Aubade: Suisun Valley
'Love is not mere emotion or sentiment. It is the lucid and ardent response of the whole man.' Thomas Merton
Waves of grey light
wash over our small valley.
Cool morning
sea-born breeze prevails
for now.
High-toned birds wait
for the golden sun to ignite
our swaying trees.
Only in the darker eves
do I hear the mourning dove's
steady moan.
In silver-blue tones,
he bids his love
awake!

Out of the Silence
"Out of the silence, Light is spoken." Thomas Merton
I walk
into the morning.
Birds
drowse
in the dark,
an unseen breeze
strokes my
arms, my bare neck,
as two cranes
over the edge
of the meadow
rise
as the Holy Spirit
moans
in tones
of morning light.

A Simple Question
'While I am asking questions which You do not answer, You ask me a question which is so simple that I cannot answer. I do not even understand the question.' Thomas Merton, A Merton Reader,
'And He continued by questioning them, ‘But who do you say that I am? '' Mark 8: 29
Clear day
golden sky
gives way to
black clouds
and I ask,
'why? '
It's a child's question.
Within cities
hard edges, pavements
grey receive the red
tide, heads fall
and lives split open,
spill into
gutters fill,
sewers, fill
the sea,
and like a
persistent child
I ask 'why? '
In the morning
through bright
windows I see how
spring leans
to summer, timid
leaves open wide
glow in silver light
and green fire
fills the wood,
and by this beauty
silenced,
I hear
in tones
beyond my hearing
a simple question;
'who? '
but I cannot answer;
I do not
know.

Who I Am
"To say that I am made in the image of God is to say that love is the reason for my existence, for God is love. Love is my true identity. Selflessness is my true self. Love is my true character. Love is my name." Thomas Merton. New Seeds of Contemplation
Through bone-wrapped eyes, through murky vitreous,
through matter grey, lightning emotions flying
at the speed of light through my
tunnel vision, I focused on what was
just beyond the
end of my
nose.
I did not create that small voice
singing sweetly in
my ringing
ears;
but just before dawn, fingers numb,
hair disordered by the
western breeze
blinding
me
to Your love,
I heard Your voice!
Now the warmth of morning
cradles me
like
open hands.
Now I know
who I am.

We Must Believe
We must all believe in love and in peace.
We must believe in the power of love. Thomas Merton
Peace fills this house
as I alone awake and hear
the sounds of easy breathing,
the morning birds, striving
with rising dawn, singing
in the sun with piercing song,
while in the great distance
beyond the gentle flame of sunrise
anger rages.
The birds of Homs are silent.
Waning day swells
with the wails of
mothers.
They cradle the innocents,
caught in the cross-fire
of a Assad's evil greed.
Thy will be done.
Though I cannot understand
I must believe
in your powerful love,
your infinite
Peace!

Morning breeze
Sun shine enters followed by
Cool breeze through the window,
Kingdom of sleep comes to end
Some string pulls head from pillow.
Feel of morning cool breeze
touching the body, soul wakes.
Thunder of memories of night cooled
on flow of dreams, putting brake.
Trees have worked whole night
now singing lullaby before go to rest.
Leaves are swaying and dancing
as some one shaking holding hands.
Reach passing through woods, orchards
mountains, sea and meadows
with sweet, salty, whiffed cool touch
wane blossoms and faces glow.
Blooming blossoms swaying say
good morning to kissing sun rays.
Whispering breeze performs prayer
in the temples and the churches.
Chirping birds swing their wings
to welcome and embrace the breeze.
Celestial cool touch pierce the soul
thoughts for a while freeze.

