To His Dead Body
When roaring gloom surged inward and you cried,
Groping for friendly hands, and clutched, and died,
Like racing smoke, swift from your lolling head
phantoms of thought and memory thinned and fled.
Yet, though my dreams that throng the darkened stair
Can bring me no report of how you fare,
Safe quit of wars, I speed you on your way
Up lonely, glimmering fields to find new day,
Slow-rising, saintless, confident and kind—
Dear, red-faced father God who lit your mind.

One That Completes
Bring me that love,
My Dear Father.
Bring that love to me.
Bring me that love,
My Dear Father...
That love that is true as can be.
When I awaken from my sleep,
I'd like that love near by,
I want to share deep feelings and cares.
With one who will come,
To rescue this from inside me.
Like no one has ever done.
Bring me that love,
My Dear Father.
Bring that love to me.
Bring me the kind of love, My Dear Father
The kind that sets mine and other hearts free.
If You allow this to happen,
With Your blessings I'll receive.
I'll do the best to be better than I've been...
And not to take that love for granted
As I did when my needs grew selfishly.
And in sorrow those needs came to an end.
Helping me to realize,
No love would stand by true love in disguise.
Those are scars I no longer visit.
No longer catching me by surprise.
Bring me that love,
My Dear Father.
Bring that love to me.
Bring me that love,
My Dear Father...
That love that is true as can be.
I want You to bring
That kind of love I seek...
My Father.
Bring that one that completes,
And sets my feelings free!

Song For A Good Son
A summers day so long ago
A thousand boats dancing on the bay
I came to you inside a dream
We both held hands and fell into the water
You never claimed to know me well
The dark-eyed son, the privileged man
You fond me bitter, you thought me cold
Well now Im gonna make you understand
My mother died, my father cried
He left me lonely by the waterside
Waterside so deep and wide
If I follow, maybe I will find her
Beyond the salt and spray
The current carried her away
Beyond the salt and spray
The current carried her away
I cant outrun my destiny
Tell me who will sing a song for me
Darkness darkness cover me
By my own hands the way it has to be
My mother died my father cried
You will find me by the waterside
Waterside so deep and wide
If I follow, maybe I will find her
If I follow, maybe I will find her

Clear As The Driven Snow
Patrick simmons
Playin easy somewhere, shade across my mind
Thoughts that pass I cannot catch, I reach for you and find
That I have learned how not to get burned now
Wind in the tree blows, even the sea knows
That I have learned how, think I can see now
Lookin through dreams is not what it seems
They handed me the bottle and said drink it til its gone
But now that its half empty Im not sure I can go on
Thought I had learned how not to get burned now
Wind in the tree blows, even the sea knows
That I have learned how, think I can see now
Lookin through dreams...
I keep rollin, I keep rollin
I keep rollin and I cant stop
Rollin and I cant stop
Its drivin me out of my mind
To the truck stop, to the plane hop
To the boat dock and Im so close
Boat dock and Im so close
Give me a little more time
Spin me around, turn my head down
Take me down slow, dont let me go
Spin me around, turn my head down
Take me down slow, dont let me go
Gonna quit you, gonna quit you
Gonna quit you, pretty mama
Quit you, hey mama
You know that I aint got time
Get behind me, get behind me
Get behind me, now bad times
Oh, bad times
Theres nothin in there you can hide
Spin me around, turn my head down
Take me down slow, dont let me go
Spin me around, turn my head down
Take me down slow, dont let...

Love Sonnet XVII
Beloved, lest I should remember, I
Must swift forget the wonder of last night.
Hot memory would but blacken out my sight
And dull my senses till they seemed to die.
How could I live, remembering that sigh…
That breath…that sob…that all sublime delight?
Eternal joy is death, I think, and might
Not such sweet madness kill me, coming nigh?
I died with you that hour. Or, if not, merged
Myself in you, commingling all my life
Within your own, until I fled and fled
Into your blood; and my pure pulses surged,
Heaped with the wedded bliss of man and wife…
Dying, I lived…and living, I was dead.

A Safe Man
A SAFE MAN
WITH A SAFE SMILE
SEEMED SO SAFE TO THE TOUCH
A SAFE MAN AS TO WHOM I I SAW AS MY FATHER
SO SAFE OR SO I THOUGHT
MY SAFE MAN
MY SAFE FATHER
NOT SO SAFE
MY SAFE FATHER WHOM DID THINGS THAT MADE ME FEEL INDANGERD
ON THAT NIGHT HE STOLE MY DIGNITY &+ MY SELF WORTH
MY SAFE MAN
MY SAFE FATHER
NOT SO SAFE

I Quit
i quit trying to save the world...
and just offered my hand,
and walked beside it.
i quit trying to find the truth,
for it was already within me.
i quit trying to tell anyone anything,
and just listened in perfect stillness.
i quit trying to be religious,
and found the sacred in the common.
i quit trying to stop the wars,
and let the wars within me end!
i quit trying to find god,
and just looked in the mirror.
i quit fighting for freedom,
and found a freedom they couldnt take.
i quit shouting out for justice,
and walked in a way that was just.
i quit wanting to own anything,
and so broke the final bonds.
i quit trying to be what they wanted,
and decided to be myself.
i quit blaming, condemning, and accusing,
and took the responsibility on myself.
i quit trying to make myself a name,
and walked in nobody's shoes.
i quit staring from behind the bars,
that were never really there.
i quit seeking to define and hold,
and just let go and lived.
i quit hiding from death, and opened the door,
and found the light from which darkness
is made!

