You Spend Always For Company
it is always the case
this money that you spend to lavish your friends
with anything that you can think of just to keep
company alive: a buffet yesterday
a dinner by the beach
pizza at the yellow cab
and some home made ice cream and some light beer
some like it better with tomato cream soup
and others ask for a can of coke
one orders a bottle of mineral water
and then a nice conversation is shared
some stories pass from one mouth to another
about a friend whose life is messy
about a wife who can no longer endure an unhappy marriage
with a violent husband to boot
making her a punching bag and the latest decision
to petition for an annulment of marriage
some discover about a two friends finally having a gay affair
and the talks become so intriguing
you listen, the hours pass, the nights get darker, the music gets louder
you just listen, you look at each face facing you
without any significance
your mind travels far away from them
you get a scoop of vanilla ice cream
and they ask about you
and you tell them that the ice cream is so good.
it is not so sweet. just enough to tickle your tongue.
then one gets so sleepy, yawns and you say that it is such a
very romantic night.
you foot the bill. everyone is happy with you.
a pleasant company.
good night, they say, and again you are left alone
walking at dawn, and then the lights are slowly turned off.
the beach gets so white, with the coming of the morning sun.
some shadows start to vanish. another set of walkers
and blank faces and you say: the night is over.
good morning boracay!

Beating The Heat With Sweet Willows Creamery Ice Cream At The Fairie Festival For Me And My Friends
At the Fairie Festival
The sun beats down on many of us
from above
It's enjoying it's time in the sky of blue
As the minutes go by
The humidity of this day continues to
ratchet up
It may be the beginning of May
But it surely feels like Summer
The nature spirits that I'm friend with
We look for some way to cool off
My friends being a fairy, water nymph,
and goddess
Walking around the Fairie Festival
Water seems to be flying off the shelves
But ice cream from Sweet Willows Creamery
certainly isn't
And so, feeling like we are and considering
the situation
We make the best decision for ourselves
We stand in line for ice cream
Ice cream from Sweet Willows Creamery
We talk with each other and deal with the heat
and humidity the best we can
For the time being right now
Soon it's our turn
And we order and pay for 4 ice cream cones
I have the Fairy Dust Cotton Candy
My friend, the water nymph has Fairy Berry Banana
Strawberry Swirl
My friend, the fairy has Maraschino Cherry mixed with
Tollhouse Cookie Dough
My friend, the goddess has Strawfairy Toadstool
We enjoy our ice cream cones
Loving the flavors we picked
And we're sure that many others who'll get ice cream
will get a similar kick
As my friends and I walk along
Enjoying our ice cream cones
The Fairie Festival commences and continues on

I have been lying under a pillow of dreams
And feeling moments of swimming in cream
This is the start of the end, goodbye
Hours of facing my life, have damned
You are a good friend
Friendly as goood friends can be
Your father wants you to live on his knee
This is the start of the end, climb by me
Red sides and blue sides within, remind me
I have been lying under a pillow of dreams
And feeling moments of swimming in cream
This is the start of the end, goodbye
Hours of facing my life, have damned.

Self-centered....
the blond
has a hand that carries a cone of
vanilla ice cream
it is summer
he looks at the sea
and lets his ice cream melt
not licking it yet
the sea is so blue
a woman looks at his
well chiseled body his
butterfly back
his abs and
strong arms
the ice cream melts
the man looks at the sand
and estimates the size
of his shadow
the sand is so white
the woman with her long black hair
in a two piece
the main attraction of this poem
backs out
and buys her own cone of
vanilla ice cream
and she licks it until the ice cream
is consumed
the man goes to the sea and makes
his needed dive
indeed the sea is so blue
and it is a sad summer....

Miss A La Cream
Waiting is worth the while
Miss A La cream, a la cream
The lady of magnificent style
The woman of many a mans dream
A natural born striker
Every man in turn likes her
The queue up in flashy little cars
It doesn’t get them really any far
Miss A La cream, a la cream
The lady of posh self-esteem
At day, she’s in the sauna wrapped in towels
At day she’s at the hairdressers draped in jewels
At night, she can be found at many a brothel
But don’t you ever ask, what is a vowel?
But don’t you ever attempt to make her to spell
Natural yellow, gold and blonde
With an exquisite scent from beyond
A La cream, a la cream
She can pander a whole football team
Up in the mountains or down by the streams
When she walks the street with her heels
Mouths open, hearts relentlessly dream
Notwithstanding her heart is stronger than steel
That’s why she is Miss A la cream, A la cream

