Anna Hazare and Corruption

anna hazare and fight against corruption
crowds pour in thousands
to see actors for their glamouur
to politicians to blindly support their falsities
to so called saints to revere their false robes
to orators mesmerized by the web of words
to singers to melt in their melodies-
but all has its own limits of assemblage
as most of them lack universal appeal
as most lack truth and sincerity of the deliverers'
as most of them are dishonest and self-serving-
the surging crowds gradually peter out-
the crowds would easily sense their purpose.
but, here is a man, though diminutive
stands colossal among giants of politician cheats
to crush them all under his mighty feet-
he, unlike others, lives a truthful and simple life-
a real soldier of the army in action fronts
a whole village testifying his service in broader light-
a man committed to a cause dear to all and sundry-
an epidemic that sucks the life of common man
at every level at every step of his daily life-
which gets the stick at lower levels if at all found-
but has become a way of life for those at top-
with law a powerless prisoner in their hands-
their bank accounts growing obese in foreign lawless banks-
courts devoting energies to favour with loopholes-
but this man's intention is pure, selfless,
taking clubs to smash the head of corruption
putting it behind bars on life-imprisonment
leaving none in the process however mighty his job may be-
as now the constitution is just a laughing -stock
since its dictum that all are equal before law is unenforceable-
he fights that this untouchability to be given boot-
he yields to nothing that are diluted-
no selfishness but tries to lift the whole country on his shoulders-
he believes he can; yet he is not a man of empty words-
a man of firmness, caring not for his life, nor his name
sullied by filthy politicians, facing bullets of falsehood on his chest-
people sense the true spirit of this little man
who can speak only a language of conviction
and so rushes to storm the evil of corruption
now centered at the gates of parliament
under the care of self -centered politicians under every hued flag
making empty noises and resorting to fist fights of arguments
turning deaf to the symphony of cries against corruption-
the times look like the days of french revolution -
probably the politicians fear that prisons might be insufficient
if they enact this janlokpal bill in stringent content
and may be that fears that they may end up in prison soon-
this man with indomitable spirit is 'anna hazare'
a real replica of the frail man of the nation we forgot!

Anna Hazare A strong old man Fights corruption For the people Of his country

Anna Hazare

A strong old man

Has taken the nation

By storm

Fights corruption

For the people

Of his country

Lives in a temple

Without a family

On others mercy

With meager means

Politicians see him

As an enemy

Afraid of being caught

Corrupt deeds

Getting exposed

People at large

Support his mission

Of honesty

Pray to god daily

Honesty overtakes

Corruption finally

Brings smile

On the faces of people

Of his country

The Anna Hazare Phenomenon (India's Anti-corruption Struggle)

A man in his mid-seventies
A freedom fighter veteran
Fights against a mammoth vice
’Tis Anti corruption!

Alone he fights and defies
The Government for his fast;
He can’t have his ways with ease
Nation watches aghast!

Freedom for a freed nation!
That’s what most people want;
Gone too high has corruption;
People join with a chant.

Democracy does not work,
Riddled by problems great;
Voters turn almost berserk;
Politicians, they hate.

Why give mandate for corrupt?
Let people introspect;
Struggles should not peace disrupt,
The law, we must respect.

The old man will not give up fast;
The bill must involve all;
People unite more than in past;
It is a clarion call.

Yet, no one is above law;
The issue is too big;
No law made is without flaw;
‘A wig remains a wig! ’

One can’t stall the Parliament;
Democracy must win;
A large nation’s one big lament
‘Just root out corruption! ’

The problem is so colossal;
The government’s in a fix;
All expect a miracle,
That needs a magic mix.

Quick victory is not in sight;
The menace must be curbed;
It requires the people’s might;
No use being perturbed.

People from all walks of life
Join Anna Hazare;
Corruption is big a strife;
Vijay ho, hamare!

Dear Annaji, End Your Fast Fast

So far so good, you’ve led the movement well!
’Tis time, you thought about your precious life;
A rigid attitude can’t hasten things;
Allow some natural time to get things done.

Getting tougher when people soften stands
Could complicate the problem you fight for;
Please end your fast before your health worsens;
All want a good man like you to live long!

Corruption has been happening for years;
The problem can’t be stalled by just one bill;
‘You’ve risked your life enough’; so, end your fast;
Your fasting more can’t speed up things from now.

Respect the Parliament and those in it;
They’ve promised you that they will do their best;
Good that you fought for such a noble cause;
India is proud of Anna Hazare.

