He Was My Sun
He was my sun, my one and only son,
and dressed up as a cowboy for the day.
And so I handed him a little gun
of fastened random sticks, for him to shoot and play.
And dressed up as a cowboy for the day
he found some foes (with bows and arrows made
of fastened random sticks for them) to shoot, and play
the part of redskins in a mock charade.
He found some foes (with bows and arrows made)
in his story books before he left for school.
The parts of redskins, in a mock charade,
were painted with a crimson war paint, oh so cruel.
In history books, before he left from school -
the tales they told, of victories that we'd won,
were painted with a crimson war paint, oh so cruel -
the flow of paint was hard to staunch when once begun.
From tales they told, of victories that we'd won,
he learned to fight for god and country glory, though
the flow of pain, 'twas hard to staunch when once begun
and cruel to both sides (as he'd later come to know) .
He learned to fight for god and country glory, though
the wounds of war were still unseen (though nigh)
and cruel to both sides (as we'd later come to know):
and soon he stuffed his bag with several things of youth and said goodbye.
The wounds of war were still unseen. Though nigh,
the hours boomed, the clock struck 12, before his time to leave,
and soon he stuffed his bag with several things of youth and said goodbye
to those who'd stay and even those who didn't grieve.
The hours boomed, the clock struck 12, before his time to leave -
they brought back bags they'd stuffed with severed things of those who'd died
to those who'd stayed. And even those who didn't grieve
with tears were stiff, and hid in wooden boxes meant to hide.
They brought back bags they'd stuffed with severed things of those who'd died.
They brought his boots back, camouflaged with mud.
With tears, the stiff were hid in wooden boxes meant to hide
our children from the spilling of their blood.
They brought his boots back, camouflaged with mud.
They said they'd needed him to help defend
our children from the spilling of their blood.
But can they ever see or really comprehend?
They said they'd needed him to help defend,
and so they handed him a little gun.
But can they ever see or really comprehend?
He was my sun, my one and only son...

Katy Brought My Guitar Back Today
Katy brought my guitar back today.
I left it there to play, when I'd stay over.
And I remember all those nights
Sitting in the fireplace light,
And how she loved to hear me play;
Katy brought my guitar back today.
Katy brought my guitar back today.
I've seen it make her cry, over and over.
She told me when I wasn't there,
And she would wake up feelin' scared,
She'd hold it in her arms and be okay;
Katy brought my guitar back today.
We had our stormy times like anybody else;
Oh, more than once I broke her heart.
And when I couldn't tell her I was sorry by myself;
I could tell her with an old guitar.
But, I'm afraid this time things have gone too far.
Katy brought my guitar back today.
I guess that means this time it's really over.
And as I sit and play it now,
The songs all seem so sad, somehow,
I wish that I'd of left it in the case
Katy brought my guitar back today.
And I remember all those nights
Sitting in the fireplace light,
And how she loved to hear me play;
Katy brought my guitar back today...

