Old Tom
The harridan who holds the inn
At which I toss a pot,
Is old and uglier than sin,--
I'm glad she knows me not.
Indeed, for me it's hard to think,
Although my pow's like snow,
She was the lass so fresh and pink
I courted long ago.
I wronged her, yet it's sadly true
She wanted to be wronged:
They mostly do, although 'tis you,
The male bloke who is thonged.
Well, anyway I left her then
To sail across the sea,
And no doubt she had other men,
And soon lost sight of me.
So now she is a paunchy dame
And mistress of the inn,
With temper tart and tounge to blame,
Moustache and triple chin.
And though I have no proper home
Contentedly I purr,
And from my whiskers wipe the foam,
--Glad I did not wed her.
Yet it's so funny sitting here
To stare into her face;
And as I raise my mug of beer
I dream of our disgrace.
And so I come and come each day
To more and more enjoy
The joke--that fifty years away
I was her honey boy.

The Dream: (For my Father)
Over and over again I dream a dream,
I am coming home to you in the starlit gloam;
Long was the day from you and sweet 'twill seem
The day is over and I am coming home.
Then I shall find you as in days long past,
Sitting so quietly in the firelight glow;
'Love,' you will say to me, 'you are come at last.'
Your eyes be glad of me as long ago.
All I have won since then will slip my hold,
Dear love and children, the long years away;
I shall come home to you the girl of old,
Glad to come home to you -- oh, glad to stay!
Often and often I am dreaming yet
Of the firelit window when I've crossed the hill
And I coming home to you from night and wet:
Often and often I am dreaming still.
Over and over again I dream my dream.
Ah, why would it haunt me if it wasn't true?
I am travelling home to you by the last red gleam,
In the quiet evening I am finding you.

Been gone too long

When I Was A Child
when I was a child
so very small
so very young
so very long ago
I had a few
very small wishes
I wanted to
leave this world
a little better
than I found it
I wanted to
be less sinning
than I was
sinned against
I wanted to
give God a good
life witness
from my heart
I wanted to help
people not realizing
many wanted to help
themselves unjustly
very small wishes
so easy to perceive
in innocent childhood years
so hard to lifetime complete
I am glad I kept
my innocence
much longer
than most children
growing up today
I am glad I lived
in an age of values
less are proud to affirm
I am glad truth
was born in my heart
for it is truly better
to give than to receive
I am glad and I smile
because it is to some uncool
but I am still in many ways
that simple childish fool.

I'm So Glad
I'm so glad
I'm so glad
I'm glad, I'm glad, I'm glad
I'm so glad
I'm so glad
I'm glad, I'm glad, I'm glad
Don't know what to do
Don't know what to do
Don't know what I'm gonna do
Another week in
Telephoning
Tired of groaning for you
I'm so glad
I'm so glad
I'm glad, I'm glad, I'm glad
I'm so glad
I'm so glad
I'm glad, I'm glad, I'm glad

Life On Your Own
Winter is approaching
Theres snow upon the ground
Its good of you to visit me
Im glad you came around
I dont know how you found me
I didnt let you know
I only moved to this address
I guess you think I ran out
But thats not true
Other people settle down
I never do
I always have to move on
Just have to go
Ive often wondered why that is
Id like to say but I just dont know
I guess you always wanted
Life on your own
I guess you always wanted
Life on your own
Up here the summers shorter
And winters very cold
Im looking forward to the peace
My lonely life will hold
Im really glad you came here
Thank you for the talk
Its funny how my problem stopped
When we went for a walk
Standing here together
Means so much
I wont forget your confidence
I wont forget your touch
You know Ill come to see you
Passing through
Well always be a world apart
Ill travel on but I will be true
I guess you always wanted
Life on your own
I guess you always wanted
Life on your own
I guess you always wanted
Life on your own
I guess you always wanted
Life on your own

Don't You Want To Be There
Don't you want to be there, don't you want to go?
Where the light is breaking and the cold clear winds blow
Don't you want to be there in the golden glow
Don't you want to be there, don't you want to fly?
With your arms out, let a shout take you across the sky
Don't you want to be there when the time's gone by
Times there was love all around you
Times you were strong and alone
Times you believed love had found you
And you fell through time like a stone
And those you have wronged, you know
You need to let them know some way
And those who have wronged you, know
You'll have to let them go someday
Don't you want to be there?
Don't you want to cry when you see how far
You've got to go to be where forgiveness rules
Instead of where you are
Don't you want to be there, don't you want to know?
Where the grace and simple truth of childhood go
Don't you want to be there when the trumpets blow
Blow for those born into hunger
Blow for those lost 'neath the train
Blow for those choking in anger
Blow for those driven insane
And those you have wronged, you know
You need to let them know some way
And those who have wronged you, know
You'll have to let them go someday
Don't you want to be there?
Don't you want to see where the angels appear
Don't you want to be where there's strength and love
In the place of fear

