The Redeemer
Darkness: the rain sluiced down; the mire was deep;
It was past twelve on a mid-winter night,
When peaceful folk in beds lay snug asleep;
There, with much work to do before the light,
We lugged our clay-sucked boots as best we might
Along the trench; sometimes a bullet sang,
And droning shells burst with a hollow bang;
We were soaked, chilled and wretched, every one;
Darkness; the distant wink of a huge gun.
I turned in the black ditch, loathing the storm;
A rocket fizzed and burned with blanching flare,
And lit the face of what had been a form
Floundering in mirk. He stood before me there;
I say that He was Christ; stiff in the glare,
And leaning forward from His burdening task,
Both arms supporting it; His eyes on mine
Stared from the woeful head that seemed a mask
Of mortal pain in Hell's unholy shine.
No thorny crown, only a woollen cap
He wore--an English soldier, white and strong,
Who loved his time like any simple chap,
Good days of work and sport and homely song;
Now he has learned that nights are very long,
And dawn a watching of the windowed sky.
But to the end, unjudging, he'll endure
Horror and pain, not uncontent to die
That Lancaster on Lune may stand secure.
He faced me, reeling in his weariness,
Shouldering his load of planks, so hard to bear.
I say that He was Christ, who wrought to bless
All groping things with freedom bright as air,
And with His mercy washed and made them fair.
Then the flame sank, and all grew black as pitch,
While we began to struggle along the ditch;
And someone flung his burden in the muck,
Mumbling: 'O Christ Almighty, now I'm stuck!'

Calvary
The Cross of Christ laid on the ground
And Jesus closed His eyes,
His beating heart the only sound
That He could realise...
They held Him down and nailed Him fast
As He screamed out in pain,
His blood ran cold, for now, at last,
He knew He would be slain...
The Cross of Christ was hoisted up,
With Him, the Romans' toy,
They offered Him the drug-filled cup,
Some mercy to employ...
But He refused to dull the ache,
The horror and the fear,
He knew the sacrifice to make
And kept it pure and clear...
The Cross of Christ was where He stayed,
No angels rescued Him,
They humbly watched as Christ obeyed
Before God's seraphim...
The Father stared from Heaven's Throne,
At Christ who wore a crown,
Forced there by Roman hearts of stone,
Now gambling for His gown...
The Cross of Christ was hid from sight
As God's Love looked away
And turned that sacred day to night
As He kept tears at bay...
One angel wept, then all joined in
And God wept tears as well.
This was the sacrifice for sin...
So we'd not go to Hell...
The Cross of Christ was where He died,
That place called Calvary,
That green hill far away supplied,
That haunts eternity...
That day when Mary's heartbeat stopped
In unison yet lived,
That time the Saviour's head had dropped,
With death His precious gift...
The Cross of Christ still bore His Blood,
Though Christ was in His tomb
And God observed that holy flood,
With hatred and with gloom...
Yet Christ had prayed, forgive them all,
They know not what they do...
So God sent preachers like Saint Paul,
Because Christ died... for you...

Surprise And Rejoice
You’ll be surprised what God can do, in ordinary men like me and you,
One day, very mundane at its best, could be by our Lord a simple test,
So that others working close to us, will see that it is The Lord you trust.
When things seem to be falling apart, God could be working in a heart.
When Christ bought us upon that tree, we became His for others to see,
Just how God works in a life, which has been purchase by Jesus Christ.
When things just don’t fall into place, I need to lean upon God’s Grace,
Allowing the peace of Christ to shine, showing I am His and He is mine.
When all is calm it may not show, the power of God they need to know,
A Power that helps you rise above, life’s lowest point through His Love.
Men you know are watching you, and some you don’t are watching too,
Wanting to see what you’re made of, mainly when the going gets tough.
Christ shall keep your head up high, when the things about you go awry,
Being God’s Light, as His spark, to watching hearts in midst of the dark.
Simply allow God to have His way, and He’ll walk you through your day,
And though you may not understand, trust God’s heart not God’s hand.
For He may take you to an unfair task, when your heart may want to ask,
Why God would allow in your life, what simply seems to be unfair strife.
Although it may bring your heart pain, don’t react, instead simply refrain,
And though it was not your choice, through God’s eyes, you will rejoice.
God's Precious Perfect Plan
Before my soul was granted here
Within my Mother's womb,
Until my birth when she was near
In my delivery room,
God held my soul within His hand,
Then bid me live my way,
Until the time I'd understand,
As I began to pray...
From that day forth, my fate was sealed,
Both good and bad to know,
Sometimes the road ahead concealed,
Then blindly I would go...
Amid the fog and snow and storm,
Amid the darkest night,
To question if God's love was warm
When there was no insight...
But dark days strengthen hearts of gold,
Though painful they may be
And yet what lessons we behold
From Christ and Calvary...
My youth was but a blur in time,
A streaming streak, no more,
But then I met the Lord sublime
And felt His love outpour...
This dream I dreamt changed everything,
I stood there on a hill
And in the distance, Christ the King,
Was on His Cross, not still,
For He was writhing there in pain,
A twisting silhouette,
To die for me, to clear sin's stain,
To pay off every debt...
Then suddenly, a beam of light
From Heaven shone straight down
Upon Christ's Cross with all God's might
And on Christ's briar crown...
Then light reflecting came my way,
Engulfing me with heat,
A golden glow as if to say,
Today in love we meet...
God's precious perfect plan was known,
Through Christ and Calvary...
God's love for me was clearly shown
For all eternity...
No more could I regard my dreams
As mine when Christ had died,
To concentrate upon my schemes,
Once He was crucified...
Though billions go to sleep each night,
Will they dream dreams like mine,
To stand within God's golden light
And shine and shine and shine?
Or will the darkness from closed eyes,
From closed thoughts and closed minds,
Cause them to never realise
God's prophecies and signs?
So I'm praying every hour
That mortal life extends,
For the Lord's love and His power,
On which each friend depends...
What is His plan? What must I do?
How best to save the lost?
Now saved, I must save others, too,
And not just count the cost...

