Time Rules Carved Out Empire Journeys

Darius I of Persia earlier standout stars;
having attacked conquered Ancient Egypt
built a canal linking his Persian Red Sea?

To the Mediterranean through desert sands;
Darius's canal wide enough for two triremes
to pass each other with all oars extended?

Required mere four days to canal traverse;
history turns Persian Roman Empires are extinct?
No Eastern Roman Empire now time rules?

Hookywooky

Im standing with you on your roof
Looking at the chemical sky
All purple blue and oranges
Some pigeons flying by
The traffic on canal streets so noisy
Its a shock
And someones shooting fireworks or a gun
On the next block
An-an-and, I wanna hookywooky with you
I wanna hookywooky with you
The traffics so noisy its a shock
Sounds like fireworks or a gun on the next block
Ah, hookywooky with you
Your ex-lover satchel is here from france
Yet another ex
They gather about you like a mother superior
All of you still friends, but -
None of my old flames ever talk to me when things
End for me they end
They take your pants, your money, your name
But the song still remains
An-an-and, I wanna hookywooky with you
Ah-ha-ha-ha, I wanna hookywooky with you
Then they take your pants, your money, your name
But the song still remains, sayin -
I wanna hookywooky with you
Youre so civilized it hurts
I guess I could learn a lot, ha-ha...
About people, plants and relationships
How not to get hurt a lot
And each lover I meet up your roof
I wouldnt want to throw him off, mmmmm..
Into the chemical sky, down into the streets to die
Under the wheels of a car on canal street
And each lover I meet up on your roof
I wouldnt want to throw him off, mmmmm..
Into the chemical sky
Under the wheels of a car to die on canal street
Ah-ah-hi, I wanna, ah, hookywooky with you
Ah-huh, huh-huh-huh-ah
I wanna hookywooky with you
I wouldnt want to throw him off into the chemical sky
Down into the streets to die
Under the wheels of a car on canal street
Under the wheels of a car on canal street
Under the wheels of a car on canal street
Hookywooky
Under the wheels of a car on canal street
Hookywooky
Under the wheels of a car on canal street
Under the wheels of a car on canal street
Hooky-hooky-hooky-wooky
(under the wheels of a car on canal street)
(under the wheels of a car on canal street)
(under the wheels of a car on canal street)
(under the wheels of a car on canal street)

The Auld Triangle

A hungry feeling
Came oer me stealing
And the mice were squeeling
In my prison cell
And that auld triangle went jingle-jangle
All along the banks of the royal canal
Oh! to start the morning
The warden bawling
Get up out of bed, you! and clean out your cell!
And that auld triangle went jingle-jangle
All along the banks of the royal canal
Oh! the screw was peeping
And the loike was sleeping
As he lay weeping
For his girl sal
And that auld triangle went jingle-jangle
All along the banks of the royal canal
On a fine spring evening
The loike lay dreaming
And the sea-gulls were wheeling
High above the wall
And that auld triangle went jingle-jangle
All along the banks of the royal canal
Oh! the wind was sighing
And the day was dying
As the loike lay crying
In his prison cell
And that auld triangle went jingle-bloody-jangle
All along the banks of the royal canal
In the womens prison
There are seventy women
And I wish it was with them
That I did dwell
Then that auld triangle could go jingle-jangle
All along the banks of the royal canal

Canal Walk

..canal walk with taytay and rayray…..

We are sitting here together
Me, my grandfather and my brother
We’ve been out all day
Walking the canal and snapping away.
The ducks and the swans paddled
The barges and canoes slipped by
There were chirping and buzzing
From the creatures, even in a birds beak was a fly
We’ve had some dinner and some
Ice cream, cake and chicken in between
The only thing left to be said
Is, ”right boys…time for bed.

Empires

Empires
On the ancient road I hear roman soldiers’ footsteps, all roads lead back to an empire;
and nothing has changed the poor die in the service of their masters. The Romans took
the elites sons of country they wanted to dictate sent them to Rome trained and sent
them back and they had vassal state. It didn’t always work, loyalty became resentment
and uprising, the kept kings demanded more power. The new empire is doing the same,
sends sons and daughters of the elite, in countries they want to control, to Harvard, we
get the royal household of Jordan. Sometime it backfires and we get Osama Bin Laden.
All empires must fall it’s written in the stars, their outpost Israel, is a sacrilege, losing her
humanity. I hear tired Roman soldiers marching on roads their foes will take when they
come to crush them. Iraq is a civil war waiting to happen, Afghanistan is a lost cause and
Pakistan will never submit to foreign dominance. I hear the footsteps, the new empires’
soldiers, the urban poor, have been promised glory, and shiny medals, as always they die
for a dream not theirs. The ghosts of roman soldiers marches on through the centuries,
nothing has changed in two thousand years.

