A Step Too Far

He stepped out of a sinking ship,
he didn't stumble, fall or trip
but stepped with solid footing in
for refuge in her warm kitchen.

The fridge was stocked with meat and booze,
he gladly helped himself to this.
His belly hurt, he burped and farted.
feasting ‘till his bottom hissed.

When he awoke at break of day
his aching head all full of pain,
he blamed the kitchen for his fate,
and smashed the cups and dinner plates.

He slammed the cupboards and what's more
he threw the cutlery on the floor!
Then when he'd done with causing havoc,
and she threw him out for shame,

he found he'd stepped a step too far
and begged to be let in again.

Another World

I was so low
People almost made me give up trying
Always said no
The I turned around saw someone smiling
I stepped into
I stepped into
Into another
Into another
I stepped into
I stepped into
Into another
Into another world
There was no light
I was going to all the wrong places
Like day from night
Suddenly I saw a thousand faces
I stepped into
I stepped into
Into another
Into another
I stepped into
I stepped into
Into another
Into another world

Squalor & Chips

My angel of the night
came down the stairs of morning
his hair, brown locks of greasiness,
his mouth, those sweet lips, yawning.

He stopped three steps from earth that day
and gazed at trainers in his way
and then as I began to pray,
stepped over and ignored them.

He took four steps across the room
he missed the cloth, the pan, the broom
and squashed cold chips, bare footed
upon the kitchen flooring!

Alas my fallen angel there,
sat his bottom on a chair
and sweeping hand through tousled hair,
ate his breakfast without care.

Without thought for chips all squashed,
flattened on that kitchen floor.
A floor so needy for a wash
as I exclaimed, "Oh my dear God! "

I found the mop, the bucket too
I cleaned the floor, mopped up the goo
and then I had a notion to,
but my angel wouldn't let me through.

Squashed chips on the kitchen floor
last nights washing up,
sticky table, dustbins full
and an empty coffee cup.

The Snake Wisdom

The man seen the snake.
And stepped on it head
The snake didn’t bite his heel
Saying the man didn’t see it
Thus innocent and deserved
forgiveness from daughter of wisdom.

The blind man come same path
Didn’t see, the snake.
And stepped on it tail
The snake bitten his heel
Saying that the man seen it
Stepped on it intentionally
Thus guilty and deserved punishment
from just, fair and wise animal

You Stepped Into My Dreams

(ian hunter)
(transcribed by colin ford)
That's it baby, take one last look
We gotta go catch a plane
Then you won't die, and i won't die
But we won't ever be the same
Oh i can feel a mood coming down on me
Such a good thing disappears
I can sense the loss creeping up on us
And it's deeper than any tears i've known
You stepped into my dreams
You opened up the door
You stepped into my dreams
I want you back for more
You stepped into my dreams tonight
In the shadows of a major story (?)
In the morning we was gone
Won't you blow a kiss to me baby
We both gotta be moving on
Sometimes you see a lover and she's made for love
But you let that lover slip by
You believe and yet she's so hard to get
And you never know the reasons why
She stepped into your dreams
She opened up your door
She stepped into your dreams
You want her so much more
She stepped into your dreams tonight yeah
Oh when you're doing what you're doing
What do you think of me babe
There ain't much else to say
In another time, in another place
Things might have turned out okay
I can feel a darkness i can never conceal
Sometimes i get just a little insane
I can feel emotions like the mighty oceans
They're driving me again, and i know
You stepped into my dreams
You opened up the door
You stepped into my dreams
I want you back for more
You stepped into my dreams
And i don't know what to do
I'm so scared of losing you.

Muddy Water

I spend most of my life with this guitar
Playing my songs
Playing the role of a juggler
Hard and long
My pieces of this puzzle my life
I can't fit together
I seem shattered, and darkened down weather
Lost forever
See no one
No guest of my reflection been drawn
See no one, no one, no one
So don't stir up this dirt in this puddle and settle at the bottom
Unfortunately I done stepped my foot in muddy water
I try and pace my steps in an ordinary fashion through the doorway
Unfortunately I done stepped my foot in muddy water
I rolled over on nickels
Rolled and got out
I just kept on walking
Not knowing who I was
Where was I scarred and bleeding
Through blurred vision I saw freshened lines
Across the horizon
I was out of my skull, I was torn, I was tired
So just down another shot it's just one more ache in the morning
Take another hit it's just one more cell you'll be killing'
Have another beer it's just a few more words you'll be yelling'
Go have your self a ball
And take two of these and call me in the morning
So don't stir up this dirt in this puddle and settle at the bottom
Unfortunately I done stepped my foot in muddy water
I try and pace my steps in an ordinary fashion through the doorway
Unfortunately I done stepped my foot in muddy water
Water, water

Stepped Out With A Greeting Of My Fate

I've stepped out with a greeting of my fate.
I've stepped out with a greeting of my fate.

Way pass mechanics,
With a seeing 'it' as it is...
And with examined antics that can panic,
Leaving those hopes on automatic...
Disappointing but coping,
With emotional deficits...
I feel I have an advantage.

