The Rhyme Of The Restless Ones
We couldn't sit and study for the law;
The stagnation of a bank we couldn't stand;
For our riot blood was surging, and we didn't need much urging
To excitements and excesses that are banned.
So we took to wine and drink and other things,
And the devil in us struggled to be free;
Till our friends rose up in wrath, and they pointed out the path,
And they paid our debts and packed us o'er the sea.
Oh, they shook us off and shipped us o'er the foam,
To the larger lands that lure a man to roam;
And we took the chance they gave
Of a far and foreign grave,
And we bade good-by for evermore to home.
And some of us are climbing on the peak,
And some of us are camping on the plain;
By pine and palm you'll find us, with never claim to bind us,
By track and trail you'll meet us once again.
We are the fated serfs to freedom -- sky and sea;
We have failed where slummy cities overflow;
But the stranger ways of earth know our pride and know our worth,
And we go into the dark as fighters go.
Yes, we go into the night as brave men go,
Though our faces they be often streaked with woe;
Yet we're hard as cats to kill,
And our hearts are reckless still,
And we've danced with death a dozen times or so.
And you'll find us in Alaska after gold,
And you'll find us herding cattle in the South.
We like strong drink and fun, and, when the race is run,
We often die with curses in our mouth.
We are wild as colts unbroke, but never mean.
Of our sins we've shoulders broad to bear the blame;
But we'll never stay in town and we'll never settle down,
And we'll never have an object or an aim.
No, there's that in us that time can never tame;
And life will always seem a careless game;
And they'd better far forget --
Those who say they love us yet --
Forget, blot out with bitterness our name.

Letting Go
I rise from my death.
My old life is done.
My new life is hardship.
The old life was fun.
Gave it all away.
Not the things that I owned.
The old seeds of my life.
And the things I had sown.
My life was about me.
And the things I could get.
At the expense of another.
In my ways I was set.
I had to lose all I loved.
It was then I could see.
All that I had been.
And not all I could be.
I think of a Man.
And the truths that He’d taught.
He’s the meaning of love.
And love I was not.
Maybe love of myself.
And I got what I gave.
Not the freedom I sought.
But the life of a slave.
I was a slave to the system.
I was chained to the soil.
My spirit was dying.
As my blood it did boil.
Only anger, resentment.
And bitterness remained.
As my spirit lay dying.
I was going insane.
Expectations of others.
What could benefit me?
But my truth was a lie.
And His truth set me free.
If you want the gift of the promise.
Put your life on the cross.
Give your life for another.
And you’ll find what you lost.
Accept others as they are.
Just like God did with us.
Let their path be their choosing.
In the Lord put your trust.
The price has been paid.
For your debts in advance.
So true love you could know.
If you give Him a chance.
His live he gave up.
For you and for me.
Not for who we are now.
But for who we can be.
You are not what you think.
You are more than you know.
If you want to find out.
Then you have to let go.

