Might Have Known
I might have known
said Dotty
I might have known
you were just like
all the rest of men
but
said Brintskin
don't you but me
you slime snake
Mother always said
men weren't
to be trusted
and she was right
I should have listened to her
instead going off with men
at such a young age
but hang on there
Brintskin said
I was getting a lift
in a woman's car
after a hard day's work
sure
Dotty said
sure you were
I know women
and I know men
and what happens
when they get together
and what did she want huh?
want to show you her etchings?
no it wasn't like that at all
she just asked
did I want a lift home
after work and I said yes
Brintskin said
I bet you did
I bet you couldn't
get that word yes out
quick enough
why I bet she had her panties off
before you could blink an eye
and as usual
you had to get
caught out didn't you
and Dotty paused
for a moment
to pour a drink
and sip it
all the while
glaring at Brintskin
and he stared at her
as if she'd changed
into a bullfrog
and then she sighed
and said
well what happened?
nothing happened Sweetie
Brintskin replied
she just offered me
a lift home in her car
and I said yes please
and so she gave me a lift home
Dotty sat down
in the armchair
and crossed her legs
and Brintskin studied her thighs
as the skirt rose up
as she sat down
and Dotty said
ok so maybe I believe you
maybe what you say is true
and I am just getting
the wrong end
of the stick
you sure are
Brintskin said
following the line
of his vision
as far as his eyes
could go
and caught a glimpse
of panty line
whiter than snow.

Dotty and Willy.
Dotty screws the pen lid,
puts the pen down, folds
her hands in her lap. Willy
has finished his poem, he
is now silent, his muse has
gone. She watches as her
brother sits back in his chair,
pushes his fingers through his
dark hair and sighs. That makes
her almost cry, that poet muse
going like that, him sitting there,
face empty, sighs leaving him
instead of words. Tonight she
will enter it all in her journal,
after cocoa and a biscuit and
Willy's kiss and him gone off
to bed, humming to himself.
She will sit by lamplight, take
out her pen, and write on the
clean page, how he wrote,
what he wrote, the words,
the muse, the leaving of him.
She will leave out the kiss,
the embrace, the seeing each
other face to face. Willy hates
writing things down, he just likes
to sit when the words come and
he can speak them and let Dotty
write the words in the air floating
there. He gets up from his chair,
paces the room, his hands behind
his back, his words gone, his mood
dark, becoming black. Dotty looks
at her hands, entwines her fingers,
makes a church, makes a steeple,
looks inside, sees ink stained people.

Confession
Some folk think I'm dotty
and I have to confess to a point
especially when I'm still yawning
I know that my thinking's not right.
But sometimes life deals me wrong'n
and quick as a flash I'm messed up
my skirt gets tucked into my knickers
and loo papers sticks to my bum.
I went to the hair dressers Friday
and asked her to dye my hair red,
of course I didn't mean bright red
a brownish red's what I meant.
She didn't think two bits about it,
and mixed up the dye in a tick,
it was purplish pink if I'm honest
and now I just look like a twit.
My hearing's not what it might be
My eyesight is very bad too
but now that my hair's dyed bright purple
my street cred's all gone, I tell you.
So I've taken to being a hoody
I reckon I'm looking real cool
they've banned me from my local Tesco's
and told me I should be in school!

Don't Take Lifts From Dames
Whose car
did you get out of?
Dolly asked.
Some dame
from the bedding department,
you replied.
She’s been bedding you
I suppose? Dolly said.
No, you replied,
she’s seven months pregnant.
So you got her pregnant huh?
Can’t keep your hands
to yourself can you.
I just got a lift home
by her that’s all.
You took off your coat
and went to the sitting room
and poured yourself a drink.
Dolly followed you in.
I found this name
in your pocket book.
A girl’s name.
You recognise it? Eh?
She showed you
the pocket book.
You read the name.
That’s just some dame
whose name I put down
who’s been shoplifting.
So you say.
For all I know
you’re having it off
with her too.
Maybe you’re having all
the dames at the store.
I’m a security guard
not a Casanova, you said.
She went off
out to the kitchen
muttering to herself.
You drained your drink
and poured another.
You could hear her
in the kitchen
slamming down
pots and pans
and cursing the air.
I don’t screw any dames
but you, you said.
You’re my Sweetie pie.
Dolly came back
to the door way
and stared at you.
You mean that?
Sure I do.
Every single word?
Every single word.
I’m your Sweetie pie?
Sure you are.
And you ain’t been sleeping
with no other woman?
No, of course I haven’t.
Never would.
Dolly’s glassy gaze softened.
She pushed back
her hair from her eyes.
Ok Sexy Boy
maybe I believe you.
Maybe you’re telling
me the truth.
Maybe I got you wrong.
She turned and went back
in the kitchen.
You sighed softly.
BUT IF YOU’RE LYING TO ME
I’ll POKE OUT YOUR EYES
she bellowed.
Out in the kitchen
Dolly banged around.
You emptied the glass.
A love was dying.
You could sense it
in your bones and
in the hollow sound.

