My Cupboard
Behind the Welsh Dresser,
fine china,
dinner plates
and an old vase
is a cupboard.
It is a place I store
dark secrets,
shame,
hidden love
and
old memories.
Its walls are shelved
where books
turn towards me
so as to hide their titles.
My jewels
are housed in
cardboard boxes
so as to hide
their worth.
and old photo's,
in black and white
hold my
memories
The cupboard door
is white
and the door
has panels.
You can see the
grain of the wood
through the paint
and even though
I paint it
every year,
the grain
shows through.
I've tried to reveal,
to show
and tell
my secrets,
those unmasked
truths
but somehow
I never can.
I will have to
keep the key
and even when I die
my secrets,
they will die with me.
Here is my cupboard,
my life,
my memories.
Only go there
if you dare
for the truth
will pierce your heart,
challenge your beliefs
change you
rearrange you
and
your ideas
of me.

The Cupboard
Mother: What's in that cupboard, Mary?
Mary: Which cupboard, mother dear?
Mother: The cupboard of red mahogany
With handles shining clear.
Mary: That cupboard, dearest mother,
With shining crystal handles?
There's nought inside but rags and jags
And yellow tallow candles.
Mother: What's in that cupboard, Mary?
Mary: Which cupboard, mother mine?
Mother: That cupboard stands in your sunny chamber,
The silver corners shine.
Mary: There's nothing there inside, mother,
But wool and thread and flax,
And bits of faded silk and velvet
And candles of white wax.
Mother: What's in that cupboard, Mary?
And this time tell me true.
Mary: White clothes for an unborn baby, mother..
But what's the truth to you?

Song: The Road to Nowhere
To travel the road to nowhere.
The soul's dark amazon.
Eternal peace is anywhere,
the mind might set upon.
To travel the road to nowhere.
To know you're really gone.
And when you finally get there,
to find your god is Ron.
There's something in the cupboard, boy.
There's something in the dark.
There's something in the cupboard, boy,
that leaves a lasting mark.
There's something in the cupboard, boy.
Old secrets gather dust.
There's something in the cupboard, boy,
that reeks decay and must.
To travel the road to nowhere.
Reading signposts from beyond.
As self-deceit completes defeat,
a cold ghost light is shone,
on Ron. On Ron.
He learned to sham at his father's knee.
He knew the power of story.
He lived by lies and fantasies,
and dreamed of fame and glory.
So travel the road but beware,
for he drew an arcane map.
His weak and dismal followers,
could see no fatal trap.
But in his inner circle,
his worth would soon reveal.
To those that rail and cavil,
he'd crush beneath his heel.
There's something in the cupboard, boy.
The sweetest scent of musk.
There's something in the cupboard, boy,
as warm and moist as lust.
To travel the road to nowhere.
It's not the smoothest ride.
To have all faith you must defer,
to a self-referring guide.
To travel the road to nowhere.
To avoid the rush and throng.
Unravel in the space of somewhere,
and sing a specious song.
There's something in the cupboard, boy.
It's got an evil breath.
There's something in the cupboard, boy,
that toys with fear and death.
To travel the road to nowhere.
And wield your magic wand.
A shuffling prisoner of despair,
when fragile hopes abscond.
To travel the road to nowhere.
A funeral dress you don.
All truth is moulded out there,
like a Sci-Fi writer's con.
There's something in the cupboard, boy.
You hear it scratch and whine.
There's something in the cupboard, boy,
both bedevilled and divine.
To travel the road to nowhere.
To follow a different sun.
To travel the road with due care,
not to end as you begun.
To travel the road to nowhere,
to life's grim denouement.
Be sighted by the cross hairs,
released from earthly bond.
To travel the road to nowhere.
Your face is drawn and wan.
Your self-belief masks hidden grief,
while the thief of time moves on.

Secrets In My Mind
Many secrets have lurked in my mind
For years I have told no one around me
Into my mind a door where they hide
And a lock on it that won't let anyone in
The only one to pass through is myself
I have the key to open the lock to my secrets
No one will ever hear the secrets that I hide
There is one thing that I will reveal
I will say that I never have revealed my true self
My real identity lies within myself
Afraid to come out and take over me
Letting everyone see who I really am in life

Secrets
[children playing]
late in September
memories I can't erase
the shiver through autumn
the memory of your face
'cause I grew much older
I wonder
whatever I could have done
to fight all the magnets
but I close my eyes
and find truth in what I'm sayin'
they thought it was all a lie
how could they deny it when I was just a
little child
secrets I kept inside me
no one can understand
secrets I had to hide
'cause no one would hold my hand when
secrets for me to know
and never for you to see
secrets for only me
emotions so bother my soul
to know that I felt much pain
I thought it would go far away
it did for the moment
find truth in what I'm sayin'
they thought it was all a lie
how could they deny it when I was just a child