The Golden Valley
To perchase his boat and to ppurchase your love,
And like Enoch's white horse to his lover;
But your golden valley of love lay bare,
For i have to overflow it with love.
To purchase her boat and to purchase his love,
And like Eve's baby to her sweet lover;
But your golden valley lay bare,
And i have to water it with my love.
A patient wife,
And to watch them overflow the banks of love;
For the changes seen came out of it.
This love is like a seaman's glass,
And the passion it generates is from her;
But like a caged bird escaping suddenly,
The long and narrow sheet of the valley was noticed.
Let them sing around the old tree,
And let them enjoy the fruits of love;
For it is pleasant to see kind heart in true love.
Icy and chilly,
And birds of rare plume;
Fill the red bowls in the golden valley with love and,
Let me bath you all day long in this sweet muse of love.
A rich and savoury stew to serve in the golden valley,
And of natural beauties to swing with the muse;
But i can still hear the voices from the old trees.
My memory can still retrace your love,
And of your beauty in the golden valley of love;
But with a thankful heart i envy nobody,
Because sweet came out of your world in this valley.

The Obscure Sense Of The Presence Of God
I see how the evening sun lights
the high grass, trees shift in the gentle wind
and small brown birds flit between
outdoor tables as young women
reach for coffee cups
dropp sweet crumbs to the rough sidewalk,
to the birds. Intent on home-work,
office-work, they never look up
to see how the sky
deepens to darker hue;
how day will fade soon
and vermillion night set fire
to the seaward hills.
The west wind will finally drive them in,
and the grateful birds will all fly away.
I see it all.
My old eyes know how this old world works,
how Your love lurks even in the weeds
that grow on the edge of the most
tended garden; hides in the cries of
the grieving mourning dove;
falls like rain in the tender,
moonless night.

The Cool Summer Breeze
The Cool Summer Breeze
Have you experienced the cool summer breeze?
Have you witnessed the constant swaying trees?
How about the buzzing of the bees?
Have you seen the falling of the leaves?
I have, and I love the cool summer breeze.

Decline of Day
Gentle breeze,
swaying trees
leaves
golden-green.
Imperfect sphere
sliding through day’s
perfect, blue air.
Ascends the moon
stark and silver
much too soon.

Morning Time
Wind was blowing through the trees
I could hear the rustling of their leaves
The morning sun sneaking through the clouds
Birds singing morning sounds
For i love this time i say
Morning of a new day
I wonder what the day has in store
In the distance i hear the waves crashing the shore
For it is morning time and all is a buzz
From the depths of the oceans
To the skies above
Good morning morning i always say
My your a beautiful day
Maybe you might rain today
Your still beautiful anyway
The sombre breeze that blows around
The birds singing
As i spread my blanket on the ground
So i lay here looking into the sky
Motionless waiting and watching the world pass me by
A few drops of rain speckle my face
I would not give up being here for any place
Serenade
"We are always traveling and traveling as if we did not know where we were going. " Thomas Merton
Warm wind stirring my
tallest trees. Sunset retrieves
another hot day.
Descends silken sky;
passion ignites summer's night,
stars, like wine, delight!
In cool rooms I'll wait
for you to awake. O come!
We'll begin again!

This morning with my God
Then You write.......
Let’s feel free to sing song of love
love will reflects in our eyes…
Let’s sing the morning prayer
Rhythmed by this cool morning and with our heart beats.
Let’s feel the caressing breeze and its love
Lets pray God, its brings the fragrance of roses
Towards love…Godly love
Let’s touch this morning sunrays…
With our stretched hand in hand
Let’s walk free my dear,
Go towards unknown shores'
(I wish to read and keep and to write) .
In the morning when I awake
I see your lovely face in the heart of cool breeze and silence
In the morning when I awake
I really felt you are mine
In the morning when I see you
I am in love
When I go to a walk
not to pray...
I see you are near for a dear walk
I really owe, full of passion....
Not to work
full of mad love
want to fly, over hills and valleys
beyond my wildest dreams of love
and pray, thy, take through
this oceans of love
when I go to bed
I really feel, you are here
Now we are in bed... and in love

Vestige
"This is the reality I need, the vestige of God in His creatures." Thomas Merton, When the Trees Say Nothing: Writings on Nature
Bright day,
seaward breezes
clearing the sky,
Can you feel the chill?
Can you hear sounds of
rushing trees,
of mockingbirds
calling
cawing crows?
Behind life's song
can you hear the beat,
the steady
basso continuo?
Oh, just gaze
hard enough
into the
living blue,
and be it!
You'll climb the
bright back of night
and enter into
the song -
the song
in the mind
of God.