A beginning is good for anything;
The bill can be made stronger in due course;
Stop your protests; recoup your health, Anna;
‘All well that ends well, ’ the saying goes.

You’ve kindled patriotic feelings in all;
You’ve raised a key issue – corruption;
India can’t stand corruption anymore;
The good work you have done, all Indians know.

Calm down; cool down, Anna Hazareji!
Too much of anything may worsen things;
Your health is wealth of India, you please know;
Bring down the tempo of your protests, Sir.

Give up your fast, allowing time for things;
Procedures take their course quite naturally;
Your half-won victory will bring full success;
We Indian brethren love you, Annaji!

You should not risk your life any longer;
The country needs you hale and hearty, please;
So, end your fast and thank God, Hazare;
Your bill will come through, vijay hamare!

Long Live Anna and Indian Democracy!

‘The passing of the bill
will prove that people’s will
Can make the nation ill
To climb corruption’s hill! ’

Anna has won through his marathon fast
A spectacular victory for all;
His Lokpal Bill has finally been passed;
Fast will be off; He set rolling the ball!

All MP’s also performed well their part;
They showed the world that Parliament’s supreme;
The people’s needs were paramount in heart;
They worked to realise the people’s dream!

The Anna Team had done too fine a job;
They helped Hazare all ways through his fast;
They were well encouraged by huge a mob;
They worked in harmony until the last!

The Resolution Anna asked had come;
The Anti-corruption bill will make it;
The happy end’’s more than hearty welcome;
The fast had become terrific a hit!

The war on Corruption is just begun;
’Tis the beginning of a struggle long;
The struggle long ought to always go on;
The country men can sing a happy song!

Long live the sacrifice of Hazare!
The aged man is hero without doubt;
The Anna Team has become bright thare;
On day twelve, they managed to win the bout!

The support ends the battle just for now;
A lot of things are to be done henceforth;
All showed their unity and country’s love;
The Bill will change the future giving mirth!

Long live Anna Hazare! Long live Indian Democracy!

Anna Hazare – a short auto-biographical poem

He went to commit suicide;
But didn’t, due to God’s grace;
On two occasions, almost died,
And put on a sad face!

God saved him from a bullet hit;
A road accident too;
His health had remained always fit;
He lived for me and you.

He read some books by leaders great;
Gandhiji and Bhave;
Vivekanandha changed his fate;
Meaning to life, it gave.

‘To live for others’ sake’, his aim;
He served his fellowmen;
He won awards, laurels, acclaim;
He grew in wisdom, ken.

The welfare of the common man
Became his desire prime;
He laboured hard throughout life-span;
Prayer became past-time.

He thought about his Motherland;
Could he change farmer’s lot?
He got his own following band;
He stemmed the nation’s rot!

Corruption was the main issue;
The poor man suffered most;
The affluent did lucre woo;
Progress became a ghost!

So, Anna started a crusade,
To bring the Lokpal bill;
The constituents, he had laid;
Indeed a task uphill.

No giving up, till bill is passed;
‘The fight’s on, ’ says Hazare.
Huge crowds throng venue unsurpassed;
‘I’m Anna, ’ pukaare!

No one can tell how things will end;
The people’s call is clear;
How far will politicians bend?
To most, money is dear!

India’s ‘I’m Anna’ Movement

With eagle’s eyes
And staunch a mind
And heart of love
For common man

A Gandhian true
Fast undertook
None could predict
Repercussions.

He donned a cap
And kept vigil
For twelve full days
On mere water.

He scared the rich
Men in power
Who misuse it,
And cheat the poor

He minced no words
spoke out his heart
in plain language
to all Indians.

His wake-up call
was clear and firm
Corruption should
end in India

A Bill must come
In Lok Sabha
To include all
Both high and low

Jan Lokpal Bill –
He authored fast,
And broke his fast
When promise came.

This was Anna,
An Indian,
Whose one good thought,
New Freedom got.

He showed the world
That corruption
Should be contained
For nation’s sake.

His act was brave
And defiant
Till success came
By polity.

This was the start
He aimed for now
Fight will go on
On more issues

Anna was great
His slate was neat
He was simple
And most humble

He shook India
On ruin’s verge;
He convinced crowds
That came to hear.

A new Gandhi
A modern one
Who wars with hearts
That destroy peace

His arrest, fast
None can forget
His stamina
Aided his feat.

‘We need to change
All things around,
And common man
Needs faira share.’

Jan Lokpal Bill
Would do the trick –
The game-changer
That people want.

The Parliament
Saw well his cause,
And passed a good
Resolution.

