Fear Does Not Write Happy Lines

FEAR DOES NOT WRITE HAPPY LINES

Fear does not write happy lines-
Anxiety does not sing -
The soul is not uplifted
With the next medical test.

Life is a song
But it is not just a song-
Happiness is real
But it is not the only reality.

Now for the days ahead
The quiet fear and waiting
And the poem that becomes a troubling question.

A Poem For Those Who Are Sad

did Octavio say that happiness
and charm are cliches?
did he really mean that he
shall write about those who
labor in pain
about those who stopped
smiling because of the
harsh rain
about those who hide
because of the coming storm?

he could be right
not writing about the cliches of
happy days

for they have all enough
that make the sweet syrups
of their eating lives

let me write a poem for those
who are sad
for those who have less

let me write about the opening
of a flower
about the butterflies moving
out from their cocoons

let me write about the
end of the bitter days
for they have less and now

they may have more
through my lines

let me write about the
rising of the sun
the waking up of the boy
from his sleep
and the beginning
of his play on the yard
with his bike

let me write more
about what i really like...

A Song About You

If I could write a song
I’d write a song about you

I would write about how
You’re all I can every think about
How you flood my dreams each night
How thinking of you takes my breath away
When I look up to the satellites

If I could write a song
I’d write a song about you

I would write about how
The long lost butterflies returned
How I hope my number you’ll dial
And how your memory smothers me with smiles

If I could write a song
I’d write a song about you

I would write about how
You were the only one
Who had enough of me to break my heart
And when love took over my heart
You tore it all apart.

If I could write a song
I’d write a song about you

I would write about how
I gave you my heart
Caught up in the thought
That we were off to a great start
But how you threw a damn dart
Right into the center of my heart

If I could write a song
I’d write a song about you
About how you crushed my heart
Not bothering to look back.

If I could write a song
I’d write a song about you

Song For Mary

Written by: james henman
When I try to find
Words that wish to rhyme
I will never write this song for her tonight
We have stood alone
We have walked alone
Wont you help write this song for her tonight
Help me write this song
Help me write this song
Help me write her song
Tonight
When I try to pray
I cant start to say
All those things I wish to say to her tonight
When she hears her song
She will sing along
She will know the words her heart for me to find
Will you help write this song
Help me write this song
Help me sing her song
Tonight
All these words Ive said
Lyin on my bed
Will they help me sleep alone again tonight
And we have walked alone
We have talked alone
Will you help me sing her song for her tonight
Will you help me sing her song
Help me sing her song
Help me sing her song

The Poem I Did Not Write Today

THE POEM I DID NOT WRITE TODAY

The poem I did not write today
Will never be written.
No one knows what it is
Or where it is
'How it can be? ' is another question
No one can answer.

The poem I did not write today
Never went away
It is always here with me and with you
It is the same simple poem
Written over and over again
In our everyday minds.

It is the poem of love of life
The poem of happiness
The poem of belief in God
And in the goodness in the world to come
It is the poem which believes too that poetry will help save the world.

It is the good poem
The happy poem
The poem I did not write today
Is the poem my life is writing now and always
And with you it says
‘What a miracle it is that we are here
reading and writing
and loving life as we do’.

And I My Poem/I Could Not Write

AND I MY POEM/ COULD NOT WRITE

And I my poem
Could not write
Because I heard
Another light.

And fear and far
So deep in me
Distanced my Eternity.

But suddenly my soul in strain
Heard its song once again
And for this little interval
I dare not let myself be still

Instead I’ll laugh and sing again
And play and pray
Until my end -

And nothing in this night or death
Will ever let my mind forget
That I need God
Whatever I do
God and me and also you.

Read read this little poem I pray
This is my blessing for this day.

How Can One Sing A Song Of Joy In A Land Of Pain?

HOW CAN ONE SING A SONG OF JOY IN A LAND OF PAIN?

How can one sing a song of joy in a land of pain?
Is it wise to be kind if happiness is false?
How can one give love when one is not loved?
Or hope when one is deep in one’s own hopelessness?
How can one teach Joy
When one is not in Joy?

We are what we are
Not what we know we should be-
Oh these poems of doubt and question and fear and despair-
Why must I write you?
And not the songs of happiness and love I would give?

I Fear My Own Silence

I FEAR MY OWN SILENCE

I fear my own silence
I fear the end in life in writing
Before my life has ended-
I force myself to go on
I feel my own inadequacy
I feel I am writing poor lines.
I sense it would make more sense to stop
I should stop
I can’t stop
I need to write
Even if my writing is only the scribbling of an amateur fool who has wasted his life in words and more words
I write this now in the darkness before the morning has begun
Will I walk to Shul this morning justified?
Or do I know these lines now too
More of the same self- indulgent nonsense
No one needs but myself?

