Now Is Your Finest Hour?

This year is done
never to return?
What was achieved
what did we learn?

Decide about your years?
What judgement will mean?
When score years tilled end
what next around the bend?

All those amassed years
you have within your power?
When God takes your time
will it be your finest hour?

Within beloved God’s arms
do you wish to be taken rest?
Ultimately when race is run
who truly wisely lived for best?

If exhausted relax
upon what laurels?
Honour victory now achieved
tastes of thorn worn morals?

You have we know already
paid a steep high price?
This life price will you really
live it but once or twice?

If you are squeezed
if you lack life energy?
From where do you energize
from alcohol drugs revitalized?

You need peace now?
What do you need now?
This is your last hour?
Where go you now how?

It Isn't With Ease

It isn't with ease,
A success accomplished is achieved.
Nor is one 'lucky'...
To experience with initiative AND sacrifice,
With a doing what one does...
Day and night.
And continue to do,
Whatever it takes for most of one's life.

While witnessing others doing what they like...
To then decide they have changed appetites,
For something someone else has done.
With beliefs their requests should be prioritized,
By the one who has sacrificed most of their life...
To finally see after years realized.
It isn't with ease,
A success accomplished is achieved.

'How long did it take you to do what you've done? '

~I would say...
Maybe fifty or more years.~

'Seriously?
And you can't show me,
In a few minutes how you did it?
I aint got that kind of time to waste.'

~Time, patience and tears.
And criticism from peers.
That's what it takes,
My friend.~

'Well...
Like I said.
I aint got time for all that.
I gotta get my groove on.'

~Until it's gone,
Huh? ~

'Whatever.'

An Unresolved New Year

At the hour of twelve on New Years Eve
When the old year turns into the new
Thoughts turn to what the future holds
And what goals we should pursue.

At the hour of nine on New Years Day
Or some time thereabouts
We wake with great reluctance and
Those resolutions start to doubt.

At the hour of ten on New Years Day
When we start to feel our age
By then we've written lists of things
That will benefit through change.

At the hour of twelve on New Years Day
When things start getting clear
We find we've hid that list away
To return to in one year.

A Flower with years

Like a seed
I began in the open firmaments of the heavens
battered by the very elements of nature
to make me strong
in a milieu that
oppresses, dictates, and abuses
but I’ll rise'
like a flower, I bloomed with light’s rays
like a flower, I was groomed by years
like a flower, I unfolded with grace
like a flower, I am the living years
but watch and see'
I’ll be your treasure because of these years

I see me with years -
a cistern that absorbs the days
then
replace them with experiences
a price not paid with a few years
so I murmur not
because of these years
yes
I am these years
but I’ll rise'
like a flower, I bloomed with light’s rays
like a flower, I was groomed by years
like a flower, I unfold with grace
like a flower, I live in years
but watch and see'
I’ll be your treasure because of these years

I’m
crafted in hurt, misery and pain
A price I paid for younger to listen and fear
yet they see this not
yet I’m not perturbed because of these years
but I’ll rise'
like a flower I bloom with light’s rays,
like a flower I groomed by years
like a flower I unfold with grace
like a flower I live in years
but watch and see'
I’ll be your treasure because of these years

I Paid The Price

See notes below
Well Im sick and tired
Of your alibis,
And your indiscreet lies
Just wont get you by,
Over and over and over and over again.
And your family,
Your forced superiority,
Your azure delusions of grandeur,
Are gonna cut you free,
Over and over and over and over again.
Youre as cold as ice.
Ahh, youre not miss nice,
And I paid the price.
Ahh, you can count me out.
Oh, without a doubt,
I paid the price.
And up and down, round, round you go,
But you know one monkey
Dont stop no show.
Its plain to see
Youre in need of help,
But I just cant go on
And whip myself
Over and over and over, over again.
Ahh, you can count me out.
Ahh, without a doubt,
You know, I paid the price.
Ahh, youre not miss nice.
Youre as cold as ice,
And I paid the price.
Yes I did.
You know I did.
And I just wanna know
Whos your sponsor.
I just wanna know, oh,
I just a-wanna know, oh,
I just a-wanna know, oh,
Whos your angel.
{backup singers} [i paid the price.]
Sing the song.
[i paid the price.]
[i paid the price.]
[i paid the price.]
And dont discriminate your angel.
[i paid the price.]
And dont discriminate your sponsor.
[i paid the price.]
And be good to your angel.
[i paid the price.]
Bow down to your angel.
[i paid the price.]
Hey, hey!!
[i paid the price.]
Dont discriminate your angel.
[i paid the price.]
And dont discriminate your angel.
[i paid the price.]
Dont discriminate your angel.
[i paid the price.]
Dont discriminate your sponsor.
[i paid the price.]
Bow down to your angel.
[i paid the price.]
Bow down to your angel.
[i paid the price.]
Bow down to your angel.
[i paid the price.]
Uhh, be good!
[i paid the price.]
Be good to your angel.
[i paid the price.]
I tried for to blow it. (? ? )
[i paid the price.]
I tried for to blow it (? ? ), one more time.
[i paid the price.]
I tried for to blow it (? ? ), one more time.
[i paid the price.]
If you blow it one more time, I say,
[i paid the price.]
Oh, youre as
Cold as ice,
And youre not miss nice,
And Ive definitely
Paid the price.

