Uncle John

Years ago you climbed the mango tree
On an alibi to see both of them

They talked in the sala of your house
And went inside your room
After they kissed
You did not wait for reason
Before they
Can undress
You shot him dead
You spared her
Your wife because you loved her

15 years in prison
You were released to find yourself

In this bigger prison
Without love

All that you can find in her
And her children are barbed wires

Uncle John, tell me
Which do you prefer now?

Born In A Prison

Were born in a prison, raised in a prison,
Sent to a prison called school.
We cry in a prison, we love in a prison,
We dream in a prison like fools.
Wood becomes a flute when its loved,
Reach for yourself and your battered mates.
Mirror becomes a razor when its broken,
Look in the mirror and see your shattered fate.
We live with no reason, kicked round for no reason,
Thrown out without reason like tools.
We work in a prison and hate in a prison,
And die in a prison as a rule.
Wood becomes a flute when its loved,
Reach for yourself and your battered mates.
Mirror becomes a razor when its broken,
Look in the mirror and see your shattered fate.
We live in a prison mong judges and wardens
And wait for no reason for you.
We laugh in a prison, go through all four seasons,
And die with no vision of truth.
Wood becomes a flute when its loved,
Reach for yourself and your battered mates.
Mirror becomes a razor when its broken,
Look in the mirror and see your shattered fate.
Born in a prison!

Locked Inside Your Prison

Your love is like a prison wall
And its getting higher
I get so far and then I fall
I cant get through the wire
Oh oh oh Im locked inside your prison
Oh oh oh Im locked inside your prison
Its as though Im doing time
And you wont free me
Let the punishment befit the crime
And say you need me
Oh oh oh Im locked inside your prison
Oh oh oh Im locked inside your prison
Save me save me cant you see Im innocent
Turn the key that will set me free
Please let it end oh let it end
Oh oh oh Im locked inside your prison
Oh oh oh Im locked inside your prison
Save me save me cant you see Im innocent
Turn the key that will set me free
Please let it end wont you let it end
Ill dig a tunnel to your heart
Let me remind you
Even gonna tear the walls apart
Until I find you
Oh oh oh Im locked inside your prison
Oh oh oh Im locked inside your prison

Somebody To Love

Can anybody find me
Somebody to love?
Each morning I get up I die a little
Cant barely stand on my feet
Take a look in the mirror and cry
Lord, what youre doing to me
I have spent all my years in believing you
But I just cant get no relief, lord
Somebody, somebody
Can anybody find me someone to love
I work hard everyday of my life
I work till I ache my bones
At the end I take home my
Hard earned pay all of my own
I get down on my knees and I start to pray
til the tears run down from my eyes, lord
Somebody, somebody
Can anybody find me somebody to love
Everyday I try and I try
But everybody want to put me down
They say Im goin crazy
They say I got a lot of water in my brain
Got no common sense
I got nobody to believe
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Ooh, somebody
Somebody can anybody find me
Somebody to love
Got no feel, I got no rhythm
I just keep losing my beat
Im ok, Im alright
Aint gonna face no defeat
I just got to get out of this prison cell
One day Im gonna be free, lord
Find me somebody to love
Find me somebody to love
Find me somebody to love
Find me somebody to love
Find me somebody to love
Find me somebody to love
Find me somebody to love
Find me somebody to love
Find me somebody to love
Somebody, somebody, somebody, somebody
Somebody find me somebody
Find me somebody to love
Can anybody find me

Alibi Factory

You did it, cause you want it
Alibi, alibi
And you took it, cause you need it
Alibi, alibi
Chorus:
But if Ive done something wrong
Theres no ifs and buts
cause I love you just as much
As I hate your guts
Alibi, alibi, alibi
You dont need anybody
Alibi, alibi
But you are the only one who knows this
Alibi, alibi
You deserve it, cause youre special
Alibi, alibi
Maybe jesus wants you for a sunbeam
Alibi, alibi
Chorus
Bridge:
Sometimes Im so forgiving ohhhh oh
Everything seems bad to me
But I cant go on living
With this
Alibi, alibi, alibi, alibi
Insane, but Im mundane
Alibi, alibi
You wanted to be famous
Alibi alibi
Sorry that your mummy doesnt love you
Alibi, alibi
Stop me, if youve heard this
Alibi, alibi

Finally You Always Find Yourself Alone

it is a fact of your life

you marry
and have children
and grandchildren

and years pass by
leaving you
with wrinkles and
arthritis
bones that crack
and a brain that
does not remember
recent things
anymore

finally you find yourself alone
in your room
for they too shall find life
of their own

even your wife
has to struggle with her thoughts

and then you begin
to find
the company of God
as something
missing
long been missing

your hands are empty
your heart so hollow

you find yourself back to
where you once began

a cry and then
the silence and the sigh

now,
back to the entrance

and then
the most awaited
exit door

light slipping on the
holes of the wall inside
a dark room

ah, you are in a monologue
the air listens
like a vacuum inside a glass

less dramatic
but should be with
more glory, perhaps...