Anna made it:
His plan had worked;
His fast pulled off
A victory!

His win was great,
Exemplary;
He changed the fate
Of polity!

He moved a sea
Of Indian hearts
Within, abroad,
Uniting all!

Oh, what a way!
Oh, what a win!
Non-violence
Had won most hearts!

“No scams or shams
No shame or blame,
No corruption,
In people’s rule! ”

'Democracy,
If good, will be
The ideal form
Of governance!

Where power comes
From people’s votes
And corruption
In shackles stays!

God bless India
God bless Anna
God bless Lokpal
God bless all men.'

The Fight Against Corruption

The country cannot bear it anymore;
The vice has gained in-roads to every sphere;
Corruption rules the roost in daily life;
The weed has grown much better than good plants!

The common man’s the most affected one;
Corruption stays in forms, guises galore;
Taxes are worse and thanks to corruption;
No one is happy with the pay he gets!

Cheating has turned to be the way of life;
Stealing is not a crime for corrupted;
Corruption is the prime cause for price-rise;
The big cheats thrive despite the stricter laws.

Progress has been stifled by corruption;
The hand is used to get bribes all life-time;
The tongue speaks lies with ease and variety;
The time has come to root out corruption.

But who will fight this social evil great?
The few who try are not perfect at all;
The honest ones who try don’t make headway;
The beast is live and loitering afree!

The shark no longer stays in deeper seas;
The ice-berg’s tip can’t be made out these days;
The roots are stronger, gone too far and wide;
The habit’s now second nature of man!

No nation can go on in this fashion;
The good that’s done is undone by this bad!
A popular uprising is the answer;
But good leaders are not an easy find!

Fasting is not the way of doing things;
Violence only begets violence with time;
A lot of patience is needed to fight;
Unite must souls, hearts, minds to curb menace.

Real progress comes if corruption’s less;
Most people are fed up with how things are;
A renaissance must soon stem this vice fast;
Just righteousness can win over evils!

’Tis time to fight corruption in all ways;
Perseverance will tilt the balance soon;
A lot of sacrifice is essential;
The victory is a priceless gift to man!

Lokpal Bill Debate

The nation’s people wish him ‘all the best
May God grant Anna Hazare good rest
Lokpal debate will end victoriously
The resolution will come out grandly

Thanks to efforts by Anna in this way
Corruption henceforth will be held at bay
India cannot afford to lose its wealth
More than a billion need good food and health

All hope day twelve will end Anna’s fast fast
Indians’ sufferings will be a thing of past
The Lok Sabha will deliver its goods
Let people come out safely from the woods

All honest people thank Anna for his
Great fight glorious, exemplary, with bliss
He gave his heart and soul to fight this crime
He did so well but did not have much time

The act of valour will be etched in gold
In time’s history, related and retold
Like Gandhi, Anna has done great a thing
Anna is the Anti corruption King

India can progress faster here after
The common man can live with smiles, laughter
The love of lucre will abate a lot
Because of second Freedom, Anna got

Kudos to Anna Hazare, the Great
Who changed common man’s miserable fate!
May Anna Hazare live long with health
He is the Indian nation’s priceless wealth

‘I’m Anna! ’ - Movement: Poem on Corruption in India

The poor become poorer each day
The rich turn richer every way
Corruption is the cause that may
Prevent a nation’s progress, Aye!

Corruption rules the world in ways
Indiscernible yet, always;
The common man’s heart, mind and face
Reveals the menace in each case

Corruption wears so many masks;
The corrupt in lucre’s sun basks;
All accept it and no one asks,
‘Why burden-some turn daily tasks? ’

Corruption has gone too rampant;
It runs amok like an elephant;
The poor man’s life is like an ant;
Mass rallies slogans only chant.

The war to curb corruption’s on;
Good youth in India have been born;
The people get gleanings of corn,
While sheaves in rich men’s homes adorn.

Corruption’s the cause of price-rise;
Share-markets play a game like dice;
Taxes have grown mammoth in size;
A tax-payer ashamed then dies.

Which leader will then stem this rot?
– Democracy is badly caught;
The fight must be much bravely fought
Till freedom after Freedom’s got!

Towards a Corruption-free India

Cleanse the nation’s democracy;
Cleanse the nation’s bureaucracy;
Cleanse the nation’s polity;
Cleanse the nation’s authority.

Cleanse the nation’s systems’ machinery;
Cleanse the nation’s judiciary;
Cleanse the nation’s property;
Cleanse the nation’s ill-gotten money.