Ell Briddley

Ell Briddley she knows of the hard side of life
For many years she has been a battered wife
Her late husband Jake often bashed her and their only child Joe
He succumbed to cancer some five years ago.

Her twenty years of marriage one might say tough
And of marriage she feels she's had more than enough
The reason is not hard to understand why
That she will not give marriage another try.

At her husband's passing she did not shed tears
She feels her life with him were sad wasted years
Her son Joe is married in a distant town with a one year old son
And she feels quite proud of how well he has done.

Ell Briddley she is fifty seven years old
And for her years she is attractive to behold
To a few proposals of marriage she has said no
She is one who will not give marriage another go.

Ell Briddley is a happy woman today
And the single life seems to suit her okay
For falling for Jake she paid the bitter price
And now she will remain as single by choice.

Taste

it is a matter of taste
years of bitterness
cannot teach you
in a day what sweetness is

years of searching
cannot give you an hour
of a solution to the problems
you are grappling with

you mellow down through the years
what tastes so sweet to them
in your discriminating expertise
is never sweet to you

you keep a glass of your favorite concoction
the one that makes you live
she takes the courage of taking a sip
her face changes and she vomits

what makes you live is always
the exquisite taste of bitterness
the one that strengthens your mind
and that makes a lot of difference

Diamond Mountain

Wind blows.
Rattled an invocation
two thousand years old
from bronze temple bells.

Brushes a susurrus
from ten thousand oak leaves.

Draws from their branches
the moaning
of two hundred year old wood,
the dry sound
of a long forgotten oboe.

Causes a seventy year old man
on a slatted bench
to tug a scarf across his chest.

Wind drops,
and slips back
into eternal silence
of measured decay.
Wind undefiled
speaking in many voices.

Diamond Mountain is
one hour high,
one hour wide,
one hour deep.
Every hundred years
a small bird comes
and rubs its beak.
When the whole mountain
is quite worn away,
the first second of Eternity
has passed.

What Price So High Should One Agree To Pay

What price so high should one agree to pay,
That comes to sacrifice one's life away.
What degree of devotion is determined fits,
The giving one does...
With no return to replace any of it.
But remaining one does,
Attached to prove it to exist.

What price so high should one agree to pay,
To satisfy those judgemental.
As if it is known,
What a loyalty takes by those ready to critique.
Those without a discipline,
Or an intgerity instilled within one to keep...
Faithful.

What price so high should one agree to pay,
If the price one continues paying,
Is not to others valued.
Or observed to them to have worth,
With a benefit that visually impresses...
To measure up to the ever changing presence,
Of a quality of life fading from precious standards.

Git Down

It hurts inside to know all the times
We have ever had cried
To keep away the reasoning of why we lied
It only lead me down a lonely road
And strange of fates as a world to
A new and different time or place
To live away the time of day so we can race
Exactly what we choose not to believe
CHORUS:
Happy was the day we met
Never could I ever for you
I know too well not to stay
We paid our price turn our head
Close our eyes and sacrifice
Excuses of love
That once was warm has turn to ice
But only leave me cold and so alone
Now memories of years and fun
Can only turn my eyes to see
All the good that's been undone
But I believe we're lucky just to learn
From what we were
Chorus
Memories of years and fun
Can only turn my eyes to see
All the good that's been undone
But I believe we're lucky just to learn
From what we were
Chorus x 5 (fade)

As Christ Strengthens Me

Through Jesus Christ you can achieve more than anyone could believe.
Much for mankind can be wrought, if we look to that old rugged cross.
I can do all things indeed, through Jesus Christ, who strengthens me.
His Glory is what’s achieved, as He moves the heart of the deceived.