The Day Old Shep Died
it's been thirty years,
that he's been gone,
the day he died, brought tears,
all day, i played his song.
for nine long years,
i loved him and he loved me,
the day he died, broght tears,
toward the end, he could barely see.
when he died, i was seventeen years,
my child hood died that day,
the day he died, brought tears,
during his youth, we were always at play.
him and i was, so close in years,
when i got shep he was five and i eight,
the day he died brought tears,
he always ate his meals, off our plate.
he died at eighty-four in human years,
he lived to a ripe old age,
the day he died brought tears,
for this poem, he set the stage.
i can't believe, its been so many years,
i think about him, all the time,
the day he died, brought tears,
but old shep, was all mind.
of all these many years,
no dog has taken the place of old shep,
the day he died, brought tears,
i'll always remember, that dog with pep
in memory of old shep 1946-1960 written june 21,1990
Michael Jackson
I didn't get to say goodbye
I didn't get to tell you that I love you
I didn't even tell you how I feel
You left in a hurry
Without a sound
With no clues
I have to ask why
Why did you have to leave me
Why didn't you tell me how you feel
I don't understand
Why you left
Is it because the God wanted you
But I am selfish I won't share you
Not even with God
You were my hero
My idol
My star
You had my heart
And when you died
You took my heart with you
But that's okay
Because I know I will soon
Be with you
Then I can have my heart back
You are in heaven
Away from all this distruction
But I must ask
Why didn't you take me
Then I could of truly told you everything
You are older than I am
But I still love you
You made mistakes
But so have I
I didn't want us to be together
But I want us to be able to tell each other anything
I wanted us to become Great friends
But now you are gone
Gone to heaven
Is that the best thing
If so for who
You left millions of people
Heartbroken and sad
Gone to heaven
Must be good for you
No distruction
No evil
All good
I didn't say goodbye
And that is killing me
I didn't say all the things I wanted to
That's tearing me apart
I am going to miss you
But as you leave
Another comes
Maybe he wil be like you
But I would have died for you
I am crying my heart and soul out for you
Praying you know that I loved you
You changed millions of poeple's lives
Including myself
You made me believe
I can too feel the music
The beat is within my heart
Closing my eyes
Picturing you here
Is not the same
Of having you here
With all of us
You left behind
Your family
friends
fans
me
Would you have come back to us all
Or would you wait for us
Until our time comes
But now it's time for us to let you go
People will never forget
How you changed everything
We will miss you forever
But now it's time to say goodbye
So goodbye Michael Jackson

Remebering The Never Again
bring me in
let me in
I'll promise to defend for everything that's been given
your driving me nuts
your spilling my blood and guts
hello my friend
the demon have come to me
they made whispers louder then thunder
they told me i better not make another blunder
or my fun would be over
bring me in
let me in
I'll promise to promise to defend for everything was given
your driving me nuts
your spilling my blood and guts
hello again
I'm going to try to mend somethings
over and over again
i kneel down
just to feel something so real
a kiss goodnight
and the rooms goes dark
i shut the door
never to venture back anymore
bring me in
let me in
I'll promise to defend everything that was given
your driving me nuts
your spilling my blood and guts
hello for the last time
i guess things have changed
and that's fine
i really don't mind
kind as you are
your still to far
your picture i have captured in a jar
forever embedded in my jagged memories
bring me in
let me in
ill promise to defend everything that was given
your driving me nuts
your spilling my blood guts
but its finally over
over oh over

So Hurt
Its hard I know to understand
Nothing lasts for ever
The things you used to say and do
The places you would go to meet
When you were together
You set your face against the tide
The harsh words that were spoken
But after all the anger
The shouting and the tears
You found your heart was broken
Fight the tears
Fight the fever
Dont give in
Soul deceiver
So hurt
With the pain you cant hide
So lost
And lonely inside
So hurt
When the feeling has died
So hurt
With the pain you cant hide
So lost
And lonely inside
So hurt
When the feeling has died
Just like the clock went back ten years
To make a new beginning
To work out how to live your life
To take the board and play the game
And recognise youre winning
Your memories mean nothing now
Youre just a little older
Moving forward with the crowd
Silent fears but laughing loud
Not wiser but just bolder
Fight the tears
Fight the fever
Fight the hurt
Dont give up
So hurt
With the pain you cant hide
So lost
And lonely inside
So hurt
When the feeling has died
So hurt
With the pain you cant hide
So lost
And lonely inside
So hurt
When the feeling has died

Everything In Its Own Time
Remember everything I told you
Keep it in your heart like a stone
And when the winds have blown things round and back again
What was once your pain will be your home
All around the table the white haired men have gathered
Spilling their sons blood like table wine
(spilling their sons blood)
Remember everything I told you
Everything in its own time
The music whispers you in urgency
Hold fast to that languageless connection
A thread of known that was unknown and unseen seen
Dangling from inside the fifth direction
(dangling from inside the fifth direction)
Boys around the table are mapping out their strategies
Kings all of mountains one day dust
A lesson learned a loving God and things in their own time
In nothing more do I trust
We own nothing
Nothing is ours
Not even love so fierce it burns like baby stars
But this poverty is our greatest gift
(nothing is ours)
The weightlessness of us as things around begin to shift
(the weightlessness as things begin to shift)
Remember everything I told you
(remember everything I told you)
Keep it in your heart like a stone
(keep it in your heart like a stone)
And when the winds have blown things round and back again
(when the winds have blown things round)
What was once your pain will be your home
Everything in its own time
Everything in its own time