From A Bleak Start
Another day that’s gray and bleak; and what a way to start the week.
But, as the weather changes friend, we too, could have a better end.
With the sun, the sky is brighter, and with The Lord a load is lighter.
When your heart is weighed down, only in Jesus, a Peace is found.
It always seems darkest when, your strength seems to be at its end,
That is when you will see The Lord, open for you a brand new door.
It’s always darkest before the light, as Christ Jesus breaks the night.
Then you see as you regain full sight, that everything will be all right.
So when your life seems overcast, you can be certain it will not last.
As the sun sheds away the gray, Jesus Christ will light up your way.
When in the darkness of this life, use the Light that’s found in Christ.
For Christ’s Light shines so bright, when the days are dark as night.
During these times, it is Christ, who guides you through all your life.
For He will not forsake you friend, indeed, He is with you to the end.
Through the week lean upon Him, Jesus will guide you in everything.
And all the gray will soon subside, as in Christ Jesus you fully abide,
Friend, others shall see your light, when their days are not so bright.
And any light that others can see, is just a small glimpse of eternity.
When Jesus will be The Light, that continually shines forever bright.
A time when all darkness will be, banished throughout all of eternity.
Never again shall we see night, as Christ my friend is Eternal Light.
A time when His Light won’t lack, so to the world we won’t look back.
It is this hope that is in our heart, that keeps us going from the start.
You will see by the week’s end, that it’s not like the beginning friend.
90 North
At home, in my flannel gown, like a bear to its floe,
I clambered to bed; up the globe's impossible sides
I sailed all night—till at last, with my black beard,
My furs and my dogs, I stood at the northern pole.
There in the childish night my companions lay frozen,
The stiff fur knocked at my starveling throat,
And I gave my great sigh: the flakes came huddling,
Were they really my end? In the darkness I turned to my rest.
—Here, the flag snaps in the glare and silence
Of the unbroken ice. I stand here,
The dogs bark, my beard is black, and I stare
At the North Pole . . .
And now what? Why, go back.
Turn as I please, my step is to the south.
The world—my world spins on this final point
Of cold and wretchedness: all lines, all winds
End in this whirlpool I at last discover.
And it is meaningless. In the child's bed
After the night's voyage, in that warm world
Where people work and suffer for the end
That crowns the pain—in that Cloud-Cuckoo-Land
I reached my North and it had meaning.
Here at the actual pole of my existence,
Where all that I have done is meaningless,
Where I die or live by accident alone—
Where, living or dying, I am still alone;
Here where North, the night, the berg of death
Crowd me out of the ignorant darkness,
I see at last that all the knowledge
I wrung from the darkness—that the darkness flung me—
Is worthless as ignorance: nothing comes from nothing,
The darkness from the darkness. Pain comes from the darkness
And we call it wisdom. It is pain.