The Kerrigan Boys
By jove it’s hot on the track today, my flannel is soaked with sweat.
I think I’ll sit in the shade a bit and wait for the sun to set.
I know of a decent camping place by the river beyond the town,
And I’d rather carry my swag through there after the sun goes down.
A touch of pride, well perhaps it is, though I haven’t much cause for pride.
It’s sixteen years to a day almost, since old man Kerrigan died.
Sixteen years and his place is sold and the fortune he left us spent,
For the road down hill is an easy road and that was the way we went.
Kerrigan, that was our father’s name, was one of the tough old sort.
And he held by graft as he held by God, and he hated drink and sport.
We lads were fond of a bit of fun though he kept us under the rein,
And we had to bow to the old man’s will, though it went against our grain.
He was kind enough in his hard old way, but we had to earn our keep,
Driving horses and milking cows, branding and shearing sheep.
No wonder we bucked a bit at times, for you know what youngsters are,
We mustn’t dance at the local hall or drink in Mulligan’s bar.
Well, those were the orders the old man gave, but we did it just the same,
Jack was two years younger than I, so I was the more to blame.
But I’ve often thought had he been less hard and left us a bit more free
It might have been better for him perhaps, and better for Jack and me.
The old man dropped in the yard one day where we had the weaners penned.
We picked him up and we carried him home but we knew that it was the end.
The neighbours gathered from miles around he hadn’t a single foe,
And the crowd that stood by the open grave spoke well of the man below.
We grieved a lot for the old man’s death though he left us wealthy men;
If we had not known what he meant to us we realized it then.
Our only sister had died at birth and our mother was long since dead,
And we found that we were the only heirs when the old man’s will was read
We were just a couple of country lads; we’d never been off the farm,
We’d been held in check from our boyhood up by the weight of the old man’s arm.
Good in the saddle and fair with our fists with a touch of the old man’s pride,
But the neighbours muttered and shook their heads when old man Kerrigan died.
Hard and all as the old man was for years he had kept a stud.
For the love of the horse for the horses sake is strong in the Irish blood.
But breeding was only a hobby with him a sort of a harmless craze,
Though I’d often thought that he had his fling way back in his younger days.
We got mixed up with a racing crowd and started to go the pace.
Forgot the sound of the old man’s voice and the frown on his rugged face.
For the road down hill is and easy road though it ends in a swift descent,
We were only youngsters, a reckless pair, and that was the way we went.
We staked for a win on the Chester colt on the strength of a trail he showed.
But someone got to the boy on top, we knew by the race he rode.
He lost ten lengths and he finished last it was useless to make a fuss,
For the men we met in the racing game were far too cunning for us
We backed him again in the Greytown Cup and he won by half the straight,
But we left our cash in the bookies bags, for he failed to draw the weight.
We cursed the jockey and we cursed the horse, and we sold him there and then.
We’d had enough of the racing game and the ways of racing men.
We could have got out of our troubles still if we put our hands to the plough,
But the life of leisure and cards and drink had got the grip on us now.
You may call it flashness or call it pride or simply a want of sencse,
But the publicans and auctioneers grew wealthy at our expense.
We sat and drank in Mulligan’s pub and gambled the whole night long.
We dealt in cattle and dealt in sheep and most of our deals went wrong.
As long as the banks would cash our cheques we didn’t care what we spent,
For the road downhill is an easy road and that was the way we went.
Then things got bad and a drought came on and it lasted over a year.
Our stock died off and our dams gave out and we knew that the end was near.
Our credit stopped and the bank foreclosed and our fathers place was sold,
For the road downhill is and easy road as the prodigal found of old.
Five years after the old man’s death together we took the track.
I wandered into the nearest pub and I had a drink with Jack.
Then he shook my hand and he wished me luck and I knew he was close to tears,
And I’ve never set eyes on Jack since then or heard of him now for years.
Somewhere out to the west of Bourke he’s humping his swag maybe,
Tramping along in the broiling sun and cursing himself and me.
I’d give two years of my worthless life, though it may not last that long,
For one more look at his honest face, one grip of his fingers strong
Well that’s the tale of the Kerrigan boys and the moral is near the end.
You’ll always have plenty of friend at hand as long as you’ve cash to spend.
We had our chance and we played the fool, it’s too late now to repent,
For the road downhill is an easy road and that was the road we went.

The End Of The World
Go if you want to
I never tried to stop you
Know there's a reason
For all of this you're feeling
Low, it's not my call
You couldn't ever love me more
You couldn't love me more
You couldn't love...
Me - I don't show much
It's not that hard to hide you
See in a moment
I can't remember how to
Be all you wanted
I couldn't ever love you more
I couldn't love you more
I couldn't love...
You want me to cry and play my part
I want you to sigh and fall apart
We want this like everyone else
Stay if you want to
I always wait to hear you say
There's a last kiss
For all the times you run this way
It's not my fault
You couldn't ever love me more
You couldn't love me more
You couldn't love...
Love me more
Couldn't ever love me more
I couldn't love you more
I couldn't love
You want me to lie not break your heart
I want you to fly not stop and start
We want us like everything else
Maybe we didn't understand
Not just a boy and a girl
It's just the end of the
End of the world
Me - I don't say much
It's far too hard to make you
See in a moment
I still forget just how to
Be all you wanted
I couldn't ever love you more
I couldn't love you more
I couldn't love you more
I couldn't love you more
I couldn't love you more