My Best Friend Danny
I met him in nineteen fifty-six
he was my best friend
him and I, was always in a fix
of our fights, we always did mend.
There was the time
we painted the fence
wanted to do the job, real fine
used a whole gallon of paint
it didn't make sense
my brother dave asked,
'What happened to all the paint'?
when we told him, 'We used it all, '
he laughed, I thought, he was going to faint,
thru the years, with that story,
we have really had a ball
Then there was the time
we tried to chop down the tree
my brother got mad, but the three was mine
oh, we were so care-free
I never forget the racoon,
that followed us home,
he seemed to like our radio
that was playing a tune
the racoon, seemed so a lone
I never forgot the indian head
pennies, he sold me,
he stole them, of crime he led,
he had taken them from his dad
I should have known, he sold them so cheap
to get them back, his father was glad
He always did something
to me that was real mean
to make up, a present he would bring
of our friendship, he would lean
He taught me how to smoke
this you say, you call a friend.
when I could have had a stroke,
but he always had money to lend
When I didn't have any friends at all,
Danny was always, by my side
and it sure made me feel tall
if any one picked on me, he would
beat their hide
Every one called him and I a clown,
each one laughed so hard
that it, really brought them down,
at poker, he could really hide a card
Every morning before school
we played poker, he cheated a lot
and with him, I wanted to fight a duel
but he told me 'I cheat not.'
Of the down town loop, we did ride
in nine-teen fifty-nine
our car through the streets, would glide
trying to find girls
that would be his or mine
In nine-teen sixty, my dog shep died,
it was very depressing and sad
him and I, all day we cried
it made me unhappy and a little mad
In nine-teen sixty-two
he joined the army
I tried to join, but didn't make it
those days were very stormy
after what he went through,
I didn't mind a bit
In nine-teen sixty-seven
the army let him go,
at home at last, I thought I was
in heaven
but I soon found out, it wasn't so
The army had changed him, in many ways
Danny was not the same anymore
as I looked back, at those good old days
when I always heard him, knock on the door
All he wanted to do now, is go drink
he could'nt sit still very long
and he was really starting to sink
he had seen action, against the Viet Cong
Next to him one night
a man's throat was slashed, a man who was kind
it wasn't good, or right
and what it must have done, to Danny's mind
Over the years, I saw him, until eighty-one
hav'nt seen him since
remember well, good times and all the fun
Danny where ever you are,
you are still my best friend
does that make sense.
Day Is Done
Do you like me?
Well I hope you do
Cause if you like me
Then I think Im gonna to have to like you too
Well share our things
And have some fun
Then well say goodbye
And go back home when the day is done
If you tell me
Ill tell you too
And well say the things
And do the things that lovers do
Well keep it to ourselves
We wont hurt no one
Then well say goodbye
And go back home when the day is done
Well carve our names
On a tree
Then well burn it down
So no one in the world will see
And well make love
While we watch the flame
Then well walk away
As if we never had no shame
Now we must hide
To be alone
And we cant say
Our sweet things on the telephone
If we cant stop
What weve begun
We should say goodbye
And go back home when the day is done
Do you still like me?
Well I hope you do
Cause if you still like me
Then I think Im gonna have to still like you
We shared our things
And had some fun
Now well say goodbye
And go back home when the day is done
Yeah, well say goodbye
And go back home while
We still have one
Lets say goodbye and go back home
Now the day is done

