Arrogance

Sometimes it pours like hot
drips of melted wax from a candlestick;
your migraine.

I wanted armistice.
Untangle the lies,
I am not in your firing line.

The tulips in the barrel of your gun
cannot forgive the bullets.
There will be no ceremony after the funeral.

Give a slice of blue departure
of moon to light the beach,
there was a brutal murder on the lake

among the muffled waves of protest
in the home of insanes, who were
praying for the sun to return.

Premeditation

Oh blade you'll warm tonight!
Awash in crimson-purple flows,
Your sheen will dull with aching flesh:
Palpating anatomic mounds
Caressing, dancing, writhing round
Your metal form-
Whetted ‘gainst a lonely bone,
Then to probe the pounding, begging heart.

And all the while the prey will howl
Before they crumple; greet the mud-
A taut and unbelieving jowl
Will open out for giving blood-
A vent from down below,
Once a brutal show
Of metal in the man.

Blue Home

Sea, if only you knew how I miss you
you'd come and take me
gently while I'm asleep,
you know I regret it, every time I leave you
blue blue home, take me home
let me fall asleep on your waves
wash my body and my face
breathless I am, my blue home
take me Sea, take me home
this dirt, this sin, this love is making me a sinner
take me home, my blue love,
I am only good when I'm home
on the waves, there's my bed
my light are the stars
you sing me, o lovely whale
I hear your voice...
beg the sea, my whale, to take me home
to my blue blue home!

BEACH

On the beach, egrets sleep, peacefully curled together.
Waves roaring and waves wildness wipe on the beach.
The moon is reflected on the water.
This scene could bring a person close with GOD,

Sorry I missed your funeral.

Will you ever forgive, me for missing your funeral?
You might have seen the pain I felt when I heard you passed
Every time I see your picture
My heart just pours out
My eyes get filled with tears
Cud be because I never said goodbye

Daps I really loved you
Deep down in my heart you still live
Your memory lives in me
You I will never forget

Bhelekazi be free, and maybe then I too will be
All I need to know is ….
Are you mad at me?
Have you forgiven me?
For missing your funeral

I was never told of your ill health
Only of your death I was told
How I wish you were still alive
So many things we cud have shared
How can you die so early?
When I was just to matriculate

You were a strong and a loving person
Humble and trusting
Will you ever forgive me for missing your funeral?

Of little words you were
Of much love you gave
You’d take me and Zameka
And brag about your two daughters
Though I was just your niece

I love you Bhelekazi
I miss you so-langa
Will you ever forgive me?
For missing your funeral

Table Bay [2]

I can hear the waves roar,
slamming shingle on the rocks, the beach
drawing in and out
on Bloubergstrand
and the cadence is a age old shuddering
of waves breaking, continuing like before

and in the distance Table Bay
lies stretched out specked with
hundreds of little lights
like a enormous crown

with the flat mountain top
on display, etched against the night sky
and its full tide, the moon is full
yellow and magnificent

and the place of good hope,
lies on the shore
with waves breaking forever more
and lonely the beach stretches out before me,
in a long white ribbon
and the dark water goes out to the horizon,
almost as far as I can see

and the sea wind is fresh and new
and there's no light in sight
on the wavering ocean
just a darkness that envelopes me
as the waves
are throwing pebbles out
and drawing them in
before breaking on the beach

and there's nobody to be true to,
nobody to trust, only the reality of the here and now
and all hope, all promises, all joy and pain
remains the same
swept in and out of a confused world
forever breaking, forever rushing in.

1. Two Red Candles Burning Through Night

chinese wedding
two red candles burn
though the night

wax sizzles,
drips, drips
with our red hot
passion for each other

drips, drips
fluidly down the bar
the whole night

drips, drips, with
each pause of
our desire
each hug of our
affirmation for
each other

drips, drips
with our thirst
for each other

drips, drips
and clings to
the bar, warm
as our bosoms

drips, drips
solidifying
the night into our
assurance
for each other

drips drips till
the morning
turning the night
into an ecstatic
tour de force,
a union crystallising in
a mass of bliss
resting quiet on
the base of two
exhaust candles

Under A Blanket Of Stars...

As we walked along the beach, crashing waves
thundered in our ears and a light, salted mist,
dampened our lips.