I Was Glad To Give My Everything To You
(ruby hice, danny hice)
Oh I know its hard for you to say its over
Well its twice as hard for me to let you go
Out there I hope you find a softer shoulder
But before you leave theres something you should know
Chorus:
I was glad to give my everything to you
Yeah we almost made our every dream come true
And though we didnt have the chance to see it through
I was glad to give my everything to you
Oh you say you need a little room for breathing
Somehow I guess you know Id understand
And though youre hurting me
I still cant help in believing
Id be glad if I could do it all again
Repeat chorus
Oh I was glad to give my everything to you

Can't Smile Without You
You know i can't smile without you
I can't smile without you
I can't laugh, and i can't walk
I'm findin' it hard even to talk
And i feel sad when you're sad
I feel glad when you're glad
And you must know what i'm goin' thru
I just can't smile, without you
You came along just like a song
You brightened my day
Who'd believe you were part of a dream
That only seemed light years away
And you know i can't smile without you
I can't smile without you
And you must know what i'm goin' thru
I just can't smile, without you
Some people say the happiness wave
Is somethin' that's hard to find
Into the new leavin' the old behind me
And i feel sad when you're sad
I feel glad when you're glad
And you must know what i'm goin' thru
I just can't smile, without you
And i feel sad when you're sad
I feel glad when you're glad
And you must know what i'm goin' thru
I just can't smile, without you
You must know what i'm goin' thru
I just can't smile, without you

Grandpa's Lake
He was sitting by himself all alone,
Down in a little corner.
Looking out of place, in the funeral home,
And away from all the mourners.
His dad walked up, and I heard him say,
Daddy can I go home?
I don't know why grandpa went away,
But he might be home alone.
I want to be there, when he gets back,
We were going fishing today.
He'll need his hooks and rods, and that burlap sack,
Where he puts the fish away.
His dad looked up, a tear in his eye,
And said 'grandpa's fishing now.'
But it's a great big lake, up in the sky,
And you can't go there right now.
He's fishing with his dad today,
They'll be fishing for some time.
They have a lot to do and say,
Cause to that lake it's a long steep climb.
They haven't seen each other,
In oh, so many years.
And grandpa's glad to see his father,
And both their eyes have tears.
And grandpa's a little boy again,
Just a fishing with his dad.
And on his face there's no more pain,
I hope for him your'e glad.
The little boy just smiled and said,
I guess I'm happy about that.
Yes for grampa I'm very glad,
But for me, I guess I'm sad.
I wanted to go fishing, with my grampa today.
But if you can take me,
To the lake, maybe the bay,
I'll go, my time is free.
I guess I'll wait to fish with grampa,
Till I can make it to his lake.
Maybe he'll find some secret spots,
I sure hope so, for my sake.

One Shining Moment
(vaneese thomas)
Tell me who, what, when,
Where did it start?
Tell me when, where
How did you get in my heart?
I feel your love washing over me
In waves of emotion so strong
I want to say while Ive got the chance
In the words of this song
Youre my one shining moment
You are all my dreams come true
Honey, youre my one shining moment
And if I never have another
Im glad that Ive known you
You fill up for me all the empty spaces
All the pain I ever felt, youve erased it
Is it any wonder? no way
That Im growing fonder every day
Theres a freedom that I never knew
And its all because of you, honey
Youre my one shining moment
You are all my dreams come true
Honey, youre my one shining moment
And if I never have another
Im glad that Ive known you
I wake up with you on my mind
You light up my day
There is nothing better I can find
Oh, my love, Im so proud
That I can say, hey
All my dreams wrapped
Into one under the sun, honey
Honey, youre my one shining moment
And if I never have another
Im glad that Ive known you
If I never have another
Im glad that Ive known you
Shining moment

Glad All Over
Aint no doubt about it,
This must be love.
One little kiss from you
And I feel glad all over.
Oo baby I dont [...]
Its silly,
But Im glad all over.
Yeah the goosepimples baby.
cos I feel so good
When you call me like you do.
And I feel glad all over.
Oo mercy, Im doggone [...]
And Im happy
And Im glad all over.
Your touch sewed me
Like an electric wire.
And make love
It dont take much luck
To see what Ive got.
But it shows, yes it shows.
Come on honey bonnie,
Give me one more time.
Everytime you do
Well I feel glad all over.
Oo baby, I dont [...]
Its silly
But Im glad all over.
Tried to tell you >how Im cooking inside
When were cheek to cheek.
My temperature is low,
Fever is high,
I cant speak,
Im too weak.
Well come on honey bonnie,
Give me one more time.
Everytime you do
Well I feel glad all over.
Oo baby, I dont [...]
Its silly
But Im glad all over.
Oo baby, I dont [...]
Its silly
But Im glad all over.
Oo baby, I dont [...]
Its silly
But Im glad all over.