Jane
J. spinks
Looks like she came from the sixties
Wearing flowers in her hair
Still in love with sgt. pepper
Seen it all cos she was there
Saving up her memories for another rainy day - jane
Sending out an invitation
Tries to hide her dream affair
Confidential information
Making headlines everywhere
She could tell the truth and watch the words get
Re-arranged - jane
Look at all these nowhere people
Little piggies everywhere
Never keeps their name or number
String of pearls that she cant wear
One day all her secrets might be in the news
Again - jane
Saving up her memories for another rainy day - jane
One day all her secrets might be in the news
Again - jane

Secrets
Secrets
In the dark
In the darkness you will find
Dirty little secrets we all hide
Cause' we all have a darker side
A place we keep where no one else will find
Cause' everybody wants to hide their secrets away
Nobody wants to stand up to the pain
But I will stand up to the pain
Wake up and fight again
If you could dance with me through this rain
And we will fight, we'll fight again, fight again
In the back, in the closets of your mind
Thats where skeletons and dirty secrets hide
And I'll rip out my insides
And leave them on this bed for you tonight
Cause' everybody wants to hide their secrets away
Nobody wants to stand up to the pain
But I will stand up to the pain
Wake up and fight again
If you could dance with me through this rain
And we will fight, we'll fight again, fight again
(fight again, fight again)
Nobody left, I hide my secrets away,
In the dark, in the dark, in the dark
We all try to hide our secrets away,
In the dark, in the dark, in the dark
Stand up to the pain
Wake up and fight again
If you could dance with me through this rain
And we will fight, we'll fight again, fight again
Fight again
Cause' everybody wants to hide their secrets away
And that's ok
Nobody wants to stand up to the pain
Fight again

The secrets of life...
As I peruse the pathways of memories within my mind,
I relive it all like a wave of emotion washing over me,
Paddling in a sea of distant dreams once lived,
My dreams have made me the man that I am today,
Yet I seek more, I yearn to know the secrets of life it's self,
To look into the eye of existance and say, 'I know you! '
The secrets of life tempt and torture me daily,
For these secrets have never been set in stone,
Open your heart and life's secrets shall be revealed...
Spread the love... The peace will follow...

A grief ago
'There is no grief
which time does not lessen
or soften' -
so said Cicero, a man so often right;
a Stoic, those for whom
all life presents a lesson
to be learned from,
and then, to move on from..
But I wonder about all this:
is grief ever lessened or softened?
Is it not, perhaps, overlaid
in our so various ways?
For some, grief framed and falsified
to ease that grief;
For some, like hyacinths and crocus bulbs,
left in a dark cupboard in the autumn of our grief
to respond to time, and
become at last
themselves?
gently, gently, the covers pulled
over the loving bed,
the true, the pure, the lovely painful grief,
the memory deep cherished,
gently, gently, folded
into the cupboards of the heart
there to be known, without the door disturbed
until the time - 'a grief ago' as Dylan wrote -
the cupboard opened only for love's sake
without grief...:
those carefully folded memories
brought out and loved
and lived a while...
not grief, not grief...but
the pure memory of grief
and behold,
life.

Skeleton In The Cupboard
Sometimes we run away
from things real and imaginary.
It doesn’t matter how far that we run,
a day will come
when the past catches up to you.
We always think
our skeletons in the cupboard
are always very safe.
Then one day in the future
someone will open the wrong door
and our skeleton in the cupboard
will be revealed forever more.

