Pursuit
The Lord travels in all directions.
The Lord arrives from all directions at once.
Wherever we are, we find that He has just departed.
Wherever we go, we discover that He has just arrived before us.
Thomas Merton, No Man Is An Island
I try to catch you,
sideglancing
facing forward to see
your heels flashing fire
in the shimmering red sea.
I gaze into night,
desiring sight
of your dancing eyes.
I whisper, I sigh,
but you elude,
ahead always,
always behind.

No turning point
Up ahead I see
the sky and sea
on the horizon
becoming one.
The blue into blue
fading into each other
and you and I
are looking
from the window
of a airplane
as if we can fly.
Roads turn, twist
and cross
and run in all directions
and nowhere
I can find
a turning point
that brings us
back to each other.
The warm touch,
the breath on my cheek,
the magic of eye
dissolving into eye
are broken with tears.
After this flight
our travels will go on
into different directions
and from my life
you will be gone.

Once More Into the Fire
Once more into the fire, my Lord, once more into the fire
Another one calling to be saved, Lord, what shall I do?
Therefore to offer help I go once more into the fire
Once more into the fire, my Lord, once more into the fire
I can't save her with my own two hands, Lord, what shall I do?
To offer her your strong arms, Lord, once more into the fire
Once more into the fire, my Lord, once more into the fire
What of the others who won't call out, Lord, what shall I do?
Pray for them and call to them, Lord, once more into the fire
One last time into the fire, Lord, once more into the fire
I see You reaching now out to me, Lord, what shall I do?
Take your hand to climb out, Lord, nevermore into the fire

Pacific Highway
Tryin to make it back
To my old home town
Ive been driving since
The break of dawn
Got a feeling like a fever
Burning in my brain
When I see her
Itll be all gone
Pacific highway
Getting nearer now
And I feel like
The dream is coming true
Pacific highway
Getting closer now
I dont need directions
To find my way back to you
Take another turning
On the old creek road
Making sure I dont get lost
Im hoping to hell
My tacos reading right
Get ahead no matter
What the cost
Tryin to take it easy
On the old home stretch
But city limits come into sight
Im getting ready for my betty
God how I missed that girl
Were rock-n-rollin
Through the night
I dont need directions
To find my way back to you
I only got five more miles, yeah
Only four more miles, yeah
I only got three miles, two miles
One mile to go

Two Different Directions
This song appears on three albums, and was first released on the different directions album, and has also been released on the a portrait and the john denver collection - annies song albums.
They say they love each other
Ive no doubt they do
They say theyll always be together
That may not be true
They come from different places
Different points of view
They find themselves in different spaces
Everything is all brand new
Two different directions
Too many different ways
One always on the road somewhere
The other one always stays
Too often unhappy
Too often on your own
When you are moving in different directions
True love is all alone
Old stories start to surface
Patterns from long ago
And loving quickly turns to anger
For reasons they dont even know
The strongest heart can be broken
With one insensitive word
The deepest feelings remain unspoken
No one is seen and nothing heard
Two different directions
Too many different ways
One always wants to work things out
The other one wants to play
To ready for changes
To much that just cant wait
When you are moving in different directions
True love can turn to hate
If opposites attract each other
Whats the reason for
One being like an open window
One just like a closing door
Two different directions
Two many different ways
One likes to see the morning sunrise
The other one sleeps in late
To many tomorrows
To many times too late
When you are moving in different directions
True love may have to wait
If you are committed to different directions
True love will have to wait

Under His Wings
Whatever, my way, this life brings, I am safely under His Wings,
Under the wings of my Lord, by Whom, my life is never ignored,
Safely under His wings of Love, as He protects me from above,
Through this life I can be sure, in my Lord, I am safe and secure.
Within my Lord's Everlasting Arms, I am safe from undue harms,
Though I may run into tribulation, He is The God of my Salvation,
Knowing I'm free from the curse, life without Him was truly worse,
Truly alone in the darkness of sin, without Grace, granted by Him.
As a dark storm pours upon me, I know The Lord God of Eternity,
By The One, in Whom I'm saved, in His palm, I've been engraved,
Engraved forever; there to stay, as He watches me night and day,
Being never far from God's sight, as He guides me day and night.
The One, Who knit me in the womb, is there should troubles loom,
For all of my troubles, He is aware, as I am continually in His care,
I am always in the eyes of The Lord, this by God I'm fully assured,
With me from the beginning to end; He's my Lord, God and friend.
Under The Wings of loving care, of The Lord, Who is always there,
Every new day, to see me through, all of the things God foreknew,
Also, my Lord knows all that's ahead, so I haven't a need to dread,
Any new trials or tribulation, but, just trust the Lord of my Salvation.

From A Dark Room
"Our spirits were made for light, not for darkness." Thomas Merton
This dark room
comforts me.
Tender eyes
are safe here from
the hot autumn wind.
Dark tears cleanse
as I gaze out
to the shimmering street
where rises the sacred scent
of yellow flowers,
heavy
and sweet.