Blame It On Me
(Bruce Robison)
You're standing there, that look in your eye
You're looking for good ways to tell my good-bye
Something 'bout people, how they never know
They're loving somebody, then lettin' them go
You're looking for reasons but there ain't no need
You can blame it on me
Blame it on me, I was the one
I had no right to turn it all wrong
I held you too close, I couldn't let go
Can't loose your cool these days I know
I'll go on home and you can feel free
To blame it on me
I am too rough, I work too hard
I got no cool friends, I drive an old car
I'm not the picture of any man's dream
Handful of bluebonnets, boots and old jeans
I was a fool to think it could be
So blame it on me
Blame it on me, I was the one
Acting like real life was some old love song
I held you too close, couldn't let go
Can't loose your cool these days I know
Thinkin' forever, ever could be
So blame it on me
When you start looking for ways out of love
Then I've been making mistakes by the dozen
So if you want to leave
You can blame it on me
I held you too close, couldn't let go
Can't loose your cool these days I know
So I'll go on home and you can feel free
To blame it on me
Blame it on me
Blame it on me

All I Have To Do Is Kill Her (live)
All I Have To Do Is Kill myself
Pulling this watch as faces go
Pulling in a word and done it slow this other time
I see your face is silent
Oh, we go away and play
What have you done
Takes a feeling inside us all
Continue out with just one push in my mouth
But you're so close now
And you're so close now
All I have to do is three short blows
All that still is best inside
The full when the wall
And you don't even know
And the other faces here with me
The others dressed in summers thing
If only one way is to be beautiful
If only one way is to the other song
And every time it's you, it's like the blood on the stairs is sent away
And every time we see it's all said before you
If only the ways to kill you
You used to say this fear of drowning
Fear no death by water
Father walks in at the foot of the bed
Six of you want to see you safe
Just one time you'll meet this man
All you've got to do is kill her
And all you've got to do is kill her
Trickle the sands against and pull the animals
Just out of the womb
Seeing the cow dead before he was born
It's the man he, he loved
The solid pieces fell on the ground
He couldn't kill another life
He couldn't kill another life
He couldn't kill another life
It's all been painted with love
It could have been some friends
Pulling strings to meet you
All I want to do is reach it
She says 'Let go my shoulder!'
See the sky!
And the sky goes black
And the sky goes black
I just want to feel her
I just want to feel her
I just want you to feel it
I just want you to feel it -a

I've Seen The Devil (And He Looks Like You)
I've watched people in this world,
do evil things to each other,
I've seen them do evil things to the ones,
that they love and cherish,
but I never understood why they did,
the things that they do,
war to me is so useless,
couldn't we just find other ways,
to settle our differences,
except for trying to talk it out,
we put guns in the arms of our young ones,
Chorus: I've Seen The Devil,
and He looks like you,
I've Seen The Devil,
and he looks like you,
I've Seen The Devil,
and He Looks like you,
but do we really know what its all about,
do we really know why we do the things we do,
like going to war with one another,
trying to beat the devil that lives inside all of us,
I see the devil every single day,
I see him on the late night news,
and I see him on the covers of our magazines,
he tells us it’s going to be alright,
and that the wars going to be over,
only if we follow him,
and his un-holy union,
Chorus: I've Seen The Devil,
and He looks like you,
I've Seen The Devil,
and he looks like you,
I've Seen The Devil,
and He Looks like you,
but I don't see why we should,
follow you and your ways,
follow your path of destruction,
follow you and your destruction of the world,
why should we follow you,
you whisper stuff in our ears,
you say it’s going to be alright,
the next war that we fight will be the war of wars,
and we'll all die a Nuclear Holocaust,
and than we'll start a new,
The world would be new,
like back then when Jesus ruled,
when the world was new,
and not filled with your evilness,
and not filled with you,
Chorus: I've Seen The Devil,
and He looks like you,
I've Seen The Devil,
and he looks like you,
I've Seen The Devil,
and He Looks like you,
ever since time began we've been fighting,
fighting a war that we could never win,
a war within ourselves,
but the people in the world,
they fill us up with religious beliefs,
which is wrong,
and which is right,
we could never win the war within ourselves,
were so fed up with this world,
that we'd kill each other,
and ourselves to find a way out,
because we'd always knew that,
the children of today and the children of now,
would soon become,
children of the grave,
children of the darkness,
they'd become Satan's little soldiers,
Chorus: I've Seen The Devil,
and He looks like you,
I've Seen The Devil,
and he looks like you,
I've Seen The Devil,
and He Looks like you,