Comin' In On A Wing And A Prayer
(Alfred ReedTraditional)
When a fellow has the blues he feels discouraged
And there's nothing else but trouble all his life
When he's always crumbled there and never happy
Living with a scold and aggravating wife
If he's sick and tired of life takes the drinking
Do not pass him by, don't greet him with a frown
Do not fail to lend a hand and try to help him
Always lift him up and never knock him down
If he stays out late at night because he's worried
And because his home is not what it should be
Ever smile for him wherever you should meet him
It would help him the right way, don't you see
If he gambles when he's in the town or city
Tell him what he ought to do to gain the crown
Lend a hand and do not fail to show him pity
Always lift him up and never knock him down
[He cannot pace this, he feels disgusted ]???
If he's blue he doesn't have a word to say
Let him know you as friend can be trusted
It would cheer this lonely fellow on his way
If he finds it hard for him to keep his family
[Let a kind word greet him when he's around ]???
Don't say anything at all to make against him
Always lift him up and never knock him down
[If he has no friends, never warns against him ]???
If he's failed at everything that he has tried
Try to lift his load, help him bear his burden
Let him know that you are walking by his side
And if he feels that all is lost, he's falling
[Try to place ... and feet on solid ground ]???
Just remember he's a mother precious darling
Always lift him up and never knock him down
Always lift him up and never knock him down

Dorothy's Response
There is an eminence amongst our hills.
There is a deep quiet in its height.
A man I love of lofty mind
Shares with that mount its quiet.
I admire the quiet.
I seem to require it,
Though it limpens his love for me.
If I wasn't so dotty
Instead of 'YOUR EMINENCE'
I'd have called it 'MOUNT DOROTHY'.

Ducks love Chocolate!
Ducks love chocolate anytime everyday,
They buy it, eat it, especially in May,
One day the ducks ate it in the class,
Then the teacher hurt them which was a lark.
The next day the pupils sued him as he used a spank,
The money went to the pupils which put it in their bank,
The wanted to spend it but then they thought twice,
Then spent it on chocolate which is very nice.

Who's Gonna Take Me Home (The Rise And Fall Of A Budding Gigilo)
WHO'S GONNA TAKE ME HOME
(The Rise And Fall Of A Budding Gigolo)
(R. Stewart, K. Savigar, J. Davis)
Well I arrived on time
My courduroy suit and me bottle of wine
There were women wall to wall
It's Saturday night and I wanted them all
everyone
Sidled up for a dance
I tried a new step and fell in the plants
I told a joke, about the Pope
It wasn't as funny as I would've hoped
Nobody told me she was the daughter
of the mayor
I was so embarrassed, I just wished the
ground would swallow me up
Accidentally my elbow hit the record player
The rock 'n' roll stopped
and everybody just stared
(oh no)
Who's gonna take me home
I'm tired and I wanna go to bed
Who's gonna take me home
This party's gone right to my head
I didn't worry, not me
Panic ain't in my vocabulary
Smashed beyond reproach
Suddenly I wanted to take off my clothes
All hell broke loose
I started to take off my trousers and shoes
And so I tried to look cool
I stepped back and fell in the pool
The hostess helped me out
and asked for my dismissal
I said I was sorry, but I've been
under so much pressure
just lately, baby
I felt as popular as a Russian guided missile
The last thing I remember, I left with a girl
on a motor bike
That weighed three hundred pounds and
what's wrong with that
Who's gonna take me home
I'm tired and I wanna go to bed
Who's gonna take me home
This party's gone right to my head
to my head
I woke up on the floor
Still in my suit and she told me I snored
I never felt so cheap
I had a good laugh at the size of her feet
Holy Moses, I don't like this single living
I think I'll find me a nice local girl and
settle on down, now
With a home and a garden
and a nature quite forgiving
Then again maybe I'll just hang around
Who's gonna take me home
I'm tired and I wanna go to bed, right now
Who's gonna take me home
This party's gone right to my head
to my head
Now who's gonna take me home
Hey Brian could you give me a lift 'cos I don't live
too far from you, boy
Mary c'mon I've known you so long please give
me a lift home, oh c'mon
Jim oh c'mon boys would you just
give me a lift home
I don't live too far from here and I'm so tired