Alexander The Great[356 - 323 Bc]

(harris)
My son, ask for thyself another kingdom,
For that which I leave is to small for thee.
Near to the east, in a part of ancient greece,
In an ancient land called macedonia,
Was born a son to philip of macedon,
The legend his name was alexander.
At the age of nineteen, he became the macedon king,
And swore to free all of asia minor,
By the aegian sea in 334 bc,
He utterly beat the armies of persia.
Chorus:
Alexander the great,
His name struck fear into hearts of men,
Alexander the great,
Became a legend mongst mortal men.
King darius the third, defeated fled persia,
The scythians fell by the river jaxartes,
Then egypt fell to the macedon king as well,
And he founded the city called alexandria.
By the tigris river, he met king darius again,
And crushed him again in the battle of arbela,
Entering babylon and susa, treasures he found,
Took persepolis, the capital of persia.
Chorus:
Alexander the great,
His name struck fear into hearts of men,
Alexander the great,
Became a God amongst mortal men.
A phrygian king had bound a chariot yoke,
And alexander cut the gordion knot,
And legend said that who untied the knot,
He would become the master of asia.
Helonism he spread far and wide,
The macedonian learned mind,
Their culture was a western way of life,
He paved the way for christianity.
Marching on, marching on.
The battle weary marching side by side,
Alexanders army line by line,
They wouldnt follow him to india,
Tired of the combat, pain and the glory.
Chorus:
Alexander the great,
His name struck fear into hearts of men,
Alexander the great,
He died of fever in babylon.

By The Sweat of Your Brow

Giving me too much time to consider that
I am not going home:
Snails on my shoulders in their little houses:
Roman candles pointed earthwards toward
The canal-
And I am in a place they thought may not
Have existed-
And they burn effigies of broomsticks until the
Candles become sauce and gravy,
Until, sometimes, the midnight works,
And you can float underneath her as a little boy
Going up and up into a chimney
While yards of aerobuses circle beneath you
And the magic is in your armpits:
And the magic is by the sweat of your brow

A Lunatic Lady

Along the canal bank
And harvested field,
She roams, with a mind
That had slid from its rail.

Her muddy skirt
And brownish hairs
Flutter in the salty wind,
Like the flags of insanity.

Lonely nights, fire burns
On the distant banks;
Wind smell does tell
She barbecues canal fish.

"During the windy seasons,
Lunacy is let loose" -
Her night shrieks and shouts
Are thus neglected in village logic.

Her stomach swells like our morality
That drowns and swells, day by day,
With myriads of questions
To be answered by Time.

Mini Dubai

Silvered canal sprawls with a smile of wisdom.

Like a tamarind seed, my town nicknamed Mini Dubai
Burgeoned, then branched on Kanoli canal bank.
To come up to their own town, busy pedestrians step down
An ancient bridge of imperialism built by the British.

As the traffic lights have lost the eye balls,
A potbellied police man dances and controls.
Jalopies groan, and modern cars whiz.
A long whistle: ambulance with the wounded
And van with a wedding party halt side by side,
As the southern and northern hemispheres of
Emotions meet at a single point, by chance.

Among the concrete buildings seethe under the tanning rays,
Splurging women whirl in the hurry wind. Stink of sweats
And aroma of Arabian perfumes choke the air in the shops,
Where, sometimes, chicanery and dupery peek through the glassed.
To the government offices nearby, applications drafted in blood
And salt scurry only to get the obsequies in the waste baskets.
The sots creep like snakes in the yard of Sandra Bar.

Nostalgic smell of canal mud sops in sizzling tang from a cafeteria.

Two love birds kiss
On the high bough of the tamarind:
Fluttering of natural mirth –
Paradise is in the height.

A crow sits on electric post and watches all beneath with a smile of wisdom.

Leading You Astray

Bad people,
Power cuts!
Aspire,
Inspire,
Milk and honey,
Sugar and tea,
Survival of the fittest! !
Strength,
Change, challenge!
And, it took place in her room twice.
The 4th Empire was the Roman Empire!
The 4th Beast was the Roman Empire! !
Drones, thrones, stone;
Like the great sword with eyes all over it,
but, your uncontrolled lust is leading you astray.

