The two of us
We were ragged
We played in the street
We never had enough to eat.
We had conkers for toys
and strings in our knickers.
We went barefoot,
we never had slippers.
You had a rabbit
and I had a cat,
you had long socks,
some didn't have that.
We had green fields
in the summertime.
We had fresh air
as good as wine.
We had each other,
you and I.
But above all else
no matter what,
we had love
and that's a lot.

Summertime
(Dean Sams/Rivers Rutherford/Tom Shapiro)
I like your look in that sweater
All warm and bundled up tight
But I keep picturing something a little different tonight
I see you in a bikini
One lazy toe in the pool
Layed back and sippin' on something long, tall and cool.
Yeah, I can't wait for a warm breeze blowin'
Green grass growin' and the bright sunshine
Short sundress with your long legs showin'
I can't wait for the summertime
Oh, the summertime.
I'm gonna find us some tickets
To a tropical isle
You just see if your mama can keep the kids for awhile
We'll take our drinks with umbrellas
We'll take a room with a view
I'm gonna take my sweet time makin' love to you
That's what I'm gonna do.
I can't wait for a warm breeze blowin'
Green grass growin' and the bright sunshine
Short sundress with your long legs showin'
I can't wait for the summertime
Feel your body next to mine
In the summertime.
Yeah, I can't wait for a warm breeze blowin'
Green grass growin' and the bright sunshine
Short sundress with your long legs showin'
I can't wait for the summertime
Oh I can't wait for a warm breeze blowin'
Green grass growin' and the bright sunshine
Short sundress with your long legs showin'
I can't wait for the summertime
Feel your body next to mine
In the summertime.
Summertime.
Summertime.

Sunny Afternoon (feat. Space)
Words and music by Raymond Davies
In the summertime
The taxmans taken all my dough
And left me in my stately home
Lazing on a sunny afternoon
And I cant sail my yacht
Hes taken everything Ive got
All Ive gots this sunny afternoon
Save me, from this squeeze
Ive got a big fat momma tryin to break me
And I love to live so pleasantly
Live this life of luxury
Lazing on a sunny afternoon
In the summertime
In the summertime
In the summertime (everything seems fine)
My girlfriends gone off with my car
And gone back to her ma and pa
Telling tales of drunkenness and cruelty
And now Im sitting here
Sipping on my ice cold beer
Lazing on a sunny afternoon
Help me, sail away
Give me two good reasons why I ought to stay
Cos I love to live so pleasantly
Live this life of luxury
Lazing on a sunny afternoon
In the summertime
Everything is fine because its the summertime
In the summertime
(I dont care about a doggone thing)
in the summertime
(Im broke, Ive skint, but its the summertime)
In the summertime
(even though I aint got a dime, in the summertime, I dont have a dime)
In the summertime
(I just got this ice cold beer, everything seems fine)
In the summertime
(Nothing seems to matter)

She Walked Barefoot...
she walked barefoot,
across them factory floors,
down that gravel road,
across the yard,
and into that old house.
she walked barefoot,
across them kitchen floors,
down that long hallway,
across the floor to the bed.
she walked barefoot,
between them garden rows,
out in the fields,
down through the pines
to the creek.
she walked barefoot,
down them hospital halls,
down the aisles of the church,
out in the cementary
to the grave...
she walked barefoot,
into the arms of eternity,
and i'd give all i am
to wash her feet
with my tears!

Wine (Love Poem)
Wine is for laughing
Wine is for talking all night
Wine is for living life out loud
Wine is for making us beautiful
Wine is for all-night conversations
Wine is for getting together again
Wine is for ‘never again’ tomorrow
Wine is for sleeping like a baby
Wine is for telling the truth
Wine is food for love
Wine is friendship
Wine is fresh

Ode to My Socks
Mara Mori brought me
a pair of socks
which she knitted herself
with her sheepherder's hands,
two socks as soft as rabbits.
I slipped my feet into them
as if they were two cases
knitted with threads of twilight and goatskin,
Violent socks,
my feet were two fish made of wool,
two long sharks
sea blue, shot through
by one golden thread,
two immense blackbirds,
two cannons,
my feet were honored in this way
by these heavenly socks.
They were so handsome for the first time
my feet seemed to me unacceptable
like two decrepit firemen,
firemen unworthy of that woven fire,
of those glowing socks.
Nevertheless, I resisted the sharp temptation
to save them somewhere as schoolboys
keep fireflies,
as learned men collect
sacred texts,
I resisted the mad impulse to put them
in a golden cage and each day give them
birdseed and pieces of pink melon.
Like explorers in the jungle
who hand over the very rare green deer
to the spit and eat it with remorse,
I stretched out my feet and pulled on
the magnificent socks and then my shoes.
The moral of my ode is this:
beauty is twice beauty
and what is good is doubly good
when it is a matter of two socks
made of wool in winter.