SONG On: Animal Love

There lived a girl called Lovina,
Whose animal-love was great;
Tall, she was and so much lean, ah!
She sang songs for a treat.

She had a sister, with whom she fought,
Right from her child-hood days!
Both were aged, a year’s diff’rence;
And so they fight-her mother says.

She did her home-work, in a short time,
Dreamt while her mother cooks!
In argument, she was so good,
And loved to read animal-books.

Once there fell down, a small Squirrel,
As she stood ‘neath a Mango-tree;
She laid it gently in a box,
The Squirrel-babe was no more free!

She fed the Squirrel, fruit and nut,
And lullabied it to a sleep;
The baby Squirrel loved her much,
Their friendship grew so deep.

She sang to it and fondled it,
And talked to it whenever free;
She kept it cosy, neat and clean;
Her holidays, went off in glee!

One day, the Squirrel fell so ill;
Perhaps, it thought of its mother!
So, you must set the Squirrel free;
Her doctor-uncle advised her.

With Squirrel ill, her heart turned sad,
Poor Lovina, could not sleep well;
For long, she kept awake and cried;
Was the Squirrel ill ‘cause it fell?

The poor girl prayed, all night and day;
She prayed to God to make it well;
And wished, she could become a fay!
Her life now seemed to look like hell!

She kissed her Squirrel, one more time;
Her Uncle let it up a tree;
The Squirrel squeaked and wagged its tail;
And jumped with joy, away, afree!
Lovina too now wept with joy;
Her pet-Squirrel seemed quite alright!
Her heart leapt like the Squirrel, Boy!
Her Uncle’s words were quite correct.

But Lovina missed her Squirrel;
She visited the Mango-tree;
She hopes to meet her pet some day,
Her friend, never turned up to see!

Ye love your God through animals!
Ye love thy sister first, then else;
Man hath a soul, animals don’t,
“Love thy neighbour, ”the Poet tells!

specially dedicated to my neice Rubina, an animal-lover herself, a true incident in her life!

No Exit

Journeying from the beginning
(of which there is no beginning) ,
travelling for millions of years
(which cannot be measured in millions or years) ,
I have come,
and go on.
No stopping.
Just the onward movement
into the illimitable.
For ever.

No need to blame the wicked,
their shadows are at their heels.
No need to fear for the good,
haloes of light enclose them in splendour.
No need to talk of escape.
Escape from this prison
is a doorway into the prison yard
and back again.

This prison is moving
and all-encompassing.
There is nothing outside it
to be escaped into.
There is no escape from.
There is only stopping.
Where there is stopping, how can there be movement?
If there is no movement, how could there be a prison?

The boys will face 5 to 99 years in prison!

Before

The telephone's not answered
So many times you'll call
For many different reasons
So many tears will fall before

You find your love before
It comes knocking at your door
Before you know for sure
This is what you were waiting for

So many fears will haunt you
Deny them or regret
Some men will make you want to
And you will not forget before

You find your love before
It comes knocking at your door
Before you know for sure
This is what you were waiting for

There's a story of a man who loved too much
He ended up inside a prison cell
You've got to want to give to get it
Or you could land up in the same suspicious hell
It's happened before (Before Before Before)
It's happened before (Before Before)

Coincidence and patience
Will mend this fatal flaw
Though it may seem a long wait
Others have been here before

You find your love before
It comes knocking at your door
Before you know for sure
This is what you were waiting for