Sometimes even now I may
Sometimes even now I may
Steal a prisoner's holiday,
Slip, when all is worst, the bands,
Hurry back, and duck beneath
Time's old tyrannous groping hands,
Speed away with laughing breath
Back to all I'll never know,
Back to you, a year ago.
Truant there from Time and Pain,
What I had, I find again :
Sunlight in the boughs above,
Sunlight in your hair and dress,
The Hands too proud for all but Love,
The Lips of utter kindliness,
The Heart of bravery swift and clean
Where the best was safe, I knew,
And laughter in the gold and green,
And song, and friends, and ever you
With smiling and familiar eyes,
You - but friendly: you - but true.
And Innocence accounted wise,
And Faith the fool, the pitiable.
Love so rare, one would swear
All of earth for ever well -
Careless lips and flying hair,
And little things I may not tell.
It does but double the heart-ache
When I wake, when I wake.

A Recollection
MY father's friend came once to tea.
He laughed and talked. He spoke to me.
But in another week they said
That friendly pink-faced man was dead.
' How sad . .' they said, 'the best of men . .'
So I said too, 'How sad '; but then
Deep in my heart I thought with pride,
'I know a person who has died.'

Tears Fall Down
Now I see the time we had before
Is just a passing moment that we cant share anymore.
And Ive learned that written words are not the same
As when you take the time to say it
And let the clouds release the rain.
And I wish my dreams alone would bring back my old friends.
Yesterdays just something I cant mend.
And I broke down for my lost brother and Ive died for mama, too.
Now my tears fall down for you. for you.
And I say one thing each day before I lay me down.
I thank God for your sweet smile although youre not around.
And I cant overcome your memory in my mind.
Its a bridge Ill never cross until the end of time.
And I wish my dreams alone would bring back my old friend.
But, yesterdays just something I cant mend.
cause Ive broke down for my lost father and Ive cried for sister, too.
Now my tears fall down for you. for you. you.

Rivera Honeymoon
Beneath the trees I lounged at ease
And watched them speed the pace;
They swerved and swung, they clutched and clung,
They leapt in roaring chase;
The crowd was thrilled, a chap was killed:
It was a splendid race.
Two men, they say, went West that day,
But I knew only one;
Geranium-red his blood was spread
And blazoned in the sun;
A lighting crash . . . Lo! in a flash
His racing days were done.
I did not see - such sights to me
Appallingly are grim;
But for a girl of sunny curl
I would not mention him,
That English lad with grin so glad,
And racing togs so trim.
His motor bike was painted like
A postal box of ed.
'Twas gay to view . . . "We bought it new,"
A voice beside me said.
"Our little bit we blew on it
The day that we were wed.
"We took a chance: through sunny France
We flashed with flaunting power.
With happy smiles a hundred miles
Or more we made an hour.
Like flame we hurled into a world
A-foam with fruit and flower.
"Our means were small; we risked them all
This famous race to win,
So we can take a shop and make
Our bread - one must begin.
We're not afraid; Jack has his trade:
He's bright as brassy pin.
"Hark! Here they come; uphill they hum;
My lad has second place;
They swing, they roar, they pass once more,
Now Jack sprints up the pace.
They're whizzing past . . . At last, at last
He leads - he'll win the race.
Another round . . . They leap, they bound,
But - where O where is he?"
And then the girl with sunny curl
Turned chalk-faced unto me,
Within her eyes a wild surmise
It was not good to see.
They say like thunder-bold he crashed
Into a wall of stone;
To bloody muck his face was mashed,
He died without a moan;
In borrowed black the girl went back
To London Town alone.
Beneath the trees I longed at ease
And saw them pep the pace;
They swerved and swung, they clutched and clung
And roaring was the chase:
Two men, they say, were croaked that day -
It was a glorious race.

A Year and a Day
Slow days have passed that make a year,
Slow hours that make a day,
Since I could take my first dear love
And kiss him the old way;
Yet the green leaves touch me on the cheek,
Dear Christ, this month of May.
I lie among the tall green grass
That bends above my head
And covers up my wasted face
And folds me in its bed
Tenderly and lovingly
Like grass above the dead.
Dim phantoms of an unknown ill
Float through my tired brain;
The unformed visions of my life
Pass by in ghostly train;
Some pause to touch me on the cheek,
Some scatter tears like rain.
A shadow falls along the grass
And lingers at my feet;
A new face lies between my hands --
Dear Christ, if I could weep
Tears to shut out the summer leaves
When this new face I greet.
Still it is but the memory
Of something I have seen
In the dreamy summer weather
When the green leaves came between:
The shadow of my dear love’s face --
So far and strange it seems.
The river ever running down
Between its grassy bed,
The voices of a thousand birds
That clang above my head,
Shall bring to me a sadder dream
When this sad dream is dead.
A silence falls upon my heart
And hushes all its pain.
I stretch my hands in the long grass
And fall to sleep again,
There to lie empty of all love
Like beaten corn of grain.

