Ch 06 On Weakness And Old Age Story 07

The son of a wealthy but avaricious old man, having fallen sick, his well-wishers advised him that it would be proper to get the whole Quran recited or else to offer a sacrifice. He meditated a while and then said: ‘It is preferable to read the Quran because the flock is at a distance.’ A holy man, who had heard this, afterwards remarked: ‘He selected the reading of the Quran because it is at the tip of the tongue but the money at the bottom of the heart.’

It is useful to bend the neck in prayers
If they are to be accompanied by almsgiving.
For one dinar he would remain sticking in mud like an ass,
But if thou askest for Alhamdu he will recite it a hundred times.

Ch 04 On The Advantages Of Silence Story 14

A fellow with a disagreeable voice happened to be reading the Quran, when a pious man passed near, and asked him what his monthly salary was. He replied: ‘Nothing.’ He further inquired: ‘Then why takest thou this trouble?’ He replied: ‘I am reading for God’s sake.’ He replied: ‘For God’s sake do not read.’

If thou readest the Quran thus
Thou wilt deprive the religion of splendour.

The Birth of Holy Quran

The angels gathered and Allah proclaimed
The Quran will guide you as explained

Ask HIM for forgiveness…for tonight is the night
The night of Meeraj, when the Holy Book came to light

It's the birth of Holy Quran that teaches to cultivate love
And not massacre or repugnance towards people on this earth

It's the night when Prophet Muhammad travelled the seven skies
To bring joyous tidings and Quran for us to recite

Islam is a religion of peace, yet some have gone astray
No religion teaches to kill as some may portray

It's a book of blessings sent from heaven above
So follow the righteous path and let Allah be the judge.

Ch 04 On The Advantages Of Silence Story 04

A scholar of note had a controversy with an unbeliever but, being
unable to cope with him in argument, shook his head and retired.
Someone asked him how it came to pass that, with all his eloquence and
learning, he had been unable vanquish an irreligious man. He
replied: ‘My learning is in the Quran, in tradition and in the sayings
of sheikhs, which he neither believes in nor listens to. Then of
what use is it to me to hear him blaspheming?’
To him of whom thou canst not rid thyself by the Quran and tradition
The best reply is if thou dost not reply anything.

The Best Of Both Worlds

everyone keep asking me who am I?
I'm just an ordinary girl
I belive in all prophets
I belive in humanity
I read the Holy Quran
I read poetry and literature
I'm against racism
I support charity
I'm jut an ordinary girl
I wear a veil
I respect human rights
I'm not an angel
I'm not a rationalist
maybe I'm not perfect because no one is,

Ch 02 The Morals Of Dervishes Story 22

It is related that a hermit consumed during one night ten mann of food and perused the whole Quran till morning. A pious fellow who had heard of this said: ‘It would have been more excellent if he had eaten half a loaf and slept till the morning.’

Keep thy interior empty of food
That thou mayest behold therein the light of marifet.
Thou art empty of wisdom for the reason
That thou art replete with food up to the nose.

Ch 02 The Morals Of Dervishes Story 44

I asked a good man concerning the qualities of the brethren of purity. He replied: ‘The least of them is that they prefer to please their friends rather than themselves; and philosophers have said that a brother who is fettered by affairs relating to himself is neither a brother nor a relative.’

If thy fellow traveller hastens, he is not thy fellow.
Tie not thy heart to one whose heart is not tied to thine.
When a kinsman possesses no virtue and piety
Then severing connection is better than love of kinship.

I remember that an opponent objected to the last two lines, saying: ‘God the most high and glorious has in his noble book prohibited the severing of connection with relatives and has commanded us to love them. What thou hast alleged is contrary to it.’ I replied: ‘Thou art mistaken because according to the Quran, Allah the most high has said: If they both father and mother, strive to induce thee to associate with me that concerning which thou hast no knowledge, obey them not.

A thousand kinsmen who are strangers to God
Are the sacrifice for one stranger who knows him.