Fear of...

Fear of one thing
Fear of many things
Fear of winning nothing, but just losing
Fear of life and what is called death
Fear of being too happy, only to get hurt again
Fear of something becoming nothing
Fear of losing something of much value
Fear of love becoming hate
Fear of being liked or disliked, is of the same
Fear of misunderstanding what is understood by others
Fear is of many things
But what makes fear?

Fears of a teenage mafioso

Fear of love,
Fear of pain,
Fear of the unforgiving cane,
Fear of lies,
Fear of sighs,
Fear of those distraught eyes,
Fear for the unknown,
Fear for the known,
Fear of everything combined,
Fear is what makes me blind,
Fear is what makes me think,
and act in blind accordance,
Hindering the world around me,
Hence, My Fear of myself
Fear is when you run away,
Fear is when you’re scared to love someone,
Fear is when the sky turns grey,
Fear of confusion,
Fear is like a dark blue ocean,
Fear won’t let me escape
Fear mocks me, watching
Fear taunts me, waiting
Fear of losing,
Fear you cannot see,
Fear dealt upon thee.
Fear of darkness and death,
Fear of a dead comrade,
Fear of a gun being cocked,
Fear of being endlessly stalked,
Fear of time,
Fear of all the crime,
Fear of the undesirable truth,
Fear for the good.
Fear for the sake of life,
Fear of the neighbors next door,
Fear of the secretive man in the subway,
Fear of the revolutionary uproar,
Fear is to not rejoice your living,
Fear for the sake of your life,
But to fear is to forsake it.
Fear is to have no hope in life,
Fear of the fear of fear,
We need no reason to fear,
For fear has no reason for itself.
I guess life is just like that,
To fear for no reason,
For to fear is not to reason,
But to reason is to fear.
To fear for the sake of fear,
Is fear for fear,
So let me think,
What else do I fear?
What else do I fear?
What else do I fear?

There is no Fear

The people of this world, if against they stand,
There is no fear, there is no fear, nothing like fear.

Although, we are counted cheap and rebuked,
There is no fear , there is no fear , nothing like fear.

If to beg for food, would be a life attained,
There is no fear , there is no fear , nothing like fear.

Loveable possessions if, are lost,
There is no fear , there is no fear , nothing like fear.

2. If clothed bosomed damsels, cast their eyes
There is no fear , there is no fear , nothing like fear.

Poison in the mouth, if fed by friends
There is no fear , there is no fear , nothing like fear.

Shielded armies, if to attack approach
There is no fear , there is no fear , nothing like fear.

On the acme of my head, if the sky did crash and plummet down
There is no fear , there is no fear , nothing like fear.

I read another poet I could not understand

I READ ANOTHER POET I COULD NOT UNDERSTAND

I read another poet I could not understand
The metaphors racing one after the other
The eternal thoughts taking on a new particular dress
Words and more words
Lines and more lines
Rushing toward meaning and beauty.

And in it all my simple not understanding,
My waiting to hear words that would return to me-
My understanding
That only by my own effort
By my reading again and again
By my willing to believe
Could I make another poet real.

But do I want another poet to be real
When I am a question,
And when there are already others real for me also?

Oh selfish little man oh poor poor reader-

Write your poem alone again
As if no one but you will ever be able to write
The poems which are real.

Losing Life to Fear

In fear of being heard,

In fear of being understood,

In fear of not being heard,

In fear of not being understood,

In fear of being misheard,

In fear of being misunderstood,

In fear of hearing too much,

In fear of understanding too much,

In fear of saying too much,

In fear of saying too little,

In fear of being too enlightened,

In fear of not being factually correct,

In fear of being too bright,

In fear of being too ignorant,

In fear of being praised,

In fear of being bullied,

In fear of not being like others,

In fear of loosing my individuality,

In fear of being ostracized,

In fear of being camouflaged,

In fear of being the attraction,

In fear of being ignored,

In fear of being too different,

In fear of being too common,

In fear of following others,

In fear of disobeying others,

In fear of being too gullible,

In fear of being too stubborn,

In fear of being used,

In fear of being misused,

In fear of rewards,

In fear of punishments,

In fear of responsibility,

In fear of expectations,

In fear of being trusted,

In fear of being mistrusted,

In fear of your lack of response,

In fear of your over-reaction,

In fear of eternal silence,

In fear of noisy communication,

In fear of your acceptance,

In fear of your rejection,

In fear of exciting you,

In fear of upsetting you,

In fear of loving you,

In fear of hating you,

In fear of your love,

In fear of your hatred,

In fear of being loved,

In fear of being hated,

In fear of thinking,

In fear of existing,

In fear of living,

In fear of dying,

In fear of being myself,

In fear of being another,

In fear of knowing myself,

In fear of neglecting myself,

I lost my voice;

I lost my identity;

I lost my self.