Tap Water, Jean-Paul Sartre and the Rabbit
French actresses in films always drink glasses of tap water
in the middle of the night; their long hair hangs over sinks in despair.
They run about Paris (clipclopclipclap) and talk very fast about
their lovers, sitting in cars that look like squashed slippers.
Their cheated husbands smoke smelly cigarettes, drink horried green drinks and bang on endlessly about Jean-Paul Sartre.
I am very ashamed that I don`t have so many problems -
not even being worried about atheistic existentialism.
I (myself) am worried though about my pet rabbit (called Rabbit
by his friends, if he had any) who seems at the moment not
to enjoy his lettuce. As you probably understand, there is a
difference between a rabbit and a famous French philosopher and novelist.
Might be the tap water.

All I Need Was You
Outside the church bells toll
For this wasteland we call home
There's nowhere left to hide or run to
Daddy drank real hard late at night
He'd say without love life's a long fight
l promised I'd win one fight for him babe
The storm outside is raging
I close my eyes l think about you babe
There's got to be something left worth saving
We've wasted too much time
I played the fool I played the soldier
But my struggling days are over
I wanted everything
When all l needed was you babe
l didn't understand I was just a young boy
All I wanted was the rich man's play toys
I didn't really care how I got there baby
Now I've seen a thousand dreams die
In the oil fields in the coal mines
No need to wonder why
nobody's satisfied lately
The storm outside is raging
I close my eyes l think about you babe
There's got to be something left worth saving
We've wasted too much time
I played the fool I played the soldier
But my struggling days are over
I wanted everything
When all l needed was you babe

Summertime
Summertime - let the love birds fly tonight
Summertime - can you feel it deep inside
Summertime - come along and sing this song
Let's celebrate a party all night long
No clouds in the deep blue sky
We're so happy so don't be shy
Summertime, I feel so strong
Let's party all night long
Let the sunshine in your heart
Take my hand let the romance start
Everybody's feeling fine
It's summertime
See the stars they are shining bright
Everything is gonna be alright
Summertime goes on and on
Let's party all night long
Honest passion this is true
I feel the fire just for you
Everybody's feeling fine
It's summertime
Now I close my eyes, I'm hypnotized
Living in a dream like paradies
Like Lightning, from the deep blue sky
You entered my life and captured my mind
Like a thief you've stolen my heart
Made me a part of your life and made me start
And when the night goes on, I wanna be with you
That's true - no matter what you gonna do
Flirtin all day, laying on the beach
Summertime is cool can you feel the heat
Of love, you are my fantasy
High up in the sky like birds I'm free
Catch me I'm falling in slowmotion
Let me show my deepest devotion
Just one word, one smile that's true
And all I wanna be is close to you

Market Square
I had a penny,
A bright new penny,
I took my penny
To the market square.
I wanted a rabbit,
A little brown rabbit,
And I looked for a rabbit
'Most everywhere.
For I went to the stall where they sold sweet lavender
("Only a penny for a bunch of lavender!").
"Have you got a rabbit, 'cos I don't want lavender?"
But they hadn't got a rabbit, not anywhere there.
I had a penny,
And I had another penny,
I took my pennies
To the market square.
I did want a rabbit,
A little baby rabbit,
And I looked for rabbits
'Most everywhere.
And I went to the stall where they sold fresh mackerel
("Now then! Tuppence for a fresh-caught mackerel!").
"Have you got a rabbit, 'cos I don't like mackerel?"
But they hadn't got a rabbit, not anywhere there.
I found a sixpence,
A little white sixpence.
I took it in my hand
To the market square.
I was buying my rabbit
I do like rabbits),
And I looked for my rabbit
'Most everywhere.
So I went to the stall where they sold fine saucepans
("Walk up, walk up, sixpence for a saucepan!").
"Could I have a rabbit, 'cos we've got two saucepans?"
But they hadn't got a rabbit, not anywhere there.
I had nuffin',
No, I hadn't got nuffin',
So I didn't go down
To the market square;
But I walked on the common,
The old-gold common...
And I saw little rabbits
'Most everywhere!
So I'm sorry for the people who sell fine saucepans,
I'm sorry for the people who sell fresh mackerel,
I'm sorry for the people who sell sweet lavender,
'Cos they haven't got a rabbit, not anywhere there!

