Politics
Glassy eyed stars
Buzzards in bars,
Wild and wooly creatures
Driving hopped up cars-
The world's gone to a crazy cotillion
In a bizarre dance of billions,
The humble and the wise buried alive
As the price of it all climbs past gazillions-
The modern political scheme
Is to never let the public know what the 'party' truly means,
Keep the voters confused and wondering:
Are politicians humans, or heartless machines?
The less we common folk know
The better for them it all goes,
As long as they can buy enough votes
To ensure their bank accounts continue to grow-
It's the politics of the age
The self-aggrandizing craze,
That tries to take away the sense of ordinary folks
And lock them all away, in a hopeless mental cage-
Therefore understand, the ultimate political freedom
Is to belong to no group or clan,
To finally find you are truly free to be
Your own woman or man.

Children of Our Age
We are children of our age,
it's a political age.
All day long, all through the night,
all affairs--yours, ours, theirs--
are political affairs.
Whether you like it or not,
your genes have a political past,
your skin, a political cast,
your eyes, a political slant.
Whatever you say reverberates,
whatever you don't say speaks for itself.
So either way you're talking politics.
Even when you take to the woods,
you're taking political steps
on political grounds.
Apolitical poems are also political,
and above us shines a moon
no longer purely lunar.
To be or not to be, that is the question.
And though it troubles the digestion
it's a question, as always, of politics.
To acquire a political meaning
you don't even have to be human.
Raw material will do,
or protein feed, or crude oil,
or a conference table whose shape
was quarreled over for months;
Should we arbitrate life and death
at a round table or a square one?
Meanwhile, people perished,
animals died,
houses burned,
and the fields ran wild
just as in times immemorial
and less political.

A Canadian Tea Party
We need control of our Ottawa politicians somehow,
Maybe a tea party or something that we ourselves allow,
We need binding referendums soon but how do we get them?
Trudeau’s Charter didn’t help and the media will condemn.
We need political recall of useless politicians,
I realize that this is contrary to elitist traditions,
We need compulsory voting to get us all out to vote,
They will delay everything and say that they’ll take a note.
And make Trudeau’s Charter of Rights for Canadians alone,
Not for all refugees in the world from every combat zone,
We need set-date elections for sure every four or five years,
Not when they feel inclined because of political party fears.

Political World
We live in a political world
Where love dont have any place
Were living in times where men commit crimes
And crime dont have a face
We live in a political world
Icicles hangin down
Wedding bells ring and angels sing
And clouds cover up the ground
We live in a political world
Wisdom is thrown into jail
It rots in a cell misguided as hell
Leaving no one to pick up the trail
We live in a political world
Where mercy walks the plank
Life is in mirrors, death disappears
Up the steps into the nearest bank
We live in a political world
Courage is a thing of the past
Houses are haunted, children arent wanted
Your next day could be your last
We live in a political world
The one we can see and feel
But theres no one to check, its all a stacked deck
We all know for sure that its real
We live in a political world
The cities are a lonesome fear
Little by little, you turn in the middle
Youre never sure why youre here
We live in a political world
Under the microscope
You could travel anywhere and hang yourself there
Youve always got more than enough rope
We live in a political world
Turning and a-thrashing about
As soon as youre awake youre trained to take
What looks like the easy way out
We live in a political world
Where peace is not welcome at all
Its turned away from the door to wander some more
Or put up against the wall
We live in a political world
Everythings hers and his
Climb into the flame and shout gods name
But youre not even sure what it is

In Their Own Sick Minds
They plan the deaths of and murder people they do not even know
Which causes me for to wonder how this can be so
In their own sick minds they write their own laws
Is Humanity not considered in their political cause
They murder people guilty of only one crime
To be in the wrong place and there at the wrong time
When they call themselves freedom fighters they have got it all wrong
A freedom fighter to their group would not wish to belong
They hardly would know what freedom is about
And their very sanity one has to doubt
To live free of fear is a basic Human Right
And even of such a freedom they do gladly make light
Of and they are a disgrace to Humanity of them one can say
And to Karma for their crimes a huge price they must pay.

Singling out political opponents for working against the ruling party is precisely the tactic of every tyrannical government from Red China to Venezuela. The first step in the process is creating unfounded public suspicion of political opponents, followed by arresting and jailing any who continue speaking against the regime.

Politics What I Understand
Politics is: process of transfer
to the politicians, of public power;
Science of public reigning
and government running;
Formulation of regulation and policy
to apply on, and reign the public
leaving escape door for them
and those who overwhelm;
Keeping nearest groups satisfied
and other groups pacified;
Seeing public in difficulty
being apathy but showing sympathy;
Politically remove all those
In way of their whim who arose:
To show malign image of opposition party
and join their dinner party;
This is what I could understand
Politics is like tusks of elephant.