On the cross He paid the price to give believers the mind of Christ.
When we confront the unkind, He gives believers a Christ like mind.
And when we deal with bitter hate, the love of Christ will compensate.
Tough decisions when they come are handled with The Spirit’s Wisdom.

In turmoil heartaches cease, as He fills me with unfathomable peace.
His will becomes my desire, as He walks me through the purging fire.
In the toughest times we can trust what Christ’s Blood has done for us.
And even in the darkest hour, we receive from The Holy Spirit power.
He fills you with His Spirit of Grace, when you’re in a miserable place.
Christ goes with us in each fiery trial, comforting us without denial.

Life on earth isn’t the whole story; for we are being prepared for Glory.
Once reluctant and so coy, and now a bold witness filled with joy.
He fills my heart with strong desire that goes far beyond this earth.
This points to One much higher, Who offers to all men a new birth.

He lifts away today’s sorrow by putting fears and worries far behind.
And He helps me to embrace tomorrow with security and peace of mind.
I become a living sacrifice pointing men to the return of The Lord.
For He who paid the ultimate price has much more for all in store.
In The Spirit one can perceive what many today can not comprehend.
So we can point those who are deceived to The Truth about the end.

On Himself

A wearied pilgrim I have wander'd here,
Twice five-and-twenty, bate me but one year;
Long I have lasted in this world; 'tis true
But yet those years that I have lived, but few.
Who by his gray hairs doth his lustres tell,
Lives not those years, but he that lives them well:
One man has reach'd his sixty years, but he
Of all those three-score has not lived half three:
He lives who lives to virtue; men who cast
Their ends for pleasure, do not live, but last.

Thirty three years

Thirty three years
~
Soon I turn thirty three
And wonder what I have to show
I feel I have achieved very little
And have been going nowhere fast
I fear I am stuck in my ways
And this is my lot for life
I sit alone in writing this morning
With my usual coffee for one
I have loved, had my heart broken
Let opportunities slip away
Now I tend to do nothing
At least I wont feel hurt that way
I have spent time in solitary
And lost touch with the world
Please try and remember that
To excuse my lack of social grace
The pace of each year is picking up
While I am still young in some eyes
Still may yet have a lot to achieve
I look at the past thirty two years
And see myself an old man
Lonely and turning thirty three

The Dying Ex Football Champion

Around his bed his friends and family but of them he's not aware
His life's journey about to end old Joe the ex footballer player
On his back his eyes closed to his surroundings the life from him ebbing away
Last month he celebrated his eightieth birthday and today his life's final day.

Pre-deceased by his wife Mel she died five years ago
The last two years of his life's journey for him painful and slow
Most of those he played with and against in his football years to the Reaper long gone
But like the battler that he is to the end he's battling on.

Fifty five years ago the Captain of the great Premiership team
By football fans from near and far he was held in high esteem
But time takes care of everyone and everyone means all
And time has also taken toll of the champion of football.

Around his bed his friends and family a silent vigil keep
The end of his life's journey no more than an hour away he is in his final sleep
'Tis a fact those who love life do find it hard to die
But 'tis also a fact that all human beings are mortals and facts do never lie.

The Gift Freely Given

Verse 1:
Our Lord in His mercy gave up His own Son.
He gave us the promise that heaven is won.
Of what did He ask; for Christ resurrection?
Except we follow His word without question.

Refrain:
The gift freely given was paid at a price.
The cost was God’s innocent Son’s perfect life.
E’en though it is over; the death of God’s Son,
The gift has been given, the victory won.

Verse 2:
The sin of this world came through Adam and Eve,
And left through our Savior in whom we believe.
Our sins are on him; through his life’s perfection,
And ever shall be through his resurrection.

Refrain:
The gift freely given was paid at a price.
The cost was God’s innocent Son’s perfect life.
E’en though it is over; the death of God’s Son,
The gift has been given, the victory won.

Verse 3:
The Lord in his glory looks down from above,
And sees His church filled with the people He loves,
We still live in sin; our lives are in pieces,
Yet His perfect love for us ne’er decreases.