Lailathul Qadr

Lailathul Qadr
The undisclosed holy night
In ramzan, Muslim’s holy month
Better than a thousand nights
A night of peace and piety
Of Quran revealed to Prophet
Dispelling darkness of ignorance
The night of supreme peace
The Night of Power
Converts the night of darkness
Into a night of spiritual glory
Dissipates the spiritual darkness
By the glory of God
A new spiritual world dawns
Bless the nook and corner of human heart
Blessed are those who toiled for god
In god’s ways, not their own
The mortal night opens a door
To immortal glory of men!

Ch 02 The Morals Of Dervishes Story 07

I remember, being in my childhood pious, rising in the night, addicted to devotion and abstinence. One night I was sitting with my father, remaining awake and holding the beloved Quran in my lap, whilst the people around us were asleep. I said: ‘Not one of these persons lifts up his head or makes a genuflection. They are as fast asleep as if they were dead.’ He replied: ‘Darling of thy father, would that thou wert also asleep rather than disparaging people.’

The pretender sees no one but himself
Because he has the veil of conceit in front.
If he were endowed with a God-discerning eye
He would see that no one is weaker than himself.

My Prayer

We all believe in faith
there is a heaven for everyone
there are all different kinds
some pray to the sun, others to thy god
from the Bible to the Watchtower to Quran
words are different, so are we
from Churches to the sands, from our beds
we all pray for the same
Peace, Harmony, Happiness, and good health
pray for each other
We are all brothers and Sisters of the world
peace to all from a far
different we are, and will be
but I believe we are one
keep the faith, pray

God... Where Are YOU?

Searched for HIM near and far
in temples, mosques, churches and vihars

Browsed Gita, Bible and Quran
peeped into the pages of Vedas and Purans.

Questioned the learned ones, scholars and sages
journeyed in this quest sacred places.

Meditated seeking HIM in lap of the Himalayas
Praying for HIS presence through chanting of mantras.

Sages and savants, answers, could'nt satisfy me
my hunger for HIM, felt, beginning to betray me.

Finding of God particle raised my hope
soon to vanish by another stroke.

Instrumental in forming the Universe, it was revealed
but who made this particle, mystery yet to be unveiled?

Arn't we the God particles in the true sense?
What use this universe without inhabitants?

Eureka! I have found HIM within myself
HE is in everyone, bother to seek within self.

He is in us, in every human being
in good deeds, love, service & pious thinking.

So why search HIM here and there
Universal love marks HIS presence everywhere.

Indelible Memories

Winner of the Writers Unlimited 1995 Honorary Prize
Mississippi, USA

a few miles north from shugonda river
there is a small village named chachair

where lived a good teacher and thinker
who was different from all others

his name was Sayed Abdur Rahman Kala
a truly honest person I have met so far

those who could read
regarded him as a good teacher

poor can't forget
the philanthropic doctor

his education life was short
as he had to work

immediately after his BA exam
he joined there in an office of central excise

Bangladesh was then a part of Pakistan
most employees there were corrupt

he was determined to keep off all bribes
and in a short time he was bored

returned to his village home
with bag and baggage

he joined a school there as a teacher
and started practice as homeopathic doctor

while students were happy to have a good teacher
the villagers were lucky to have a good doctor

out of the school
he taught many poor pupils

as a doctor attended to the sick
but money never was his motive

he never asked his patients
even for the cost of medicine

at leisure he copied verses
from the holy Quran

explained their meaning
to men and women

some thoughtful books he penned
benefits went to his well-wisher

one record of his life was
he never told a lie to anyone

nor he used costly clothes:
all the time he led a simple life

once a letter came from him
“you’re working in a biggest company

do not make any illegal wealth or money
always do your duties towards your family”

suddenly the sky became cloudy
my entire bosom sustained injuries

in 88's September landed another letter
informing of my great unbearable loss:

my best friend, well-wisher
my best teacher is no more

no, he will remain alive always in me
till the end of time