Love Is Not Enough
(Jo Dee Messina/Mike Reid)
Sometimes I have to tell myself to keep on breathing
My heart is not believing you're gone
I try hard to remind myself time will do the healing
'Cause right now I'm not feeling all that strong
Everything's a memory
And they're taunting me
Just one simple thing
And I'll break down and cry
Chorus:
Why I wanna scream it's just not fair
Pray to god I didn't care
I wanna turn back time
Turn back time and have you here with me
I want to find someone to blame
But sometimes life gets in the way
And it doesn't care how much we love
'Cause sometimes love is just not enough
Oh we took a chance we gave it all we had and couldn't make it
It didn't work for all the times we tried
No matter how we loved, it seemed the odds were stacked against us
Now we have to live our separate lives
Well I'm not ready yet
Too much to forget
Oh it still feels like
A part of me is dying
Repeat chorus
Sometimes love is just not
How come love is just not
Enough

Worth the Pain
We were best friends from the start
It's been ten or eleven years.
Who would of ever thought
I'd cry so many tears?
The laughter through High School
Always kept me going.
The love between the two of us
Never stopped growing.
Graduation came
And we went our separate ways.
Two years later, we met again...
Oh my, what a day!
I fell for him so hard
That I couldn't find myself.
Lost in so many emotions
I didn't know what I felt.
It was great for a while
Then I started to back away.
I took him for granted
Our relationship began to decay.
After trials of tears and fighting
He decided it would be best,
If we went our separate ways
And put our love to the test.
We tried again to work things out
But it simply didn't work.
And now my pain and selfishness
Continues to stay and lurk.
What if I'd been more open
And cared a little more?
Would he still love me enough
To not walk out the door?
My regret is that I let
Our friendship slip away.
But if I had the chance again,
I'd let him love me anyway.
For if in time we're friends again,
The pain will slowly go.
And the road we took to get us there,
We will surely know...
That it was worth to be loved
And needed at the time,
Because some people go through life
And love they never find.

To Quintus Dellius
Be tranquil, Dellius, I pray;
For though you pine your life away
With dull complaining breath,
Or speed with song and wine each day,
Still, still your doom is death.
Where the white poplar and the pine
In glorious arching shade combine,
And the brook singing goes,
Bid them bring store of nard and wine
And garlands of the rose.
Let's live while chance and youth obtain;
Soon shall you quit this fair domain
Kissed by the Tiber's gold,
And all your earthly pride and gain
Some heedless heir shall hold.
One ghostly boat shall some time bear
From scenes of mirthfulness or care
Each fated human soul,--
Shall waft and leave its burden where
The waves of Lethe roll.
_So come, I prithee, Dellius mine;
Let's sing our songs and drink our wine
In that sequestered nook
Where the white poplar and the pine
Stand listening to the brook_.

The Black Tracker (Or: Why He Lost The Track)
There was a tracker in the force
Of wondrous sight (the story ran):—
He never failed to track a horse,
He never failed to find his man.
They brought him from a distant town
Once more to gain reward and praise,
Nor dreamed the man he hunted down
Had saved his life in bygone days.
Away across the farthest run,
And far across the stony plain,
The outlaw’s horse’s tracks, each one,
Unto the black man’s eyes were plain.
Those tracks across the ranges wide
Right well he knew that he could trace,
And oft he turned aside to hide
The tears upon his dusky face.
Now was his time, for he could claim
Reward and praise if he prevailed!
Now was the time to win him fame,
When all the other blacks had failed.
He struggled well to play his part,
For in the art he took a pride.
But, ah! there beat a white man’s heart
Beneath his old, black wrinkled hide.
Against that heart he struggled well,
But gratitude was in the black—
He failed—and only he could tell
The reason why he lost the track.

