Don't Know When

Don’t know when
she said

but as she spoke
her breath rose

like cigarette smoke
in the morning air

and it fascinated you
more than the words

like when your father
blew smoke rings for you

as some kind
of cheap entertainment

but
she said

it will happen
I promise you

and your lack
of response

still gazing
at her breath rising

made her repeat
don’t know when though

and jabbed
at your chest

with her finger
oh ok

you said
coming back

to the moment
her blue eyes

fixed on you
the depth of them

like pools
of blue water

and oh how
to drown there

the thought arose
wanting the when

to be
as soon as

and the image
of her back then

with her eyes
and smile

and that way
she had

of bringing life
to a dull day

like some
top notch dancer

not knowing then
of her death

years later
of cold creeping cancer.

But She Knew

But I know
she said

that you love me
and you were sitting

by the pond
you with that cheap fishing rod

which caught nothing
and she sitting there

her hands over her knees
gazing at the still surface

even if you don’t
say it often

she added
laying her chin

on her knees
her green skirt

just above her knees
and you caught

a glimpse of her thighs
where the skirt rose up

I do you love
you said

holding the rod
between hands

it’s just I don’t see the need
to keep on saying it

you added
stretching your eyes

to go as far
as they could

to get a better look
and she said

why do you come here
to fish when you catch

nothing except a cold
in the neck

and stiff joints
and do you want a smoke?

She pulled out
a pack of cigarettes

and you let a hand free
from the rod

and took one
and she put one

between her lips
and lit it with a pink

plastic lighter
then lit yours

and you both
inhaled and exhaled

the smoke rising
over the pond

seeming to sit there
in the still air

and she said
between drags

I do know you love me
I can feel it

in my bones
and in my tingling

flesh at night
as I lay abed

and you thought
of that image

knowing her mother
would be about

the house
with her stern features

and sharp tongue
and beady eyes

but the image was good
you thought

sitting there beside her
in silence

with the drifting smoke
over the pond

and her hand
touching you

and the sky
turning from

dull grey
to a soft blue.

Judith and You and A Morning Mist

The morning mist
that hung over

the pond (or your lake
as Judith called it)

had moved away
by the time she came

and stood next to you
wrapped up in her

Sunday best
waiting until the time

for the bus to take
you both to sing

in the church
her breath flowing out

on the air
like cigarette smoke

her eyes focused
on the skin

of the still water
I dreamt of you

last night
she said

you and I
were snuggled

together in my bed
having made love

you watched
a magpie take flight

over the water
nice

wish I could
have been there

in person
you said

more breath
left her lips

and rose upwards
maybe next time

you can
she said

turning her head
spreading her lips

into a smile
just be my luck

your mother
will invade the dream

and catch us
you said

yes
Judith said

that would
spoil the dream

some what
there was a mist

over the pond earlier
you said

it looked beautiful
she turned

and stared
over the water

I missed that
as you missed

making love to me
in my dream

she whispered
drawing closer

her hands
taking hold

of yours
what did you

dream about?
she asked

an empty bed
and cold sheets

and a space
where you should

have been
you said

she smiled
and said

I couldn't be
in both beds

at once could I?
once more

there was the rising
of her breath

you couldn't tell her
you'd seen

an image
of her death.

Blue

Lay at my side and shut out the world
Warm this cold heart and wrap me in love
Pour magic into a space made for you
Lifetimes of longing are to live through
Blue blue blue blue blue blue
All of my life Ive hungered for you
All my lost days of dreaming are through
Riding the clouds on a mission of schemes
Now you are here oh how simple it seems
Blue blue blue blue blue blue
Blue is my world cold is my name
Love was my problem with no one to blame and you
Taught me how to see light shine in me
Light is reflected so easily
I said blue no more blue dont say good-bye
You leave me breathless with nothing to say
Turned me burned me and blew me away
And if you leave like a ghost without trace
This night of love means a world I can face
Blue blue blue blue blue blue
Holding you close timeless together
Heaven just spoke freeze this moment forever and
All other images fall from my eyes
Love you have come to me straight from the skies
I said blue no more blue
I said blue no more blue dont say good-bye
I will always know that love can live

Who's Stronger? You Or Me? (Give Up Smoking poem)

Some try to gave up smoking, reducing Cancer's grip -
Avoiding the future choking as health conditions slip.
My father died some time before and I remembered well...
For Cancer's curse we daren't ignore - it's like a witch's spell!
One day there came a change of heart... The weed outlived its joy.
Though once thought elegant and smart, the heart it can destroy.
Yes, heart and lungs, our breath, our life, our essence here on Earth!
Why risk the pain, the grief, the strife? Is that what we deserve?
I saw my father's picture through the smoke that I exhaled...
This man died, aged seventy-two - at last his strength had failed.
I held the cigarette on high, and asked dramatically,
A bold decision drawing nigh, 'Who's stronger? You or me? '
From that day on, I changed inside - now smoke's not in my eyes!
What use is strength if not applied? Yet when it is... it's wise!
Fifty-a-day! And then no more! A change of heart, indeed!
And with this poem I implore... Give up the gruesome weed!

