^^^ An Idiom I Wouldn't Have Guessed In a Month of Sundays

Sitting in a coffee shop
Early the other morning
Getting started for my day
I almost dropped my cup

I was reading the paper
About health insurance costs
Stock market dives
And sub-prime credit woes

When one of the guys
In the booth behind me
Leaned over to his friend and quietly said
I guess not expecting me to hear

I swear to God
His exact words were
And I quote
'My dick's fallen off.'

I hadn't been
Paying much attention
To their coversation
Up until then

With my hot coffee
Almost jumping into my lap
My ears perked up to hear
The rest of this tragedy

Obviously his freind
Was not as shocked
As I was
At this news flash

His calm reply was
'Mine too.
It's not that uncommon
At our age after all.'

They were both taking it
Far better than if
It had happened to me
For God's sake

His friend continued
'My doctor tells me
There are several things
That can be done.

For best results He wants to
Run some tests to see
What may have triggered it.'

I wanted to know too
So I could avoid doing
Whatever these guys did
To lose trigger and all

He went on 'They don't just
Throw Viagra at you
The way they used to.
Could be nerve damage,

Or something else.'
- - - Something else - - -
Now the lights
Were finally coming on

Come to think of it
I knew lots of things
That had fallen off lately
Attendance in schools - - - voter turnout

Nothing had actually
Dropped off entirely
It was only
A performance issue

Their use of an idiom
Made me feel like a blockhead
I was relieved to learn their doctors
Had something left to work with

I Don't Know If You Knew

I don't know if you knew
But sometimes I think of you
Sometimes I feel happy
Remembering those fun moments we had together
How it would bring me joy to make you laugh
To make you smile - Bright up your day
How I would enjoy seeing you every day
Having long conversations together
How it would please me to pleasure you
Make you feel like a queen - Treat you like royalty

I don't know if you knew
But sometimes I think of you
Sometimes I yearn
Remembering that amazing friendship we shared
Shocked at how horridly it suddenly ended
Shocked at how cold you treated me
I yearn for that strong friendship we shared
Like no other - Like every other
I sometimes ask myself why it is that I still do
After finding out your true self
I guess I'm just a fool - Loved you too much

I don't know if you knew
But sometimes I think of you
Sometimes I feel love
Thinking of you - Your beauty
Feeling that there's no other girl out there
Which could ever replace you
Or one to share the same love I share for you
I don't know why I loved you so much
Or is it love? - I just don't know any more

I don't know if you knew
But sometimes I think of you
Sometimes I try to negotiate
Thinking that I could change
Change for the better
Become the man you want me to be
Get in shape - Be more fancy
Maybe one day you'd come to realise
That you've made a terrible mistake
And that one day, you'll want to make amends

I don't know if you knew
But sometimes I think of you
Sometimes I feel confused
Not knowing whether I still feel for you
But in the end knowing that deep down
I never stopped loving you - Caring for you
I try to tell others that I stopped loving you
Sometimes I even try to fool myself that I just don't care
But it's hard to fool your own heart - Possibly impossible

I don't know if you knew
But sometimes I think of you
Sometimes I feel in denial
Feeling that there's still a chance
I could still fix things - I'd think
It's not too late - I'd assure myself
We could still be close - As friends, of course
I could supress my feelings for you
It's ok - I'd do anything for you

I don't know if you knew
But sometimes I think of you
Sometimes I feel hate
Remembering all the sacrifices I made for you
How unappreciative you were, are
I cant believe I fell for you
I'd love to know what I saw in you
Never have I been able to explain
Not to me - Not to anyone
I wish you had just acted cold from the start
Instead of leading me on for so long
What a fool I was, am

I don't know if you knew
But sometimes I think of you
Sometimes I feel sad
Sad that I never lived up to your expectations
Sad that I could never be the man you wanted
The man of your dreams - Your fantasies
Remembering the times when I was wrong
Causing you to feel sad - Disappointing you
But in the end there was nothing I could do
I just wasn't good enough for you