Why bob for apples...
When from trees they can be picked.

Way pass mechanics and antics that can panic.

Why seek surprises...
From those hiding behind disguises.

No longer with automatic hopes,
To inspire lumps left in my throat.

I've stepped out with a greeting of my fate.
Disappointing but coping,
With emotional deficits to leave to learn...
It is my life I must face.

I've stepped out with a greeting of my fate.
Disappointing but coping,
With emotional deficits to leave to learn...
It is my life I must face.

She Only Exist In Dreams

She only exist in a dream
She only existed in a dream an old man dreamt, in his lonely cottage,
when sitting by the fireside patting his dog’s head. Knock on his door,
there she stood looking a dream and since he knew her he invited her
in. His dog happy too it had a bald pat top of its head, and the wood
in the hearth roared its approval. The elderly man was content too
only the real thing spoke a lot, burped, ate and used too much water
when having a shower and the real sex wasn’t that great either.
When the aged man awoke his chimney corner was cold and full of
ashes, but he was glad it had been a bad dream – perhaps too much
red win had cut down on the booze a bit- He sighed let out the dog,
went into the kitchen and made a cup of coffee, feeling quite relived
that his wishes had not come true.

The Broken Salt Pitcher

Something happened, one I never forget.
Whether caused by a Demon or an Angel I cannot tell.
‘Cos a moral lesson was taught from a sin so grave.
This farted in my mouth and poured in honey.
Honey I love; fart nobody cherishes.
My siblings and I were playing like normal kids,
In the visitor's chamber after mama left for her trade
Papa never came home easy, for his work;
Itinerant trading; from coast to coast went he.
That fateful day, whether Devil's or God's work I will never know
Bang, bang, bang, the ball I threw went
The direction we could control not.
Set in motion for fate to decide.
With a loud crash, the pitcher hit the floor.
Salt and enamel all mixed together.
Just then papa stepped inside.
Who broke this pitcher? Nobody responded.
Straight to the room he went.
I, conscience pricked did the confession later.
But papa said something else was broken.
With confusion all over my face I said nothing was.
He shook his head bitterly and said there was;
And it was something bigger and greater than a jug.
Trust, he said was broken, ‘cos my confession came
Just a little late after I killed his trust in me.

Just A Song

Oh, to get ahead in this world
Takes a lot of kind words
The ruthless damning actions
And I hope, I never have to hurt you
Though I gladly will do
My friend
And I'll be reading in the kitchen
Sipping lazy cups of tea
I won't be brooding in my bedroom
With the shutters down on me
And this song is not cathartic
Because I've done nothing wrong
It's just a song
It's just a song
Oh, you see the more you're trying
The more I know you're lying
The more I start to hate the sight of you
Tell me what would you do?
Pulled by both arms, nearly torn in two
I'll be reading in the kitchen
Sipping lazy cups of tea
I won't be brooding in my bedroom
With the covers over me
And this song is not cathartic
Because I've done nothing wrong
It's just a song
It's just a song
And I'll be reading in the kitchen
Sipping lazy cups of tea
I won't be brooding in my bedroom
With the shutters down on me
And this song is not cathartic
Because I've done nothing wrong
It's just a song
It's just a song
It's just a song
It's just a song

Belch

Breathless, in a net, we captured you-
Ring around the yew tree
Threw you bright-eyed in a gilded cage
And watched to see what would happen next: Surprise!
You thrived and seemed happy enough.

At night you fluffed your feathers
And made yourself egg-big
For insulation-it was a nice trick:
Warmth to your remotest toes.

The kitchen light suddenly turned on,
Late, you'd be found head wedged
Under your wing, asleep for a sec,
Till you awoke, vigilant as ever.

Singing was not your forte. All day
Instead, you belted out your one sole note.
We'd hoped for better, but this was the
Way you registered your will in the world.

That human...

Sex In The Kitchen (remix)

Girl, you're in the kitchen
Cooking me a meal
Something makes me wanna come in there and get a feel
Walk around in your t-shirt
Nothing else on
Strutting past, switching that ass while I'm on the phone
Cutting up tomatoes, fruits and vegetables and potatoes
Girl, you look so sexy while you're doing the damn thang that
I want
Sex in the kitchen, over by the stove
Put you on the counter by the buttered rolls
Hands on the table, on your tippy toes
We'll be making love like the restaurant was closed
How would you like it, baby
(would you like that)
Tell me right now, pretty baby
Hey man, I'm gon' call you back
Girl, you're in the kitchen, chillin' in your robe
I'm saying to myself, "She better go put on some clothes"
Tickling and teasing, doing that little dance
Girl, you gon' make me lay you down
And give it to you one mo 'gain
[chorus 2x]
Girl, I'm ready to toss your salad
While I'm making love, I'll be feasting
Girl, you're in the kitchen
Sweating up a storm
The oven's on five hundred
So you know the kitchen's warm
Girl, you know just how to get into a brother's mind
Cause here we are still in this kitchen
Doing it for the third time
[chorus till fade]

You Stepped Out Of A Dream

(nacio h. brown, gus kahn)
You
Stepped out of a dream,
You are too wonderful
To be what you seem.
Could there be eyes like yours?
Could there be lips like yours?
Could there be smiles like yours,
Honest and truly?
You
Stepped out of a cloud,
I want to take you away
Away from the crowd,
And have you all to myself,
Alone and apart.
Out of a dream
Safe into my heart.
~interlude~
You
Stepped out of a cloud,
I want to take you away
Away from the crowd,
And have you all to myself,
Alone and apart.
Out of a dream,
Safe into my heart...
Wa-dee-la-la
Out of a dream!