Show Tune #3
What a lovely matinee
intermission long enough
but it's snowing, now, the wind is blowing-
well, you get my drift,
Baby, can I give you a lift?
Your way and my way
go the same highway-
the cabbie knows a byway,
I don't, so do say, do say
Baby, I can give you a lift.
In the cab we'll gab
laugh and count the many ways
that life is like a Broadway play
you can bet I'll pay, I'm good for it,
Baby, can I give you a lift?
When you get home, bone-dry
you will invite me in
if you've a shred of decency
for a quick one, maybe, if,
Baby, I can give you a lift.
I'll say 'no, I've got to run-
oh well, ok, you win,
but, darling, have you any change'?
'Yes, I think so, hon'
and thanks so much for the lift'.
refrain
Cast off that umbrella
you don't need it anymore
just hop inside
Make me a happy fella!
funny how the weather
makes for such a pleasant ride
Hurry, the meter's running
Time is money, honey, ah,
it isn't even funny-nah
it isn't even funny.

Light Lift Me Up
Oh searching tired of love grown up, now it all falls out
Oh lovely dreamer - magic prince - swoop you up, swoop you up
But no no i, just one guess - man at all
While I grow up, came your way
Nobodys so special in this way, nobody to sweep you away
Oh light, oh light come and lift me up
Oh light please come lift me up
Oh sweet light come lift me up
When you go down remember your steps
As a baby rememberin how he walked
Rememberin all the sweetest dreaming you did
While you tick-tock along, but now all gone
Theres nothing here for your dream but hope in a song
Just like the bent back of an old woman that you know
Its all gone and severed and alone, so I rhyme
So now all you see is sad
All look the same as the wall inside
She feels swallowed up, she feels tired as she could
Creepin along this wall
And this wall its so long
Its a wall, and lips theyre alone
Sweet lips theyve lost their way a while
Like the bent back of an old woman
Whats true that way?
Whats true, hey way?
I came crying to you, came on me knees
Begging father lift me up please
But no as I came down, no flowered sound
Just emptiness in side me
Oh light lift me up, please lift me up
Come down and pick me up already
Forgive me all my selfish ways sweet light
Pick me up from my misery
Im gonna get away - Im back to you
The way that I do
The way that I picture you
The way that I picture you
Lift me up, from the bottom to the top
Lift me up, sweet light
Lift me up, from the bottom to the top
Lift me up, sweet light
Lift me up, bottom to the top
Lift me up, sweet light
Lift me up, from the bottom to the top
Lift me up, sweet light

Lift Me Up
I dont need your answered prayers
Or the chains your lover wears
I dont need your rings of gold
Or the secrets that you hold
Lift me up, darling
Lift me up and Ill fall with you lift me up
Let your love lift me up
I dont need your sacred vow
Or the promise tomorrow brings
There behind the morning clouds
Ill take the faith the daylight brings
Lift me up, darling
Lift me up, and Ill fall with you lift me up
Let your love lift me up
When the morning bright
Lifts away this night
And the light above
We will find our love, we will find our love
Your skin, your hand upon my neck
This skin, your fingers on my skin
This kiss, this heartbeat this breath
This heart, this heart this wilderness
Lift me up darling
Lift me up and Ill fall with you lift me up
Let your love lift me up

Lincoln County
Ive gotta get a train, take me back home again,
See my daddy, momma wants to see me too.
Im gonna see my momma looking through the window
At the station in the morning, been a few mornings since Ive been home.
Ive been doing wrong but now Im going home.
So come on girls, you better put your best boots on.
cause when I get home to lincoln county,
Wont know which way to go, Im gonna find all those pretty girls.
Im gonna find them all.
cause when I get home to lincoln county,
Gonna lift the lid off hell, drink some beer, Im gonna live it swell[? ].
Then Im gonna shout for more.
Well, I bought a new suit at the best pawn brokers shop,
Bought my ticket from money that I saved in jail.
I got a boot lace tie, I got for my pa,
I got a head scarf, fair, I got for my momma that she wont wear.
Ive been doing wrong but now Im going home.
So come on girls, you better put your best boots on.
cause when I get home to lincoln county,
Wont know which way to go, Im gonna find all those pretty girls.
Im gonna find them all.