I don't know if you knew
But sometimes I think of you
Sometimes I feel forgiveness
Forgiving you for the way you treated me
How you handled the situation - Handled me
You just don't know how to handle these situations
Guys who have feelings for you - Or better yet,
Are madly in love with you - You just don't know
But it's ok - I'd say to myself
It's not your fault - I forgive you

I don't know if you knew
But sometimes I think of you
Sometimes I feel regret
Remembering the first day I ever met you
Wishing I could just go back
Reversing everything that happened
Stopping me from going through this pain
Avoiding getting my heart crushed like no other
Not having to spend every day
Wishing that I never felt for you
Wishing that I had never fallen for you

I don't know if you knew
But sometimes I think of you
Sometimes I feel angry
Remembering the way you treated me after
How furious it would make me
Knowing that what we had was all over
Sometimes I wouldn't be able to help it
The anger just gets to me
Sometimes I scream - Sometimes I swear
Sometimes I hit things - Sometimes I throw them

I don't know if you knew
But sometimes I think of you
I guess I've been thinking about you a lot
It's already been seven weeks
I don't know why I've been counting
But I guess I have
But I guess you know that by now

Exit to Enter

I can finally feel theres a way out
I can finally feel love theres no doubt
I have been walking these streets for too long
looking for a way out only to do wrong
I used to do music because it was fun
the crowd used to love listening to the punchline come
they were all on their feet in the competition I won
I think I found it too hard to work out what I wanted
it was like a maths sum,
like my homework it was never done
I wanted fortune and fame
but I got scared when a stranger knew my name
I never wanted to be in what they call the game
I just wanted to be part of the music
it gives freedom and the love dies as soon as you loose it
cause your doing it for them and not for yourself
when your alone at a bus stop are they there to help?
they hear your song and they know how youve felt
but then they start telling you how you should feel
they start lecturing you on what is fake and real
when all I wanted to do was speak the truth
they wanted me to record gangster rap in the booth
I'm sorry to be what they wanted I had to refuse
cause rap is a game that too many people confuse
you can say its painted as something its not by the news
but really its these fake guys who make a couple of tunes
link up with a couple of guys and think there in crews
half of these popstars know nothing about rhythm and blues
you say you wanna lace a track
you barely know how to lace your shoes.
So in them keep walking on
and watch you don't trip into the pit of hell
because I was once a fool like you who almost fell,
but lying here now, I can see the gates of heaven
they are opening for me I can tell.

Coffee beans all ground up,
Coffee in my favourite cup,
Coffee black, coffee white,
Coffee dark, coffee light,
Coffee right, to start the day,
Coffee at work, coffee at play,
Coffee midday, coffee at night,
Coffee to sober, coffee to excite,
Coffee weak, coffee strong,
But maybe instead some Lapsang Souchong! ! ! !

A Cup of Coffee

I start my day with coffee as my friend
The beans so fresh, as it blends
Giving out an aroma, that wakes me up
I stumble to the kitchen and look for the cup
I pour some black liquid and sip right away
I just want coffee, to start my day
Then on the road I'm on my way
Coffee is my friend to make my day
Stuck in traffic, I loose my mind
I then sip my coffee and just rewind
I get to work with a cup in hand
Juggling with papers I can't withstand
The coffee at work tastes bitter and cheap
But it's better than getting caught counting sheep
All day long, I make pot after pot
Of black steaming mugs of liquid gut-rot
Tanked up on coffee, I face the day
Taking anything that comes my way.