Back To Insomnia

back to sleeplessness
i come to you, and we talk a lot till morning
no coffee or smoke, just plain talking
and i have lots of things to share with you
my lost boyhood
so much time has been wasted on so many preparations
what father wanted what pleased mother
what made grandpa proud
and things too personal that to you i could only tell
how i wish i can go back to bed and have a nice sleep till noon
but i am simply a kind of a sleepless man wanting to talk to you
and here you are
wanting what i am and listening
too much interest in what i am saying and what i have to say
this loneliness
and guilt and
this wish for death

i could tell you like me, but how can i ever hold you
you are around me, words and words, and images and empty spaces

Vagabond Of The Western World

I could tell you the story of a vagabond
A playboy of the western world
One day by chance he came upon
A fair young maid, a country girl
He told her that he loved her
And he took all of her silver
He told her that he needed her too
He said hey baby, you got eyes of blue
But he was a vagabond
Blue eyes, oh baby blue, oh blue eyes
The kind of eyes that say I do eyes
Oh baby blue, oh blue eyes
Oh baby blue, oh blue eyes
He roamed around the cities
Searching for his fortune and fame
No lady ever got to know his name
Shame, but that was his game
Gave a girl a baby boy
He said this child is my pride and joy
Im busy running wild and free
Make sure he grows up like me
And Im a vagabond
Blue eyes, oh baby blue, oh blue eyes
The kind of eyes that say I do eyes
Oh baby blue, oh blue eyes
Oh baby blue, oh blue eyes
Oh I could tell you a story of a vagabond
He was a playboy of the western world
He wore an earring in his left ear
You see his father he was a gypsy
You just might meet him upon the highway
Pretty fine dancer too
But hes leave you blue, hed leave
Hed leave you woman

Boy Blue

Hey boy blue, cant you hear all the noise, its for you.
All the towns waiting there, let us go.
Theres a show like you aint seen before.
Weclome home, where you been all these years, look around.
All the crowd is in tears,
Its so good to see you in the streets of your town
Chorus
Hey boy blue is back.
Hey boy blue is back.
Hey boy blue is back.
Hey boy blue is back.
Hey boy blue is back.
Hey boy blue is back.
Ive seen bold knights, dropping down like flies,
Ive seen kings, rolling in the mire,
Ive seen god, point the finger of doom to our foes.
I have fought in the holiest wars,
I have smashed, some of the holiest jaws.
Ive been jailed, been impaled, and been dragged through the world.
One thing, I have learned through these years,
Is that no man, should be stricken with fear.
It should be that he walks with no care in the world.
So my friends, who are gathered today,
Hear this clear, for Ill not further say.
That no amn, shall cause me to take up arms again.
Hey boy blue is back.
Hey boy blue is back.
Hey boy blue is back.
Hey boy blue is back.
Hey boy blue is back.
Hey boy blue is back.

The Death Penalty

Bring back the death penalty screamed a lady as the blood ran, dripping from the cold concrete as her sons blood fled from its body. Bring back, bring back the death penalty screamed a mother as her child dies slowly watching the pools of life fade away from his eyes.

Bring back, bring back the death penalty screamed a mother while she watched her child being killed by the hands of another man, bring back the death penalty.

Bring back the death penalty as she screamed holding her dying child while he laid his last words and breath upon her chest. Bring back the death penalty she screamed in mercy so that she will so that she will no longer have to hold any more of her dying sons and lay them in graves before she lays in her own.

Bring back the death penalty she screamed as her sons soul left his body and he became another victim to a violent society. Bring back the death penalty, bring back our sons.

Gone

Thoughts filling my mind,
Heads gonna explode,
Close my eyes,
Feel the cold pain,
Hold my breath,
Don't let go yet,
Keep it all inside,
Slowly difting away,
And never coming back,
To reality at least,
Only for a moment,
But soon taking it all back in,
Gasp...heart beating faster,
Opening my eyes,
Take it all in,
But never wanting to go back and do it again...

