Robert Burns

Duncan Gray

1 Duncan Gray came here to woo,
2 Ha, ha, the wooin o't!
3 On blythe Yule night when we were fou,
4 Ha, ha, the wooin o't!
5 Maggie coost her head fu high,
6 Look'd asklent and unco skeigh,
7 Gart poor Duncan stand abeigh;
8 Ha, ha, the wooin o't!

9 Duncan fleech'd, and Duncan pray'd,
10 Ha, ha, the wooin o't!
11 Meg was deaf as Ailsa Craig,
12 Ha, ha, the wooin o't!
13 Duncan sigh'd baith out and in,
14 Grat his een baith bleer't and blin',
15 Spak o' lowpin owre a linn;
16 Ha, ha, the wooin o't!

17 Time and chance are but a tide,
18 Ha, ha, the wooin o't!
19 Slighted love is sair to bide,
20 Ha, ha, the wooin o't!
21 'Shall I, like a fool,' quoth he,
22 'For a haughty hizzie die?
23 She may gae to--France for me!'--
24 Ha, ha, the wooin o't!

25 How it comes let doctors tell,
26 Ha, ha, the wooin o't!
27 Meg grew sick as he grew hale,
28 Ha, ha, the wooin o't!
29 Something in her bosom wrings,
30 For relief a sigh she brings;
31 And O! her een, they spak sic things
32 Ha, ha, the wooin o't!

33 Duncan was a lad o' grace,
34 Ha, ha, the wooin o't!
35 Maggie's was a piteous case,
36 Ha, ha, the wooin o't!
37 Duncan could na be her death,
38 Swelling pity smoor'd his wrath;
39 Now they're crouse and cantie baith;
40 Ha, ha, the wooin o't!

Crumbs Off The Table

(sherrie payne / ronald dunbar / edith wayne)
Ooh, hoo
Get up in the morning
bout a quarter to nine
Get home in the evenin
Too tired to make time
Give me the lovin
Ive been waiting for all day
Youre always a little too tired
To ever look my way
You got me hungry for your love
But you, you aint able
All you want to give me
Is the crumbs off the table
What you been doin?
Who you been wooin?
Tell me, tell me who you been doin?
I ache inside
With a lovin desire
But youre too tired, baby
To light my fire
I work in this house all day
And I get tired too
There aint a day goes by
I aint willing to make love to you
Im hungry for your love
But you, you aint able
All you want to give me
Is the crumbs off the table, ah
What you been doin?
Who you been wooin?
Tell me, tell me, tell me who you been doin?
Hey, sometimes in the middle of the day
I get lovin you on my mind
But as soon as you get home
You read the paper
Aint got the time
What you been doin?
Who you been wooin?
Tell me, tell me, who you been doin?
What you been doin?
Who you been wooin?
Tell me, tell me, tell me who you been doin?
I said Im hungry for your lovin
But you, you aint able
All you want to give me is the crumbs off the table
Hungry for your love
But you

Once We Met

Once we met in a greasy spoon
A television hung from the ceiling
And drained its effusive ruin.

Once we met in a buskers croon
Bus stop hopefuls dead by tedium
Ignored his heart wrenching doin'.

Once we met in a naive swoon
Youthful dumb and thrilling
Pashed day an' all night through an'...

Once we met in an old saloon
Seats sticky with life's lust lived
And sipped all revved and brewin'.

Once we met in a cow herd mooin'
Gentle giants unsuspecting
From where cruel protien's hewn.

Once we met in a pool full moon
Slow dancing lips embraced
Hands 'n' souls each threw 'n.

Once we met in a time too soon
As always is, so was done full
And a harvest o' cherished two 'n'...

Once more we met in an afternoon
Of light and shadows wooin',
And petal soft and bouquet sweet
A kiss to the undoin'.

My Ain Bonnie Lass O' The Glen.

Ae blink o' the bonnie new mune,
Ay tinted as sune as she's seen,
Wad licht me to Meg frae the toun,
Tho' mony the brae-side between:
Ae fuff o' the saftest o' win's,
As wilyart it kisses the thorn,
Wad blaw me o'er knaggies an' linns--
To Meg by the side o' the burn!

My daddie's a laird wi' a ha';
My mither had kin at the court;
I maunna gang wooin' ava'--
Or any sic frolicsome sport.
Gin I'd wed--there's a winnock kept bye;
Wi' bodies an' gear i' her loof--
Gin ony tak her an' her kye,
Hell glunsh at himsel' for a coof!

My daddie's na doylt, tho' he's auld,
The winnock is pawkie an' gleg;
When the lammies are pit i' the fauld,
They're fear'd that I'm aff to my Meg.
My mither sits spinnin'--ae blink
O' a smile in her kind, bonnie 'ee;
She's minded o' mony a link
She, stowlins, took o'er the lea

To meet wi' my daddie himsel'
Tentie jinkin' by lea an' by shaw;
She fu's up his pipe then hersel',
So I may steal cannie awa'.
O leeze me o' gowany swaird,
An' the blink o' the bonnie new mune!
An' the cowt stown out o' the yaird
That trots like a burnie in June!

My Meg she is waitin' abeigh--
Ilk spunkie that flits through the fen
Wad jealously lead me astray
Frae my ain bonnie lass o' the glen!
My forbears may groan i' the mools,
My daddie look dour an' din;
Wee Love is the callant wha rules,
An' my Meg is the wifie I'll win!

The Only Monk Keyed

The monk...
He has the key!
Does that make him,
The only monk keyed who sees?

Not One to Produce Something Because of Its Ease

I perceive writing as a craft.
I approach it that way.
I am not 'all knowing'...
But I do desire to be the best at what I do.
If what I share doesn't mean anything to me...
Why would I go through the trouble of composing it to share?
I am in a relationship.
And I want it to be a successful one.
It takes work.
And I am not one to produce something because of its ease.
Everything I do has meaning and purpose.
There is something about taking one's life seriously,
That ultimately makes the difference.
I would think.