He Said

He said he loved me,
He said I was the one,
In the end he’s the one that shattered my heart,
He said he never loved another girl like he loved me,
He said I was the one girl he ever wanted in life,
In the end he’s the one that made me think twice what other guys say,
He said he would never cheat on me,
He said things I should believe,
In the end I didn’t believe the words that came out of his mouth,
He said he would never leave me,
He said he would be there for me,
In the end he was the one that cheated on me with my best friend,
He said things that wasn’t true,
He made a fool out of me,
He is the one to be blamed,
She is the one that made him think I was the one cheating on him,
She told him lies,
Fill his head with things that he never told me,
I knew things wasn’t right,
I knew he was cheating on me,
I made myself believe that he wouldn’t cheat on me,
I was wrong,
Wrong to believe in him or my so called friend,
He may had said a lot of things but in the end he lost me.

Somebody

At a diner down on Broadway they make small talk
When she brings his eggs and fills his coffee cup
He jokes about his love life
And tells her he's about ready to give up
That's when she says "I've been there before
But keep on lookin'
Cause maybe who you're lookin' for is
Somebody in the next car
Somebody on the mornin' train
Somebody in the coffee shop
That you walk right by everyday
Somebody that you look at but never really see
Somewhere out there is somebody"
Across town in a crowded elevator
He can't forget the things that waitress said
He usually reads the paper
But today he reads a strangers face instead
It's that blue eyed girl
From two floors up
Maybe she's the one
Maybe he could fall in love with
Somebody in the next car
Somebody on the mornin' train
Somebody in the coffee shop
That you walk right by everyday
Somebody that you look at but never really see
Somewhere out there is somebody
Now they laugh about the moment that it happened
A moment they both missed until that day
When he saw his future in her eyes
Instead of just another friendly face
And he wonders why he searched so long
When she was always there
At that diner waitin' on
Somebody in the next car
Somebody on the mornin' train
Somebody in the coffee shop
That you walk right by everyday
Somebody that you look at
But never really see
Somewhere out there
Oh, somewhere out there
Is somebody

My Friend George

Read in the paper bout a man killed with a sword
And that made my think of my friend george
People said the man was five foot six
Sounds like george with his killing stick
Hey bro, whats the word
Talkin bout my friend george
Hey bro, whats the word
Talkin bout my friend george
You talkin bout my friend george
I knew george since hes eight
I always thought that he was great
And anything that george would do
You know that I would do it too
George liked music and george liked to fight
He worked out in a downtown gym every night
Id spar with him when work was done
We split lips but it was all in fun
Hey bro, whats the word
You talkin bout my friend george
Hey bro, whats the word
Talkin bout my friend george
Talkin bout my friend george
Next thing I hear georges got this stick
Hes using it for more than kicks
I seen him down at smalleys bar
He was wired up, I tried to calm him down
Avenge yourself he says to me
Avenge yourself for humanity
Avenge yourself for the weak and the poor
Stick it to these guys right through their heads
Well, the fight is my music, the stick is my sword
And you know that I love you, so please dont say a word
Cant you hear the music playing, the anthem, its my call
And the last I seen of george was him
Running through the door, I says -
Hey bro, whats the word
Talkin bout my friend george
Hey bro, whats the word
You talkin bout my friend george
Talkin bout my friend george
Hey bro, whats the word
You talkin bout my friend george
Hey bro, whats the word
What me saying bout my friend george
Hey bro, whats the word
Hear you talkin bout my friend george
Hey bro, whats the word
I hear talkin bout my friend george

The smell of coffee

The smell of coffee
that is boiling in the early morning
goes right through the room
and it reminds me of you,
that makes the most wonderful coffee.

It stands at work
and boils black in a machine
and I hear it gurgle
like a fountain
that wants to flow over.

I wonder if you
are getting coffee at that place,
or is it too healthy there
that they only stay
with fruit juice.

At times a person needs to be
silent over the things in life,
but I want to grab every day
and build a wonderful life
with you and make the very best of it.