A Case Of Murder
They should not have left him there alone,
Alone that is except for the cat.
He was only nine, not old enough
To be left alone in a basement flat,
Alone, that is, except for the cat.
A dog would have been a different thing,
A big gruff dog with slashing jaws,
But a cat with round eyes mad as gold,
Plump as a cushion with tucked-in paws---
Better have left him with a fair-sized rat!
But what they did was leave him with a cat.
He hated that cat; he watched it sit,
A buzzing machine of soft black stuff,
He sat and watched and he hated it,
Snug in its fur, hot blood in a muff,
And its mad gold stare and the way it sat
Crooning dark warmth: he loathed all that.
So he took Daddy's stick and he hit the cat.
Then quick as a sudden crack in glass
It hissed, black flash, to a hiding place
In the dust and dark beneath the couch,
And he followed the grin on his new-made face,
A wide-eyed, frightened snarl of a grin,
And he took the stick and he thrust it in,
Hard and quick in the furry dark.
The black fur squealed and he felt his skin
Prickle with sparks of dry delight.
Then the cat again came into sight,
Shot for the door that wasn't quite shut,
But the boy, quick too, slammed fast the door:
The cat, half-through, was cracked like a nut
And the soft black thud was dumped on the floor.
Then the boy was suddenly terrified
And he bit his knuckles and cried and cried;
But he had to do something with the dead thing there.
His eyes squeezed beads of salty prayer
But the wound of fear gaped wide and raw;
He dared not touch the thing with his hands
So he fetched a spade and shovelled it
And dumped the load of heavy fur
In the spidery cupboard under the stair
Where it's been for years, and though it died
It's grown in that cupboard and its hot low purr
Grows slowly louder year by year:
There'll not be a corner for the boy to hide
When the cupboard swells and all sides split
And the huge black cat pads out of it.

Your Eyes
Youre not in control
when theres demands put on your heart
you dont even know
cause when its real you fall to hard
and yet even so
you try to play like nothings wrong
no you cant run away
there is no hiding place
cause you cant run from your heart
Chorus:
Your eyes they tell me secrets that you
you cant deny
your eyes they show me feelings that you
hold deep inside
how would I know the secrets
that you try to hide
cause when I look in your eyes
the truth is alive
I knew youd be mine
So now that its on
its time to face reality
its time to be strong
take on your insecurities
dont be afraid
youve gotta let your feelins flow
no you cant run away
there is no hiding place
youve gotta be true to your heart
Chorus
now that youre all turned out
dont you just love the way that it feels
yeah, yeah
Now you cant do without my love
and you know its for real
now why youd deny yourself
Id never, never, never understand
because I love you
and you love me too
and that just the way that it is yeah
Chorus (2 times)
your eyes, your eyes, your eyes
they tell me secrets that you keeps inside
your eyes, your eyes, your eyes
dont be afraid aint nowhere to hide
how would I know the secrets that you try to hide
cause when I look in your eyes the truth is alive
I knew youd be mine

Wonder 'Bout
Everyday, everyday, everday
Late at night, I think about you sometimes
I don't cry, I wonder if you're alright
Late at night, I think about you sometimes
Wonder why, I wonder if you're alright,
Thinking of the love we made
Round and round,
Now you're gone
Now you're back again
Confusing true love and pain
Threw me down
Now I'm back on my feet again
Are you asleep
Or are you still afraid of the dark?
Hugs and Kisses, pictures and romances,
Things that I wish I could do without
How many nights did I wonder in the dark,
Counting secrets of my heart,
Now and then, I wonder 'bout,
Whose seeing sleeping with you now,
How many times did I kiss you in the dark?
Watching memories depart
Then again I wonder 'bout
But I don't give a damn about you.
Say goodbye the pleasures really so mine
Keep in mind, I think about you sometimes
I'm alright, I think about you when...
Turn this light into a singer's delight
Living in a house of pain
Round away and I'm glad that I ran away
Rather be out in the rain,
Now I understand why my mother ran away.
There's no use asking,
When did I start acting like such a jerk (you too)
Washing dishes, birthday wishes, watching baseball matches,
The other future that I wonder 'bout.
So many things I wish I didn't Wonder 'Bout
How many nights did I wonder in the dark,
Counting secrets of my heart,
Now and then, I wonder 'bout,
Whose seeing sleeping with you now,
How many times did I kiss you in the dark?
Watching memories depart
Then again I wonder
But I betcha, I betcha don't give a damn about
How many nights did I wonder in the dark,
Counting secrets of my heart,
Now and then, I wonder 'bout,
Whose seeing, sleeping with you now,
How many times did I kiss you in the dark?
Watching memories depart
Then again I wonder 'bout
But I don't give a damn about you.
Everyday...everyday
How many nights did I wonder in the dark,
Counting secrets of my heart,
Now and then, I wonder 'bout,
Whose seeing, sleeping with you now,
How many times did I kiss you in the dark?
Watching memories depart
Then again I wonder 'bout
But I don't give a damn about you.

Hallowe'en
I tried to rearrange my few books and I kept the unhinged door aside of my cupboard.
Oh! There were full of roaches dancing.
Suddenly I took the insect killer spray can and I changed my notion after realizing the fact.
They too have the right to participate31 October, eve of All Saints' Day.
Isn't it?