On Irish Politics And Politicians
Politics in the Republic of Ireland with any joy I can't recall
Nepotism rife in the ranks of the three major parties Labour, Fine Gael and Fianna Fail
Jobs for their kin and their mates only Irish Politicians in their ways so small
In Politics since my time in Ireland suppose things would not have changed much at all
I was never a member of any Irish Political Party to me they seemed a very flawed lot
The way they conducted their business I certainly haven't forgot
Any one party not cleaner than the other honest politicians anywhere hard to be found
I recall amongst Irish Politicians that nepotism did abound
They grew old and retired on their big pensions they took care of themselves and their own
Honesty and fairness with them not a high priority the most of them for such not known
When they spoke of doing good for the Country they did not mean what they did say
They only helped their families, friends and relations respect to them I could not pay
There were a few honourable Irish Politicians just a few that I can recall
But honesty does not survive well amongst Politicians they are a flawed lot overall.

Forbidden Death with Dignity July 28th,2012
FORBIDDEN DEATH WITH DIGNITY July 28th 2012
By
James Bredin
Death with dignity should not be too difficult to impose,
No need for a referendum and just see how it goes,
And those who oppose it will just have to shut up and learn,
Like now; those of us who want it have to shut up and yearn.
Because our politicians will not arrange this anytime soon,
From binding referendums and mandatory voting, we're immune,
All party politicians have been told by their party bosses,
You can't like these things or it might be your political losses.
That's why nothing is done for voting or death in this regard,
A party politician could loose his job and his party card,
Sue Rodriguez could not get death with dignity when she tried,
She was refused, with painful Lou Gehrig's disease and then she died.
But this is real and this is now and we are still alive and here,
And without referendums or political input; should we fear?
Media moguls tell us that there is no need to complain,
This is the way things are and this is how they will remain.

Driving Me Crazy
No matter where you go Ill be there
No matter where you hide Ill find you
Ill be there looking through the window watching everything you do
Theres no escaping me
Ill be like your worst enemy
Im right behind you every place you run to Ill be there with you
Cos being without you is driving me crazy
Oh I just dont know what to do
Yes being without you is driving me crazy
Cos all I want is you .
And I like it
If all the worlds a stage and we are,
Were only just two crazy players
Please understand why I just cant go on without you anymore
Theres no escaping me
I want you back, cant you see
Im losing all control and cannot guarantee my sanity
Cos being without you is driving me crazy
And I dont know what to do
Yes being without you is driving me crazy
Cos all I want is you
Being without you is driving me crazy
I dont know how long Ill last
Being without you is driving me crazy
Feel my pulse its going so fast
You, youre driving me crazy
Me, Im out of my mind
You, youre making me crazy
Me, Im running out of time
I am your conscience, Im your guide
I know just what you feel inside
I share your darkest thoughts with you but share no consequences for them
Theres no escaping me
Im with you while you sleep
I hear your lies, I hear your truth
I hear you speak before you do
But being without you is driving me crazy
And I dont know what to do
Yes being without you is driving me crazy
Cos all I want is you
Being without you is driving me crazy
I dont know how long Ill last
Being without you is driving me crazy
Feel my pulse its going so fast

Wooly Lamb, Wooly Lamb
Wooly Lamb, Wooly Lamb, frisking along;
Wooly Lamb, Wooly Lamb, bleating a song;
Wooly Lamb, Wooly Lamb, wearing fur-coat,
Wooly Lamb, Wooly Lamb, looking so bright!
Wooly Lamb, Wooly Lamb, eating green grass,
Wooly Lamb, Wooly Lamb, let me first pass,
Wooly Lamb, Wooly Lamb, grazing so nice,
Wooly Lamb, Wooly Lamb, what a surprise!

Crazy Little Girl
Crazy little party girl
How I love her
Partying around the world-she wants to dance
Crazy little party girl
There's no other
Party Party
Always ready to dance
Time for a party-time to take a chance
Turn up the music
And we'll dance-dance-dance
Good days are coming-lonely days are gone
'Cuz I have a little
Who wants fun-fun-fun
Everyone-needs a little time
Everyone-a reason for a smile
Everyone-wants to love someone
Everyone-wants to have a little fun
Crazy little party girl
How I love her
Partying around the world-she wants to dance
Crazy little party girl
There's no other
Party party
Always ready to dance
Don't try to stop her-dont cha wanna know
What makes you happy
Baby please don't go
I got a feeling-that you'll be alright
It's a natural feeling
And it's high-high-high
Crazy little party girl
How I love her
Partying around the world-she wants to dance
Crazy little party girl
There's no other
Party party
Always ready to dance

How Long Does This Sedation Last?
Senators and Governor Generals are all appointed,
And we are expected to show that we are not disappointed,
And dumb politicians can’t be recalled because that’s not allowed,
The system is great, they say and we are compelled to feel proud.
Where all terrorists and prisoners have Trudeau’s Charter Rights,
All the way to the appointed Supreme Court with their legal fights,
And political candidates with the most votes have always won,
Though the combined votes of the loosers was more but no reruns.
And without binding referendums, nothing is allowed to change,
Democracy with no proportional representation strange,
Is this a graphic illustration of a sleep walking nation?
How do we get out of this form of political sedation?