Elsa and The City View

Elsa sits on the edge
of the roof of the building

smoking a cigarette
her thoughts on Bolright

her feelings on the downside
her get up

in the morning
and have a good look

out on the city
still intact

the stone on the rooftop
is warmed by the morning sun

and warms her butt
and thighs

and so what
she thinks

if he doesn't
come back again

what the heck do I care
I had a good time

had a good night
the bed rocking some

the Miles Davis CD
oozing from the hifi

rising in the air
and he was a cool lover

had that way about him
that make the most of

this baby because
you won't feel

the same again
kind of sensation

and she looks
at the passing traffic

the ant like people below
the smell of the city

the sensation
of the warm stone

beneath her
the warmth rising

through her skin
the touch pretty much

like his
but softer

more gentle
and she inhales deeply

on the cigarette
sensing the smoke

against the back
of her throat

sensing it take up
in her lungs

and thinking of him
trying to remind herself

of each moment with him
the touches

the kisses
the sex

oh yes the sex
and she exhales

the smoke
and laughs to herself

as if remembering
a private joke.

Promise Made And Kept.

She stood looking out
Across the small lake
With the late afternoon
Sun reflected in the water
And you beside her your
Hand in hers the sound of
Rooks from the high trees
A slight breeze touching
Tall branches and she said
Softly this is our lake this
Is ours to view and sit beside
And be together and promise
Me you’ll not come here with
Another she said looking from
The water into your hazel eyes
Promise me that and cross your
Heart and hope to die and you
Saw the two vivid reflections of
Yourself there in her bright blue
Eyes and you said yes I promise
I’ll never come here with another
And cross my heart and hope to die
And you never did even after she
Died of cancer and the lake you
Think has her there standing now
Gazing ghostly across the water’s
Skin thinking maybe of you both
And those days of love and youth
And both of you sitting and kissing
Beneath the vast sky’s blue roof.

Blue Depths Of Your Eyes

Some blue eyes trap me in their depths,
Some blue eyes shine as crystals in darkness,
As i gaze at them fascinated and charmed,
I am melting in the blue depths of your eyes.

And when your eyes burst into tears,
I am seeing the ocean in them,
I am feeling like a boat that sails without veils,
As if i have lost my compass and spinning into the abyss.

I stare at those gorgeous blue eyes and cannot stop,
I fall to their power like i am hypnotized,
Radiating beauty and wisdom from their depths,
I feel trapped and happy in the blue depth of your eyes.

In A Breath

Life is only one breath after another,
We are the ones who control our breaths, not oneanother.
A breath is all it takes,
To make a breath.

In a breath you could stop,
In a breath you could drop,
In a breath anything could happen,
In a breath anything could happen.

Life is the journey down a pathway,
Of which stones are breaths that show you the way.
A path to eternity, to forever.
Where you shall stay forever and ever.

In a breath you could die,
In a breath you could fly,
In a breath anything could happen,
In a breath anything could happen.

Tomorrow is yet a turn,
A turn you may not reach, but only a breath can determine,
You don't know when your final turn comes.
You do not know what you will become.

In a breath you could win,
In a breath you could sin.
In a breath anything could happen,
anything could happen.

Life is but a breath,
Air is but a breath,
In life you will find the truth,
And find air is the proof.

In a breath you could find nothing,
In a breath you could find everything,
In a breath anything could happen,
In a breath anything could happen.

You travel down a river,
Where bubbles are breaths and you are the giver.
The giver of ripples, of currents,
Of which for endurence.

In a breath you could loose,
In a breath you could choose.
In a breath anything could happen
In a breath anything could happen.

Follow the river of dreams to the sea.
This is eternity you will see.
Breath avery breath,
As if it were your last breath.

In a breath you could sail.
In a breath you could fail.
In a breath anything could happen,
anything could happen.

An Ode to Greybeard

After leaving the convenience store, we smoked cigarettes insatiately, and were approached by a man with a long grey face, pink from the chilled wind.
Homeless, the man made due with a pile of jackets.

Spare a cigarette? He asked, like clockwork. And received what he bade for.
Without breaking his sight of his caretaker's eyes, he bit the filter out of the end and inhaled so deeply, he must have drank the smoke.

Thanks, pal - crept out from under his mustache and snuck by his cigarette.
His eyes turned slowly to meet mine and were as grey as his beard.
- Remember me when I die

He spoke also - with his eyes.
And mine spoke back - he knew I would
A legacy is only memory.