Thank You Dear Wife…
Oh thanks to you dear wife
For the wonderful life
We happened to share as
Man and woman, that was.
Sorry that things couldn't be
The best expectedly;
Good that it was so good,
Without much time to brood!
Be happy that we made
It well before we bade
Adieu to life on earth;
Thank God for this nice birth!
Our dreams may have faded;
Queries stay evaded;
We did achieve a bit,
Despite a world, unfit.
Satisfaction is best
In whatever we're dressed;
Forget roads we didn't walk,
And matters we couldn't talk.
There aren't roses sans thorns;
No cattle without horns;
No battles with just wins;
No man without gross sins!
We had a lovely time
Despite inclement clime;
We reached the finish line,
In our own way, quite fine.
Fondly dedicated to my beloved

I'll Be Waiting
I'll be waiting here for you
Can you feel my dream come true
I'll be waiting here for you every day of my life
I'll be waiting here for you
Don't you feel the same way, too
I'll be waiting for the rest of my life
Hold on to what you've got and take my hand
The more we talk the less we understand
The time we shared just seemed to go nowhere
Go nowhere - nowhere
It was the first of july, when I realised, why
While I was walking through the rain
Watching raindrops play their game
Seventeen, seventeen years of pain
I couldn't see, just couldn't see my inner flame
From that day on, sudden I didn't feel alone,
Took all my courage and my pride, I gave myself a ride
Beauty, only comes from deep inside,
I stopped playing with my feelings seek and hide
My great longing in life, was to find that special wife
And everytime one came around,
I hurt her feelings and I found
Out,- it's all about give and take
Last one I did, but the first one was a fake
Honesty was, what I didn't know about
And finally I met the one
That's when I started her to show
Love,- isn't it a compromise
I almost paid the highest price
Come back to what you've got and take my hand
I'm your passion, I'm your fortune, I'm your friend
How can broken hearts just find their way back home
Way back home - again

Since Then
I met Jack Ellis in town to-day --
Jack Ellis -- my old mate, Jack --
Ten years ago, from the Castlereagh,
We carried our swags together away
To the Never-Again, Out Back.
But times have altered since those old days,
And the times have changed the men.
Ah, well! there's little to blame or praise --
Jack Ellis and I have tramped long ways
On different tracks since then.
His hat was battered, his coat was green,
The toes of his boots were through,
But the pride was his! It was I felt mean --
I wished that my collar was not so clean,
Nor the clothes I wore so new.
He saw me first, and he knew 'twas I --
The holiday swell he met.
Why have we no faith in each other? Ah, why? --
He made as though he would pass me by,
For he thought that I might forget.
He ought to have known me better than that,
By the tracks we tramped far out --
The sweltering scrub and the blazing flat,
When the heat came down through each old felt hat
In the hell-born western drought.
The cheques we made and the shanty sprees,
The camps in the great blind scrub,
The long wet tramps when the plains were seas,
And the oracles worked in days like these
For rum and tobacco and grub.
Could I forget how we struck `the same
Old tale' in the nearer West,
When the first great test of our friendship came --
But -- well, there's little to praise or blame
If our mateship stood the test.
`Heads!' he laughed (but his face was stern) --
`Tails!' and a friendly oath;
We loved her fair, we had much to learn --
And each was stabbed to the heart in turn
By the girl who -- loved us both.
Or the last day lost on the lignum plain,
When I staggered, half-blind, half-dead,
With a burning throat and a tortured brain;
And the tank when we came to the track again
Was seventeen miles ahead.
Then life seemed finished -- then death began
As down in the dust I sank,
But he stuck to his mate as a bushman can,
Till I heard him saying, `Bear up, old man!'
In the shade by the mulga tank.
. . . . .
He took my hand in a distant way
(I thought how we parted last),
And we seemed like men who have nought to say
And who meet -- `Good-day', and who part -- `Good-day',
Who never have shared the past.
I asked him in for a drink with me --
Jack Ellis -- my old mate, Jack --
But his manner no longer was careless and free,
He followed, but not with the grin that he
Wore always in days Out Back.
I tried to live in the past once more --
Or the present and past combine,
But the days between I could not ignore --
I couldn't help notice the clothes he wore,
And he couldn't but notice mine.
He placed his glass on the polished bar,
And he wouldn't fill up again;
For he is prouder than most men are --
Jack Ellis and I have tramped too far
On different tracks since then.
He said that he had a mate to meet,
And `I'll see you again,' said he,
Then he hurried away through the crowded street
And the rattle of buses and scrape of feet
Seemed suddenly loud to me.
And I almost wished that the time were come
When less will be left to Fate --
When boys will start on the track from home
With equal chances, and no old chum
Have more or less than his mate.

