Now very often events are set up for photographers... The weddings are orchestrated about the photographers taking the picture, because if it hasn't been photographed it doesn't really exist.

Paparazzi
Paparazzi, cant make the man.
Paparazzi, cant break the man.
Next to the transit lounge
See the paparazzi tears.
No-one came in today
From boston or tangiers.
And in departures ---
Only faceless trippers trip,
Loaded with duty free
Held in white knuckle grip.
Snap it up, flash away ---
Steal a camel for a day.
Break the story in heavy type ---
The news is running late tonight.
Be-decked with nikon necklaces
Hear the paparazzi cries.
Under their noses walk
The famous in disguise.
Conspicuously huddled there
But no-one stops to look.
Theyve got their crayons out
To colour in the book.
Snap it up, flash away ---
Steal a camel for a day.
Break the story in heavy type ---
Paparazzi wont be home tonight.
Paparazzi --- write it down.
Paparazzi --- turn it around.
Paparazzi --- take it, fake it,
Break it.
'cos its a story.
Now someones cut the lines
Communications down.
All photo film is fogged.
Celebrities surround
And jab their fingers at me.
They kiss but I cant tell.
Even poor paparazzi
Must have privacy as well.
Snap it up, flash away ---
Steal a camel for a day.
Break the story in heavy type ---
The news is running late tonight.
Snap it up, flash away ---
Steal a camel for a day.
Break the story in heavy type ---
Paparazzi wont be home tonight.

I think the greatest photographers are the amateur photographers who do it because they love it. Arnold Newman is a good example; he is a consummate professional, but he's also an 'amateur' in the pure sense of the word.

Schoolboys In 1939
Once I saw a black & white photo
taken by a Japanese tourist
of London schoolboys
walking briskly to grammar school.
No planes over London yet,
although German troops were blitzing
through Poland that September afternoon,
and Warsaw schoolboys were
running pellmell to bomb shelters,
Jew and Christian alike.
Grainy photos taken on Polish soil
by news photographers
were of victims dead and dying.
The photo of English schoolboys
was of victims yet to be!

They often ask me to shoot for them. But I say no. I think an old guy like me ought not take pages away from young photographers who need the exposure.

Celebrity (Fun Poem 135)
Imagine if I was a celebrity
with lots of photographers following me
and I laid on a private beach somewhere
to catch the sun in the buff.
Now just imagine what they'd see,
wrinkles from head to foot
and great big batch of grey hair,
balding in the middle.
I wonder what would happen
if they took a photograph of me?
The camera would have a fit
and the photo would be classed as pornographic.
Everyone would start to wonder
where the heck did that alien came from.
Alas, you can breathe again
and say thankfully under your breath
I am glad he is not a celebrity.
However, who knows
what tomorrow might just well bring.
I could win the lottery
and become an instant celebrity.

Why Ist It That Way?
Artists who draw cartoons are cartoonists
Musicians who play bassoons, are bassoon-ists
Players of violins are violinists-flute players flutists
Then why aren’t drummers drum-ists?
Could the writer of Haiku be a Haiku-ist
Or the rider of a bike a bike-u-ist?
Why are linguists not language-ists
Or photographers photo-ists?
Who conjures these very English-isty rules list?
Most probably an English lingu-isty fool-ist

To Speak Or Not To Speak?
social contexts
public blunders
entrapment potentials
contrast expectations
when I've said too much!

context carefully consider this?
explore image fixation artists
spaz set in spotlight comments...
love primary paradoxes
mystery more is less
pulling potent stories
picture portrait contrast
sitting lost in shadow corners
paparazzi media out of sight
genuine personality private
versus intense public spotlight
interior exterior dialogues...
speaker is actually famous
trendy celebrity performer face
caught pants down or on red carpet
paparazzi blitz frames in spotlight

metaphor for unknown unseen out about
paparazzi nose tease pout delivers

paparazzi pride dissects best tidbits...

In France we have a law which doesn't allow the press to publish a photo that you didn't approve. It lets the paparazzi take the picture, but if they publish this picture, you have the choice to sue the newspaper. So me, I always sued them.

Stalk
some get penalized
for stalks,
stalkers not
allowed here
and you are
warned.
what are stalks
anyway?
why should
we dislike
stalkers?
come to think
of it. Hold the stalk
and let your
fingers run
towards the
flower.
Feel the petals
and smell
the scent.
now you are
a stalker.
