at South-west flung
By sudden volt on eves of freezing mist,
When sister snowflake sister snowdrop kissed,
And one passed out, and one the bell-head hung.

The Rose
In my hand I held the rose
As I would a woman dear,
Within my fingers I held it tight
As I wished it would not disappear.
From the touch, sight and beauty that I knew,
When the kiss of beauty, once had blew.
I held the rose as I would a love
As I had held in memory and thought,
And then the rose I could not let go
For the same as a lover, she became my soul.
The stem became the body and the petals became the skin,
Then I held her lightly, within the wind.
The rose held me, as I had held her
The two of us had become one
Then the act of God had prevailed that day
For he commanded the wind to take the rose away.
And towards the heavens She had flew,
As though to join the love that I once had knew.
In my hand there laid a thorn
Though to remind me of the sting of death,
So upon the Earth, I then laid the thorn
So love of life could again be reborn.
I buried the thorn as you would a dream,
Knowing never again, will it be seen.

Freedom As A Wife
Can i be with you and not loose me?
If you had my heart, would i still be free?
Or would i live in bondage, bound to you?
Could all see me, would i shine through?
Been in a cage with no bars before
I was his prisoner, but not in war
My wings were clipped, i could not fly
Held captive for years, could only cry
Bound to him through fear and shame
I was his puppet, and it was his game
Robbed me of so many years
Scars on my heart, my souvenirs
So please if you want me in your life
Let me have freedom as your wife
Freedom to let me be me
This freedom i need, we have to agree!