We
we build the stairs first
stair upon stair
wood and nail
and hammer
and hands
and some
determined thoughts
dreams to reach the skies
focus
and look what have be done
we have reached the door
of the room
it is here where we shall hatch
all our dreams
like eggs to our warm
hands
like chicks to our cheeks
time and stairs and hopes and dreams and nails and hammers
and hands
and eyes
be awake and always be vigilant
for dreams that do not die like night
stars
are we

Early Works - Cries
Early Works - Cries
A cry of help from a distraught mind,
a cry ignored for too many years,
but in the midst of desperation
threats of violence rears its head
scenes of anguish and conflict fare
in a soul, which wonders if anyone really cares.
Far from being a lonely cry
hundreds, maybe thousands
the fate of this lonely soul share.
We ask ourselves how can this be.
Sadly, the welfare of us all is held
in the hands of faceless persons playing god,
they are those who wanted the Midas Touch.
They demolished the neighbour help relationship well
pulling down communities, isolating them in little boxes.
“For the better welfare of us all.” They cried,
then countless jumped from tower blocks and died
and the faceless ones went on their way
without a tear of sorrow shed.
As the years slipped through our fingers
the cries go on unabated and ignored
until young lives are held high in demonstration,
young lives which showed so much promise
and who share our world no more
as the cries gone never ending with despair.
While the biggest question is never answered
is there really any help out there.
30 July - 6 August 1985
Authors Note:
This poem was written about a Government report that showed the mistakes of the 1960s when communities were destroyed in the wake of tower block revolution.

Smoke And Mirrors
When I was a boy all the books I read
I followed like a blind man
To heed the words my father said
Those golden summers fade into night, words become a dream
The echoes of my childhood and where the path is winding
May God bless you, keep you safe from all harm
I stand by you always
Time and motion hands touch
Lips find a way to heaven on high
Watch the children play, the child becomes a man
And all the tangled webs we weave
You swear it as we live and breath
We stay together death until you part
Winner takes the prize
The futures at your finger tips, right before your eyes
No more sorrow (smoke and mirrors)
No more nights with no end
(I really learned a lot, smoke and mirrors)
I see my tomorrows
And nothing from nothing
And ashes to ashes they say
All the more that you reach out
The more that it runs away
(Smoke and mirrors)
No more goodbyes
(Thats all I ever got, smoke and mirrors)
No lies, you find your way there
(She show me what shes got, smoke and mirrors)
Heaven on high
May god bless you keep you safe from all harm
I stand by you always
Time and motion
(smoke and mirrors)
Hands touch, lips find a way to
(Thats all I ever got, smoke and mirrors)
Heaven on high
No more sorrow
(I really learned a lot, smoke and mirrors)
No more nights with no end
(She show me what shes got, smoke and mirrors)
I rise or I fall
no more goodbyes
(She really makes me hot, smoke and mirrors)
No lies, you find a way there
Heaven on high

At My Fireside
ALONE, beneath the darkened sky,
With saddened heart and unstrung lyre,
I heap the spoils of years gone by,
And leave them with a long-drawn sigh,
Like drift-wood brands that glimmering lie,
Before the ashes hide the fire.
Let not these slow declining days
The rosy light of dawn outlast;
Still round my lonely hearth it plays,
And gilds the east with borrowed rays,
While memory's mirrored sunset blaze
Flames on the windows of the past.

Clouds
Clouds i look up to you
When i need a view
To take me away
From what's left of this play.
You gathered, swelled with rain
As she faded from view
And cried to drown my pain
As i bathed in you
And wished you'd taken me along
When the moon turned blue
As a sunset stole my song
I just mimed goodbye- adieu
And hoped she saw the sadness in the skies
As i watched the fading sunlight in her eyes
Within my mind, when love was kind.
Clouds the only pillow on which to sleep
Forever
In soft embrace to keep
Her memory safe, untouched
At sky, like love i clutched
As clouds sailed slowly by
And far below i so slowly die.

When I Heard That You Died
I couldn’t bring myself to go to your funeral.
I couldn’t look at your lifeless body, because it wasn’t you.
It was an empty shell, the empty shell of my best friend.
I couldn’t look at your peaceful face without crying, and I had cried enough.
I cried a lifetimes worth of tears when I heard that you died.
So, I couldn’t bring myself to go to your funeral.
But I did go down to the river, remember?
Where we liked to play and relax when we were younger.
I went down to the river and threw a flower in the water.
I watched it get sucked under and dragged away, and I thought of you flying up to heaven.
A brief smile crossed my face, until the tears once again began to cloud my vision.
Happy you are safe, but sad to say goodbye.
So, it turns out, even though I couldn’t bring myself to go to your funeral,
The tears will come, and will always come when I think about this day.
The day when I heard that you died.
