The Rat

Damn that rat!
I could hear it
scuffling about
in the closet.

He'd been there
some time
and I'd heard
footsteps.

Then there were
the phone calls,
from a female
called, Ratessa

Ratessa - called
every day, wanting
to speak to my rat.
No excuses.

Mostly I'm bad
at spotting clues
but this was
see through.

What to do?
I called environmental health.
The rat catcher
came quickly.

He was a big, burly bloke
with dark eyebrows,
tattoos and a
six pack.

‘It's alright love',
he shouted.
‘I'll get your rat,
you leave this to me.'

I led him in,
straight through to the back.
He stood, aghast,
when he saw my rat

‘I know you' he snapped
‘I've seen you
at our back door
with my Mrs.

My two kids,
are the spit of you!
Then he dragged
my rat outside.

I heard a squeak
and then a crack
and then
a blood curdling splat

I peeped outside, no rat,
just a couple of teeth
and blood stains
on the mat.

I poured myself a drink,
discarded wedding rings,
and put on a
cocktail dress, black,

in mourning,
for my late husband - the rat
that had finally -
been caught.

Pain Of Existence Without.....

It was pain of existence without your phone calls.....
This pain was not related to time, as time moved on.....
but the pain remained, pain and more pain....
without a phone call from you........
Time started moving, but there was no phone call, , , , , ,
I was lost with the acute awareness of this great pain.....
pain and more pain......
I wish I could tell you how much your phone calls mean to me, , , , ,
what if we have not met, what if we have not seen each other
but dear your phone call is what makes me pull through my day....
your voice is a magic to me, it is music to my ears....
but dear you never called.... and the pain remains...
The pain reminds me of the wonderful times we had....
the long phone calls.... your voice, your silence, , your moans
all this was so wonderful, which meant so much to me....
but dear you never called........
come back and call me dear...... and tell me how much I mean to you
call me once my love........
I wait for your magic voice, for all wonderful things you tell me....
for all the beautiful moments over phone we had.......
I wait with great pain, pain and pain.....
Just to hear you..... or get a message from you
Your messages are my breakfast, my dinner, , , ,
I sleep thinking of you hearing you, reading you...
I wake up to read your message..........
But dear you never called you never messaged....
come back just once my love come back
I just want to tell how much I miss your voice.............

The Man Who Was Standing Behind

I was in a conference centre full of people,
and a man called out my name.
His voice was louder than the chattering,
and he shouted it out again.

His voice wasn’t at all familiar,
and no one knew I was here.
This was a lonely hearts club meeting
for singles who also enjoyed a beer.

For a third time he called out my name,
and my I.D. tag gave me away.
The woman with whom I was talking
waved her arms and shouted “Hey.”

I left her presence quite quickly
and became lost in the crowd.
I didn’t look to see who was calling,
but he was persistent and shouting loud.

People all around me were fainting,
for no reason they dropped like flies,
but then I heard leather to wood footsteps
above the peoples’ sighs and cries.

I slowly looked all around me
and somehow I knew it was my time,
I was leaving one way or another,
with the man who was standing behind.

Picture (feat. Gretchen Wilson)

Living my life in a slow hell
Different girl every night at the hotel
I aint seen the sun shine in three damn days
Been fueling up on cocaine and whiskey
Wish I had a good girl to miss me
Lord I wonder if i'll ever change my ways
I put your picture away
Sat down and cried today
I can't look at you while
I'm lying next to her (x2)
I called you last night at the hotel
Everyone knows but they wont tell
But their half-hearted smiles tell me something just aint right
I've been waiting on you for a long time
Fueling up on heartaches and cheap wine
I ain't heard from you in three damn nights
I put your picture away
I wonder where you've been
I can't look at you while
I'm lying next to him (x2)
I saw you yesterday with an old friend
It was the same ol' same how have you been
Since you been gone my worlds been dark and gray
You reminded my of brighter days
I hoped you were coming home to stay
I was head of the church
I was off to drink you away
I thought about you for a long time
Can't seem to get you off my mind
I can't understand why we're living life this way
I found your picture today
I swear I'll change my ways
I just called to say I want you to come back home (x2)
I just called to say I love you
Come back home

A True Story l

At a quarter past the hour there came a knock at the door-
it was Giorgio, late as usual.
'Giorgio, you're late', I yelled from my chair.
I knew it was him. He had a very personal knock.
Besides, I was expecting him.

It was getting dark. That's not true-it was dark already.
Traffic on the Avenue was jammed. Horns were wailing.
Head lights, street lights, on, on.
What excuse would he give this time?
Giorgio was what we called a 'space cadet',
come from what you might well call 'generation text',
as any my age would readily agree.
Brooklyn-born and bred, his name despite,
Giorgio was ultra-likeable, if distractible,
but I was unprepared for what came next.