Left Behind
Sometimes when people are leaving a train,
Behind them, personal belongings still remain.
It is totally amazing what items are found
Each day, on London's busy Underground.
The shelves at Lost Property are very neatly lined,
With an array of items, that people have left behind.
Here are just some of the things, they have retrieved;
Some items really have to be seen, to be believed!
School bags, containing a flask and lunch box,
A stuffed Japanese puffer fish, and a stuffed fox.
Purses, leather wallets, and bunches of keys,
Hats, scarves, gloves, and numerous brollies.
Walking sticks, crutches, and the odd wheelchair,
An array of children's toys, including teddy bears,
Briefcases and folders, containing important notes,
A selection of clothing, including jumpers and coats.
iPads, iPhones, memory sticks, and laptops,
A collection of shoes, socks, and flip-flops.
A whole library of books: fiction and fact,
Suitcases and holdalls, still neatly packed.
Works of art, by artists, both modern and old,
Many items of jewellery, both silver and gold.
Prosthetic arms and legs, and sets of false teeth,
Bags of groceries, including joints of fresh beef.
Cameras, video-cams, and pairs of sunglasses.
Baby buggies, skateboards, train and bus passes.
Hundred of items are left behind every single day;
To Lost Property, these items soon make their way.
Some items, with their owners, are soon reunited;
Owners are very clearly relieved and delighted.
Some items wait for many weeks for collection;
For them, nobody seems to show any affection.

A Penny for the Guy
(Ever remember the fifth of November,
Gunpowder, treason and plot,
We see no reason why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!)
I was sorting through my father's things,
A month since he had died,
And flipping through the books he'd loved,
To still the chill inside,
When out there fell a photograph
Of me, at nine years old,
A tiny square of black and white
That made my blood run cold!
It brought the memories rushing back,
For in that ancient scene,
I stood before a building that
Would make an old man scream,
An air raid shelter, from the war,
A roof so flat and square,
And on the top the bonfire that
Once lit, brought grief to bear.
November 1946,
Was pencilled on the rear,
That date was burnt into my brain,
It brought a sudden tear,
And memories of childhood friends
I hadn't seen since then,
Nor ever would again, I thought,
I left, when I was ten!
We'd stuffed the Guy with newspaper
Inside my father's suit,
And Ben, he had supplied the hat,
And Shirley brought the boots,
We put him on the barrow
Roamed the streets and gave a shout,
'A penny for the Guy, ' we called,
The Guy just flopped about!
'He isn't very real, ' said Ben,
'His head keeps falling off!
We need a broomstick for the neck.'
Then Shirley gave a cough;
'What if I dressed up in the suit,
That mask, to hide my face?
We'd have the best Guy in the street,
The best Guy in the place!
We laughed, and all agreed, so she
Hid in her father's shed,
Put on the suit, too long for her,
The hat just crowned her head,
We put her in the barrow then,
And pushed from street to street,
'A penny for the Guy, ' we said,
You couldn't see her feet.
A funny girl was Shirley then,
With funny little ways,
She seemed too shy to play with us
Except on certain days.
She said her father was a brute,
He'd tie her to a chair,
And once she said, 'he tied me up
And touched me - you know where! '
We didn't understand at all,
Just kids - she shrugged and sighed,
If we thought anything at all
We thought she must have lied,
For fathers didn't do those things,
We'd never heard of that,
And blushed just at the thought of it;
(She hid beneath her hat!)
That night we sneaked her on the roof
Before our folks arrived,
We didn't want them seeing her,
The Guy would look contrived;
The wood was piled up eight feet high,
We sat her at the top,
'Now don't jump up 'til they're all here,
We'll catch them on the hop! '
I'd smelt that funny smell when we
Were climbing on the pile,
We didn't know what smell it was,
Although it smelt quite vile.
But someone had poured petrol on
The wood to make it burn,
We didn't know what petrol was,
The fumes made Shirley squirm.
The fumes, they must have knocked her out
For when the folks arrived,
We waited, she should jump and shout
But she was scarce alive,
The fireworks were going off
And lighting up the sky,
I said to Ben, 'let's get her down! '
The moment passed us by.
A spark lit up the monstrous pile,
I saw Ben, looking pale
The parents down there, staring up
Just cheered, and drank their ale.
The Guy was soon a blazing torch,
I screamed, 'the Guy's a girl! '
And Ben tugged at her father's coat:
'The Guy up there is Shirl! '
Then suddenly the Guy leapt up
And screamed in pain, aloud,
The flames engulfed her as she jumped
Into the waiting crowd,
Her father caught her in his arms
Became a blazing torch,
He ran, half stumbled back with her,
Collapsed upon the porch.
They lay, two blackened corpses there
With rockets overhead,
And Catherine Wheels and Jumping Jacks
Went off as they lay dead.
We never celebrate Guy Fawkes,
That day won't go away!
I slipped that photo back into
That book, called - 'Let Us Pray! '