Today... 'The Glory of the Lord
A Saviour has been born to us; He is Christ the Lord.
A babe wrapped in rags by heaven and earth adored.
Angels brought to the world news of great blessing and joy.
God had come to earth and was born as a baby boy.
Your face shone like the sun so radiant and bright
as You were transfigured before their sight.
The Glory of the Lord came shining through
upon the mountain top as they gazed at You.
For they were standing upon the most holy ground
bathed in light as the Shekinah glory shone around.
This world has been illuminated by the Glory of God
shining in the face of Jesus as earths paths He trod.
For the Eternal Light and Uncreated Beam
in the life of Jesus Christ has by mankind been seen.
The image of the Godhead we see mirrored there.
You are the lord our God heaven and earth declare.
The image of the God in You Jesus we see.
the indwelling fullness of the Godhead bodily.
Peter said 'Lord it is good for us to be here'
As he watched Moses and Elijah disappear.
This sight had only been seen by a favoured few
and the Glory of God had come shining right through.
Then, 'This is my beloved son' God said to them
on the top of this mountain near Capernaum.
Later on the Isle of Patmos John saw God's Son
with His countenance shining brighter than the sun.
His eyes were like flashing fire and hair white as snow
and His feet like highly burnished bronze seemed to glow.
Then as one who was dead John fell down to the ground
for so awesome was that scene on that Island found.
Before him the glory of the Lord was too bright
far to wonderful for him to withstand the sight.
One day all will before the throne of Glory stand
and look upon a sight so glorious and grand.
For the Glory of the Lord Jesus will seen by all
and all mankind will confess You as Lord of all.

Lovers Prayer
Lord, lord, lord, lord, lord
Lord, lord, lord, lord, lord
Lord, lord, lord, lord, lord
Just wanna be with my love tonight
I dont want no jive artists calling me on the telephone
Dont wanna watch the carson show all alone
I just wanna lay back, take my rest
With the one I loves head resting on my chest
Lord, lord, lord, lord, lord
Lord, lord, lord, lord, lord
Lord, lord, lord, lord, lord
Just wanna be with my love tonight
And I dont want my best friends even coming round
cos if they do I might put em down
Carsons over and the lights way down low
And all I got, I got a heart full of soul
Lord, lord, lord, lord, lord
I said, lord, lord, lord, lord, lord
I said, lord, lord, lord, lord, lord
Just wanna be with my love tonight
And its a lovers prayer, oh yes it is
Takes a little time, takes a little care, yeah, yeah, yeah
And when it gets way on in the midnight hour
I just wanna play my guitar
I just wanna see you smile, touch your face
Be with you in my own place
Lord, lord, lord, lord, lord
I said, lord, lord, lord, lord, lord
Lord, lord, lord, lord, lord
Just wanna be with my love tonight
Just wanna be with my love tonight
Just wanna be with my love tonight

So Blu
You see me at the bottom
Trying to get on top
You see me at the club
You know I se to rock
You see me crying tears
Lord make 'em stop
You see the sun shine
But never on my block
You see I'm trying to grow
Let me get ahead
You know I'm trying to do
What my mamma said
Lord I need a change
Lord feel my pain
Lord find me one
That ain't 'bout this game
I'm trying to find a man
I'm trying to find a ring
I'm trying to find someone
Who loves me more
Than their bling bling
Trying to be a wife
Trying to make a life
Trying to get in touch
With my spiritual side
Trying to have your back
Trying to help you stack
Trying to be your strength
When you know you lack
Lord I need a change
Lord tell me you feel my pain
So blu

if i heave a sigh, what will i do with what i did not heave?
if i heave a sigh
into the air, and i keep some other more inside myself,
unconsumed, unspent,
what will i do with it?
keep it
like a secret in my closed fingers and pretend i am angry
with this clenched fist
when in truth i have nothing
no plan of keeping things that long because my arms
my soon go
into the river and be lost floating like a log from a hill?
i heave a sigh, that is enough relief,
i am emptied of something heavy
in my nose
i become an island losing air
but keeping sand and
stones
to keep my balance with the coconut trees
still
making landmarks to lost directions,
but it is my way of making my senses alive
i heave a sigh
and i want you to really hear it at a very close distance
just you and me
for you to know where i have situated myself
in this vast
nothingness,
i am here, touch me,
i am warm, i am fire,
you have been taking the forms of water
cold, damp,
having the face of the night, where the moon lost its light,
what are you doing to me?
i am taking you but you are the one taking me nowhere
i am lost by your promises
of a raft
i lost track of your waft, and here i am lost again as i
heave a sigh, deeper
this time....