On my way home, police car pulled me over.
After they left, I puttered out of gas.
Triple-a came, but my card was expired!
I had to walk home, and of course, it rained half the time.
I tried to get some shut-eye, then I was abducted!
They put cold things in my butt.
They sampled a bit of my d.n.a.
They left me on top of my sheets,
I dreamt I went potty, then woke up drenched in me.
This day sucked the hardest ever...
I woke up on the wrong side of the bed today.
A little bit less than nothing would go my way.
I got up to toss my soiled sheets,
The hallway was dark and I stubbed my big toe.
It was then that I sensed the irony (burning me),
Then I heard the voice say,
Come sail aboard s.s. nepenthe!
I suppose Im to blame for getting pulled over.
I guess Im the culprit for running out of gas.
Lets assume Im the guy who didnt pay his triple-a fee.
In actuality, I let the zetas probe me.
Yesterday was all my fault.
I let negativity get the better of me.
Thank goodness for the bathtubs and suds!
They temporarily set free this quandary

To Jim
I gaze upon my son once more,
With eyes and heart that tire,
As solemnly he stands before
The screen drawn round the fire;
With hands behind clasped hand in hand,
Now loosely and now fast—
Just as his fathers used to stand
For generations past.
A fair and slight and childish form,
And big brown thoughtful eyes—
God help him! for a life of storm
And stress before him lies:
A wanderer and a gipsy wild,
I’ve learnt the world and know,
For I was such another child—
Ah, many years ago!
But in those dreamy eyes of him
There is no hint of doubt—
I wish that you could tell me, Jim,
The things you dream about.
Dream on, my son, that all is true
And things not what they seem—
’Twill be a bitter day for you
When wakened from your dream.
You are a child of field and flood,
But with the gipsy strains
A strong Norwegian sailor’s blood
Is running through your veins.
Be true, and slander never stings,
Be straight, and all may frown—
You’ll have the strength to grapple things
That dragged your father down.
These lines I write with bitter tears
And failing heart and hand,
But you will read in after years,
And you will understand:
You’ll hear the slander of the crowd,
They’ll whisper tales of shame,
But days will come when you’ll be proud
To bear your father’s name.
But oh! beware of bitterness
When you are wronged, my lad—
I wish I had the faith in men
And women that I had!
’Tis better far (for I have felt
The sadness in my song)
To trust all men and still be wronged
Than to trust none and wrong.
Be generous and still do good
And banish while you live
The spectre of ingratitude
That haunts the ones who give.
But if the crisis comes at length
That your future might be marred,
Strike hard, my son, with all your strength!
For your own self’s sake, strike hard!

Cant Smile Without You
(c. arnold/d. martin/g. morrow)
Chorus:
You know I cant smile without you
I cant smile without you
I cant laugh and I cant sing
Im finding it hard to do anything
You see I feel sad when youre sad
I feel glad when youre glad
If you only knew what Im going through
I just cant smile without you
You came along just like a song
And brightened my day
Who would believe that youre part of a dream
Now it all seems light years away
You know I cant smile without you
I cant smile without you
I cant laugh and I cant sing
Im finding it hard to do anything
You see I feel sad when youre sad
I feel glad when youre glad
If you only knew what Im going through
I just cant smile
Some people say happiness takes
So very long to find
But Im finding it hard
Leaving your love behind me, so you see
I cant smile without you
I cant smile without you
I cant laugh and I cant sing
Im finding it hard to do anything
You see I feel glad when youre glad
I feel sad when youre sad
If you only knew what Im going through
I just cant smile without you

Stand-Up Comedians
Stand-up comedians so funny
Joke around to earn their money
They’re never funny sitting down
But when standing vertically upright
Their comedic humor is out of sight
Funny-ing as they act like stand-up clowns
They just can’t be funny or sassy
Sitting on their sorry assy’s
Perpendicular they invite loud guffaws
And with their joke-around renditions
In their stand-around positions
They welcome all appreciative applause
When they’re on stage it is behooved
To have all the sit-down chairs removed
So they can fill the halls with tons of laughter
So these stand-up fools so funny
Can earn rafts of funny money
The house is filled with laughs up to the rafter