Out of The Darkness
From the darkest dark of night, one can see the Savior’s Light,
As his eyes are open to see, God’s Eternal Truth from Calvary.
Once a captive to Satan’s ways, he leaves behind darker days,
Leaving behind a darker past, finding freedom in Christ at last.
Once hostage in Satan’s chains, and a victim to sin that reigns,
Now no longer spiritually blind, with all the darker days behind.
Entering into the Savior’s fold, leaving behind the ways of old,
Now embracing a brand new life, with The Savior, Jesus Christ.
Unshackled from sin and pain, by God’s Spirit he’s Born Again,
Born into God’s family above, one built upon the Savior’s Love.
Christ who loved us well before, we ever knew Him as our Lord,
With love that led Him to a cross, when we were so sinfully lost.
And this love will fill his heart, as from darkness he does depart,
As God also provides a peace, that in his heart will never cease.
And all this is done by Grace, as a sinner, he sought God’s face,
To learn to live his life down here, upon the earth in reverent fear.
Christ’s Light now guides his path, far from God’s pending Wrath,
As he faced God’s condemnation, when rejecting God’s salvation.
But, eternal damnation is erased, as His Truth has been embraced,
With one more soul, in Jesus Christ, added to God’s Book of Life.

The Thief On The Cross
Three crosses rose on Calvary against the iron sky,
Each with its living burden, each with its human cry.
And all the ages watched there, and there were you and I.
One bore the God incarnate, reviled by man's disdain,
Who through the woe he suffered for our eternal gain
With joy of infinite loving assuaged his infinite pain.
On one the thief repentant conquered his cruel doom,
Who called at last on Christ and saw his glory through the gloom.
For him after the torment souls of the blest made room.
And one the unrepentant bore, who his harsh fate defied.
To him, the child of darkness, all mercy was denied;
Nailed by his brothers on the cross, he cursed his God and died.
Ah, Christ, who met in Paradise him who had eyes to see,
Didst thou not greet the other in hell's black agony ?
And if he knew thy face, Lord, what did he say to thee?

A Glimpse Of Eternity
As I began to say a prayer, I saw God's curtains part,
Then came the vision, oh, so rare, at first it broke my heart...
I saw two angels fly above, one holy, peaceful, glad,
The other wicked, hateful, rough, tormentor of the sad...
One sang a hymn of righteousness, a tribute to the Lord,
The other silent, would not bless, determined to stay flawed...
Each then approached, my soul to take, they fought like cat and dog.
That day I prayed for mercy's sake surrounded by a fog...
My soul grew weary, darkness fell, the angels battled on...
Then suddenly, I was in Hell, all life on Earth was gone...
The Devil laughed to see me there, where darkness claimed each fool,
Instead of Heaven's light to share, where righteousness had rule...
But in the miry clay beyond this world and all there is,
Christ's grace released me from each bond and made the demons hiss.
They could not keep me chained, enslaved, in their foul Purgatory...
By faith, my wretched soul was saved, blood-cleansed by Calvary...
Thus I ascended from Hell's stench, born free, yes, born again,
As if all sins from me to wrench, now not like other men...
God's fire filled by veins anew, rekindling precious praise,
With tongues of angels shining through the dazzling rainbow haze...
I walked towards a palace now, adorned in precious gems,
And saw God's angels humbly bow, all crowned with diadems...
They welcomed me with open arms, as if with hearts of gold
And as Christ walked, they laid their palms, as in the days of old...
Christ stopped as He observed my face, He called me to His side,
I suddenly felt love's embrace and, oh, the tears I cried...
And as I wept, He wiped them all, this man who died for me...
Like Brother Peter, Brother Paul, I glimpsed eternity...

Temptations Pass You By
As I think about things in the darkness of night,
There is something that turns that darkness into light.
The darkest of night is presented by the things that happened and not planned,
And the Light is presented by what the Lord does for us and we try to understand.
So as we all walk and wander lost and go around,
We need to seek the LORD and ask him to help us get found.
This makes me want to make that I do everything for Christ and be fair,
Taking this time to develop the daily strength and discipline the bonding time and prayer.
It is also good for me to think of the positive things in life and put them in their place,
Living a life like this will keep Christ in your heart and showing of your face.
So as we think about the things that and go and tempt us from the start,
We should remember Do What Jesus Would Do in our heart.
By remember the Story of Jesus being tempted in the desert by Satan for 40 Days/Nights.
And how Jesus looked at him and then bent and prayed until He saw the True Light.
Satan asked Him if you are hungry and you are the Son of God then you can turn this stone to bread.
Jesus answered, and said I am the Son of God and man cannot live on bread alone, but on the words that come out of God's mouth instead.
As Satan took Christ up to the top of the Holy City, and He asked Christ if you the Son of God then throw yourself down and have the angles lift you up and prove me that you are the best.
Well Christ answered him that it is written not to put god to the test.
Finally Satan took Jesus up very high and showed him the kingdoms of the world and said this can be yours if you bend down and worship me.
Jesus looked at him and told to back away because it is written that I am here to worship my Father only.
But also think of the things that Christ would want us to do,
For God will help you and deliver you through.

Wrong Is Never Right
The Bible is clear about right and wrong and wrong is never right,
The two are as different as the light of day and the dark of night.
First, God Himself is Light and in Him there is no darkness at all,
Then man made in God's image slipped into darkness at Adam's fall.
From perfect fellowship with God into the lap of sin's dreaded curse,
Man is not evolving into something better, he's only getting worse.
Paul said that men and impostors will wax worse as we near the end,
And the heart's deceitful above all things and beyond cure my friend.
But Christ came as The Light of the world to offer all men new life,
This life one receives allows them to live above this world's strife.
Christ told His disciples in this world they would have tribulation,
He then said be of good cheer as He overcame the world's degradation.
Christ didn't come into the world to condemn those who were depraved,
But He came as The Light so out of this darkness some may be saved.
Men are not condemned who believed and His Light they have received,
But unbelievers are condemned, loving darkness they remain deceived.
He who believes can not stay in darkness for His Light lives within,
And as we walk in The Light, Christ's blood purifies us from all sin.
We were of the darkness but were saved to live as children of Light,
To live submitting to one another, out of reverence for Jesus Christ.
In Christ Alone - anyone
vs.1 In Christ alone, my hope is found?;
He is my light, my strength, my song?.
This Cornerstone, this solid ground?,
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm?.
What heights of love, what depths of peace?,
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease?.
My comforter, my all-in-all?.
Here in the love of Christ I stand.
vs.2 There in the ground His body lay?,
Light of the world by darkness slain?.
Then bursting forth in glorious day?,
Up from the grave He rose again!
And as He stands in victory?,
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me.
?For I am His and He is mine?,
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.
vs.3 No guilt in life, no fear in death;
?This is the power of Christ in me?.
From life's first cry to final breath?,
Jesus commands my destiny?.
No power of hell, no scheme of man?
Can ever pluck me from His hand,
?Till He returns or calls me home?,
Here in the power of Christ I'll stand.

Hymn 15
Our own weakness, and Christ our strength.
2 Cor. 12:7,9,10.
Let me but hear my Savior say,
"Strength shall be equal to thy day,"
Then I rejoice in deep distress,
Leaning on all-sufficient grace.
I glory in infirmity,
That Christ's own power may rest on me:
When I am weak, then am I strong,
Grace is my shield, and Christ my song.
I can do all things, or can bear
All suff'rings, if my Lord be there;
Sweet pleasures mingle with the pains,
While his left hand my head sustains.
But if the Lord be once withdrawn,
And we attempt the work alone,
When new temptations spring and rise,
We find how great our weakness is.
[So Samson, when his hair was lost,
Met the Philistines to his cost;
Shook his vain limbs with sad surprise,
Made feeble fight, and lost his eyes.]

A Heavy Heart
There’s a heaviness upon my heart, at times it seems to not depart.
But Christ who lives within my heart, will never leave me nor depart.
I need to focus more upon The Lord, for by Him I am never ignored.
I need to seek His lasting peace, a peace I known will never cease.
This heaviness will soon subside, for by The Lord I am not denied.
I will get through this present test, as He does for me what is best.
For His eyes are ever watching me, as I journey home to Eternity,
Underneath are His everlasting arms, protecting me from all harm.
I know that God will always care, even though I am feeling despair.
I must fully trust God’s loving hand, even when I do not understand.
For He watches me from up above, who am I to doubt God’s love?
Only He knows what’s best for me, especially in the light of Eternity.
I am simply one single man, in God’s all encompassing eternal plan.
And though I am only a tiny part, Christ shall never leave my heart.
So as the darkness envelopes me, I need to be mindful of Eternity.
For though it seems dark as night, I will soon see His Eternal Light.
Present darkness I need not fear, for I know Christ is always near.
His Grace is what saved me friend; and He will see me to the end.
The Lord when the time is right, shall at the end show me the light.
And once again His Light will shine, for I am His and Christ is mine.

Dark the shadows haunt the night
If I began to cry
The tears would never end
If I lowered my guard
Then how could I defend?
From every side the walls close in
And there is no place that you could stand
That would hide you from this world
And all that it demands
Whoever said that life was fair
Has not lived long enough
When the path takes you along the edge
You'll see them fall off the bluff
But the problem is
If your guard is high
You will wither away
And begin to die
How could something so small
Cast such a shadow on the land?
How was it that it stood so tall
Yet it was just a grain of sand?
I made my way through this world
With the Sun forever at my back
And the shadows went before me
And the shadow it was black
One grain of sand in my eye
Tormented me for many years
And I could never hope to fly
For I was blinded by my fears
Then Jesus came and turned me round
To face the rising Sun
His light it shone upon my face
And my journey had begun
When you walk into the Son
The shadows fall behind
The Sun removes the grain of sand
Now you're no longer blind
Who is your grain of sand my child
That made you stumble, made you fall?
In the light of Christ perhaps you'll find
That persons not so very tall
Dark the shadows haunt the night
That cause you to run and hide
Look to the Son that shines so bright
And He will shine that light inside
O to be filled with the light of Christ
And see the shadows disappear
To lift my eyes to heavens heights
And finally to shed a tear

One More Day's Work for Jesus
One more day’s work for Jesus,
One less of life for me!
But Heav’n is nearer, and Christ is clearer
Than yesterday, to me.
His love and light fill all my soul tonight.
Refrain
One more day’s work for Jesus,
One more day’s work for Jesus,
One more day’s work for Jesus,
One less of life for me!
One more day’s work for Jesus!
How sweet the work has been,
To tell the story, to show the glory,
Where Christ’s flock enters in!
How it did shine in this poor heart of mine.
Refrain
One more day’s work for Jesus!
O yes, a weary day;
But Heav’n shines clearer, and rest comes nearer,
At each step of the way;
And Christ in all, before His face I fall.
Refrain
O blessèd work for Jesus!
O rest at Jesus’ feet!
There toil seems pleasure, my wants are treasure,
And pain for Him is sweet.
Lord, if I may, I’ll serve another day!

Psalm 21
With a crown of gold upon His head
He is the king of the living and the dead
And all who are alive in Christ will see
That they once were bound but now are free
The power of life is in His hand
Yet in the darkness His enemies stand
And the light of Christ it shines from above
From darkness to light, from hatred to love
Into His hand God delivers them all
The great and the lowly, the short and the tall
And who can resist when Christ Knocks on the door
The broken, the crushed, the rich and the poor
Come one, come all come now in the day
Come now while there's light, with heads bowed to pray
And though you be many come shout with one voice
For salvation we praise you, in this we rejoice!

Your Light Has Come
In truth; God’s world, is hard to tell
Gross darkness clouds her mind
While Satan leads her brood to hell
She’s wicked proud and blind
You may not even like God’s child
Who stands within your sight
Sometimes I’ll even make you wild
Because I’m of “The Light”
God’s Light and darkness can’t agree
They can’t see eye to eye
That’s why you’re not at ease with me
No matter how you try
In love I come to speak of peace
No need to use your sword
Your Light has come, that you may cease
To hide from Christ the Lord
God’s Light is truth who comes to live
To touch with Love’s own hand
He comes to save God’s joy to give
And lead to understand
When light comes through an open door
All darkness must depart
Please bear with me a moment more
To shine within your heart
Allow God’s Light, to come to you
Let darkness disappear
In just a while you’ll feel brand new
There’ll be no need to fear
You’ll feel the Father’s love arrive
His warm reviving Light
And you yet dead He’ll bring alive
In Christ; to stand and fight.

Problem People
Problem people near and far, cause conflict wherever they are,
They Cause strife far and wide, stirred by darkness deep inside.
With no peace in their heart, conflict each day is bound to start.
Conflict for them is a way of life, causing many pain and strife.
Peace inside they don’t know, causing trouble wherever they go.
These men are part of the life, we’re warned of by Jesus Christ.
In the world there’s tribulation, and they’re found in every nation.
But we can be of good cheer; Jesus overcame trouble down here.
And these men can not hide, the darkness that’s deep down inside.
For in their eyes you can behold, what is inside deep in their soul.
If in their eyes you can see light, they could be somewhat contrite.
If in their eyes there is no light, they inside are dark as the night.
These are the scoffers friend, which Peter warned of in the end.
Bold and arrogant are these men, and by God will be condemned.
They’re like beasts of the field; to common sense they won’t yield.
Like the beasts they will perish, and for this, Christ we can cherish.
They will all be outside the gate, along with their anger and hate.
And this is the time that we await, as Christ’s return we anticipate.
No more darkness or strife, when with Jesus we enter Eternal Life,
And all the grief will be no more, as we cherish Christ forevermore.