You And I Could Fly High Into The Blue Sky
If you were my morning dove
What is love dove
Could we fly through the air dove
Would it be enough
If you and I could fly
Could you and I try
Not to shed tears and cry
I will not lie
To thee my dove
You and I could fly high into the blue sky

Forever Autumn
The summer sun is fading
As the year grows old
And darker days are drawing near.
The winter winds will be much colder
Now you're not here.
I watch the birds fly south across the autumn sky
And one by one they disappear.
I wish that I was flying with them
Now you're not here.
Like the sun through the trees you came to love me
Like a leaf on a breeze you blew away.
Through autumns golden gown we used to kick our way
You always loved this time of year.
Those fallen leaves lay undisturbed now
Cause you're not here.
Cause you're not here.
Cause you're not here.
Like the sun through the trees you came to love me.
Like a leaf on a breeze you blew away.
A gentle rain pours softly on my weary eyes.
As if to hide a lonely tear.
My life will be forever autumn
Cause you're not here.
Cause you're not here.
Cause you're not here.

Dove Grey Sands
Seein' life begin
Hear the oceans sing
It takes you back
Pulls you back
Brings you home
See your face in stone
A hollow moon above an aching sky
Silent night
Brings you home
Left without a place
Lonely inner space
That you can breathe
It's the essence of a love
My love
Lead by devotion
Celebrate (x2)
Celebration
Dove grey sands
Lead by devotion
Celebrate (x2)
Celebrate now
Dove grey sands
Narrow days alone
Pushing for the sun
Don't hide away
Burn to grey
One soul
Facing life alone
Numbers on a phone
To help you back
Send it back
Bring you home
Left without a place
Lonely inner space
That you can breathe
It's the essence of a love
My love
Lead by devotion
Celebrate (x2)
Celebration
Dove grey sands
Lead by devotion
Celebrate (x2)
Celebrate now
Dove grey sands
Feelin' like it's over
It's just the start
I can't hear you again
Dreaming of the ocean
As waves come in
I can't hear it again
Dove grey sands (x3)

Daughters Of The Sea
Patrick simmons
Autumn breeze blowin to the east
Shift of breeze upon a sea of peace
Hear them call, cant you hear them sing
Hear them call, how their voices ring
Dizzy dancin, golden ladies
Misty eyes that cannot fool
Silver shoreline waves come crashin
To the end of all of you
Like a spider weavin silken nets
Fingers move, swaying silhouettes
Hear them call, cant you hear them sing
Hear them call, how their voices ring
Spinning, turning, moonlit madness
round the fire burnin bright
I can see it risin higher
Lightin up the starry night
Hear them call, cant you hear them sing
Hear them call, how their voices ring
Hear them call, cant you hear them sing
Hear them call, how their voices ring

Blue Home
Sea, if only you knew how I miss you
you'd come and take me
gently while I'm asleep,
you know I regret it, every time I leave you
blue blue home, take me home
let me fall asleep on your waves
wash my body and my face
breathless I am, my blue home
take me Sea, take me home
this dirt, this sin, this love is making me a sinner
take me home, my blue love,
I am only good when I'm home
on the waves, there's my bed
my light are the stars
you sing me, o lovely whale
I hear your voice...
beg the sea, my whale, to take me home
to my blue blue home!

Atmosphere of nature
The field is green
The sky is blue
The sun is shining,
I feel so new
It’s the atmosphere of nature
When the sky is grey
Thundering and lightning
Predators catch there prey
Except some that got away
It’s the atmosphere of nature
Its light and its morning
I can hear the birds singing
And the children’s laughter
Swaying away like a lullaby
It’s the atmosphere of nature
Roses are red
Violets are blue
Sugar is sweet
Nature is too
It’s the atmosphere of nature…