(allen collins -- ronnie vanzant)
Its been so long since Ive been gone
Another day might be too long for me
Traveling around Ive had my fill
Of broken dreams and dirty deals
A concrete jungle surrounding me
Many nights Ive slept out in the streets
I paid my dues and I changed my style
Seen hard times. all over now
I want to come home. its been so long since Ive been away
And please, dont blame me cause Ive tried
Ill be coming home soon to your love to stay
I miss old friends that I once had
Times aint changed and Ill be glad when I go home
I dont know why the thought came to me
But why Im here I really cant see. and now...
I want to come home. its been so long since Ive been away
And please, dont blame me cause Ive tried
Ill be coming home soon to your love to stay
Coming home to stay
Coming home to your love, mama
Ive seen better days
I miss old friends that I once had
Times aint changed and Ill be glad when I go home
I dont know why the thought came to me
But why Im here I really cant see. and now...
I want to come home. its been so long since Ive been away
And please, dont blame me cause Ive tried

Coming home to your love, mama

Love Poem-10
Honey … honey … I have money.
Enjoy the life is my only destiny.
Come on enjoy the life with me
Come on enjoy the life with me
Honey … honey … I have money.
Let’s go for a long-drive.
There, where is no tribe.
You me and the money
Let’s enjoy oh my Honey.
I have money … I have Brothers
I have money … I have Sisters
I have money … I have a Family
I have money … I have friends
I have money … So no relation ends
I have money … So worshiped daily
Honey … Honey … I have Money.
Enjoy the life is my only destiny.
Ask your daddy, ask your mummy.
Say, I am having enough money.
They will make you free.
As if they find a money tree.
Let me tell you I am also a human.
I am rich but not a superman.
I too have feelings and can’t stay alone.
All relations are fake you are true.
With you I feel the feeling of coffee BRU.
If doubt, ask to my mussel, Blood and Bone.
Honey … Honey … You are my money.
You are my path and you are my destiny.

Hurts Just A Little
Perfect love you will never find
Say goodbye to what's left
Behind
Your release is way overdue
Let your tears be a friend to you
If it hurts just a little be glad of it
Don't get caught in the middle
Thinking 'bout it
If it hurts just a little be glad of it
If you try you will see, what will be
Hurts just a little
Silent eyes make your public life
And the lies can be cold as ice
How could you ever be so blind
Bet you never ever ever thought
That love could be so kind
If it hurts just a little be glad of it
Don't get caught in the middle
Thinking 'bout it
If it hurts just a little be glad of it
If you try you will see, what will be
Hurts just a little
C'mon baby, c'mon sugar, c'mon
Honey (darlin')
C'mon baby, c'mon sugar, c'mon
Honey (darlin')
C'mon baby, c'mon sugar, c'mon
Honey (darlin')
It's a crime of passion
That's just what it means to me
If it hurt just a little be glad of it
Don't get caught in the middle
Thinking 'bout it
If it hurts just a little be glad of it
If you try you will see
If it hurt just a little be glad of it
Don't get caught in the middle
Thinking 'bout it
If hurts just a little be glad of it
If you try you will see
C'mon baby, c'mon sugar, c'mon
Honey (darlin')
C'mon baby, c'mon sugar, c'mon
Honey (darlin')
C'mon baby, c'mon sugar, c'mon
Honey (darlin')...

Nobody Spoke (for Karen)
Nobody spoke to Lucy,
nobody spoke at all,
ain't no joke
nobody spoke.
nobody spoke
for five long years
ain't no joke
nobody spoke.
Lucy withdrew
without a clue
why nobody spoke,
nobody spoke
for five long years,
nobody spoke
Ain't no joke
nobody spoke!
Lucy went mad
she went crazy!
She screamed
she cried, she sobbed,
but nobody spoke,
for five long years
Ain't no joke
nobody spoke.
Many years later
she saw them,
those people she wanted
to be her friends.
but ain't no joke
nobody spoke,
nobody spoke
for five long years.
Ain't no joke
nobody spoke.
Lucy left a note
in daddy's drawer,
put on her very best dress.
Did her hair in a very fine way
and walked into the hall as a guest.
She walked up to the folk
that never spoke,
said hello in an ordinary way,
then she pulled out a gun
and opened fire.
Yes she shot all those folk
on that day.
Now they were silent
now they were still,
cos ain't no joke
that nobody spoke
and now
they never will.