Now And Then
I think this time you've said enough to make me want to leave this place
Still I keep coming back for more of the same to fan the dying flame
Here inside these walls that seem to move a little closer every day
There must be a way out of this crazy game we play out to the end
Let us just pretend a while
Think about the good things now and then
I think this time that was the best time that we two had ever known
We tried the handle of the house upon the shore and found the open door
Once inside we found a curious moonbeam doing dances on the floor
We were only playing like two children who had stayed away from school
Two of us could not be wrong
Heaven knows who keeps the golden rule
I think this time we've learned enough to know that nothing is the same
But still the pounding of my heart hasn't changed and leavin's so
strange
Here among my thoughts of you I find a gentle longing to be free
There must be a way out of this crazy game we play out to the end
Take away the in-between
Think about the good things now and then
We will see the day when you or I will stay or face up to the end
Let us just pretend a while
And think about the good things now and then

The Next War
You young friskies who today
Jump and fight in Father’s hay
With bows and arrows and wooden spears,
Playing at Royal Welch Fusiliers,
Happy though these hours you spend,
Have they warned you how games end?
Boys, from the first time you prod
And thrust with spears of curtain-rod,
From the first time you tear and slash
Your long-bows from the garden ash,
Or fit your shaft with a blue jay feather,
Binding the split tops together,
From that same hour by fate you’re bound
As champions of this stony ground,
Loyal and true in everything,
To serve your Army and your King,
Prepared to starve and sweat and die
Under some fierce foreign sky,
If only to keep safe those joys
That belong to British boys,
To keep young Prussians from the soft
Scented hay of father’s loft,
And stop young Slavs from cutting bows
And bendy spears from Welsh hedgerows.
Another War soon gets begun,
A dirtier, a more glorious one;
Then, boys, you’ll have to play, all in;
It’s the cruellest team will win.
So hold your nose against the stink
And never stop too long to think.
Wars don’t change except in name;
The next one must go just the same,
And new foul tricks unguessed before
Will win and justify this War.
Kaisers and Czars will strut the stage
Once more with pomp and greed and rage;
Courtly ministers will stop
At home and fight to the last drop;
By the million men will die
In some new horrible agony;
And children here will thrust and poke,
Shoot and die, and laugh at the joke,
With bows and arrows and wooden spears,
Playing at Royal Welch Fusiliers.

I won't be told anymore
That I've been brought down in this storm
And left so far out from the shore
That I can't find my way back, my way anymore
No I won't be told anymore
That I've been brought back in this storm
And left so far out from the shore
That I can't find my way back, my way anymore
No, I..
No, I...
Forgive that they teared down my soul
Bless them that they might grow old
A dream that's forgotten may know
That it's never too late
So many times that I've seen life before me
I searched and found the way to choose to the end
I found a way, to know, why it had to be
Mired in denial and saw all the rain
If we ever find it true
Love will have its way to choose
Three more to tame
We can be ever
I won't be told anymore
That I've been brought down in this storm
And left so far out from the shore
And I can't find my way back, my way anymore
No I won't be told anymore
That I've been brought back in this storm
And left so far out from the shore
That I can't find my way back, my way anymore

The sun that's falling from the southwestern sky
Tells me that I must depart,
So, by sundown today, I'll be on my way,
But I'll be leaving my heart.
It's not the countryside that appealed to my eyes,
It's the spirit and it captured my mind,
But the things I tried to be made a wreck out of me,
Now a different road, I must find.
These things I think are new, I guess they're really old,
It seems I've done 'em once before
Now, to go back to that fork in the road,
Takes all the strength of my soul and more.
Oh, goodbye, goodbye you cruel town,
You've been a fair-weather friend,
Now I will go to some places that I know
Where things don't start just to end.
These things I think are new, I guess they're really old,
It seems that I've done 'em once before,
Now, to go back to that fork in the road,
Takes all the strength of my soul and more.
Oh, goodbye, good goodbye you cruel town,
You've been a fair-weather friend,
Now I will go to some place that I know
Where things don't start just to end.