One day

Smoking Gun

The old perverbial smoking gun
as they say
just for fun
I shot it one day

shot it into a tree
the sap began to seep
down on my knee
I began to weep

I thought I killed it dead
being a child
something in my head
just went wild

I'm glad it was a tree
and not a person
or I would forever be
in a prison

the tree never died
its alive today
I still cried
and put my gun away

Shot Of Love

I need a shot of love, I need a shot of love.
Dont need a shot of heroin to kill my disease,
Dont need a shot of turpentine, only bring me to my knees,
Dont need a shot of codeine to help me to repent,
Dont need a shot of whiskey, help me be president.
I need a shot of love, I need a shot of love.
Doctor, can you hear me? I need some medicaid.
I seen the kingdoms of the world and its makin me feel afraid.
What I got aint painful, its just bound to kill me dead
Like the men that followed jesus when they put a price upon his head.
I need a shot of love, I need a shot of love.
I dont need no alibi when Im spending time with you.
Ive heard all of them rumors and you have heard em too.
Dont show me no picture show or give me no book to read,
It dont satisfy the hurt inside nor the habit that it feeds.
I need a shot of love, I need a shot of love.
Why would I want to take your life?
Youve only murdered my father, raped his wife,
Tattooed my babies with a poison pen,
Mocked my god, humiliated my friends.
I need a shot of love, I need a shot of love.
Dont wanna be with nobody tonight veronica not around nowhere,
Mavis just aint right.
Theres a man that hates me and hes swift, smooth and near,
Am I supposed to set back and wait until hes here?
I need a shot of love, I need a shot of love.
What makes the wind wanna blow tonight?
Dont even feel like crossing the street and my car aint actin right.
Called home, everybody seemed to have moved away.
My conscience is beginning to bother me today.
I need a shot of love, I need a shot of love.
I need a shot of love, I need a shot of love.
If youre a doctor, I need a shot of love.

Stuck In A House (old poem revisited)

Stuck in a house thinking of a girl... my house
Wondering if one day she'd be my spouse
No matter what I do I can't douse
This fire in me, it burns for you
I hope you share it too

O my dear
I wish you were here
This time I have no fear
Not this time
Not this time I'm one who's fine
But I; 'm stuck behind this wall
It's like I'm not here at all

But this prison away from you... my prison
It's just a house right?
Then why isn't there comfort on this cold night...
Sure it's my house, but then why is it so lonely
Sure it's just a house but it's my prison and I'm waiting for you only

A 'Bad' Mother Grieves

I realise my only hope
Is to find some kind of way to cope
With the guilt that hounds me from within,
But I'm paralysed by a sense of sin.
When I was younger things were good,
I loved my children like I should,
I read them stories when they went to bed,
They loved me too (that's what they said) .
The years have passed and I'm getting old;
It's funny how your heart grows cold
'Cos now I don't care one little bit
About the family and that sh*t
Who married me and destroyed my life
By persuading me to be his wife.
He made me feel like I didn't exist
Although he squeezed me when we kissed,
He shattered every innocent dream
And when I wake at night I scream.
There's no-one now who can explain
Why the nightmares come again and again,
They'll never understand my pain
And my awful fear of going insane.

Stone Walls

Written by - Jim Croce
It's been too many years inside this prison
Too many years just for one little fight
He got what was comin'
And I think I served enough time
I'm goin' home tonight
That stone looks mighty cold
And the guard that walks that wall
Is just waitin' to get a convict in his sights
But if I can clear the top
You can bet I'll never stop
Cause I'm goin' home tonight
Chorus:
Because stone walls do a prison
Make iron bars a cage
Any man who says they don't
Never been inside
Cause in time the bars get closer
And at night the walls grow tighter
Do you feel like there's a shackle around your mind?
Now those guards are on my tail
I can hear those sirens wail
But I know that I'll get away and that I'll be alright
Cause I'd rather live on the run
Stand free in the morning sun
Then to spend another lonely prison night
Chorus

Seasons Of The Heart

This song appears on nine albums, and was first released on the seasons of the heart album, and has also been released on the greatest hits vol 3, favourites, a portrait, the very best of john d
(double cd), country classics, the country roads collection and the rocky mountain collection albums. a new studio version has been released on the love again album.
Of course we have our differences
You shouldnt be surprised
Its as natural as changes
In the seasons and the skies
Sometimes we grow together
Sometimes we drift apart
A wiser man than I might know
The seasons of the heart
And Im walking here beside you
In the early evening chill
A thing weve always loved to do
I know we always will
We have so much in common
So many things we share
That I cant believe my heart
When it implies that youre not there
Love is why I came here in the first place
Love is now the reason I must go
Love is all I ever hoped to find here
Love is still the only dream I know
So I dont know how to tell you
Its difficult to say
I never in my wildest dreams
Imagined it this way
But sometimes I just dont know you
Theres a stranger in our home
When Im lying right beside you
Is when Im most alone
And I think my heart is broken
Theres an emptiness inside
So many things Ive longed for
Have so often been denied
Still I wouldnt try to change you
Theres no one thats to blame
Its just some things that mean so much
And we just dont feel the same
Love is why I came here in the first place
Love is now the reason I must go
Love is all I ever hoped to find here
Love is still the only dream I know
True love is still the only dream I know

The Best Thing For Me

Years seemingly like
The Dark Ages vaguely
This heart's sight
In Pain lived blindly
No Hope of redemption
Or of being set free
Much like a prison
Sentenced unjustly

Then sunset years
Have awakened late
You're suddenly here
Isn't this a long wait?
Our lives now entwined
It blends perfectly
And this is what I find
You're the best thing for me!