East Side Story

There was this girl I used to see - down on 42nd street
She'd walk by on her way to work - n' make the air smell so sweet
I used to sit in a coffee shop - sometimes I'd have a cup
And when she'd go by - she'd light up the sky
Like the sun coming up
She be standin' by the bus stop - driver opened up the door
I'd just sit n' watch her - getting on the 104
I wanna give her my number - I wanna tell her my name
Wanna climb on board that cross-town bus
Take a chance she feels the same
It's just another east side story
Everybody's got a tale to tell
And like a hundred guys before me
I fell under her spell
Some things you hold on to - some you just let go
Seems like the ones that you can't have
Are the ones that you want most
I think about her sometimes - I wonder if she was real
And if I ever find her I'm gonna tell her how I feel
It's just another east side story
Everybody's got a tale to tell and like a hundred guys before me
I fell under her spell
It's still the same old story - it's still the same old game
Up there on the eastside - life goes on the same
She never knew my number - never even knew my name
She climbed on board that cross-town bus I never saw her again

Old Friend, How Far Down Did You Fall (True Birds Can Fly)

Old Friend, My My You've lost it all
Old Friend, Worst of all
You lost me

Old Friend, My Sweetest Friend
I tell you this is not the worst that you did
A back stabber can get carpal tunnel
Just as soon as a poor shot improves there aim
Our friendship, your game
All ended when I turned my back and ran
Not out of fear but of disgust of what you became
Don't bother reaching anymore for a hand
Because mine is with me, And not in yours

Old Friend, How you have fallen
Broken you remain, in love with your fellow
So when you are bawling
And bellowing
Remember the regrets you've made.
And remember my face.

Old Friend....
My old friend how you have dropped
That is not a hole, it is a grave
And this feeling you feel is not embarrassment but Hate
It's blame, Remains, Yours and Yours alone
So don't point that hate at me

Old Friend....

I Hear Music From The Wind

i hear music from the wind
it 's the arias of the diva air.

i hear the sad song from the conch
i keep it singing in my ear

i see the great love from the rays of the sun
spreading
embracing me this early morning

i taste the coffee-ness of coffee from the cup
i love the sweetness of sugar the creaminess of cream

i love the liveliness of life
i dance its dance and sings its songs and taste its taste

i face all things sitting down

You

It's now become the saddest story
I was never worth the worry
Not that you would notice anyway
But when I'm walking in my sleep
The floor is cold beneath my feet
And as I step
You're with me everyday
You oh you
You've gone and started something
That you won't see through
You oh you
You've got this thing about
What should be coming true
Was a friend
Things were different then
Either way I have to lose
Now it seems
There's a distance between
What you say and what you do
You're steps will always lead me here
I've found myself in God knows where
It's something I will always seem to do
You know you'll ask me how I've been
But what exactly do you mean
What would you like for me to say to you
You oh you
Gone and started something
That you won't see through
You oh you
You've got this thing about
What should be coming true
You were a friend
Things were different then
Either way I have to lose
Now it seems
There's a distance between
What you say and what you do
Was a friend
Things were different then
Either way I have to lose
Now it seems
There is a distance between
What you say and what you do
You oh you
You've gone and started something

Got this thing about

Out of the Blue A Patch of Green

-****Rousseau alleged to have used
a pallette of a hundred and some-odd
different greens
in one painting********
-------------------------

There was an empty table
Next to mine
She walked by dressed in green
Holding her coffee she took a spare chair
Then sat down her back to me

She got my attention
My guess was
She was not
Encouraging nor
Expecting company

After the green hit me
Came the pleasent smell
Over the roasting coffee
It was like in the cartoons
When the drawing of the scent

Comes under the guy's nose
Lifts him off his seat
He floats acrosss the room
Led by his nose
By the visable wafts

Who knows what scent it was
I suppose there are some
Who can tell and know its name
All I knew
It was pulling on me

Back to the green in the chair
Darker green at the seams
Slacks lighter green
Leather jacket and
Shoes both different green

Tail of a sweater
Below back of the jacket
Damn another darker green
I wish I had names
for all these greens

Ankles are barely showing
A light tan do they still call it hose
A beige I guess
Probably has a better
Brand name I also don't know

I'm writing this down
As fast as I can
I was working on other stuff
But this is too good to forget
Living in the moment observing