Let people’s power permeate the Parliament;
Let there be accountability of all citizens;
Let the poor and down-trodden be never ignored;
Let India become rejuvenated.

Bring back the wealth kept outside the land;
Enact laws for the welfare of the Motherland;
Act with responsibility and amity with all;
Console the aggrieved, comfort the dying.

Put the mighty nation on the road to progress;
This is no place for vices and evils of all kind;
Install a sense of security for all;
Infuse morality and patriotism.

Those voted to power must be clean;
Those in authority should not be mean;
Those in high office should not demean;
The future should belong to the youth and the teen.

Enough is enough, rethink on everything;
Corruption is the main issue to be curbed;
The law-makers should not be the worst law-breakers;
The law should serve the purpose it is meant for.

Let’s create a new India where peace prevails;
Let’s make our country prosperous;
Let’s work with zeal and honesty;
Let hearts be filled with sensibility and sensitivity.

The nation with a billion must forge ahead;
The nation should be truly independent;
The nation must regain its former glory;
The nation must be freed from corruption.

Thanks to Anna Hazare’s yeoman service and mighty efforts!

Space In The Workplace

i gave up my space in the workplace.
economic struggles and despair
are being seen everywhere.
retirement used to be somthing seen
and with this economy it's just a dream.

you work hard all your life
and go through the struggles and strife.
just to see your dreams shattered
and to the politicians it does'nt matter.
they've already lined their pockets
with corruption and graft
and thought forever it would last
and now that will be part of the past.

there is a new sheriff in town
and he won't let his guard down
he has seen enough from people he met
and now he is out to get
all those who have accepted bribes and kickbacks
and he won't ease up the slack.

this space in the workplace that we have lost.
to the politicians will be an expensive loss.

now that the people have gotten up and spoken
this chain of corruption will be broken.

so to these politicians i say 'beware'
you better run and hide in fear.

the economy will get better, this i know
but! it will be going very slow.

so till then we'll have to tighten the belt
for this is something we all have felt.

An Indian Dream Comes True

The war against corruption has begun!
It cannot end in scheduled time in years;
A beginning that’s good is work half-done;
But thanks to Anna, his Think-tank and seers!

Corruption is ingrained in people’s hearts;
The weed has grown wide-spread throughout the lands;
It can’t be wiped away, despite efforts;
It needs a change of attitude, strong hands!

Corruption is a love for easy wealth;
No one’s immune from habit that’s so rife;
The habit gains every person by stealth;
It hurts the poor, down-trodden’s heart like knife!

United, war against the menace works;
Democracy needs cleansing from its sores;
When left as such, society, it well irks;
It enters houses, homes by windows, doors!

One Bill cannot contain the rampant strife;
All citizens must fight the habit, crime;
Nevertheless, it can improve one’s life;
Only then, nations progress with more time!

Corruption is not something with a cure;
Beyond a point, we need not it endure;
Nevertheless, many hearts it does lure;
The menace can be mitigated, sure.

The Genesis of Nigeria

The genesis of our country Nigeria starts,
With a blessing of abundant resources and culture
Where evil starts to culture,
This strangles the country,
Which gulps for air,
In despair,
All we do is just stop and stare.
A country where a single law can not hold
Where human rights can not be told
Is it only me that finds this a bit cold,
Where hospitals turn down dying people,
All because they lack money,
The patients die in agony.
Damn! Is it only me,
That sees this reflection of hell in our country,
Politicians rob us of both or happiness and money
Jesus Christ!
Our politicians are pulling of a killer heist
What is happening to our education?
Why is it in this condition?
Children balancing in the fulcrum of corruption and misconception
The ever so smiling Corruption runs free and reeks havoc in our nation,
Destroying the moral values of our tradition,
How could a country be like this, it is not easy for my mind’s digestion,
But I do have a suggestion,
Establish an incorruptible law and legislation,
That will become our economy’s standing constitution,
And fuel it with the morals of our tradition,
Make education available to the children who want to learn,
So they will have future, which they desperately yearn,
Politicians Forget about Nigeria’s domination,
Be in the nomination,
That will bring to this nation,
A new revelation,

The Crusader Against Corruption

The politicians are mindless
about the opprobrium heaped on them
for their misdeeds and corruption.
Politics is an open-sesame
to criminals and the cunning
for fulfilling their ambitions.
An overdose of bribes has made
public life servile and squalid.