The Word Walks Across Centuries

The Word Walks
moves upon bridges
vibrating spun light.

Someone once said
Jesus Christ
could not come
centuries earlier
to speak the word
to inspire spread
his Gospel Message because...

Jesus Christ
born of
immaculate conception
human embodiment
of divinity
needed Roman Roads
to walk upon?

The Apostles his Disciples
needed Roman Roads?
To spread Gospel Teachings
parables taught by Jesus Christ?

Really?
Alexander the Great
needed no such roads
to conquer
an entire know
ancient world
new worlds beyond.

Alexander Companions
on horseback
his soldiers marching
in phalanx formation on foot
conquered faster further
than any other king military
leader in ancient world.

An invasion incorporating
scholars, map markers,
geologists, historians,
scientists of the day.

An invasion of military
conquest discovery learning.
Alexander needed
no paved Roman Roads.

Jesus needed no Roman Roads
to build bridges of light
spanning mountains
Himalayas of pagan belief;
to plant seeds
toppling an empire
of ancient slavery
atrocity barbarianism.

Roman Colosseum
abhorrent abomination crime scene;
nearly four atrocious centuries
of state sanctioned mass murder

millions of humans
animals slaughtered
entire continental species
speared into extinction.

Roman Colosseum
fell before the word of God;
divine catalyst of change
Telemachus an Egyptian monk

objected to bloodshed, savage slaughter,
shame of lust depraved entertainment.
In the name of his God Jesus Christ
shouted for cessations discontinuation...

standing between slashing swords
standing a monk in dark brown dress
holding up his hand to his One God
keeping back the blows in God’s name...

a leap of faint onto life
draining red sands
an arena of victorious death

stoned martyred by outraged mob
in three days Emperor decreed;
cessation of gladiatorial games.

From antagonistic
to pacifistic;
Christian religion
morals principles

values prevailed
the steps of St. Peter’s,
reused stones of
quarried Colosseum marble.

Euphrion’s Son

On the Plain at Marathon
We stood in Darius’ way.
An outnumbered band of Athenians
who the Medians sought to slay.
They had first crushed the Ionians
Then put Eretria to the Torch.
Wherever Darius conquered
the bleeding earth was scorched.

Our Hoplites held the high Ground
and penned the Persians in.
For several days a stalemate reigned.
Neither side could win.
But when the Persians spit their force
and sailed on a friendly tide.
Our hand was forced
there was but one course
if Athens was not to die.
Our Phalanx moved against each wing
of the Median horde.
Though numerous, they were lightly armed
against our spears and swords.
We burned their ships and slew their men
Their Panic turned the tide.
Aeschylus seemed to be everywhere
urging on our side.
A Legend holds Pheidippides
To Athens then made haste
to proclaim: “Rejoice, We conquer! ”
at the end of his last race.

The Paychecks Of Lost Men

Dying figments unsuited for these hours
Sit underneath the dabs of wasps,
Or at the corners of her cheek where she lives:
In the pornography of rusting cars,
Or at the sad confines of the canal:
Floating along in her trailer park underneath
The washout heavens of those
Billboards trying to sell their god to the highway-
When she smiles, a long ways off,
She can see her children even if they cannot
Recognize her- and it is her art form to do this,
And to sit beautifully alone,
Pleasuring herself as if she believed in ghosts:
Like my own childhood where I remember sitting
With my mother and reading books
Underneath skyscrapers and landmines of sunshine:
Or leaning over to see our doppelgangers in the
Canal,
The tadpoles swimming with the paychecks of
Lost men: reticent to transform,
They remain in my childhood long after I have gone.

A Night At The Roman Gates

The third and the last fourth quarters, made no sound at all
The first and the fourth parts built up a sound upon an old wall
There were scaffolds of gold, traces of all riches beside the fallen towers
It’s the first night at the Roman gates: the last finders are counting the lost hours
The night swift as broken spears, the beats gather into one symphony of delight
Now God watches all this closely in silence and repose
With the Jews and Gentiles sharing a common space upon the history close
Silence prevails in cold shatter: the mood is lost through the art of these ciphers
The senators walk around in silence, building up tumults of joy to all the lifers
It’s a night at the Roman gates: the moon await in splendor and in vivified sight
History walks around tombs of ancient queens, paving words on golden wings
Still memory sweeps this silent night, and places owned before by ROMAN Kings
