The poems are far away
The thoughts far away also
The heat is too great
And the discomfort difficult
Waiting is not easy
Even if it is only for a few hours-
Soon the birthday guests will assemble
They will sing to me and say kind things about me
I will try in my way to thank and bless them-
It has been a long road
Those who put me on it
Are no longer here-
Now there are for me only the younger generations
Thank G-d for them-
May G-d protect them and enable them to flourish in the years to come
And may I go on for a while also.

My birthday was different this year
As I was rummaging through
the file boxes my wife had left for me
in the garage
I found a yellow legal pad
scribbled with hand written poems
I had written one night
in a almost crowded coffeehouse
waiting for a poet friend from Chicago
to come up north to read
The poems talked about
how I waited and waited
before too long
several anxious poets
ran up to the microphone
not afraid to trip over themselves
share their delicate poems
about romance and almost romance
detailing having a job they don't like
and it seemed to me
they were also not liking much else about their lives
besides their job they didn't like
My Chicago artist friend as usual
was more then an hour late
which isn't bad considering Chicago
is almost three hours away
so most other places
damn, she would have been early
When I read the poem
I wrote about being at a reading
I didn't want to be at
I realized I was spending my birthday
by myself in a coffeehouse
writing poems
not making much eye contact
with people I didn't even like
although one of the poets
I think Francine is her name
came up to me during a break and said 'hi'
but she didn't remember my name
or knew it was my birthday
and a couple of days after my anniversary
or that I was getting a divorce
that poem I read
was a good sign of things to come
because this year
on my birthday
I woke up with a new friend in my bed
multiple orgasms for her to share
before having a nice breakfast together
of eggs, sausage, hash browns and italian toast
cooked on the George Foreman grill
and things didn't look or feel
the same again

Happy Belated Birthday Andy
For my friend Andrew Mark Wilkinson
To Andy, I call him a friend,
but some friend I seem to be,
when I let his birthday pass by,
without saying Happy Birthday.
Therefore, I must apologise
for my oversight my friend.
Although this is nine days late,
May I take this time to say
I hope you had a wonderful Birthday.
I have no excuses for overlooking
a friend from my Birthday poem list.
As I read Andy’s poems almost daily,
I feel guilty that I overlooked his Birthday.
Andy is our resident Romantic poet,
whose poems of love and passion
fills quite a few with joy,
and whose friendship I value.
He writes from the heart
of loves entanglement there,

As A New Road Opens Now 1156
As April with her showers sweet prepares the ground for Summer [w]heat,
A mother, Beauty's mirror, here for verses calls, both far and near.
Response from heart not art shines clear as verse verse follows, all do steer
One theme, one dream, 'Let all compete to make his day with joy complete! '
New stanza flows to stanza greet upon the screen where thrones love's seat.
Al good things wishing for this year which marks a turning point, frontier
A long the way as little man emerges from the toss and cheer,
'Run, now its bedtime, you're dead beat' a greater challenge new to meet,
On schools, why rules, why not to cheat, learning, earning. Litte feet

I knew a girl
I knew a gorgeous blonde girl that thought
that she was stuck to her thirties
and some injections,
some erotic exercises,
and plastic surgery
made her curves shapely,
her boobs firm
and her face younger
than her years
and when she was forty nine

A Valentine Mystery
The day is drawing near,
Valentine day is here,
I have not heard from
Karina: the one I hold so dear
As all my poems does she read,
Comments on a few,
Gives me courage, to carry on,
This I must do.
As writing a new valentine not an easy task,
After all many years gone by, I sent out quite a few.
The thoughts all there, memories too.
The only thing gone wrong is whom I sent them to.
As any girl with ponytails, I knew what I had to do.
Many years gone by waiting for an answer this they never do.
As I left no forwarding address just hoping that they knew.
Some day I hope to get a Valentine from someone,
even if they don’t sign their name, I’ll think it’s just from you.
I be 83 my heart still has a spot, waiting just for you.