Memories
Memories of good times
Memories of bad times
Memories of our love
So many memories
Memories of us crying
Memories of us laughing
Memories of our commitment
So many memories
Memories of us hugging
Memories of us kissing
Memories of those late nights
So many memories
Memories of how we met
Memories of how you left
Memories of what you said
So many memories
Why did you leave me
with so many memories
Did you ever realize
that my memories are yours
Everything we did together
stays within our memories
I remember getting hurt
Do you hurt too
Let's make a new memory
that we can both share
Let's love again
in our memories

Shame
Ive done things God shouldve questioned
But I dont care.
Ive seen things that made my flesh crawl
But I was young.
Ive said things that you believed in
But I dont mean.
I heard things, one more confession that
Leaves me cold.
My picture ashames you
My picture
My picture ashames me
My picture
This aint love, this aint affection
But you dont care.
This aint need, Im not the fashion
So leave my heart.
So good God were you mistaken
Now will I burn?
No more lies no more distraction
So pay you back.
Religion ashames you
Religion
Religion ashames me
Religion
Im lying shame on me
(secrets forever)
This disease shame on me
(secrets forever)
My memories shame on me
(secrets forever)
Abandon,abandon me
(secrets forever)
This fashion ashames you
This fashion
This passion ashames me
This passion
Ill never ashame you
Ill never ashamed me.
A stranger, shame on me
(secrets forever)
Nostalgia, shame on me
(secrets forever)
Religion, shame on me
(secrets forever)
Abandon, abandon me.
Ive done things God shouldve questioned
But I dont care.

The River Knows
Englyn unodle crwca
Quietly the river flows
never telling all it knows.
Has no reason I suppose and no voice.
We rejoice it does.
Whilst the river holds its peace.
We need not fear it might release,
From its store of memories: Dark secrets.
It forgets and heeds our pleas.
Secrets which we wish to hide.
We can cast our cares aside.
The wise river will decide, not to tell.
suits us well, all denied
Sins we now view with regret
.Sins we would we could forget
The river will keep secret for ever
and never cause upset.

Live To Tell (Live)
I have a tale to tell
Sometimes it gets so hard to hide it well
I was not ready for the fall
Too blind to see the writing on the wall
A man can tell a thousand lies
Ive learned my lesson well
Hope I live to tell the secrets I have learned, till then
It will burn inside of me
I know where beauty lives
Ive seen it once I know the warmth she gives
The light that you could never see
It shines inside, you cant take that from me
A man can tell a thousand lies
Ive learned my lesson well
Hope I live to tell the secrets I have learned, till then
It will burn inside of me
The truth is never far behind
You kept it hidden well
If I live to tell the secrets I knew then
Will I ever have a chance again ?
If I ran away, Id never have the strength to go very far
How would they hear the beating of my heart ?
Will it grow cold the secrets that I hide ? Will I grow old ?
How would they hear ? They would they learn ?
How would they know ?
A man can tell a thousand lies
Ive learned my lesson well
Hope I live to tell the secrets I have learned, till then
It will burn inside of me
The truth is never far behind
You kept it hidden well
If I live to tell the secrets I knew then
Will I ever have a chance again ?
A man can tell a thousand lies
Ive learned my lesson well
Hope I live to tell the secrets I have learned, till then
It will burn inside of me

His Dressing Gown
His multi coloured dressing gown resides in my cupboard
for a another chance to adorn his body, that firm back,
his manly stance and his naughty bottom bits.
I shrink back from it every now and then for it reminds me
of those tender moments; the way he shaved.
the way he dried his hair, the way he brushed it.
Sometimes when I'm cold I pull on the bloody thing and
it warms me through and I imagine the scent of him,
then I take it to bed and fall asleep in it.
When summer comes I hide it at the back of my
very deep wardrobe, like the inner corners of my mind
and try to forget,
but it won't stay hidden and knocks, tap, tap, tapping at the door
keeping my memories urgently alive and my mind
ever lingering on images.

Ode to The Scent Of Cinnamon
The heady scent of cinnamon
Upon the opening of the door
The tugging out of memories
From the mind’s musty store
The warm, soft smell of pie crust
Upon the opening of the oven
The revisiting of the memories
The huggin’ and the lovin’
The aromatic aura of apples
Baked with a crispy honeyed glaze
The remembering of the memories
Kitchen memories, happy days
The Smell of hot peach cobbler,
The tantalizing odor of allspice
The callin’ back of the memories
Kitchen memories, warm and nice
Red and white checkered aprons,
Flour dappled, love lined faces
The tearful tug of way old memories
Memorable kitchens, happy places
The heady scent of cinnamon
Upon the opening of the door
Is one of the bestest of my memories
And likely will be… forever more
Ahhh…The heady scent of cinnamon!