'Doc, there was this fascinating show on TV-
I mean FAS-cinating. I couldn't stop watching.'

'Oh', I said, without much interest,
irked to be undone by a re-run.

'It was called 'Grimm's Stories'. On channel 31
There's lots. Have you heard of them? '

'uh-huh, I replied, looking at my notes,
I think I've heard of the Grimm's things-
somewhere along the line.'

'Well, this one was about a little old guy with a long beard.
Him and this chick made a deal.
He'd do all her work for free
if she could guess his name.
And she did! '

'Sure, ' I said, sitting back,
'I remember that one.
It's called....

-So one night...

Road to Success

The road to success is not straight,
There is a curve called FAILURE,
A loop called CONFUSION,
Speed bumps called FRIENDS,
Red light called ENEMIES and
caution lights called FAMILY.

But if you have a spare called
DETERMINATION,
An engine called PERSEVERANCE,
Insurance called FAITH and
A driver called JESUS (GOD, ALLAH, ISHVAR)
You will make it to a place called
SUCCESS

Thieves Like Us

Ive watched your face for a long time
Its always the same
Ive studied the cracks and the wrinkles
You were always so vain
Well, now you live your life like a shadow
In the pouring rain
Oh, its called love
Yes, its called love
Oh, its called love
And it belongs to us
Oh, it dies so quickly
It grows so slowly
But when it dies, it dies for good
Its called love
And it belongs to everyone but us
Ive lived my life in the valleys
Ive lived my life on the hills
Ive lived my life on alcohol
Ive lived my life on pills
But its called love
And it belongs to us
Its called love
And its the only thing thats worth living for
Its called love
And it belongs to us
Its called love
Yes its called love
Oh, love is found in the east and west
But when love is at home, its the best
Love is the cure for every evil
Love is the air that supports the eagle
Its called love
And its so un-cool
Its called love
And somehow its become unmentionable
Its called love
And it belongs to every one of us
Its called love
And it cuts your life like a broken knife

Misconception

Hmm I just called to hear your voice
Can’t hear what you’re saying (because) you’re drowned by the background noise
What? Huh? I can’t hear you speak up a little louder
Damn! Can you hear me now? Is that better?
I called to confess feelings of love for you
But as time goes by our words became few
Now you ain’t saying nothing
Got me here wondering if I’m annoying
Hey I’m out so I guess this is good-bye
No baby way u going or why…
Hmmm all you said was ‘Alright’
I mean what am I suppose to do
Afterwards, then send me a text ‘love you’
I guess that makes everything crystal blue
‘Lost in time, time in you’
We all need our spaces
Trying to figure out all these phases
It’s too much my memory can’t take this
Sitting here trying to erase shit
Misconception is what I’m speaking about
Can’t say what I think can’t think what I’ll do
I’m here clustered with doubts
I mean ‘love you’ that’s all you can say beau
Now my thoughts are going in a different direction
Making sentence from these words compilation
Hoping for no misinterpretations
Looking for misconceptions so I can make my corrections
I called to have a good time
Enjoy the feeling that you are mine
It didn’t happen so I’ll take my leave I hope I wasn’t annoying you
I left because I wasn’t getting what I wanted out of you
Enjoy your day … and oh yeah I love you to.

Tuckers Town

Staring back at you
Did you see my lips
Or were you smiling right in front of me
Your father called my name
Then he smiled with great relief
cause it wasnt me that you were clinging to
He made you turn around
You do that thing you do
And then you laughed with me
I dont know
What I cant see
I dont know but Im makin time to call
I dont know
What I cant see
I dont know but shes watching me leave
Just wish theyd turn around
Just wish theyd try to see
But they dont understand and thats alright with me Im leaving now
Going down to tuckers town
Where I can lie for free
Nobody stares at me and Id love to hurt the population
She called last night
I said Im about to leave
Then I heard him scream, Ill pack your bags
I dont know
What I cant see
I dont know but Im makin time to call
I dont know
What I cant see
I dont know but Im leaving here
To see the world through your rosy glasses
Ill teach you to fly but they teach greed
We live the belt but I can bleed
I dont know............................................
What I cant see........................................
I dont know
What I cant see

The Best Deception

I heard about your trip.
I heard about your souvenirs.
I heard about the cool breeze, in the cool nights,
and the cool guys that you spent them with.
Well I guess I should have heard of them from you.
I guess I should have heard of them from you.
Don't you see, don't you see,
that the charade is over?
And all the "Best Deceptions" and "Clever Cover Story" awards go to you.
So kiss me hard
'cause this will be the last time that I let you.
You will be back someday
and this awkward kiss that tells of other people's lips will be of service
to keeping you away.
I heard about your regrets.
I heard that you were feeling sorry.
I heard from someone that you wish you could set things right between us.
Well I guess I should have heard of them from you.
I guess I should have heard of them from you.
I'm waiting for blood to flow to my fingers,
I'll be all right when my hands get warm.
Ignoring the phone, I'd rather say nothing.
I'd rather you'd never heard my voice.
too late to be gracious
and you do not warrant long good-byes.
You're calling too late.