Togetherness Is Gone
My wife,
Stop cleaning the house
Please come here
To accompany me
My husband,
The house is dirty
We aren't able to pay the maid
You've already retired
My wife,
Don't cook
It's a holiday
Let us eat outside the home
My husband,
Don't eat outdoors
We need efficient
You've already retired
My wife,
Let's keep me company
Why the rush to sleep
It's still early
My husband,
I have to get up early
To clean the house
And prepare breakfast
My wife,
I have to go this morning
My friends were waiting
Long we don't meet
My husband,
Be careful on the road
Greetings for your friends
But, why not breakfast?
My wife,
You have fallen asleep last night
I see you sleeping soundly all
I don't have the heart to wake you
My husband,
I'm sorry
I don't welcome you home
But, why should sleep on the sofa?
My wife,
I have to go again
I have social activities
With my old friends
My husband,
Don't forget dinner at home
You look very dapper
Although not wear perfume
My wife,
sorry, we were very busy
I had dinner with friends
Happy dinner, dear
My husband,
I woke up too early
But you're not at home
Where are you?
My wife,
I came home at midnight
I have to go early in the morning
I don't have the heart to wake you
My husband,
I just finished washing clothes
I've found the clothes that you wear today
But, why the smell of perfume?

What I Feel Today
what i feel today is this
i am scooping some ice cream for you
five scoops of vanilla flavored
ice cream with marshmallow toppings
i hand them to you
with a very sweet smile
and you start licking and munching
marshmallows
inside my mind
is this pain inside my heart
is my aching tooth
but i am not telling you
or anybody
i am a very considerate man
trying always to please you

Foggy Mountain Top
Im standing by my window
And Im waiting on the summer rain
And Im standing by my window
And Im waiting on the summer rain
Well, I felt this way before and
Im gonna feel this way again
Ive been listening to this music
Ever since the age of three
Ive been listening to this music
Ever since the age of three
I want you to play me a t for texas
Or play me a t for tennessee
I want a plain glass of water
Vanilla ice cream with a cherry on top, thats what I want
I want a plain glass of water
Uh, huh, vanilla ice cream with a cherry on top, mm, hm, hm, hm,
Take a walk with me, baby
Up the foggy mountain top, watch it!
Im going up on highway one
Said you know I dig it the most
Im going up on highway one
Eh, you know I dig it the most
Im gonna sing this song
All along the water coast
I want a plain glass of water
Ice cream with a cherry on top, thats the way I like it, ah!
I want a plain glass of water,
Vanilla ice cream with a cherry on top
Walk with me, baby
Up the foggy mountain top, whats that?
Oh, come along with me, oh!
On the foggy mountain top
Keep on walking, keep on walking, baby
On the foggy mountain top
Keep walking with me baby
Up the foggy mountain top

Sakei
yasai ramen
hot and fuming to the
nose
tongue is
familiar to the
taste of
Japanese
noodles and you
recall same old faces
that make you smile
facing the
passing crowd of
people
in the mall
the banana split
comes later
beside
vanilla ice cream
you chin is
resting upon your
fist
everything is
tolerable here
until
the toy train comes
towed by a
plump white kid
whose hands are
tightly held by
a strict grandmother
what we see
sometimes turns sour
then bitter
at first glance
everything is sweet and
we think
that sweet is forever
and desirable
smooth relationships
nothing messy
but it is never that way
mind you

Once upon a summer's day......
Sweet voices, sound like little bells
as children frolic on the dells
picking yellow buttercups
and four leaf clovers for good luck.
With chubby, tiny hands they forage,
in the grassy lush green woods
ferreting out treasures
within the sunlit lands.
A melody of summer sounds
hums peacefully and sweet.
Blackberries and fruits are plenty
for a happy tea time treat.
Dogs are romping in the meadows,
fetching sticks and licking hands
giving such delightful pleasures
now, here comes the ice cream van.
Chocolate lollies, ice cream cornets,
ice cold drinks are what they need,
begging mother for some silver
to go buy a snack to eat.
Dodging wasps that swarm about them,
waiting for the chance to sting,
pretty butterflies abounding,
now the birdies start to sing.
Dusk is coming, sun is setting,
little legs are tired now,
soon the homeward track they're treading,
craving for a comfy bed.
Bath time, bed time, night time stories
of the daytime fun they've had.
Sleepy heads on plumped up pillows,
say goodnight to mum and dad.