The sun began to set and the voice of the beach,
traveled across the ocean waves.

'I am the beach, and here you shall find peace.
I am the beach, here you shall find love.

In this domain, my beach, the answers you
search for, could very well be found here.
For at this beach, there is much,
that has been revealed.

The sparkled, white grains of sand, that blanket
this beach, has been a bed of comfort, to many.

Pause, as you come upon this beach, and listen
to the symphony of waves and the chorus of
birds, singing their song, as they glide in the wind.

Feel the power of this beach, as it seems to
renew your inner being. You need not question
the beach and its mystical powers. For as
millions before you have found, the beach...
and its magical transference to one...have
existed, since the beginning of time.

Be not troubled, for the beach is close at
hand. You need only to deliver your strife,
to the tranquility of the beach and it shall
be exercised from you.

When you go from this beach...leave with
the peace that you have found here.'

The Light Pours Out Of Me

Time flies
Time crawls
Link an insect up and down the walls
The light pours out of me [x2]
The conspiracy of silence
Ought to revolutionize my thought
The light pours out of me [x2]
The cold light of day pours of of me
Leaving me black and so healthy
The light pours out of me [x2]
It jerks out of me
Just like blood
In this still life
Heart beats up love
The light pours out of me
Pours out of me....

The Firing-Line

They are creeping on through the cornfields yet, and they clamber amongst the rocks,
Ere they rush to stab with the bayonet and smash with the rifle-stocks.
And many are wounded, many are dead—some reel as if drunk with wine,
And fling them down on a blood-stained bed, and sleep in the firing-line.
And they dream, perhaps, of the days shut back, while the shrapnel shrieks and crashes,
And field-guns hammer and rifles crack, and the blood of a comrade splashes.
In horrible shambles they rest a while from murder by right divine;
They curse or jest, and they frown or smile—and they dream in the firing-line.

In the dreadful din of a ghastly fight they are shooting, murdering, men;
In the smothering silence of ghastly peace we murder with tongue and pen.
Where is heard the tap of the typewriter—where the track of reform they mine—
Where they stand to the frame or the linotype—we are all in the firingline.

Weary and parched in the world-old war we are fighting with quivering nerves;
The dead are our fathers who charged before, and the children are our reserves.
In the world-old war, with the world-old wrongs that shall last while the stars still shine,
My comrades and I, who would sing their songs, are all in the firing-line.

There are some of us cowards who hug the ground, and some of us reckless who jest;
And some of us careless who slumber sound, and some of us weary who rest.
There are some of us dreamers, whose beds seem soft, and O heart! O friend of mine!
The brightest and bravest of earth too oft lie drunk in the firing-line.

But the sleeper may wake ere the fort we storm, and the coward be first to dare,
And the weak grow strong, and the drunkard reform, and the dreamer strike hardest there.
God give me strength in my country’s need, though shame and disgrace be mine,
And death be certain, to rise and lead when we charge from the firing-line.

Good Man

If you ever find a way to forgive me
And if you ever find a way to put this all to rest
Because Im hanging on your dress now like a little boy
And all that you wanted
And all that you wanted
Was a good man
Alright
Right in the middle of another big fight
Pull back another one tonight
Ill never forget, but who protects the memories
When we bleed each other from the vein
And if you ever find a way to make this interesting
If I ever find a way to stop disintegrating
Into pieces that I was that you destroy
And all that you wanted
And all that you wanted
Was a good man
Alright
Right in the middle of another big fight
Go to bed, its getting light out
Why do you, why do you, why do you always stop me on places when Im coming down
How do you do it when Ive overwhelmed by a violet sky?
We fly in a decaying orbit, 66,000 miles an hour goes by
When we kissed and only now do I feel your mouth
Like an ache you never knew
And it was right in front of you
Oh how do you do it? roots in the soil untangle
Releasing your sweet summer warmth, but still I recoil like mace
And all the little moments I pushed you away that I cant erase
Every moment overflows with power, 66,000 miles an hour
And if you ever find a way to forgive me
And if you ever find a way to put this all to rest
Cos Im hanging on your dress now like a little boy
And all that you wanted
And all that you wanted
Was a good man
Alright
And all that you wanted
And all that you wanted
Was a good man
Was a good man, good man
Was a good man, good man
Was a good man, (was a good man) good man

We whisper goodnight…

As the clock of love ticks
Mine heart slowly grows
Our love melted in we sticks
As in thine heart mine love flows
Gently like the somber waves
Of the sorrowful sea blue
The sound we follow paves
Art love to beauty true
Melted together like the heat of the sun
We shine on the waves gleam
Flowing together with the voice of one
In earth's shadows we beam
Our light of sweet heaven delight
In the light of stars in tender night
We whisper goodnight…

Moon, We Look to You.

