Can A Poem Bring Me Peace?
Can a poem bring me peace?
Can it silence for a short time
The deep doubt and uncertainties
That trouble my existence?
Can it take me away to its own calm mood,
And leave me singing inside happily?
Can a small poem bring me peace now
And let me rest
From the endless turmoil of my own agonizing mind?
Can I simply lie down in its words and sleep quietly with it?
Can a Poem bring me peace
Even if only for a small time now?

This Poem Is Not A Dream
THIS POEM IS NOT A DREAM
This poem is not a dream
It comes from where so many true poems come
From the other side of the mind
When it does not know peace -
From the waking desire
The hunger that is not satisfied
The lonely life and the lonely mind-
It comes from the search for love
And the love itself – the joy of love-
And from the memory of what we most deeply know when we are ourselves in love of another-
This poem is not a dream-
It comes from the waking world and the waking words-
The hard truths the bitter small things
The disappointments and rejections
The endless small humiliations which Time and Chance make of us all-
This poem comes from where we are most human
With the pain of those closest to us-
And our longing to save them and be loved forever by them-
The dream is not the poem
Life in its all its endless difficulties is the poem
And this poem too
Does not say half of all the hurt I have suffered in this one small day alone.

I Would Write A Quiet Poem
I WOULD WRITE A QUIET POEM
I would write a quiet poem.
There is so much noise in the world.
A poem to be read in silence
A poem to give comfort and rest
A poem of peace
Of mind and soul.
A quiet poem
Against all the furies and pains of this world
A poem of peace
Restful as the most bliss-filled sleep.

The Poem The Poem And The Poem Again
THE POEM‘ THE POEM AND THE POEM AGAIN’
‘The poem the poem and the poem again’
Isn’t there any life without poetry?
Why is it always ‘The poem the poem the poem’?
Let it be some other dream
Or some other small facet of our endless realities
Why always ‘The poem the poem the poem? ’
The poet who lives and dies for the poem
Is only one kind of poet
And perhaps not even a good one.

A Poem Is Just A Poem
a poem is just a poem and if it is just a poem
it must be just a poem just like another poem
a poem is nothing but just a poem otherwise
it cannot be my poem; it may speak about
anything, or something, or about everything,
but my poem is just a poem just like anybody's
poem, which is just but a poem, like any other
poem, for a poem to be a poem it must just be
a poem: it has nothing to do with my love, and death
my life, or bliss, but as i have told you, once, twice
thrice, eat some rice, and be that wise, a poem is
just a poem, just like your poem. Why do you insist
on asking, what is happening to me? I am not a
poem, for i am but just the composer of the poem,
need i tell you again, that a poem is just a poem?
just like any other poem, which is just a poem
it is just a voice in my head that i have heard
someone comes and speaks and i listen so
this poem is not actually my poem but the poem
of someone else's: theirs not mine, from a mind.

The Poem About The Poem
The poem about the poem
And what is a poem?
And what is a poet?
And will the poem
Save me?
Help you?
And is writing the poem
The best I can do?
Or is it only words and more words?
Is the poem about the poem
For the poet only?
Or for each one reading and speaking and hearing it?
The poem about the poem
On this sunny spring Jerusalem morning
Peace and happiness in me -
The poem about the poem
For now.

What Poem Can The Night Bring?
WHAT POEM CAN THE NIGHT BRING?
What poem can the night bring?
The poem of darkness?
The poem of silence?
The poem of infinite unrest?
What poem can the night bring?
When the night itself does not know its own meaning,
And all its quiet darkness says only:
A man alone cannot live as one.
A man alone can only write,
Until somewhere else
Somehow
He is heard.

Where Silence and Peace and Morning Sun/ Are
WHERE SILENCE AND PEACE AND MORNING SUN /ARE
Where Silence and Peace and Morning Sun
are
There is the Poem.
Where Quiet of the Soul is
There, the Poem.
The Poem is the Love of Life
in the Gentle Day and the Quiet Night
of this small Jerusalem garden
I sit and write in now.

If There Is No Peace In Me
IF THERE IS NO PEACE IN ME
If there is no peace in me
If there is no calm
How dare I try
To write a poem?
Still by stopping and standing here now
The gentle breeze
The quiet greens and yellows of this park
Bring uneasy calm back to me.
And I write a few lines
By which I try
To justify
My problematic existence.

Is There Time For A Poem?
Is there time for a poem
In a world of other sounds?
Is there time for a poem
When songs cannot be heard?
Is there time for a poem
In a time when fear is everywhere?
Is there time for a poem
When no one knows the way to help?
Is there time for a poem
In the darkest time, in the time of no way out?
Is there time for a poem
Any time a person alone
Cannot dare to breathe their own Name
Against the silence of the night?
2.
Is there time for a poem now
When all is so light and bright
There is nothing not even evil to fear
And all the world is singing and saying words of beauty?

The Poem Of The Evening
THE POEM OF THE EVENING
The poem of the evening
Is a small poem
It waits for its own words
And hears itself come slowly and surely
It knows by the time the darkness is here
It will already be real.
The poem of the evening
Is an easy and small poem
It may not mean much
But it comes so smoothly
It seems to laugh at the heat of the day
And love itself for being here.
The poem of the evening
After the long day
Is a happy poem
And it looks forward to praying the evening prayer forever.

A Poem Can Bring Me Back To Hope
A POEM CAN BRING ME BACK TO HOPE
A poem can bring me back to Hope-
Even if it is a poor poem
Even if I have written the poem many times before-
A poem can bring me back to Hope-
And now I am hoping again
Somewhat happily.

The Only Poem Is The Poem/ At The Moment Of Its Writing
THE ONLY POEM IS THE POEM
The only poem is the poem
At the moment of its writing
The poem being lived now
The poem I am trying to make
The poem of these lines.
The only poem now is this one-
And this poem is so small and so self- reflexive
That it is not much of a poem at all.
The only poem is not much of a poem at all
This one
And me now? .
But what about everything else I have not done?

A Sick Man's Poem Is A Sad Poem
A SICK MAN’S POEM IS A SAD POEM
A sick man’s poem is a sad poem
Walking, it is out of breath -
It stops and wonders at all the powers it took for granted
It no longer has now-
It wants to be home in bed lying down-
A sick man’s poem wants to sleep
And not care that it any longer is -
It wants rest quiet silence peace and no pain-
A sick man’s poem is out of breath too soon
And wants to lie down.

This Morning Has No Poem
THIS MORNING HAS NO POEM
This morning has no poem-
Reality-
Too many problems-
Too much to do-
Too much not to do-
Too much-
Yet somehow at some time during the day,
There will be a moment for thought,
There will be a time of peace in which to dream,
There will be a bit of silence and peace,
A poem.

How Can One Have A Poem/ When Fear Inside Is The Soul
How can one have a Poem
When Fear inside is the Soul
And all I know now is
Uncertainties
About those I love?
How can one have a poem
When all the real questions of my life
Will not be solved or helped by what I write now?
How can I have a Poem now
Except as a small tranquillizer
To keep myself somehow less in fright
As I go to do
The small errands of life
Which done
Will not save anyone
But may make better feeling possible
Later?