I lost this life;

I lost my life;

I lost life's life.

I Walk And Lines Come To Me

I WALK AND LINES COME TO ME

I walk and lines come to me-
Then I stop somewhere
And wait for more lines
To complete them-
Then when I am at home
I rewrite them-
Then I listen to them inside me
Again and again,
And when I hear that they are not right
I try to find what is missing for them,
Write and write again
Until reading it to myself
It sounds as it should be.

And when I am done
I am quiet inside,
As if all the Hope in the world
could be reborn
through a poem.

Good to write poems

I want everyone in theworld
To write poems
Poems is the best to happy writing
Anger sad and pain
Which you write it in poems
Heal faster and better
Than any medicine in theworld
Because I know I write
In anger sad pain and much joy
Romance exotic and love
Society reality and life
Religion GOD and fantasia
I write what I feel and heard
Peaceful within, no more hurt or sad
Anger all to happiness and
Forgiveness you find
Solution you get
The joy the fulfillment
The happy feeling and heal
I can’t felt it until each poem I write

An Encyclopedia of Fear (To Ron Oliver)

There's primal fear like a fetus blinded by daylight
There's lingering fear like a zit growing on your nose
There's groundless fear like a dark day covered by a clear night
There's inarticulate fear like a little fish wolfed down by a shark
There's sudden fear like a demon startled by an unfamiliar ghost
There's mortal fear like a soul baffled by heavenly hell
There's fake fear like a popstar blowing his/her lines
There's undying fear like boomerang returning to hit you hard
There's cryptic fear like a stranger ringing at your doorbell
There's fatal fear like falling prey to a predator
There's introverted fear we've invented by ourselves
And have to live with it.

A Happy Song

I need to write
A happy song tonight
To find that tune
And touch the moon
Caressed by the light
It feels so right
Cause not every night
You're holding me tight

I have to write
A happy song tonight
To find that rhythm
Of the heart's hymn
To be one with the beat
Of your laughter so sweet
Cause not every night
I feel so right

And the stars will be dancing
To this happy song I've written
And the clouds will be singing
With thunder's heavy drummin'
Cause not every night
We surrender and not fight

Let's feel the music
Of this happy song, its so sick
Breathe in, give in
I will make you live again

And the stars will be dancing
To this happy song I've written
And the clouds will be singing
With thunder's heavy drummin'
Cause not every night
We surrender and not fight

This happy song I write
For this happy night

This happy song
This happy night.

The Pen Goes Dry

How I wish I could write
That life's a bed of roses,
It's not one hell of a fight
With ugly wounds and bloody noses,

Just one happy fairy tale
Where no one ever fails.
No heartache there for you and I,
A stage where eyes are always dry.

I'll write of sorrow and of pain
Of standing up to rise again.
I'll write of things as I know best:
That indeed life is a running test.

Why fear vulnerability-
When life is fearful reality?
It is an ugly battlefield-
And denial will not be my shield.

Why hide the shame, the pain, the falling?
That's where you'll find a lot of learning.
To shirk from truth is to live a lie,
That's when my pen will go dry.

There Are Those Who Wait Years To Write A Poem

THERE ARE THOSE WHO WAIT YEARS TO WRITE A POEM

There are those who wait years to write a poem
The fruit slowly ripens inside and then as with Rilke
It suddenly falls -

There are those who write a few lines
And come back time after time
And find the poem after many efforts-

There are those who cannot wait to write a poem
And once conscious of it must write it down as fast as possible
Before it is lost-

And there are those who only in the present writing
Find the poem -

The page suffers many methods and modes

But what truly makes a poem worthy
Is another question.

To Sing And Be Happy

TO SING AND BE HAPPY

To sing and be happy
Is a great good in life-
To sing with others
And be happy
Is also a great good-
Song is a gift
As poetry is
As whatever lifts the Soul
Closer to G-d is.
We are the song and the poem
And we are the Prayer also.

I Was On The Edge Of A Certain Happiness

I WAS ON THE EDGE OF A CERTAIN HAPPINESS

I was on the edge of a certain happiness-
I heard the quietness restored inside-
I began to believe in my life again.
Joy was longing for my anticipation of it –
Happiness again?
Who can believe?
Why should God give this?
What have I in all my questioning and doubt
Done to deserve it?
Who knows maybe this year
Pesach will be as it should be-
Joy and quiet gladness again-
A sense of peace-
I am happy as I write these lines now.