Theres a time that comes in a mans life
When is real, want it all, when his mind is right
It could come at any time, morning, noon or night

You know Im right there with you, dog, but she wont

Cause thats your lady, yes, thats your baby
Shes a seed, feed her well, watch her blossom out
And only the real players out there can dig what Im

Be that man, be that one, do the things she loves
Pay attention, should I mention how it all was once

Cause sooner or later shell be gone, what youre

Red! Red! Red!
Is there no black?
Red like the bloody earth, this pack!
Knaves! Kings! Queens!- all red!
Where are the black?
Shuffle again!
Will not the other cards come back?
The only cards to clear the brain!
Dear God, ‘twill crack!
Shuffle again!
Red! Red! Red!

Black! Black! Black!
Is there no red?
Has all the blood on earth been shed?
Each Queen! Each King! and every Jack!
Where are the red?
Shuffle again!
Has blood within the world all bled?
The millions mourning for the slain?
The million dead?
Shuffle again!
Black! Black! Black!

Love Street

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Ohh...ho...
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Ohh...ho...
It seems we've lost our touch
Used to be so in love, yeah, uh
But somehow we've gotten off-track
And we never really got it back, no, yeah
I think we better find a way, yeah
And get right back to them good old days, good old days
Wanna make it to Heaven's gate, yeah (oh)
And we need to escalate, I need
I need direction (whoo, I need direction)
To that street called love (to that street called love, yeah)
Lead me to that road (trying to get home, yeah)
Trying to get home (oh take me to love street, yeah)
Now life is gone and skipped a beat
Tell me where are all the dancing feet? Yeah
Boy I tell you there's always something going wrong
Tell me why can't we all just get along
Keep struggling (yeah) just to get by, oh (oh yeah)
So many hills, mountains to climb, yeah
We should all be ashamed of ourselves
'Cause if we don't love ourselves
Tell me how can we love somebody else?
I need direction (whoo, we need direction)
To that street called love (to that street called love yeah)
Lead me to that road (I'm trying to get home)
Trying to get home (come on and take me to love street)
Easter Sunday morning (yeah)
We weredressed up (yeah)
Ready to go and have some... Church
(And I remember feeling so joyful)
Whether East side or the West side
Or the North side or the South side
You were at... Church
(So tell me what is all this fighting for?)
So what is all this pouting about? (and whoa)
What is all this hating about? (whoa)
(We have got to figure out how to get right back to love street)
I need directions (we need direction, whoa)
To that street called love (to that street called love, yeah)
Lead me to that road (trying to get home)
Trying to get home (would you take me straight to love street, yeah)
I need directions (I need some direction yeah) (ohh)
To that street called love (yes I do, yes I do) (yes I do, yeah)
Lead me to that road (please let me lead me to that road) (yeah)
Trying to get home
Heard somebody say (Toot-toot, beep-beep)
Heard somebody say (Tell me how to get to love street) yeah
Heard somebody say (Toot-toot, beep-beep) yeah
Heard somebody say, yeah (Tell me how to get to love street) yeah
Here we go, here we go, here we go
You make a right on L
Make a left on O
Come to a green light
And that's when you can go (whoa)
You keep straight on V
Until you come to E
That's when you see a big sign that says
Welcome to Love Street
I need direction (welcome to my street sign)
To that street called love (yeah, yeah) (welcome) (yeah, yeah, whoo)
Lead me to that road (lead me to that road yeah)
Trying to get home (oh yeah) (oh ho...)
(Tell me how to get to love street)
Tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, yeah, ohh...
(Tell me how to get to love street)

It's love o'clock y'all
And ya'll listing to the sounds of the Chocolate Factory
This next one goes out to the ladies

(Personal Poem) Big Sister is Missing

You don't have to sanction what I'm doing.
I need not your approval to continue on.
Though at times it would be nice.
To hear from you.
To say I'm glad your still alive.
But silence is all you give me.
I think its all I'll ever see.
In a world behind closed doors.
Miles off in the distance who cares.
Well I do.
And I'll remind you everyday if I have to.
I'm not going anywhere.
And this I swear.
With every angry breath of air.
I still love you.
We are blood and it'll never be forgotten.
Even in hell on earth and much worse.
I will never speak to you from something rehearsed.
I will speak only the word that comes to me.
Small and incidental to most.
But I don't care because I'm trying to reach a ghost.
Somebody who disappeared over five months ago.
poof gone with no given notice.
Not a single phone call.
Nothing to let me know the kids are alright.
So just talk to me my big sister.
Contact me by email,
Contact me by phone.
Contact me by address.
Anyway to let me knowing your doing alright.
Cause I no longer see your light.
I'm so afraid something bad might have happen.
Without a trace, with my soul searching for the right words to say.
I'm sorry for anything and everything I've done to you.
Anything to bring you back to my reality.
A wake up call.
Can you hear me at all.
This is not funny.
I don't know where you are.
Is it far.
I'm so in the dark.
I'm going pray for you everyday till contact is made.