Gonna lift the lid off hell, drink some beer, Im gonna live it swell[? ].

Let The Music Lift You Up
(troy seals, eddie setser)
Well you say youre from the city
Chicago is your home
Hey Im a country girl
Over oklahoma way
Oh there are miles and miles between us
But that dont mean a thing
When those guitars start to play
Oh sweet sounds of freedom
Ringing through the air
Sending out a message to us all
We dont have a curtain
Made of iron or stone
We are not divided by a wall
Chorus:
So come on tell me
Hey, hey, hey
From l.a. to broadway
Hey, hey, hey
Let the music lift you up
Hey, hey, hey,
Whoa everybodys singin
Hey, hey, hey,
Let the music lift you up
When youre feelin low
Hit that radio
Let the music lift you
Let the music lift you
Up, way up, way up
There are books that tell us
What makes this whole world turn
And how heaven holds the star wars
But theres no explanation
Lord its still a mystery
How a song can touch your heart
Repeat chorus
Let the music lift you
Let the music lift you
Up, way up, way up

I believe that u
I don’t know what to do with out you …. But
I believe that you will guide me to finish my work
I believe that you will take me back to my home
I believe if I hurt you then you will forgive me
I believe you will sweet like my sugar candy
I don’t know what to do with out you …. But
I believe that u will light my dark nights by ur moon
I believe u will relief my thirsty by ur rain
I believe u will send me ur sun when I need him
I believe u will always flow ur cool wind that I can take breath
I don’t know what to do with out you …. But
I believe u will always watching me from ur place
I believe u will lift up me when I will fall down
I believe u will make me that strong that I can lift up other
I believe u help me to let know other that u are with me

I Dare You To Move
Welcome to the planet
Welcome to existence
Everyone's here
Everyone's here
Everybody's watching you now
Everybody waits for you now
What happens next
What happens next
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened before
Welcome to the fallout
Welcome to resistance
The tension is here
Tension is here
Between who you are and who you could be
Between how it is and how it should be
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened
Maybe redemption has stories to tell
Maybe forgiveness is right where you fell
Where can you run to escape from yourself?
Where you gonna go?
Where you gonna go?
Salvation is here
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
Like today never happened

When a Consciousness Begins to Lift
When a consciousness begins to lift...
To leave behind foolishness that exists.
There seems to be an acceptance of it.
As if one realizes,
A birth has been committed.
When a consciousness begins to lift...
A release of limitations,
Easily takes a shift.
No longer is one concerned,
About winning conflicts with enemies burned.
When a consciousness begins to lift...
It becomes easier to observe,
Those disturbed and their afflictions addicted.
Enjoyed and unrestricted.
When a consciousness begins to lift...
It is best to rest.
And let it accept the truth,
That comes with it.
When a consciousness begins to lift...
Expect a shock and some loneliness.
When a consciousness begins to lift...
Those experiencing this,
Are left to feel estranged!
Alienated,
From that...
Which one had thought,
Was sane!
When a consciousness begins to lift...
Enjoy it as a gift.
Unveiling an abundance of understanding.
Connecting a peace that can be reached.
With a wish to share and treat.
When a consciousness begins to lift...
From those taught they should live,
With lives accepted in self defeat!

Summer 62 And You
That’s the last of school
for a while
she said
as you both descended
the school bus
and walked home
with her sister and yours
walking a small distance behind
any chance you could meet me later?
you asked
have to see
if Mother wants me
to do chores
she replied
maybe after?
you asked
she sighed
and looked up
at the late
afternoon sky
you caught her profile
and the way her cheek
was so kissable
and yet you didn’t
you just stared
have to see
won’t we
don’t want her
getting in one
of her moods
you walked on
in silence awhile
then she said
maybe able
to sneak out tomorrow
and see you
by the old pond
and you smiled
and you said
sure that’d be nice
but no funny business
she said
looking you
in the eyes
as if I would
you said
well Mother thinks you would
she muttered
looking away
so that her eyes
captured the horizon
and held it there
and you said
frankly Sweetie
I don’t give a dam or care
and she smiled and said
oh so very Clark Gable
and you both laughed
and she grabbed
your hand
and whispered
she just don’t understand.
