When We Have Nothing....
as there are too many
tiny little things
dripping from my hands
like sands,
like time seemingly
without end like a road
heading somewhere
and we are having no
gasoline
where can appreciation lie?
where can worship be found?
it is only when there is less
when time runs out
when there is no more food
and space is cut into pieces
that we learn,
and learn that well enough.

My Father's Hands
My Father's Hands
As I look upon my father's hands
now a spotted, wrinkled road map,
that time, sun and sweat,
have hardened them to a painted tortoise shell.
Those, the same hands that I once feared,
and yet at the same time so gentle
that they held my tiny hand deep within.
I feared nothing as if he was the grace of God.

Ive wandered around with nothing more than time on my hands
I was lost in the night with no sight of you
And at times it was so blue and lonely
Heading for the light
Been close to the edge, hanging by my fingernails
Ive rolled and Ive tumbled through the roses and the thorns
And I couldnt see the sign that warned me, im
Heading for the light
Ooh - I didnt see that big black cloud hanging over me
And when the rain came down I was nearly drowned
I didnt know the mess I was in
My shoes are wearing out from walking down this same highway

I once met a girl with the life in her hands
And we lay together on the summerday sands.
I gave her my raincoat and told her, ''lady, be good!
And we made truth together, where no one else would.
I smiled through her fingers and ran the dust through her hands ---
The hour-glass of reason on the summerday sands.
We sat as the sea caught fire.
Waited as the flames grew higher
In her eyes.
We watched the eagle born ---

At Night When The World Is Sleeping
at night when the world is sleeping
i have learned to sing inside the chamber of my heart
i have become this nightingale
a black nightingale singing the songs of the full moon
at night i have become this bleeding heart
blood dripping on the floor of the house
at night i beg the moon to listen