On the Bus

Stood for ages waiting for the bus
then at last one did finally arrive
as usual it was full to brimming
and as noisy as a Bee Hive.
At the back there were school kids
and one of them was smoking a fag
an old lady told him to put it out
but he refused and called her an old bag.
Thankfully the smoker got off the next stop
but not before giving the lady the V sign
then a drunk bloke got on and sat next to me
and he smelt of stale cigarettes and wine.
He tried to make conversation not just with me
but with all the passengers on the lower deck
he then tried chatting up a teenage girl
who told him he looked a bit like Shrek.
A woman was talking loudly on her mobile phone
saying that her doctor told her not to worry
we all heard about her weight problems
as the doctor told her to cut down on chips and Curry.
So if your looking for inspiration for a poem
or you've writers block and feeling non plus
don't just sit there staring out of the window
do what I just did and hopped on a local Bus!

Star 69

You dont have to take the bar exam to see
What you did is ignoramus 103
Where have I got to hang my hat
You dont have line to me
All this just to be your friend
I was there to tell you
Extortion and arson, petty larceny
I know you called. I know you called. I know you called.
I know you called. I know you called. I know you hung up my line.
Star 69.
I know all about the warehouse fire.
I know squirrelies didnt chew the wire.
Three people have my number, the other two were with me.
I dont stand tall, but Im not your patsy.
This time you have gone too far with me.
I know you called. I know you called. I know you called.
I know you called. I know you called. I know you hung up my line.
Star 69.
Whyd you put your quarter down on me?
This reads like some dark inside edition, hard copy.
I cant be your character witness, I cant be your alibi.
Dont arrange the fbi, here this spy versus spy.
You my friend are guilty as can be.
I know you called. I know you called. I know you called.
I know you called. I know you called. I cant be your alibi.

Old Joe was Bingo mad

I once knew a bloke called Joe
who was addicted to playing Bingo
he played nearly every day of his life
which cost him his marriage and his wife.
But Joe just could never pack it in
even though he hardly ever did win
as soon as he got out of his bed
the thought of Bingo came into his head.
The biggest win he ever had was sixty quid
and even then he shared it with his pal Sid
but Joe said one day he'd win the jackpot
and then he'd go and live somewhere hot.
But his long suffering wife called Flo
said she'd had enough of his silly Bingo
she shouted to Joe so what's it going to be,
your stupid addiction to playing Bingo or me?
But sadly Joe was now too far gone to care
when Bingo was on he just had to be there.
But alas Joe never won the Bingo jackpot
and he never ended living somewhere hot
the most he won was that sixty quid
and even worse Flo went off with his mate Sid.
I heard that Joe passed away playing Bingo
but I know that's how he would have wanted to go
I bet old Joe died with a smile on his face
because at least to Joe he was in the right place!

Over The Falls

They broke out in laughter again,
His lip beaded with sweat as they strapped him in,
And he stood by and waited to be called.
The talk was of times that had gone by
And the quantity and quality of women they lie.
His eyes welled with wet and his mouth had gone dry.
As he stood by and waited to be called.
He stood by and waited to be called.
He stood by and waited like the others before
For his turn to go over the falls.
He got up and tried it again.
For lack of persistence is surely a sin.
As he stood by and waited to be called,
He looked to the lightning with glee
And admired his vessel for its symmetry,
Feeling twelve units shy of a bachelors degree.
As he stood by and waited to be called.
He stood by and waited to be called.
He stood by and waited like the others before
For his turn to go over the falls.

Greengage Jam

I'm a jar of Greengage Jam
And I'm upset because of a remark made by a man
JJ is his name, he's tall, good looking and funny
Because one day he said ‘I love the taste of sweet honey'
Well that for me is not what I expected to hear
Not when only this morning he called me ‘dear'
We would always meet for breakfast at around 8
And before he picks me up and spreads me on his plate
He'd carefully pop my top off and look inside and say ‘wow you do look yummy'
And take a mouthful with a spoon that quickly disappears in his tummy
With a smile he'd then put me on his shoulder so he could hear
These loving words - ‘thank you my dear'
But this time, before he could put me down to finish his tea
I shouted loudly - 'Marry Me, Marry Me'
To which he promptly and calmly replied - ‘let's talk about it later'
And quickly put me back in the refrigerator