Your proximity means a lot to me
Your proximity means a lot to me
Yes, it means a lot to me to be with you
And to be intimately close to you
Not just a physical togetherness
But with a soulful oneness with you
You have been the drive of my life so far
But here and there I missed you
As I chose to act differently from your direction
You never let me down any time
You kept your watch on me
Not uttering a word
Though you maintain a silence I know
What you expect me to do
That will please you
Your directions are not always worldly wise
Your directions are not always fetching
Your directions are not always rewarding
Your directions are often different from acquired wisdom
Your directions are not taught in any school
We understand them from the experience of not life, but of living
Still your proximity means a lot to me
It leaves behind a great satisfaction
After being with you and after having acted upon your direction
When I look back
I understand that
Actions performed as per your directions
Never made me regret them
Though at the time of acting
I needed lot strength than what I require
When I am acting on the path of acquired wisdom
Your proximity means a lot to me
Oh my love, that is hidden deeply in my heart
And you are different from
The wisdom planted in the mind
And gathered in life

An Expectation Of Familiarity
Exhausted from the process of moving forward,
Has left many out of breath...
Without taking viable steps.
Weaving through those who protest new directions,
Is like getting a child to think of eating vegetables...
As best for their health.
Unless perceptions change...
Directions to communicate corrections,
Will not benefit swift actions that call for it.
Even though people say they seek change,
The implementation and the quality...
Has to have an expectation of familiarity.
Or the affect of it will not be accepted.

I Trust In You Lord
Whenever I feel alone in this world
I trust in you lord
Whenever I feel no one cares me
I trust in you lord
Whenever I ashamed in front of others
I trust in you lord
Whenever my situations change so bad
I trust in you lord
Whenever my eyes cannot accommodate my tears
I trust in you lord
Whenever I become financially dreadful
I trust in you lord
Whenever I cannot shout like others
I trust in you lord
Whenever people close their eyes towards me
I trust in you lord
Whenever I cannot take any decisions
I trust in you lord
Whenever I feel myself despicable
I trust in you lord
Whenever I know nothing in my hand for tomorrow
I trust in you lord
Whenever I lose my all hope
I trust in you lord
Whenever my dreams aren't come true
I trust in you lord
Whenever I go through failure
I trust in you lord
Whenever my friends become ascendant than me
I trust in you lord
Whenever I feel I can't be in faith any more
I trust in you lord

This River
Reflections in the water, flowing,
Directions for the way, its knowing,
Connections with the breeze that’s blowing,
As this river travels on.
Confusion as the birds do flutter,
Intrusion and some shrews do scutter,
Profusion of flies, fish do splutter,
As this river travels on.
Creation of wealth there to be seen,
Location perfect, beauty serene,
Elation, sparkling aquamarine,
As this river travels on.

Insatiable Desire
Oh, Lord, My moon, see my plight,
The whole day, the sun I fight,
And my petals I keep closed tight
For you, over the horizon right,
To rise in the starry night,
And kiss me with your cool light.
Oh, Lord, My moon, I now sight
Your luminous mien, so coolly bright,
My coyness with your touch is in flight—
I unfold myself with no fright,
In ecstasy, I dance with all my might
From the shimmering waters of the bight.
Oh, Lord, My moon, I now sight,
The happiness you bestow from infinite height,
The distance that parts us is the day-light,
I wish, I could soar past the kite in delight,
To touch your feet in reverence spright.
But alas! I droop down with incurable blight!

Find A River
(fred tackett)
Oh I wanna find a river
And take it down to the sea
And drift on by so slowly
Oh if you think about me
You know you could help me through
You know I would return in kind
Oh I wanna find a city
Thats open wide
Thats open all night
Where I could not hide
>from its burnin light
So warm, so bright
Let me run so free and easily
Shelter me with its sweet mysteries
Oh lord, oh lord, oh lord
Oh I wanna find my baby
But I do not know where he lies
And I do not know if he cries
Or laughs at me
Oh lord, oh lord, oh lord
I wanna find my baby
Oh I wanna find a river

Redemption
'... it is the unaccepted self that stands in my way
and will continue to do so as long as it is not accepted. '
Thomas Merton, A Search for Solitude.
Broken-hearted,
uncertain
of my sullied worth,
beaten down, degraded
to my basic earth,
you gaze on me,
and I see a new light.
My face grows brilliant
in your radiant sight.
You find in me
what I cannot see,
and teach me
to love
humanity.

Modern Dancing
Modern, modern, modern, modern dancing
Modern dancing, modern dancing
Modern dancing, modern
I see you acting modernly with the boys and girls
Exposure breeds discovery in the modern world
The 60's hairdos 90's eyes are just flashing lights
A touch of neon hinting class for the modern night
Modern dancing, modern dancing
Modern dancing, modern dancing
Dancing
Modern dancing, modern dancing
Modern dancing, modern
Mono vision tv face and determined eyes
The clothes are perfect the rips in place just the perfect size
Familiarity breeds contempt but it doesn't show
We've heard the music times before but it still makes you go
Modern dancing, modern dancing
Modern dancing, modern dancing
Modern dancing, dancing
....variations to fade....