Little Cowboys Cry
(monte thomas)
Theres a little boy on his knees beside his bed
With a cowboy hat upon his bowed head
Tryin to keep the tears in his eyes
And his heart breaks as the little cowboy cries
As the cowboy cries
He says God forgive me please
I didnt want my daddy to leave
And I promise to be good this time
But his heart breaks as the little cowboy cries
Theres another heart in pain outside his door
His momma heard him cry as she walked the floor
Her love for his daddy has died
And her heart breaks as her little cowboy cries
As her cowboy cries
She says God forgive me please
I know I made him leave
But the pain will go away in time
But her heart breaks as her little cowboy cries
In a smoky little bar way downtown
His daddy is drinkin whiskey down
Tryin to kill the pain he feels inside
And his heart breaks as his little cowboy cries
And his cowboy cries
He says God forgive me please
I know I had to leave
Things havent been good for a long, long time
And his heart breaks as his little cowboy cries
As his cowboy cries
As his cowboy cries
As his cowboy cries
As his cowboy cries
As the cowboy cries
As the cowboy cries
As the cowboy cries
As the cowboy cries

Burnie
Brought up in a world of changes
Part time cleaner in a holiday flat
Stare out to sea at the ships at night
No anaesthesia, Im gonna work on it day to day
No zephyr no light relief it seems
But maybe its a dream
Im lying back in a row of timber cases placed out
On the dock with nightmare faces looking at me
And I can see now, and I wanna be free now
This is my home
This is my sea
Dont paint it with the future, of factories
I want to stay, I feel okay
Theres nothing else as perfect
Ill have my way
Brought up in a world of changes
Waste product, pedestrian, limb from limb
Short changed by the surfing priest again
Two children in the harbour
They play their game stormwater drain
Write their contract in the sand, itll be gray for life
But you can draw the blind
But you cant stop the sun
From shining on and on and getting you there
Tide forever beckons you to leave
But something holds you back
Its not the promise of the swell or a girl
Just a hope that someday someway itll be okay
So you stop and say
This is my home
This is my sea
Dont paint it with the future of factories
This is my life
This is my right
Ill make it what I want to
Ill stay and Ill fight

Only You Know & I Know
We know you really only wanna hear
The things we like to say
But if I said to you please dont do it
You do it anyway
Sometimes I know, we gotta be cruel
Be cruel to be kind
When I ask you, what you see in me
You say our love is blind
Cos only you know and I know
The things we mean to say
Only you know and I know
The things we mean to say
Whenever I think I know you better
Better than I know myself
I open up and give you everything
Then you say, o.k. what else
And when I run away you always cry
You always over react
But I dont know if you know how you really feel
But you better know before I get back
Cos only you know and I know
The things we mean to say
Only you know and I know
The things we mean to say
Just try to remember
Now Im the one you love
You told me, ooh try to remember
Im the one youre always thinking of
You told me, please try to remember
Before I walk away
Remember
Its not good enough telling me the way it was yesterday
Cos only you know and I know
The things we mean to say
Only you know and I know
The things we mean to say
Only you know and I know
The things we mean to say, yes
Only you know and I know
The things we mean to say
Only you know and I know...

Shine
(mick hucknall)
Ooh Ill remember those old love letters
Plagued with memories I cant forget us
Trying to fight it
Trying to hide it
Rekindled flames are not recommended
But it never went out boy
It never ended
Trying to fight it
Trying to hide it
Your love it shines
In a cruel hard world
Its a miracle to find
Someone good
Someone whose love it shines
Your love it shines
Here in this appartment with oh too many rooms
Pearls once meant something they brought me only gloom
Trying to fight it
Trying to hide it
Rekindled flames are not recommended
But it never went out boy
It never ended
Crime can fight it
Lies can hide it
Your love it shines
In a cruel hard world
Its a miracle to find
Someone good
Someone whose love it shines
Your love it shines
Youd better shine it up
Youd better shine it up
Youd better shine it up
Youd better shine it up
In a cruel hard world
Its a miracle to find
Someone good
Someone whose love it shines
Your love it shines