I Fell For Your Love
Hey baby so now youre goin, is your mind relieved?
Did you get what you wanted and have some fun playin make believe?
I have never lost so much pleasure, so its hard to be nice.
Hey baby feel my hand, aint it cold as ice?
Chorus
cause I fell for your love, when I was out of my mind.
I fell for your love, and now you tell me its time.
To kiss it away, to stand here and say, good-bye.
Cant you understand the way I live?
Half a love is all that I can give.
Lonely ladies and empty faces for a long long time.
And you might be one baby when we meet again and Ill still try to make you mine.
Chorus
I fell for your love when I was out of my mind.
I fell for your love when love was so hard to find.
I gave you my heart and now you tell me its time,
To give up my love when its so damn hard to find.
Love is so hard to find.
Love is so hard to find.
Love is so hard to find.
Im so lonely baby.
Love is so hard to find.
Them empty faces, all I wanted was you.
Love is so hard to find.
I gave you my heart and now you tell me its time,
Love is so hard to find.
To stand and say good-bye.
Love is so hard to find.
Love is so hard to find.
Love is so hard to find.
When its so damn hard to find.
Love is so hard to find.
I fell for your love when I was out of my mind.
(and so on to fade)

The Men That Don't Fit In
There's a race of men that don't fit in,
A race that can't stay still;
So they break the hearts of kith and kin,
And they roam the world at will.
They range the field and they rove the flood,
And they climb the mountain's crest;
Theirs is the curse of the gypsy blood,
And they don't know how to rest.
If they just went straight they might go far;
They are strong and brave and true;
But they're always tired of the things that are,
And they want the strange and new.
They say: "Could I find my proper groove,
What a deep mark I would make!"
So they chop and change, and each fresh move
Is only a fresh mistake.
And each forgets, as he strips and runs
With a brilliant, fitful pace,
It's the steady, quiet, plodding ones
Who win in the lifelong race.
And each forgets that his youth has fled,
Forgets that his prime is past,
Till he stands one day, with a hope that's dead,
In the glare of the truth at last.
He has failed, he has failed; he has missed his chance;
He has just done things by half.
Life's been a jolly good joke on him,
And now is the time to laugh.
Ha, ha! He is one of the Legion Lost;
He was never meant to win;
He's a rolling stone, and it's bred in the bone;
He's a man who won't fit in.

All I Have To Do Is Kill Her
Pulling this watch as faces go
Pulling in a word and done it slow this other time
I see your face is silent
Oh, we go away and play
What have you done
Takes a feeling inside us all
Continue out with just one push in my mouth
But you're so close now
And you're so close now
All i have to do is three short blows
All that still is best inside
The full when the wall
And you don't even know
And the other faces here with me
The others dressed in summers thing
If only one way is to be beautiful
If only one way is to the other song
And every time it's you, it's like the blood on the stairs is sent away
And every time we see it's all said before you
If only the ways to kill you
You used to say this fear of drowning
Fear no death by water
Father walks in at the foot of the bed
Six of you want to see you safe
Just one time you'll meet this man
All you've got to do is kill her
And all you've got to do is kill her
Trickle the sands against and pull the animals
Just out of the womb
Seeing the cow dead before he was born
It's the man he, he loved
The solid pieces fell on the ground
He couldn't kill another life
He couldn't kill another life
He couldn't kill another life
It's all been painted with love
It could have been some friends
Pulling strings to meet you
All i want to do is reach it
She says 'let go my shoulder!'
See the sky!
And the sky goes black
And the sky goes black
I just want to feel her
I just want to feel her
I just want you to feel it
I just want you to feel it
Everytime i looked up the stairs
I used to see her die
She would move so slow
Anyone could've been but she was a cat
Anyone could've been she was a cat
Pulling away as i used to fight
That's just playing so low
That ugly or pretty
The face stays the same
Her face stays the same
Her face stays the same
The ugly or pretty
Her face stays the same, stays the same, stays the same
And looking on the final walls
And looking on the final walls
Did you now find this malice out
The angels fall
Let's make some more ('noise'?)
Let's make some more ('noise'?)
Help me be your mother for just one day
Let's fall in churches far outside
They used to love they used to love...