My Dog Named Cat
Spring of life, so much like the flowers in the garden, or the leaves on The mighty oak tres, all blooming, all turning green, as days go by,
My dog and I, we used to run free together, through the fields of corn, Down the country lanes, so happy we were, me and my dog named Cat;
When rabbits crossed our path, we chased them until our lungs were about to Burst, then we'd lie there upon the ground breathing in the fresh country Air, and nowhere on earth, was there a happier place;
Summer, the body of life, when all is happening so fast it makes your head Spin, hot days, warm nights, when the sun and stars seem so very close, When maturity sets in on a child's dream on a puppy's playful days;
With work to be done now, we're still together, me and my dog Cat, side by Side we walk through the fields, our eyes still glance for a trace of that Same rabbit;
When day is done, even though we're tired, we hurry back to take up the Chase, and maybe someday soon, we'll catch old rabbit, but I know, in both Of our hearts we hope we never will;
Fall, the Autumn of life, when things slow down, when hair turns gray, and Eye sight fades, when the memories are thought of, more often;
Me and my dog Cat, still walk the fields together, our old friend the Rabbit, is still with us, Cat's bark is growing weaker, and his legs just Aren't the same;
I limp along with them, and seem to keep up somehow, but I'm sure old Cat Sometimes slows down, just for me to catch up, we watch more sunsets now From the porch, than we ever did before;
Winter, the cold and lonely time of life, when sometimes things end, oh, The snow is beautiful to see, as it falls to earth, but the old days are Gone now, gone;
Old Cat doesn't walk with me anymore, when he died my tears fell on his Grave, even old rabbit was there to say goodbye;
I'm sure old rabbit won't be with me in Spring, I suppose I'll sit by the Fire and dream of those good times, memories of me, and my dog named Cat.

Its Ok
Fun is in
Its no sin
Its that time again
To shed your load
Hit the road
On the run again
Summer skies
In our eyes
And a warmer sun
Its one for all
All for one
All for all out fun
Gotta go to it
Gonna go through it
Gotta get with it
Lookin good
Down the hood
Of a funky ride
On the way
To the tide
Just to tan your hide
In the shade
Lemonade
In the sun ocean spray
To get your face
In the race
Or lay backs no disgrace
Gotta go to it
Gonna go through it
Gotta get with it
Its ok to get out there and
Have some fun
By yourself maybe
Or else with a special one.
Good or bad
Glad or sad
Its all gonna pass
So its ok
Lets all play
And enjoy it while it lasts
Gotta go to it
Gonna go through it
Gotta get with it

Green Fields And Running Brooks
Ho! green fields and running brooks!
Knotted strings and fishing-hooks
Of the truant, stealing down
Weedy backways of the town.
Where the sunshine overlooks,
By green fields and running brooks,
All intruding guests of chance
With a golden tolerance,
Cooing doves, or pensive pair
Of picnickers, straying there--
By green fields and running brooks,
Sylvan shades and mossy nooks!
And--O Dreamer of the Days,
Murmurer of roundelays
All unsung of words or books,
Sing green fields and running brooks!

In The Summertime
I was in your presence for an hour or so
Or was it a day? I truly dont know.
Where the sun never set, where the trees hung low
By that soft and shining sea.
Did you respect me for what I did
Or for what I didnt do, or for keeping it hid?
Did I lose my mind when I tried to get rid
Of everything you see?
In the summertime, ah in the summertime,
In the summertime when you were with me.
I got the heart and you got the blood,
We cut through iron and we cut through mud.
Then came the warnin that was before the flood
That set everybody free.
Fools they made a mock of sin,
Our loyalty they tried to win
But you were closer to me than my next of kin
When they didnt want to know or see.
In the summertime, ah in the summertime,
In the summertime when you were with me.
Strangers, they meddled in our affairs,
Poverty and shame was theirs.
But all that sufferin was not to be compared
With the glory that is to be.
And Im still carrying the gift you gave,
Its a part of me now, its been cherished and saved,
Itll be with me unto the grave
And then unto eternity.
In the summertime, ah in the summertime,
In the summertime when you were with me.

Across the Green Fields
Across the green fields
Up on the bluffs
High into the sky
A place I didn’t realize existed
Montana
Yes green
Once in a drought
It now is green from pounding rain.
God’s country again
It looks like a different place
No brown desert prairies
No desolate fields
It’s green now
A beautiful velvety green.