The Visitor

The Visitor

When I woke up in the night I saw him standing
in the doorway giggling devilishly at me, I got
out of bed and screamed: ”Not Now! ” Grabbed
a picture from the wall, (a painting of Jesus on
the cross) and threw it after him.

The frame hit him square on his forehead, blood
oozed down his hairy body, a pool on the floor,
slimy liquid full of worms, wriggling maggots and
venomous snakes that swayed and hissed to their
master’s horrid laughter.

A stir in the air the fiend became a grey dissipating
mist and the echo of his giggles faded into silence.
In the morning I found the broken frame and glass,
softly picked the saviour up and rinsed him under
the kitchen sink.

Blood On Dance Floor

Visions of lithe grace,
Flowing with rhythm,
Immersed in melody,
Wrapped up like-
Soul in a body
She adorned dance floor.

Eloquent Kohl-lined eyes
Showed pain of the tune
Her willowy silhouette
Articulated the tale
And mesmerized by trance
Of her dance
I stepped on dance floor.

Meticulous lessons followed
To transform tautness
Into arresting moves
But sometimes pain endured
And yearnings of heart
Futile, as bodies never lie
Motionless, I lingered on dance floor.

The more I loved fantasy
More it eluded me
But fate bestowed a call
And then I performed
Till, cheerful applaud
Reverberated, my ears,
Call it, enchantment on dance floor.

Dispensing pain
Raising in my head
And moist in my eyes
Blurring my vision
I looked upon
Stunned folks gathered
And then I saw
Blood on dance floor.

Buddha Thoughts (No More)

we are an archaic,
infantile people who
would crucify Jesus again,

and take Buddha's outer kingdom
over his inner one!
we limit our concepts

od God and infinity
to our own understanding,
when that which created

the cosmos lives within
each of us, within
the tiniest insect,

the branch soon to bud!
enlightenment, the pile of dung
you just stepped in,

knowing that you stepped in it!
there need be no more!

Landmine

Well there ain't much entertainment
In a town this size at all
So I've got myself up, dressed for this arraignment
Cause I don't think I'm ready for the fall
Now I find my thoughts deep in this room all by myself
Thinking the moon might just explode if I don't leave
And the more I wait
It seems the more I hate
This town for what it's doing to me
This is when I need you most of all
Then I stepped upon a landmine
And I saw my future rise
I'm getting to know you
Between the lines
I dropped down to about one foot two
Hoping to get more looks for you
But it never made much difference in your eyes
And I suppose that I couldn't help things much
To set this day in a whirlwind rush
After finding out the backseat changed our lives
Then I stepped upon a landmine
And I saw my future rise
I'm getting to know you
Between the lines
Between the lines
It's 5am and if I run
I am sure to pay for what I've done
And if I say I'm sure I wish I ran
And though I knew this day would come
I never thought that I would run
For someone who was blind to me
You're as blind to me as you could be
Na na nana na
Na na nana na
Na na nana na
Yeah
Then I stepped upon a landmine
And I saw my future rise
I'm getting to know myself
Between the lines
Between the lines

The Journey

Anghiari is medieval, a sleeve sloping down
A steep hill, suddenly sweeping out
To the edge of a cliff, and dwindling.
But far up the mountain, behind the town,
We too were swept out, out by the wind,
Alone with the Tuscan grass.

Wind had been blowing across the hills
For days, and everything now was graying gold
With dust, everything we saw, even
Some small children scampering along a road,
Twittering Italian to a small caged bird.

We sat beside them to rest in some brushwood,
And I leaned down to rinse the dust from my face.

I found the spider web there, whose hinges
Reeled heavily and crazily with the dust,
Whole mounds and cemeteries of it, sagging
And scattering shadows among shells and wings.
And then she stepped into the center of air
Slender and fastidious, the golden hair
Of daylight along her shoulders, she poised there,
While ruins crumbled on every side of her.
Free of the dust, as though a moment before
She had stepped inside the earth, to bathe herself.

I gazed, close to her, till at last she stepped
Away in her own good time.

Many men
Have searched all over Tuscany and never found
What I found there, the heart of the light
Itself shelled and leaved, balancing
On filaments themselves falling. The secret
Of this journey is to let the wind
Blow its dust all over your body,
To let it go on blowing, to step lightly, lightly
All the way through your ruins, and not to lose
Any sleep over the dead, who surely
Will bury their own, don't worry.
