My bed is swimming with tears,
The not seeing you down these lonely years
Of heartbreak and multiplying fears;

A disappointing substitute.

I breathe your perfume in fashionable boutiques,
I gaze at bouquets you would have adored at floral shops,
I notice every woman who dresses like you
Of a certain age and height,
I imagine they’re you, I pray they’re you,
But it is all a mind device to console me.

I’ve been fasting in this emotional desert,
I’m losing my strength and my real essence,
I’m wasting away with such a hunger
To see the world through your eyes,
To watch your hair flirt with the sunlight,
To touch your hands in a theater or church pew,
To live my life entwined with you.

Everything is difficult now,
Sleep has flown away like a bird,
I remain awake in the pale moonlight
That has disowned me as a lover
And frowns at my presence in the night.

Dreamlight

Oh, I am lonely by a desert palm,

The perfume of the near-forgotten rose.

Look not to where those eagles fiercely fight,

Day Dreamer

Day Dreamer

If dreams would end with life of all life,
would our dreams still suffer with strife?
Would the day dreamer still dream,
or is it all that it may seem?
Dreaming in a night, or in a day,
dreaming as it's all flown away.

Living a life as it use to be,
like branches of stars we see.
Is this but a dream within a dream,
to grasp the glistening moonlight beam?
From dawn to dusk, dusk to dawn,
dreaming of that day that is gone.

That day to which all dreams died,
with all fears and hope we feel inside.
Dreams that died will be born once more.
dreams freed beyond the open door.
If dreams live within all life,
will it one day be free of all strife?

To be in the vastness of one's dream,
and lit the way with a sparkle gleam.
To be with peace and fear surround,
to be the lost now is found.

The Mix-Up

One winter morning
Upon awakening from a long night sleep
All characters got mixed up with their authors
Including Pinocchio
Who could not decide what was real:
Had he dreamt of being Carlo Collodi
Or was it that Carlo Collodi was dreaming
Of being Pinocchio?

This occurred long after
Upon awakening from a long night sleep
Zhuang Zi woke up from his dream
And was at a loss to figure out
How real was real and asked:
Had he dreamt of being a butterfly
Or was it rather that a butterfly
Was dreaming of being Zhuang Zi?

The next day
As she woke up from a long night sleep
An elephant got mixed up with a crocodile
And she could not decide what was real:
Had she dreamt of being a crocodile
Or was it rather that a crocodile
Was dreaming of being an elephant?

Two years later
Upon awakening from a long night sleep
The moon became confused with the sun
And it could not decide what was real:
Had it dreamt of being the sun
Or was it that the sun was dreaming
Of being the moon?

And in a rare unguarded state of mind
Upon awakening from a long night sleep
God got embarrassed for the muddle
But she could not decide what was real:
Had she dreamt of being Man
Or was it rather that Man
Was dreaming of being God?

There Will Be Images

in the mirages
amidst the desert heat
there will be images
fifty or so
for one real tiger
multiplying all the
fears of being
devoured
in the hunger of
its mouth

its fangs