What Makes Bri 'Feel Good'....[Personal]
I'll start with what makes me feel good, this windy, rainy night:
A recently showered and shampooed body; a 'clean shave'; electric light;
A moderately heated room; making rhymes; ....a sated appetite;
A kind and caring wife who 'forgives' me; underwear that's not too tight;
Being retired from post office and being paid for staying home;
Having good enough health; still having hair to brush or comb;
Getting under down comforter on our marriage mattress of foam;
Seeing lots of kinds of birds when outdoors i do roam;
Trimming annoying branches over sidewalks where i walk;
Keeping in touch with special friends via email or phone talk;
Finishing home projects using nails, shovel, or caulk;
Seeing 'attractive' women...though at them i don't gawk;
Giving a helpful answer when someone asks directions;
The yummy taste in my mouth...when i eat confections;
Deciding who to vote for in the upcoming elections;
Not needing, at age 63, to maintain 'too many erections';
Eating ice cream (neopolitan is especially good) :
Donating blood for others as often as i could;
And listening with aki to an owl hooting from a darkened woods.

In the Secular Night
In the secular night you wander around
alone in your house. It's two-thirty.
Everyone has deserted you,
or this is your story;
you remember it from being sixteen,
when the others were out somewhere, having a good time,
or so you suspected,
and you had to baby-sit.
You took a large scoop of vanilla ice-cream
and filled up the glass with grapejuice
and ginger ale, and put on Glenn Miller
with his big-band sound,
and lit a cigarette and blew the smoke up the chimney,
and cried for a while because you were not dancing,
and then danced, by yourself, your mouth circled with purple.
Now, forty years later, things have changed,
and it's baby lima beans.
It's necessary to reserve a secret vice.
This is what comes from forgetting to eat
at the stated mealtimes. You simmer them carefully,
drain, add cream and pepper,
and amble up and down the stairs,
scooping them up with your fingers right out of the bowl,
talking to yourself out loud.
You'd be surprised if you got an answer,
but that part will come later.
There is so much silence between the words,
you say. You say, The sensed absence
of God and the sensed presence
amount to much the same thing,
only in reverse.
You say, I have too much white clothing.
You start to hum.
Several hundred years ago
this could have been mysticism
or heresy. It isn't now.
Outside there are sirens.
Someone's been run over.
The century grinds on.

Dr. Sun
I don't want to be alone on the beach, no
Give me dr. sun, he's my man
I don't want to be alone on the beach, no
Angel of the night, give him to me
I believe in to let a little sunshine in my life
I believe in him and me
My vacation is gonna be a pleasant memory
I will have him everyday
I'm gonna do what's good for me
I'm gonna meet dr. sun
Liasson dangereux for me
I share it with the cream of girls
Who's the worst
In seeking dr.
I can never live without him, i can't stand it
I can never live without it, i can't stand it
I can never live without him, i can't stand it
I can never be without it, i can't stand it
Guess who
It's the famous dr. sun
I don't want to be alone on the beach, no
Give me dr. sun, he's my man
I don't want to be alone on the beach, no
Angel of the night, give him to me

Bananas And Cream
(Kinky Friedman)
Well, a long time ago in old Tokyo
By the softly flowing stream
I left her there with the stars in her hair
On the other side of a dream.
Well, I traveled through with a heart full of blue
Never quite making my way
Till I come upon a strawberry blonde
Living in Pittsburgh, P.A.
Ah, bananas and rice they used to be nice
On the other side of a dream.
Oh, bananas and rice they used to be nice
But now it's bananas an cream.
I stood hypnotized, I stared in her eyes,
She smiled and I suddenly knew
If I made her my bride then the other side
0f my dream would finally come true.
Ah, bananas and rice they used to be nice
On the other side of a dream.
Oh, oh, bananas and rice they used to be nice

What A Beautiful Day
You are like my sunshine
What a beautiful day
We went to the beach
We saw seashell running to the water
My heart is beating minute a mile
My love is growing for you each day
You are like my hero
You make my day turn upside down
It was so cold; I saw polar bears wearing jackets
I have you there to warm me up and cozy me in your arm
I am so hungry I could eat a horse
We went to get some ice cream that some guy was selling
It was nice and windy day
We was walking on beach
Just talking, smile and having a good time
This day couldn't get any better
We was staring at beautiful blue sky spinning
I couldn't get enough of you being here with me
Wave is breezing and moving fast
It was a beautiful day
My love for you is so magical and beautiful
If it wasn't for you I couldn't be who I am
I listen to my heart and I choose you
I'm lucky to have you as my boyfriend