Music Arcade
Have you ever been lost
Have you ever been found out
Have you ever felt all alone
At the end of the day
Yeah Im talkin bout gettin down
Take it easy - theres no one around
Just a mirror and you and me
And the tv sky
I was walkin down main street
Not the sidewalk but main street
Dodgin traffic with flyin feet
Thats how good I felt
Took a spin in the laundromat
Played a game in the music arcade
Kept winnin while the band played
Thats how good I felt
(chorus)
Have you ever been singled out
By a hungry man
Youre listening to the radio
Hes washin your window
When you look in those vacant eyes
How does it harmonize
With the things that you do?
Thats how good I felt
(chorus)
Theres a comet in the sky tonight
Makes me feel like Im alright
Im movin prety fast
For my size
I really didn mean to stay
As long as I have
So Ill be movin on

Paradise Found
Captured in the suns warm glow
Bound and tethered 'neath it's beams
Gladdened by the sapphire sky
Realizing my summertime dream
It all came about so quickly
In a meadow all green from chlorophyll
Blooming Daisy's everywhere
The summer air fresh and e'er still
Bathed i am in total wonder
Caressed and embraced my mind
Heart and Soul enraptured
This place not hard to find
Exclusive summertime Light and Love
Are earned by our deeds so done
Relinquished totally our Souls and Hearts
United in the sunshine as one
Supreme Joy and Happiness
Bliss filled with nary a pain
Kissed with the gleaming morning dew
Summertime-meadow-heavenly sweet refrain

Strawberry Wine
He was working through college on my grandpa's farm.
I was thirsting for knowledge and he had a car.
I was caught somewhere between a woman and a child.
One restless summer we found love growing wild.
On the banks of the river on a well beaten path.
It's funny how those memories they last.
Like strawberry wine and seventeen.
The hot July moon saw everything.
My first taste of love oh bittersweet.
Green on the vine.
Like strawberry wine.
I still remember when thirty was old.
And my biggest fear was September when he had to go.
A few cards and letters and one long distance call.
We drifted away like the leaves in the fall.
But year after year I come back to this place.
Just to remember the taste.
Of strawberry wine and seventeen.
The hot July moon saw everything.
My first taste of love oh bittersweet.
Green on the vine.
Like strawberry wine.
The fields have grown over now.
Years since they've seen the plow.
There's nothing time hasn't touched.
Is it really him or the loss of my innocence.
I've been missing so much.
Like strawberry wine and seventeen.
The hot July moon saw everything.
My first taste of love oh bittersweet.
Green on the vine.
Like strawberry wine.

Pretender revive
In no no mode time
No think no heart
No melody shine
Baby baby barefoot I am

Barefoot I am
Be whatever wherever whenever
Rhythm blast forever cast
Drowned in devotion
Be whoever whyever reason of never
To love me to go with me
My time is loloways now
Swallowed by an ocean

Flower bloomed sublime
Will give it up all
If you touch my feet

Monroe Louisiana
On the green, green farm
In green, green Monroe Louisiana
So green, green
Wet-luscious green and alive
So green after the rain
So bright green and clean
Just passing through
On my way to tomorrow
But so green today and yesterday
It was on that stranger's green, green farm
And I didn't stay long
And I didn't expect someone
To fire that shotgun right next to me
The barrel pointed out the front door
Into that green, green world beyond.
There were hot springs
On the green, green farm
In green, green Monroe Louisiana
Back in 1973.

Once Upon A Time In America
It was a cold January morning,
all around looked a bit boring.
In Washington’s subway
was the beginning of the ordinary day.
Everyone was in a hurry,
they didn’t want to worry
and didn’t pay attention
to the man I would like here to mention.
The passer-bys didn’t clap
to the man wearing jeans and baseball cap.
They all looked at the clock,
so that to get in time for their work.
It was not a tradition
to listen to a street musician.
That man played his violin.
He didn’t try to win.
He was in his own skin.
Would you like to know?
It was certainly not a show.
But…he played
the most beautiful works of art,
the best musical compositions.
Those sounds could touch anyone’s heart
if they were played in another condition.
Now, I would like to tell.
That man was Joshua Bell,
the famous American violinist.
He didn’t persist on subway’s stage,
He was not in a rage for earning 32 dollars,
playing only 45 minutes.
For a street player it’s a good salary,
considering the USA country.
But…you know what?
There is something I forgot.
Two days before
His salary was insanely more.
For the concert in Boston it was a million
because he was really brilliant.
But…in Washington’s subway
Everyone went away
without hearing his play.
Here is my comment.
It was an experiment
suggested by Washington Post.
I don’t know it’s cost
but I know quite well
we do not hear even the church bell.
We are blind and deaf
And it’s the biggest grief.
One man from that subway’s crowd had said:
He played too loud.