Sooner Or Later We'll Be Dead
Sooner or later each one of us is obliged to die,
We may or may not have an opportunity to say, “Bye! ”
Because this is something that can’t be planned except in a few states,
Our politicians refuse to discuss these political debates.
You might think that for such a sure thing, it should all be well planned,
But our political leaders ensure we have our heads in the sand,
As we wait blindly for some horrible disease to kill us off,
In great pain, sorrow, disgust, disappointment and maybe cough.
If we lived in Switzerland, Holland or Oregon, we could plan,
To go out with dignity if you’re an old woman or old man,
I hope these words don’t haunt you sometime in your distant future,
As you lie there waiting to die or for your next suture.

Our Party Controlled Politicians
Politicians should all be independent and no party ties,
Locked into some secret party agenda in disguise,
Can't have an independent thought for some unknown reason,
It could be considered the equivalent as high treason.
Their elite establishment always oppose political change,
We the people are merely numbers and easy to arrange,
We're in a media controlled political prison box,
No changes forthcoming so no need to click your inbox.
No binding referendums, no recall or euthanasia,
No need for mandatory voting like they have in Australia,
No proportional representation in first past the post,
These changes are forbidden in Canada from coast to coast.

Poetry, Not Prose
Tom Friedman says that we need poetry, not prose,
to get this country into better shape.
Although we surely know a rose would be a rose
if called by any other name, a grape
becomes much more when sublimated into wine,
and politics don’t matter till its message
becomes poetic. Prose won’t help to make it shine,
and all predications politicians presage
won’t come to pass unless they’re elevated with
poetic language that shifts paradigms,
and brings into reality what seemed mere myth,
promoting the prosaic with its rhymes.
We need a narrative that we can memorize,
not complicated data on a chart,
and yearn for tuneful songs that we can harmonize,
and poems we love learning off by heart.
Inspired by an Op-Ed article by Thomas Friedman in the NYT, November 1,2009, exhorting President Obama to be more poetic (“More Poetry Please”) :
More and more lately, I find people asking me: What do you think President Obama really believes about this or that issue? I find that odd. How is it that a president who has taken on so many big issues, with very specific policies — and has even been awarded a Nobel Prize for all the hopes he has kindled — still has so many people asking what he really believes? I don’t think that President Obama has a communications problem, per se. He has given many speeches and interviews broadly explaining his policies and justifying their necessity. Rather, he has a “narrative” problem….
“Obama’s election marked a shift — from a politics that celebrated privatized concerns to a politics that recognized the need for effective government and larger public purposes. Across the political spectrum, people understood that national renewal requires big ambition, and a better kind of politics, ” said the Harvard political theorist Michael Sandel, author of the new best seller — “Justice: What’s the Right Thing to Do? ” — that calls for elevating our public discourse. But to deliver on that promise, Sandel added, Obama needs to carry the civic idealism of his campaign into his presidency. He needs a narrative that will get the same voters who elected him to push through his ambitious agenda — against all the forces of inertia and private greed. “You can’t get nation-building without shared sacrifice, ” said Sandel, “and you cannot inspire shared sacrifice without a narrative that appeals to the common good — a narrative that challenges us to be citizens engaged in a common endeavor, not just consumers seeking the best deal for ourselves. Obama needs to energize the prose of his presidency by recapturing the poetry of his campaign.”

Party Bound Politicians July 4th,2012
PARTY BOUND POLITICIANS July 4th,2012
By
James Bredin
Our Canadian politicians are reluctant to change,
If they do they will be immediately told that this is strange,
They are party politicians and not allowed an independent thought,
They have to follow the party line and not be distraught.
Canada should have a system where they have some independence,
And not march in step, completely party bound in their dependence,
We should have proportional representation for those who should vote,
And compulsory votes or added tax so all constituents take note.
Party politics is in many ways like a religious belief,
Those who change are treated as sacrilegious with great grief,
Those who want death with dignity are looked at as pagans or worse,
Supreme Court decisions here will not allow for anything diverse.