Kissing Carol Ann
Back in 1957
kissing Carol Ann
behind the barn
in the middle of
a windswept field
of Goldenrod
with a sudden deer
watching was
something special,
let me tell you.
Back then, bobby sox
and big barrettes
and ponytails
were everywhere.
Like many farmers,
Carol Ann's father
had a console radio
in the living room,
and every Saturday night
the family would gather 'round
with bowls of ice cream
and listen to the Grand Ole Opry.
It was beamed 'all the way'
from Nashville I was told
more than once since
I was from Chicago
and sometimes wore a tie
so how could I know.
On my first visit,
I asked Carol Ann
if the Grand Ole Opry was
the Mormon Tabernacle Choir
of country music and she said
not to say that to her father.
She suggested I just tap
my foot to the music
and let him watch me.
Otherwise I'd best be
quiet and say 'Yup, '
'Nope' or 'Maybe'
if asked any questions
which she didn't think
would happen.
No need to say
much more, she said,
and after a few visits,
I understood why.
Over time, I learned
to tap my foot pretty good
to the music because
when I'd come to visit,
her father would insist
I have a bowl of ice cream
with the family.
I liked the ice cream
but not so much
the Grand Ole Opry.
I'd been weaned
on Sinatra in the city.
Big difference,
let me tell you.
But back in 1957
kissing Carol Ann
behind the barn
was something special
since we couldn't do
much more until
I found employment.
Only then, her father said,
could we get married.
I found no jobs
in town, however,
for a bespectacled man
with degrees in English.
Still, I always found
the weekend drives
from Chicago worth
the gas my Rambler drank
because kissing Carol Ann
brought a bit of heaven
down behind that barn,
especially on summer nights
when fireflies were
the only stars we saw
when our eyes
popped open.
It was like
the Fourth of July
with tiny sparklers
twinkling everywhere.
Now,55 years later,
Carol Ann sometimes mentions
fireflies at dusk as we
dance behind the cows
to coax them into the barn
for the night.
I'm still not too good
with cows despite
my John Deere cap,
plaid shirt and overalls
which proves, she says,
that all that kissing
behind the barn in 1957
took the boy out of the city
but not the city out of the boy.
'Hee Haw' is all I ever
say in response because
I know why I'm there.
It's to keep tapping
the cows on the rump
till we get them
back in the barn
so we can go back
in the house
and start with
a kiss and later on
come back downstairs
for two big bowls
of ice cream.

Jenny's Husband
He has no taste for alcohol not even a light beer
And she says that he should be named the husband of the year
He changes the baby's nappy and cooks the evening tea
And she feels very happy to have one good as he.
he's never once been on the dole he gives her all his pay
And he's the greatest worker at least that's what she say
The bank account is in her name and Jenny runs the show
And for women's liberation she's struck a mighty blow.
She talks of Billy 'two doors down' his conduct a disgrace
And if she were married to him she would put him in his place
He spends his night down at the pub and comes home after ten
She cannot understand how women tolerate such men.
But if Billy were her husband she would not have her own way
And he'd go to the pub at night and not give her all his pay
And their marriage would not last too long for lack of harmony
But her George is very different as he bends quite easily.
She boast about her husband George he walks the narrow line
And he doesn't have any vices which seems to suit her fine
And alcohol doesn't pass his lips not even a light beer
And she at least has proclaimed him the husband of the year

Hollywood Nights
Words and music by bob seger
She stood there bright as the sun on that california coast
He was a midwestern boy on his own
She looked at him with those soft eyes,
So innocent and blue
He knew right then he was too far from home he was too far from home
She took his hand and she led him along that golden beach
They watched the waves tumble over the sand
They drove for miles and miles
Up those twisting turning roads
Higher and higher and higher they climbed
And those hollywood nights
In those hollywood hills
She was looking so right
In her diamonds and frills
All those big city nights
In those high rolling hills
Above all the lights
She had all of the skills
Hed headed west cause he felt that a change
Would do him good
See some old friends, good for the soul
She had been born with a face that would her
Get her way
He saw that face and he lost all control
He had lost all control
Night after night, day after day, it went on and on
Then came that morning he woke up alone
He spent all night staring down at the lights of la
Wondering if he could ever go home
And those hollywood nights
In those hollywood hills
It was looking so right
It was giving him chills
In those big city nights
In those high rolling hills
Above all the lights
With a passion that kills
In those hollywood nights
In those hollywood hills
She was looking so right
In her diamonds and frills
All those big city nights
In those high rolling hills
Above all the lights
She had all of the skills
