Fragments - Lines 0183 - 0192
Among rams and asses and horses, Kyrnos, we look for those
Of noble breeding, and a man wants them to mate
From worthy stock. Yet a noble man does not mind marrying
A base woman of base birth if she brings him money in abundance,
Nor does a woman shrink from becoming the wife of a base man
With wealth; she prefers a rich husband to a worthy one.
Money is what they honor; the noble weds a base man's daughter,
The base a worthy man's: wealth mixes stock.
Thus do not be amazed, son of Polypaos, that the citizen's stock
Is growing feeble, for what is noble is being mixed with what is base.

Fragments - Lines 0667 - 0682
If I had money, Simonides, I would not feel such pain
As I do now, when in the company of the noble.
As it is, wealth recognizes me but passes by, and I am speechless
Out of want, although it would seem that I know better than most
That now, with our white sails lowered, we are being carried
Out of the Melian Sea through the murky night,
And the men refuse to bail, although the sea sweeps over
Both sides of the ship. Indeed, only with great difficulty is anyone likely to be
Saved, acting as they are: they have stopped the helmsman,
Good though he was, who kept watch skillfully;
And they are plundering the cargo by force. Discipline has perished,
And fair division is no longer carried out in an open fashion;
The deckhands are in control, and the base have the upper hand over the noble.
I am afraid that the waves may swallow up the ship.
Let this, well hidden, be my riddling message for the noble,
Though a base man too may understand it, if he is clever.
Epitaph of Hipponax
Behold Hipponax' burialplace,
A true bard's grave.
Approach it not, if you're a base
And base-born knave.
But if your sires were honest men
And unblamed you,
Sit down thereon serenely then,
And eke sleep too.
Tuneful Hipponax rests him here.
Let no base rascal venture near.
Ye who rank high in birth and mind
Sit down-and sleep, if so inclined.

It's Like Mrs.Chakki's Base
‘It's like Mrs.Chakki’s base’-
It’s a saying in a countryside.
Her husband and the camels
Walk together in the desert.
It’s his first return:
Riyals bless the soul of their dream
With a body; a base of home
Takes its birth on the canal bank.
The oasis allures him again:
He flies over the Arabian sea,
Leaving the base with Mrs.Chakki.
Dream balls roll in her eyes.
She awaits in sweet expectancy,
But the postman passes by,
Like her days,
Holding not out a letter for her.
The decades slip into
The barranca of past,
Leaving wrinkles and silver streaks
On her dreams.
The time partitions every hole
And every chink in the base –
Mongooses, bandicoots
And rats get due shares.
“Will he ever return, Chakki? ”
Silent answer fills her eyes.
‘It's like Mrs.Chakki’s base’-
It’s a saying, and an ember as well.

It seemed that rebellion must have an unassailable base, something guarded not merely from attack, but from the fear of it: such a base as we had in the Red Sea Parts, the desert, or in the minds of the men we converted to our creed.

A cylinder is hollow.
A rise is bound by the top.
A fall is bound by the base.
A cylinder has no top, no base.
But, mind, it is viewed as hollow.

My Second Narrative Poem
There was a girl named Zelle,
Who always wanted to excel.
In every thing that she does,
it is accompanied with a must.
People hated Zelle in simple ways
Through her willingness to have a base.
A base where she will be happy.
A base where she will excel.
Patience is a virtue,
that's what they say.
Willingness is also a virtue,
that's for me to say.
Zelle worked hard to find her goal.
Exert countless effort and made it bold.
Through heart-break things that she do,
People loves her tight.

Rocket
Cape canaveral florida, ready for takeoff stages
Zoom destination an isolated planet mars
On which observed many relics of past ages
On return despite rocks no spars
2nd destination worlds largest planet jupiter
From there obtained some ancient relics
When returned at base -- we want hoopiter!
And we would like some fancy cows milk
3rd destinations many ringed planet saturn
While there darted among the rings
At base had a few thoughts of astral matter
Again at base a welcoming with sings
4th zoom destination to an isolated planet neptune
Whose surface was clear of any vegetation
At base quote -- would like large dirigible balloon
During when there was no hesitation
5th zoom destination smallest planet pluto
On which there are many beautiful sights
It has no vegetation you know
No power to illuminate dark nights.

The stability of happiness
Happiness stays
When you feel safe and at base.
Happiness trembles
When you assume weight and at height.
Happiness tumbles down
When you are atop, base out of sight.
Be content with
What comes to you. There comes delight.

Till That Uprising
There he sits
With virtues becoming extinct
Cornered by mauvis
Suppressed by vice
His own traits
Hinderance in the race
Finds solace
At the base
The base
Which supports the entire race
When this creed
Raises its head in revolt
Lord
Live me till that plot.

Paradoxical bases
One earns wisdom by learning.
One gets learning by errors.
Are errors the base for wisdom?
One attains moral by conviction.
One gains conviction by sins.
Are sins the root Of the moral?
One exudes kindness by loving.
One experiences love from insecurity.
Is insecurity the base for kindness?
One gets detachment by dispossessing.
One gets dispossessed from ennui.
Is ennui the base for detachment?
Evil is the mother of God.

Fragment: What Men Gain Fairly
What men gain fairly -- that they should possess,
And children may inherit idleness,
From him who earns it—This is understood;
Private injustice may be general good.
But he who gains by base and armed wrong,
Or guilty fraud, or base compliances,
May be despoiled; even as a stolen dress
Is stripped from a convicted thief; and he
Left in the nakedness of infamy.

A Touch Of Nature
Scattered-the leaves
That once waved their majesty
High atop a wonder throne
From which casts the glory
O f rare beauty earthward...
Following the wind
With no direction
Separate the frail players blow
Base to base torn from home
And the arms which gather life
And hold it to its roots...

Fragments - Lines 0019 - 0030
Kyrnos, as I work my craft let a seal be set upon
These words of mine, and they will never be stolen unremarked,
Nor will anyone change the good that is there to something worse;
And this is what everyone will say: 'These are the lines of Theognis,
The man from Megara' -- famous throughout all peoples.
But all my fellow citizens I have not yet been able to please.
This is nothing to wonder at, son of Polypaos, for not even Zeus
Pleases everyone, whether he rains or holds it back.
To you with kindly intent I offer such advice as I myself,
Kyrnos, heard from noble men when I was still a child.
Be intelligent, and do not at the cost of shameful or unjust deeds
Attempt to draw to yourself honors of merits or wealth.
Alert Levels
On base,
we had different levels
of alert status:
Green, yellow, orange; red.
Red was the highest level
which meant the base was under
imminent attack.
Green meant normal.
It was usally the green level
When something happened.