Refrain:
The gift freely given was paid at a price.
The cost was God’s innocent Son’s perfect life.
E’en though it is over; the death of God’s Son,
The gift has been given, the victory won.

Without The Lord

To live one day without The Lord, is one day you cannot afford,
To live this life on your own, without the Power from His Throne,
While your life God shall fill, with the Spirit’s Power, per His will,
As God powers your daily life, when you walk with Jesus Christ.

For you it’s not a great sacrifice, as The Lord has paid the price,
When He died for you and me, on that bloody Cross of Calvary;
Where He died, for sinners like us, and all we have to do is trust,
In His finished work, on the cross, paid by Christ for sinners lost.

Christ had suffered all the pain, to grant to believers Eternal gain,
He grants, when we truly believe, when The Holy Spirit we receive,
His Spirit of Wisdom and Power, providing us each day and hour,
Being our teacher and our guide, as God’s Spirit now lives inside.

The Spirit goes before us every day, as we walk life’s narrow way,
Supplying strength for life’s race, as He guides us place to place,
In times of trial He grants peace, that from Christ, shall not cease,
With His presence and His light, that overcomes the dark of night.

We gain all this and so much more, when we know Christ as Lord,
With the best, still yet to come, as we labor for Christ’s Kingdom,
God’s Kingdom that has no end, with Christ as our Eternal Friend,
So before you let this day depart, allow the Savior into your heart.

Winners Take All

Life's been good
Life's been bad
Now I know
What I had
Has taken it's toll on me
Yes we give
And we take
What we get
Is what we make
Believe that dreams come true
Life is crazy
We're not fools, no, no
The price is high
When you keep the score
Take your souls
And your goals
To the top
Together we stand
We won't take no more
Cause we're winners
And winners take all
Together we stand
We won't take no more
Cause we're winners
And winners take all
We have loved
Burned by fate
But for once
Set the record straight
Time does heal all wounds
You have laughed
We have cried
Paid our dues
Yes we're turned the tide
Mistakes are far and few
We need no guidance
Our aim is true
Down the road
There were many tolls
But we know
Cause we've grown
What we need
Together we stand
We won't take no more
Cause we're winners
And winners take all
Together we stand
We won't take no more
Cause we're winners
And winners take all
The price is high
When you keep the score
Take your souls
And your goals
To the top
Together we stand
We won't take no more
Cause we're winners
And winners take all
Together we stand

I Walked Last Night In A District I Lived In For Almost Twenty Years

I WALKED LAST NIGHT IN A DISTRICT I LIVED IN FOR ALMOST TWENTY YEARS

I walked last night in a district I lived in for almost twenty years
I came back after being away for a time
To visit an old and ailing friend
The streets were empty and lonely as they often were then-
I thought for the first time I understood how lonely the district itself is-
‘A lonely district’
I wondered how I managed to live there all those years
And how anyone still manages to live there-
I looked up at the sky and wrote in my mind a small poem of a kind I wrote many of in my years there
I remembered teachers and friends who had lived there
No longer of this district or any district on earth
I wondered how life goes and how from so many years so much life has been lived without having any place in my memory
I felt as empty inside as the district without
I did not have to wait long for the bus
And relieved inside it I put my heart to home
So many years had been lived there
I remembered taking my small children to the playground there
Now they thank G-d have children of their own
Oh the years go by and the life we have lived in them largely dies
Forever to be unknown again-
I put my heart and mind in a different direction
And began to do what I always do – not think of the district again
Life is this mystery and question we live through and never wholly possess even as we are experiencing it
How long before all will be gone for me
Including the district I live in now?

One Year

What's in a year?
We watch it disappear.
Its days go by.
They seem to fly
into the ethers of the past.
A year too swiftly
does not last.
And yet each day within the year
contains within it
every single minute
where your life is resolute
and filled with purpose.

A year is not just calandar days
to be scratched off one by one.
When you do this it's then you find
you miss out on its fun.
In a year one can learn
to appreciate the time you have
to be among the living,
the time you have for giving.
In a year you learn about power
that allows you to fill each hour
with everything you love.

What's in a year?
All things new that can appear,
things you've never given thought to,
things in life you want to do.
Before the year has gone away
see before you each new day
and as the year meets its end
be one who can say
'This year has been my friend.
It gave me solace, gave me peace
and it gave me the chance to release
Pain.