When the courts order to attach their wealth
and detain them in prison, they make a fun of it.
' God has already ordered a one-two punch to me
to give my wealth to the poor
and go to jail for a public cause', they say.
The votes of people with nous
don't decide the winners in these obscene elections.
The votes of the illiterates and the votes
clicked in stealth choose the victors.

When the government is gripped in the hands
of the opportunists of parties one after the other,
the rich buy the posts of officers in hidden auctions.
The middle class bargain for clerical jobs.
The sons of the poor join the gangsters and smugglers
who run a parallel government, colluding with
the politicians who live for uplifting the poor.
The poor women need to trade in open market or the nets.

The people are ossified to stretch hands
to grab the freebies and graft, and sell their votes.
Ouch! why this Anna Hazare, the last surviving crusader,
goes on an outdated fast dreaming for a change?
He can't provoke a public outcry against corruption
with the outfits of graduates and tottering old men.
Will his message reach the illiterate ocean in rural hamlets
when the T.V. channels are owned by the demagogues?

Just One Man – One Indian, Anna Hazare - Icon of anti-corruption!

One man had stirred the hearts of Indians;
One man gave hope anew for men who yearned;
One man fasted for days for country’s sake;
One man thought of the big vice, corruption!

One man fought a war for sake of justice;
One man sought non-violent means of protest;
One man aimed to lock horns with affluent!
One man blamed the laws for deficiencies!

One man challenged the unfairness of laws;
One man questioned men in authority;
One man united Indians for a great cause;
One man sowed seed of patriotism.

One man talked tough to leaders, bureaucrats;
One man demanded for a Lokpal Bill;
One man arrested was released promptly;
One man gained a device to tune the rich!

One man made Indians renounce corruption;
One man awoke all against corruption;
One man instilled love for the common man;
One man fuelled a new revolution!

He Is the Indian Gandhian, Anna Hazare by name!

Today

What's happening to our country,
don't we learn from bygone days?
We once blindly followed religion
who used God to manipulate our ways.

Deception and corruption are the key words
they've been used since day one.
As people we follow the so called good shepherds,
who charm and cheat everyone.

Can we honestly believe what we are told,
are politicians really so gullible and half soaked?
Or do they have something personal to gain
as an incentive not to rock the boat?

At election time they make us promises,
which are forgotten when they get in.
Laws ought to be passed to jail political liars,
but any such proposal would be a sin.

So whichever way we look at our situation,
as a nation we are well and truly f***ked.
Politicians will forever spend our money unwisely
on economic failures and cover ups.

Corruption in India

In the sacred land called Bharat
Corruption has become a habit.
From top brass in authority
To the lower sections and aam aadhmi!

But the menace has gained strong roots
Into every sphere and profession;
All the good that is being done
Is offset by corruption.

Blame corruption for many evils
And vices that plague society;
It is the cause for democracy
Being unable to deliver its fruits!

It is reason for rich becoming richer,
And the poor turning poorer;
It is the cause of price-rise,
And taxes exorbitant!

It is why black-money grows
And black-marketing prevails;
This is why India remains quite poor,
And under developed among world nations!

If only corruption can be curbed,
India will become a paradise;
A billion souls can live in peace,
And prosperity will dwell upon all!

Thanks to one great Indian soul,
Anna Hazare for awakening Indians
Against corruption – root cause of poverty!

Politicians Vavroovahana Patra

Politicians exploit the people of the country;
Hoarding money, remain in palatial building with delight.
Poor people die with plight;
Politicians say India is a country of prosperity.

Without providing food to the poor entertain day and night;
Do not feel all are sons and daughters of Almighty.
Widow laments for food day and night;
The family remain in hunger with plight.

Politicians forget their ideology of sacrifice;
Remain away Divine Bliss.
Entangle in bribe and corruption;
Enhance society’s tension.

A good politician thinks upliftment of society;
Derives peace observing poorman’s smile and delight.
A good politician derives peace serving the patient;
Lives in peace with merriment.

Good politician is blessed with Divine power;
God blesses him with peace, pleasure.
Service to human beings is service to Divinity;
All are sons and daughters of the same Almighty.

Politicians - (Villanelle)

the politicians make their plans
while lawyers all review their cases
and corporate money changes hands

make policies for foreign lands
as media promotes their faces
the politicians make their plans

in words nobody understands
speeches made from well known places
and corporate money changes hands

while noisy crowds and marching bands
assemble in our public spaces
the politicians make their plans

and as the voter base expands
pollsters all predict the races
and corporate money changes hands

keep kissing babies, greeting fans
phony handshakes, false embraces
the politicians make their plans
and corporate money changes hands