Misty Morning, Albert Bridge

I dreamt we were standing
By the banks of the thames
Where the cold grey waters ripple
In the misty morning light
Held a match to your cigarette
Watched the smoke curl in the mist
Your eyes, blue as the ocean between us
Smiling at me
I awoke alone and lonely
In a faraway place
The sun fell cold upon my face
The cracks in the ceiling spelt hell
Turned to the wall
Pulled the sheets around my head
Tried to sleep, and dream my way
Back to you again
Count the days
Slowly passing by
Step on a plane
And fly away
Ill see you then
As the dawnbirds sing
On a cold and misty morning
By the albert bridge

Ode To Smoke

Ahhh you who do not exist,
come so that I may say goodbye to the melancholic smoke of mine,
the cigarette aches from too much smoke,

Only If….
If only you were smoke
I would have kissed you every moment,
you would have been more nearer to me than myself,
you, warm, milky, dense
passing through my mouth, vanishing in my chest…..

Crying As An Art Form.

Mother made act of crying
An art form; she knew
Sense of tears on cheek
And leak from blue of eyes.
Father would have his way
Of bringing on the tears in
Her, making the blue eyes
Red, bruising the cheek of
Bone and flesh, making an
Art of bringing black and
Blue in such human skin.
You recall once the time
He slapped her cheek with
A back of hand for making
Remark in jest: you look like
A Yank with that camera held
So. You never could divine how
Love could have altered form
And made a mockery of care
And concern and deepest sense
Of being well and other’s need
Of being needed here and now.
You think that Father lost it if
He had it ever at all. Some how.

poem from frances R. (1)

i sang a sad song last night and they all liked it.

i rested for a while on that soft chair on that table by the corner
like a very lonely stranger.

i listened for the singer after me with his guitar singing another
love song.

not for me but for all of you.

i smoked my marlboro cigarette and breathed out some smoke like what
the rest were doing in that crowded karaoke garden,

a tissue was passed, i looked at it on a pinlight
i would be singing again another sad love song as requested by all of you

that time it was the song that i had written myself four years ago
i had given birth to two lovely daughters then when their father left them

i took my guitar went on stage and started to strum and sing
a song i had written years ago, some memories rushing back to me

all of you were silent then with your glasses of wine and smoke
holding hands to your girl or man on your side pressing some
soft flesh and felt the sad song of love creeping like a vine in the air

you waited for the moment when i will cry again
lights and eyes focusing in my eyes

i didn't cry anymore on the stage as you saw me once crying.
my tissue was wet with tears just a moment ago when i sat like any
stranger on that table beside an empty chair.

it was dark on that nook.

I Blew A Kiss

My heart is filled with so much love
Suddenly, there is heaven in my heart
The bells are ringing in the sky
Sounds like a symphony

So I blew a kiss on a wind
Scattered into the fields of love
That sways together with the four leaf clover
And flew into the petals of rose
Just close your eyes,
Feel the love that dances to the music of sunrise

I hear laughter at the morning skies
On were the morning sun has begun to rise
As a golden fire scattered at the meadow
Like this love arose as a morning glow
That is woven from thin air
Embroidered by the sunshine and rain

I blew a kiss in the rain
And put some sunshine on your way
To hold your fears to cast them away
For you to keep safe and warm
If the wind blows and shadow appear,
I blew a kiss to help you find the smile again

I blew a kiss on water from the spring
That flows on the ocean of the stream
Take a ride on a wave of love
My heart will flow like a river to the sea
And glide deep within your soul.
To bathe your tears and pain

You walk into this feeling
Like a rainbow that colored my day
Like a cloud that has passed my way
As a wind that dip within my toes

I blew a kiss at the rainbow sky
As a promise that brings you a smile
Sprinkle magic in your eyes,
Come to me and hold me
And you will see
A love that I had painted on a blue sky

I blew a kiss at the stars
In this darkest hour of the night
Whisper wish on their shinning light
In a vivid twilight that sparkle in your eyes
As holding dreams that never die,
Just close your eyes forget all the sorrow

Beautiful Blue Eyes

Blue eyes so full of life
A wonder all of their own
So beautiful and precious
Oh to see those eyes smile
Such a beautiful sight
How I love to look into those eyes
When I look into them
A kind of peace comes over me
Beautiful blue eyes
Always haunting me
...teasing me
Reminding me of what I want...can't have
Why do they haunt me so
When will I be free of them
Constantly held captive by those blue eyes
Beautiful blue eyes
Always there
A reminder of what I want...can't have
Such beautiful blue eyes
Beautiful blue eyes...