Foreign Lands
You may roam the wide seas over, follow, meet, and cross the sun,
Sail as far as ships can sail, and travel far as trains can run;
You may ride and tramp wherever range or plain or sea expands,
But the crowd has been before you, and you’ll not find ‘Foreign Lands;’
For the Early Days are over,
And no more the white-winged rover
Sinks the gale-worn coast of England bound for bays in Foreign Lands.
Foreign Lands are in the distance dim and dreamlike, faint and far,
Long ago, and over yonder, where our boyhood fancies are,
For the land is by the railway cramped as though with iron bands,
And the steamship and the cable did away with Foreign Lands.
Ah! the days of blue and gold!
When the news was six months old—
But the news was worth the telling in the days of Foreign Lands.
Here we slave the dull years hopeless for the sake of Wool and Wheat
Here the homes of ugly Commerce—niggard farm and haggard street;
Yet our mothers and our fathers won the life the heart demands—
Less than fifty years gone over, we were born in Foreign Lands.
When the gipsies stole the children still, in village tale and song,
And the world was wide to travel, and the roving spirit strong;
When they dreamed of South Sea Islands, summer seas and coral strands—
Then the bravest hearts of England sailed away to Foreign Lands,
‘Fitting foreign’—flood and field—
Half the world and orders sealed—
And the first and best of Europe went to fight in Foreign Lands.
Canvas towers on the ocean—homeward bound and outward bound—
Glint of topsails over islands—splash of anchors in the sound;
Then they landed in the forests, took their strong lives in their hands,
And they fought and toiled and conquered—making homes in Foreign Lands,
Through the cold and through the drought—
Further on and further out—
Winning half the world for England in the wilds of Foreign Lands.
Love and pride of life inspired them when the simple village hearts
Followed Master Will and Harry—gone abroad to ‘furrin parts’
By our townships and our cities, and across the desert sands
Are the graves of those who fought and died for us in Foreign Lands—
Gave their young lives for our sake
(Was it all a grand mistake?)
Sons of Master Will and Harry born abroad in Foreign Lands!
Ah, my girl, our lives are narrow, and in sordid days like these,
I can hate the things that banished ‘Foreign Lands across the seas,’
But with all the world before us, God above us—hearts and hands,
I can sail the seas in fancy far away to Foreign Lands.

Find My Way
I don't know how to let you go
I've given to you all of me.
All that will ever be,
We share the same heart and soul
I want you to believe in me
See through my eyes and you will know
I'll take my chance that you will come home to me
Even if it takes some time for you to work it out
I'll be there.
I've still got a ways to go,
So far away from home.
Inside I always knew,
I'd Find My Way to you.
I've still got a ways to go,
So far away from home.
Inside I always knew,
I'd Find My Way to you.
If I could be everything you want
If I could change everything that I have done
Only you'd know where I have gone
I wanna prove I am worthy to be called yours
I need you more than I ever have
And I don't wanna stay, try to find me if you can
If I get lost along the way, please don't forget me
Know that I'll be here.
I've still got a ways to go,
So far away from home.
Inside I always knew,
I'd Find My Way to you.
I've still got a ways to go,
So far away from home.
Inside I always knew,
I'd Find My Way to you.
I'll be there, I'll be there
I'll be there, I'll be there
I'll be there, I'll be there
I'll be there, I'll be there
I've still got a ways to go,
So far away from home.
Inside I always knew,
I'd Find My Way to you.
I've still got a ways to go,
So far away from home.
Inside I always knew,
I'd Find My Way to you.
I'll be there, I'll be there
I'll be there, I'll be there
I'll be there, I'll be there
I'll be there, I'll be there
I'll Find My Way to you

I Forget
All my doctors and friends
Have concocted these theories
Weary of seeing me day after day
On the edge of my bed
Leery of living
My laughter on hold
My sadness on stay
And it's been this way for quite a while
Yes, I forget how to smile
I'd like to rely on my old game and yet
Even that I forget
It's not there, I regret
Couldn't get up today
I pretended a fever
Any excuse but the truth will do
I don't lie very well
No I'm not a deceiver
But I can't bring myself to admit that I'm blue
And it's been this way
For quite a while
Yes, I forget how to smile
I'd like to rely on my old game and yet
Even that I forget
It's not there, I regret
The clock and the calendar
Both an assault
Time goes so slow
It must be my fault
I act like I'm okay
When I'm not okay at all
I forget what to do
I forget what it all means
Don't remember if love ever really felt good
I forget to be here
And not in-between
I'd put on a good show
If only I could
And it's been this way for quite a while
Yes, I forget how to smile
I'd like to rely on my old game and yet
Even that I forget
It's not there, I regret
I forget