Moon, you have a shade of blue tonight –
Is it something that you saw or heard?
Only yesterday, your tone was proud and bright,
Yellow silver, full, and so assured.

Moon, despite the clarity of sky,
Metaphors of cloud that fluff with grey
Drift across your rounded face to spy;
Feeding back, there's awfully much to say.

Moon, you have a role to play up there –
We below must bear the earthly pain.
Duty bound, we shoulder sorrows fair –
You are free from our grotesque disdain.

Moon, we depend on you to shine
When the sun retires down below.
Add to that your grandest role divine:
Tidal Lord, to keep the seas in tow!

Moon, I hope you take to heart our plea –
Needless is the reason for your blue.
Beaming, you should give the night its glee:
We're despairing – so we look to you.

At dusk as I urged the fish too bite

I remember the lake light shining
Like a disk as I fished for perch or pike
At dusk as I urged the fish too bite!
Bite a spoon of shimmering bait…

I remember bats flitting and circling
Like the insects they longed to catch…
And the ripples left by fish, that had.
I remember the blunt roll-call home…

The boathouse like a sarcophagus…
With its two well rotten doors
Gaping open; like malnourished jaws.
Awaiting, deaths ferrymen back.
Back to them; keep net shores.

I remember the rolling. Fog, rising
About the gnarled chestnut trees
Billowing-out; into brackish reeds…
And then a slice of moon leaping,
Frantic; pulling line from my spool.

I remember the lake light shining
In the scales of a real; living ghoul
Plucked out of the waters fighting…
Was a fish that wasn't preschool.

The Waves

(jack hues / darren costin / nick feldman)
Working at your job all day
Sends the time spinning away
Watch tv from half past six
Cook, make love and pick up sticks
But you can hear the waves crash on the beach
At night
Books you read can sublimate
Music seems to dissipate
And maybe just a bottle of wine
And a couple of smokes and youll be fine
But you still hear the waves crash on the beach
At night
You can feel the waves crash on the beach
At night
Your lover lies beside you fast asleep
The moonlight falls upon the tears you weep
And you can hear the waves crash on the beach
At night oh at night
So all you really need is love
Love to give, receive above
And then the waves will soothe your heart
Your one true love will never part
True love (is the answer to everything
True love is the answer true love is the thing)
True love (is the answer to everything
True love is the answer true love is the thing)
And we will lie together both asleep
The moonlight will provide the tears we weep
And as we breathe the waves crash on the beach
At night
And as we breathe the waves crash on the beach
At night

After Willie Had Gone

Dotty lies in Willie's bed,
he's gone to fetch Sammy
his poet friend and will return
in a few days. She sniffs
her brother's pillow, smells
his hair oil and aftershave.

She snuggles into the bed
for warmth, pulling his duvet
tight around her, imagining
it's him holding her, his arms
about her. She has a headache,
a coming near the edge, migraine.

Feels sick, light leaking through
the curtains makes it worse.

She puts her head under the
duvet, shuts out the bright light.

She smells him better here, his
love of scent, his personal choice.

She hears birdsong from the garden,
a blue tit, great tit, unsure which.

Willie'd know. She squeezes her
eyes tight keep out whatever light
might intrude. Willie's left her some
of his poems to type up and file away.

Later in the day, she muses, once
the sickness and migraine's gone.

He had a good day yesterday with
the poems, she recalls, him reciting
over and over as they walked, her
scribbling down, pencil and pad,
her finger and thumb holding the
pencil tight until they felt numb.

After they returned home and sat
by the fire and he spoke them out
one by one. She loved the one about
winter dawn. She turns over, faces
the wall, her head buried into Willie's
warm indentation. In the darkness
she recites the poems one by one,
the words pouring from her lips,
following each other like children
out to play. She shuts out the dawn
chorus of birds that celebrate the day.