I was thinking
This green is going
To be gone soon
I'm almost out of writing paper
To describe anything more

My coffee's getting cold
What's she here for
To be seen
To just drink coffee
Pass the time until

I look up the green is gone
All I'm left with is
A cold cup of coffee
And this
For you to read

Strange But True 2 - Footsteps On The Stairs

I was a store man in an engineering factory,
during the early 1960’s when this story took place.
The company had rented and old tailor shop
as an extra storeroom just down the road.
It was time to do a stock take,
in the shop there on my own.
I had been in the building many times before on my own.
That day seemed no exception.
The building had three floors,
the ground floor, and the first floor
where I would be working and the second floor,
which had at one time been a flat.
I was seventeen at the time.

Therefore, I began my work
and began counting the stock,
when from the floor above I could hear
what sounded like a woman’s shoes
pacing around on the wooden floor.
My heart began to beat faster,
as I knew I was the only one in the building.
I said to myself if whatever it was
began to descend the stairs, I was going to be gone.
Then it happened,
my dread.
The footsteps reached the stairs
and began to descend.
I dropped what I was doing,
and down to the ground floor ran.
Once outside I locked the only entrance door
and ran back to the factory,
swearing I would not go back there anymore.
A supervisor saw the fear within me.
It took him an hour to calm me down.

He finally persuaded me
to accompany him back to the shop,
so he could prove to me that there was nothing there.
We would search the shop from top to bottom.
I reluctantly agreed.
The first floor that we checked was the one
where I heard the noise.
It was an empty space;
there was nothing there at all,
only wooden floorboards covered with a layer of dust.
No footprints to indicate someone had been walking there.
Everywhere we searched,
but nothing could we find.
Eventually he said what I heard was only in my mind.
A couple of months went by
and a story about the shop emerged.
A young woman had hung herself
on that floor many years before.
Now you may think the story is over now,
and you would be wrong.

Every year in the summer,
we would have some students come to work during their college break
the following year was with no exception.
The two that came were in my charge
and had to move some stock within the tailor shop.
I had to go back to the factory
and would check back on them in a half an hour.
When I returned I found them cowering in the corner.
They accused me of never leaving,
that I would not answer when they called.
I just kept walked about trying to scare them there.
They did not know what I had experienced on that floor,
nor did they know the story of the woman.
The building is no longer there,
pulled down and replaced with offices many years ago.
The mystery remains. Was what I heard made up in my mind?
If this is the case, what did a year later,
did those two students hear?

In the Storm's Eye

Don't go. There's still some coffee left,
And, look, it seems about to rain,
And have you read this morning's
Headlines? Darkness of a deeper
Kind has fallen on so many places,
War and hatred, hunger, death,
Yet, here, for now, a ray of light
Has warmed this messy little
Room. Not of the sun (recall
The rain) , the ray is yours.
You've made me happy.
Let me have your mug.
I'll get you coffee.
Do not go.

You Are So Vain

You're So Vain
- Carly Simon
You walked into the party
Like you were walking onto a yacht
Your hat strategically dipped below one eye
Your scarf it was apricot
You had one eye in the mirror
As you watched yourself gavotte
And all the girls dreamed that they'd be your partner
They'd be your partner, and
You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain
I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't you?
You had me several years ago
When I was still quite naive
Well, you said that we made such a pretty pair
And that you would never leave
But you gave away the things you loved
And one of them was me
I had some dreams they were clouds in my coffee
Clouds in my coffee, and
You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain
I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't you?
I had some dreams they were clouds in my coffee
Clouds in my coffee, and
You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain
I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't you?
Well, I hear you went up to Saratoga
And your horse naturally won
Then you flew your Lear jet up to Nova Scotia
To see the total eclipse of the sun
Well, you're where you should be all the time
And when you're not, you're with
Some underworld spy or the wife of a close friend
Wife of a close friend, and
You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain
