A Dedication. To Charlotte Cushman.
As Love will carve dear names upon a tree,
Symbol of gravure on his heart to be,
So thought I thine with loving text to set
In the growth and substance of my canzonet;
But, writing it, my tears begin to fall --
This wild-rose stem for thy large name's too small!
Nay, still my trembling hands are fain, are fain
Cut the good letters though they lap again;
Perchance such folk as mark the blur and stain
Will say, `It was the beating of the rain;'
Or, haply these o'er-woundings of the stem
May loose some little balm, to plead for them.

THE RELIGION OF LOVE
So thou but love me, dear, with thy whole heart
What care I for the rest, for good or ill?
What for the peace of soul good deeds impart,
What for the tears unholy dreams distil?
These cannot make my joy, nor shall they kill.
Thou only perfect peace and virtue art
And holiness for me and strength and will,
So thou but love me with a perfect heart.
I ask thee now no longer to be wise;
No longer to be good, but loving me.
I ask thee nothing now but only this.
Henceforth my Bible, dear, shall be thine eyes,
My beads thy lips, my prayers thy constancy,
My heaven thine arms, eternity thy kiss.

(That's What You Get) For Lovin' Me
That's what you get for loving me
That's what you get for loving me
Everything we had is gone, you can see
That's what you get for loving me
Now don't you shed a tear for me
I ain't the love you thought I'd be
I've had a hundred just like you
But don't be blue I'll have a thousand before I'm through
That's what you get for loving me
That's what you get for loving me
Everything we had is gone, you can see
That's what you get for loving me
Now there you go, you're cryin' again
You should have known how things would end
But then some day when your poor heart is on the mend
I just might pass this way again
That's what you get for loving me
That's what you get for loving me
Everything we had is gone, you can see
That's what you get for loving me
That's what you get for loving me
That's what you get for loving me
Everything we had is gone, you can see
That's what you get for loving me

I Say There's A Tree, A Horizon
Big tree
right outside my room
tell me when your flowers will bloom
big tree
a wars'a comin soon
this war'll bring you alotta doom
big tree
spread your leaves and fly
cuz you dont wanna be here when your flowers die
big tree
uproot yourself and run
run from the bullets and run from the guns
war
from the oceans to the land
no more water to fill your hands
flowers
I'll try to water you
but theres salt in my tears and that jus' wont do
big tree
they dont understand
that what they do effects your land
big tree
by you I've made a bed
and I ask you how this war moves us ahead
big tree
my friend whats the cost
if only they could see the faces of the lost
pinecone
shaped like a grenade
the grass where you lay is all I could save
big tree
where have your sisters gone?
to make more boxes to lay flags on?
big tree
where have your brothers gone?
to make more boxes to carve names on?

Birds Sing I Love You, Love
Birds sing "I love you, love" the whole day through,
And not another song can they sing right;
But, singing done with, loving's done with quite,
The autumn sunders every twittering two.
And I'd not have love make too much ado
With sweet parades of fondness and delight,
Lest iterant wont should make caresses trite,
Love-names mere cuckoo ousters of the true.
Oh heart can hear heart's sense in senseless nought,
And heart that's sure of heart has little speech.
What shall it tell? The other knows its thought.
What shall one doubt or question or beseech
Who is assured and knows and, unbesought,
Possesses the dear trust that each gives each.

These Things Will Keep Me Loving You
(harvey fuqua/johnny bristol/sylvia moy)
Oh and I know these things will keep me loving you dear
Say it again
These things will keep me loving you dear
A gentle touch upon my face baby
A tender kiss and a warm embrace honey
Oh a few kind words
Spoken so sincere
And I know and I know
These things will keep me loving you dear
These things will keep me loving you dear
Give me your shoulder so I can cry on it baby
Oh give me advice that I can rely on honey
Oh say you love me every day of the year
And I know and I know
These things will keep me loving you dear
Say it again
These things will keep me loving you dear
Oh and I know these things will keep me loving you dear
Oh baby baby
Call me each night on the telephone baby
Oh send me a card when youre far from home honey
Oh hold me close to you baby every time youre near
And I know and I know
These things will keep me loving you dear
Oh, loving you dear
[ad lib to fade]

Careless Heart
Roy orbison/diane warren/albert hammond
I had somebody, somebody who loved me.someone so good to me.
You were my angel, you were my heaven, but i was too blind to see.
I let you slip away, i guess i never knew.i had the world with you .
I'd be there, still be there in your arms.
If not for my careless heart.you'd still be loving me.
If not for my careless heart.you'd still be mine.
I wouldn't have this hurt inside.i wouldn't have this tears to cry.
If not for my careless heart.if not for my careless heart.
I had my chances,i took advantage.i took it all too far.
So now you're gone, and i'm all alone, alone with my lonely heart.
I let it fall apart,i didn't care enough.i lost your precious love.
You'd be here, still be here in my arms.
If not for my careless heart.you'd still be loving me.
If not for my careless heart.you'd still be mine.
I wouldn't have this hurt inside.i wouldn't have this tears to cry.
If not for my careless heart.if not for my careless heart.
You'd still be mine.
I'd be loving you, i'd be holding you,i'd be loving you.
If not for my careless heart.
I wouldn't have this hurt inside.i wouldn't have this tears to cry.
If not for my careless heart.if not for my careless heart.
If not for my careless heart.you'd still be loving me.
If not for my careless heart.you'd still be mine.
I wouldn't have this hurt inside.i wouldn't have this tears to cry.
If not for my careless heart.if not for my careless heart.
If not for my careless heart.you'd still be loving me.
You'd be loving me.you'd still be mine.
I wouldn't have this hurt inside
I wouldn't have these tears to cry....

Licia Sonnets 18
I swear, fair Licia, still for to be thine,
By heart, by eyes, by what I held most dear;
Thou checked mine oath, and said: these were not mine,
And that I had no right by them to swear.
Then by my sighs, my passions, and my tears,
My vows, my prayers, my sorrow, and my love,
My grief, my joy, my hope, and hopeless fears,
My heart is thine, and never shall remove.
These are not thine, though sent unto thy view,
All else I grant, by right they are thine own;
Let these suffice that what I swear is true,
And more than this if that it could be known.
So shall all these though troubles ease my grief;
If that they serve to work in thee belief.

Another (II)
As loving hind that (hartless) wants her deer,
Scuds through the woods and fern with hark'ning ear,
Perplext, in every bush and nook doth pry,
Her dearest deer, might answer ear or eye;
So doth my anxious soul, which now doth miss
A dearer dear (far dearer heart) than this.
Still wait with doubts, and hopes, and failing eye,
His voice to hear or person to descry.
Or as the pensive dove doth all alone
(On withered bough) most uncouthly bemoan
The absence of her love and loving mate,
Whose loss hath made her so unfortunate,
Ev'n thus do I, with many a deep sad groan,
Bewail my turtle true, who now is gone,
His presence and his safe return still woos,
With thousand doleful sighs and mournful coos.
Or as the loving mullet, that true fish,
Her fellow lost, nor joy nor life do wish,
But launches on that shore, there for to die,
Where she her captive husband doth espy.
Mine being gone, I lead a joyless life,
I have a loving peer, yet seem no wife;
But worst of all, to him can't steer my course,
I here, he there, alas, both kept by force.
Return my dear, my joy, my only love,
Unto thy hind, thy mullet, and thy dove,
Who neither joys in pasture, house, nor streams,
The substance gone, O me, these are but dreams.
Together at one tree, oh let us browse,
And like two turtles roost within one house,
And like the mullets in one river glide,
Let's still remain but one, till death divide.
Thy loving love and dearest dear,
At home, abroad, and everywhere

I have no thought in me but you
I have no thought in me but you
No other dear debt to me is due
If yet I have not all your love
I shall never have it all
I cannot breathe another burdening sigh
Nor entreat one more tear to fall
All my treasure, all my franchise fails to conquer my heart’s goal
Dreams and sighs, tears and oaths
Pleadings and pledges, letters and eulogies
I have spent; I have sent and no more can be done by me
If by now still your gift of love is partial
That some to me, some should to others fall
Oh my Dear, Dear soul! ! !
I shall never have you all
In pleasant pains, in sweet aching, in agonizing aches
I shall never have what my heart yearns my body shakes
I have no desire in me but you
In me but empty ways and futile clues
If then you ever gave me all
All was but all, which you had then
But if in your heart, since there was
New love created by other men
Which have their entire stocks put
In tears, in sighs, in oaths and letters to outbid me
This new love may foster new fears
For this love was not vowed by you dear
And yet it was your gift to others
Gnaw my inwards to pieces and to utters
Yet, your heart the ground of all your love
Is mine, and whatever shall grow there
I shall have it all
Yet, I would not have it all yet
He that has all can have no more
And since my love has the nature of the wind
Every day admits new growth
Every hour commits new change, deems a new dream
You should have new rewards in store
Let our love leaves through the door
You cannot give me your heart every day
If you can give it, then you never gave it
The quest of having it all
And yet not losing it at all
If we in all shall be one
And one another all
Be it all, partial or not at all
All my souls be
Imparadise in you
In whom alone I comprehend grow and see
The rafters of my body bone and brain
Be all still with you, in you and about you
The muscle, sinew and vein
Revive, thrive, renew again

A Nightmare
I dreamed that I was dead. The years went by:
The world forgot that such a man as I
Had ever lived and written: other names
Were hailed with homage, in their turn to die.
Out of my grave a giant beech upgrew.
Its roots transpierced my body, through and through,
My substance fed its growth. From many lands
Men came in troops that giant tree to view.
'T was sacred to my memory and fame
My monument. But Allen Forman came,
Filled with the fervor of a new untruth,
And carved upon the trunk his odious name!

I.
O Age that half believ'st thou half believ'st,
Half doubt'st the substance of thine own half doubt,
And, half perceiving that thou half perceiv'st,
Stand'st at thy temple door, heart in, head out!
Lo! while thy heart's within, helping the choir,
Without, thine eyes range up and down the time,
Blinking at o'er-bright science, smit with desire
To see and not to see. Hence, crime on crime.
Yea, if the Christ (called thine) now paced yon street,
Thy halfness hot with His rebuke would swell;
Legions of scribes would rise and run and beat
His fair intolerable Wholeness twice to hell.
`Nay' (so, dear Heart, thou whisperest in my soul),
`'Tis a half time, yet Time will make it whole.'
II.
Now at thy soft recalling voice I rise
Where thought is lord o'er Time's complete estate,
Like as a dove from out the gray sedge flies
To tree-tops green where cooes his heavenly mate.
From these clear coverts high and cool I see
How every time with every time is knit,
And each to all is mortised cunningly,
And none is sole or whole, yet all are fit.
Thus, if this Age but as a comma show
'Twixt weightier clauses of large-worded years,
My calmer soul scorns not the mark: I know
This crooked point Time's complex sentence clears.
Yet more I learn while, Friend! I sit by thee:
Who sees all time, sees all eternity.
III.
If I do ask, How God can dumbness keep
While Sin creeps grinning through His house of Time,
Stabbing His saintliest children in their sleep,
And staining holy walls with clots of crime? --
Or, How may He whose wish but names a fact
Refuse what miser's-scanting of supply
Would richly glut each void where man hath lacked
Of grace or bread? -- or, How may Power deny
Wholeness to th' almost-folk that hurt our hope --
These heart-break Hamlets who so barely fail
In life or art that but a hair's more scope
Had set them fair on heights they ne'er may scale? --
Somehow by thee, dear Love, I win content:
Thy Perfect stops th' Imperfect's argument.
IV.
By the more height of thy sweet stature grown,
Twice-eyed with thy gray vision set in mine,
I ken far lands to wifeless men unknown,
I compass stars for one-sexed eyes too fine.
No text on sea-horizons cloudily writ,
No maxim vaguely starred in fields or skies,
But this wise thou-in-me deciphers it:
Oh, thou'rt the Height of heights, the Eye of eyes.
Not hardest Fortune's most unbounded stress
Can blind my soul nor hurl it from on high,
Possessing thee, the self of loftiness,
And very light that Light discovers by.
Howe'er thou turn'st, wrong Earth! still Love's in sight:
For we are taller than the breadth of night.

Loving Blind
Well I sit here all alone
No ones gonna do me wrong tonight
It seems Ive been through it all
And theres no one I could call to get it right
And everywhere I go
Everyone seems so settled in
And sure of where theyre going
Well I dont know what I need
Since Ive been freed
Im a horse without a rider
And theres no one left to take the lead
Ive been loving blind
Loving every heart I could call mine
Ive been loving blind
So sure there was something I could find
But I just couldnt see
There was nothing there for me
Now theres a smile on my face
No theres no trace of the pain
I know Ive been through it all
And I know those tears wont fall again
But oh the times I thought
Someones heart Id caught
Well, I was fooled oh and I regret
I was so naive
Oh and Id believe them when theyd tell me
Thats as good as love can get
And Ive been loving blind
Loving every heart I could call mine
And Ive been loving blind
So sure there was something I could find
But I just couldnt see
There was nothin there for me

Love Knocking
Love, Love, Love,
A loving heart calling.
A loving heart inspired.
A loving heart filled with hopes.
Love, Love, Love.
Sharing, Tasting, Smelling,
Loving all, Loving Life.
Love strengthening the soul,
The soul enlightening the heart,
The heart inspiring the body,
Pumping Love, Loving to pump.
Oh Love, Come on in,
Welcome home,
This is your heart,
Spread all around,
state of love.

A Woman in me
It's an inbuilt pride to be a woman
A world of our own besides every man
Passion being a woman of substance
With unending love and endearing instance
Words of wisdom that streams up
The spread of affection that stems tuff
The strangeness of the soul and mind
All the relationships that we bind
A Pride of being a great daughter
A perfect Mother and a passionate partner
I love myself for being a woman
A woman of a defined style and substance
The thought that we are not rot
Is what that really makes us hot!
An unseen fire in woman can change destiny
A foreseen thought can shape this country
No more a gender of vulnerability
We are the best with the tranquillity
Be Proud, as a WOMAN
For without you, there is no man
Be Proud, that we create this world
Its we, who can rule the land being bold
We are the symbol of pure love and Gold
A Syndicate to Success of the mankind
For we are with love and always Kind

Lovers' Infiniteness
IF yet I have not all thy love,
Dear, I shall never have it all;
I cannot breathe one other sigh, to move,
Nor can intreat one other tear to fall;
And all my treasure, which should purchase thee,
Sighs, tears, and oaths, and letters I have spent;
Yet no more can be due to me,
Than at the bargain made was meant.
If then thy gift of love were partial,
That some to me, some should to others fall,
Dear, I shall never have thee all.
Or if then thou gavest me all,
All was but all, which thou hadst then;
But if in thy heart since there be or shall
New love created be by other men,
Which have their stocks entire, and can in tears,
In sighs, in oaths, and letters, outbid me,
This new love may beget new fears,
For this love was not vow'd by thee.
And yet it was, thy gift being general;
The ground, thy heart, is mine; what ever shall
Grow there, dear, I should have it all.
Yet I would not have all yet.
He that hath all can have no more;
And since my love doth every day admit
New growth, thou shouldst have new rewards in store;
Thou canst not every day give me thy heart,
If thou canst give it, then thou never gavest it;
Love's riddles are, that though thy heart depart,
It stays at home, and thou with losing savest it;
But we will have a way more liberal,
Than changing hearts, to join them; so we shall
Be one, and one another's all.

Give to Love
Love came knocking on thy door
With you in sight to love and adore
But thine did give
All that thou have and
need to live?
You gave thine lips for love to speak
You gave thine heart for love's heart's weak
You gave thine face, to love to trace
its tears across thee a sorrowful place
thou give to thy loss when it comes to love!
You gave thine soul to love's control
You gave love thy hand to hold
You gave thy feet for love to kiss
You gave thy happiness to love's bliss
You gave thy breast for love to touch
You gave thine body for love to clutch.
But what did love give thee?
Love took and took and left thee with nothing!
With nothing now you are at peace, thou art free!
This is what love did to me!

The Loving Tree
Three women walked upon a road,
And the first said airily,
“Of all the trees in all the world
Which is the loving tree?”
The second said, “My eyes have seen
No tree that is not fair;
But the Orange tree is the sweetest tree,
The loving blood is there.”
And the third said, “In the green time
I knew a loving tree
That gave a drink of the blood-red milk,
It was the Mulberry.”
Then the first one said, “Of all the trees
No sweetest can I name;
Ask her who yonder slowly comes—
That woman lean and lame.”
Grief like a hideous suckling hung
Along her hollow breast,
Pain was upon her as she walked,
And as she stooped to rest.
“Why will you question so?” she said,
“Is it to mock at me?
For how should I, who walk in Hell,
Know of a loving tree?
“My eyes are not as woman's eyes,
They hope not east or west:
Dull Famine my bed-mate is,
And Loneliness my guest.
“ 'Tis not the most delicious flower
That leaves the scent of Spring,
Nor is it yet the brightest bird
That loads his heart to sing.
“A tree may dance in the white weather
Or dream in a blue gown,
A tree may sing as a sweetheart
To bid the stars come down:
“Some trees are slim and lovable
And some are sleek and strong,
But the tree that has the cripple's heart
Will know the cripple's song.
“The sweetest death is the red death
That comes up nakedly,
And the tree that has the foiled heart
It is the loving tree.
“While ever lip shall seek for lip,
While ever light shall fall,
The tree that has the ruined heart
Is tenderest of all.
“Oh, ye may have your men to kiss,
And children warm to hold,
But the heart that had the hottest love
Was never yet consoled.”
The women three walked on their way,
Their shamed eyes could see
How well the tree with the foiled heart
Is still the loving tree.

I'll Be Loving You
Yeah
I'm not that kind of guy who can take a broken heart
So don't ever leave
I don't want to see us part
The very thought of losing you means
That everything
Would go down under
Chorus:
I'll be loving you forever
Just as long as you want me to be
I'll be loving you forever
All this love's for you and me, yeah
(I'll be loving you)
I'll be
(I'll be loving you)
Loving you
(The things you do)
Yeah, it's forever
(I'll be loving you)
I'll be
(I'll be loving you)
Loving you, yeah
I count the blessings that keep our love new
There's one for me
And a million for you
There's just so much that I want to say
But when I look at you
All my thoughts get in the way
Chorus
We've learned to fall to every turn by now
This love will last forever
I can see it all now
(I'll be loving you)
I'll be
(I'll be loving you)
Loving you
(The things you do)
Yeah, it's forever
(I'll be loving you)
I'll be
(I'll be loving you)
Loving only you, girl
Oh girl
I'll be loving only you
(I'll be loving you)
(I'll be loving you)
Be loving you girl
