To Be Frank With You

i've read all the answers
to your questions and to be frank with
you
not one satisfies my discriminating
quest
the words are bland
the deductions are not that logical
enough to appease
my boredom

but i will not fail you
i will let you survive and move on with your life
it is your honesty
that makes you live
it is your persistence
that must punish you
and when your prayers are granted
do not ever think
that the gods are all pleased.

You want answers. Take doubts

You want answers.
There are no answers.
You want some questions.
There are no questions now.
You want something,
There is nothing.
You want this.
There is that.
This and that, they do not
Always come together
And wanting this
You only get that.
See? See.
You want to live in peace
No there is no peace
War has always been with us
You know that, not this.
Oh yes, you want certainties.
You just want to be sure
What is in my hand
Tell me, and I will prove
You wrong, always, I want
To prove you wrong
About certainties, there is
Nothing certain. They just come
When they like coming
And they tell you
You dream, we give
What is best, it may not be what
You are dreaming, or we punish you
By giving what you want
You prayed so earnestly
Oh! These lords these gods
This fate this destiny
They always wait for you
Always hazy, and taken as
X, y, and z
You, it is you that assigns the values
And you can be wrong and even
Still be puzzled.

There is nothing certain.
So?
Well, take the doubts
They are the only things certain
Because they are real.
We live with them everyday.
They are mothers and fathers
And yes, they are gods.

Gertrude Stein is interviewed on American poetry

and there was the knocking on the door
that we were expecting
and it was the man
that we were expecting
with the questions we were expecting
to which answers were expected
by those who expect answers
as if life were like that
which for writers it is not

yes, tea was drunk
and after tea the tape recorder set up
so that what I said
I would continue to say
somewhere else
even when I changed my mind
here and nowhere else

and he said Ms Stein
what do you think of American poetry
and we said well it's American
and it's poetry
that's as it should be
and really that's all there is to say
and the man looked disappointed
so we asked him did he read poetry
and he said poetry no I dont read poetry
but my editor does
so I said it's really about Americans
living their lives
that's what American poetry is really about
because Americans move around
and so their words move around and
words in English have lost their intensity
but American words are always on the move
and they are more intense
yes, Americans living among Americans
and talking to their neighbours
if it's not about that
it's not really American poetry at all is it
if it's not about that
then why bother writing poetry

and the man was asking about a rose
being a rose being a rose and we said
for a hundred years the rose
has not been red in poetry
but now for the first time in a hundred years
the rose is red again

and the man looked at his watch
and said thank you Ms Stein
and was switching off his tape recorder

and a month later that
was what we said
in a magazine much read
by Americans who mostly
are not poets no very few but we said it
we know that this is so
because we read it there
and we think that really
that was all there was to say
because that was all we think
is really important
about American Poetry
that the words move like Americans move
and that is exciting for a writer
and that is the important thing about
American Poetry

Prayers Have Wings You Know

prayers have wings you know
it takes its time and moves slow
but each and every prayer is heard
though you may not hear a word.

the prayers are taken by our guardian angels
to the lord up above
who reads each one with caring and love.
he then puts it in the order received
and then satisfies every ones needs.

so when you say your prayers, day or night
it never leaves gods hearing or sight.
he is there to satisfy our needs
as long as we don't get that greed.

prayers (do) have wings you know
they do not stay in that place called limbo
where they can't be reached.

they are sometimes put in a box
that says incoming mail.
on this the angels do not fail.

so with this thought in mind
i'll leave you untill next time

Where I'm In FAITH!

Within a place that creates completeness in oneself,
a place that needs no obstacles,
a place that needs positive reaction,
negative resolution, and stressful elimination:
powers within oneself to have faith
in the faith G-d has for me.
Seeking a miracle is a waste of my time
for the miracles that come to my life
are truly the miracles of creation,
creation of a strong black woman
who can make all things happen,
who can provide for her family,
who can live without the idea of dying
due to destruction seen before her.
I am a miracle in itself as are you,
our faith in ourselves will benefit us
more than the faith we have in what can be done by prayer;
having faith in what we can do to make our prayers reality,
many of our questions have answers,
having faith, and the courage to know the answers are a given,
we are from the breath of the almighty,
we are the world, we are what he has faith in.
Looking for an easy fix is the thought of an addict,
for I am not an addict for life, I am a solution for living.
Look within my eyes and see the miracle of creation,
copyrighted by God himself,
the creation of perfection in his eyes;
Life was given to us as a gift, as a lesson,
a learning experience
with that gift
we were given the ability to survive,
some survive some just live;
I am a survivor, a creation that makes me full,
full of complete joy for I am a gift to this world,
to myself, to nature, as the world,
and nature is a gift to me;
I am a child of God
with that I know my prayers have answers,
before I ask he gives,
he gives me the ability to be the strength
that you seek,
the power that you need,
the fullness of the empty glass,
the waters that flow, the air that blows,
the rain that pours, the heat that warms
I am a miracle, as are you,
see within your reflection
as your creator seen when he gave you life,
be strong, don’t blame, don’t worry,
do all that you can to make your life the best you can
for the faith that he has in you
can never be measured by numbers
the faith he has is you is much greater
than the faith you have in him,
for he is the almighty,
you are simply the creation!

Couple Of Weeks

What makes a man weak
What makes a man strong
What makes him consider
The first or the latter
What he’s lost
what he’s won
If it all ever really mattered
There’s something about a biopsy
That can cause a man
to ponder
Over all the things he has
And what he’s done
And what’s over the horizon
Yonder

Waiting can do that
To a conflicted man, it’s truth
Makes him conjure up answers
To questions he seeks
Makes him know he’ll have answers
To at least some of the questions
Within a couple of weeks

Instead Of Being A Pessimist

You want answers to your questions?
Ask yourself this...
What began the origin of those questions.
And...
How did they begin for you to exist.

You want a life you like?
Oppose to the one you don't?
Why have you chosen to dislike what you do?
And who enforced this dislike upon you.

Do you live with wishes to fulfill your dreams?
Or are you focused on others,
Who seem to have 'your' things.

Are you focused upon others,
Who seem to be living your life?
Doing those things,
You wish for you also to like?

Perhaps those questions you ask,
Are not yours afterall.
And perhaps those answers,
That have come to you answered...
You ignored them to disbelieve,
Those answers received...
Were not yours.
Because you spend your time,
In the minding of other people's business!

And your business,
You haven't given your time to see...
Succeed.
But your time is spent,
Lamenting others you despise and criticize.

You want answers to your questions?
Wait for therm patiently to come.
Before you impatiently decide,
To get up and leave.
Believing they can be found,
With you not around.

You want answers to your questions?
Ask yourself this...
What began the origin of those questions.
And...
How did they begin for you to exist?
Ask yourself that.
Instead of being a pessimist!

This Disaster

Are you aware
Of how much you complicate me
And are you aware
Your words sufficate me
And dont deny
That your talking behind my back
To your friends
And dont deny
One day you will need me
Need me
All my life
I've been looking for the answers
To the questions
You never asked and
We never planned on this distaster
When will I let it go
So incomplete
Your stare is cold
Unlike anything I've ever seen
So incomplete
Your body is tired
And falling apart at the seams
I wont deny
I took no part in
Never wanting you back
Dont deny
One day you'll need me
Need me
All my life
I've been looking for answers
To the questions
You never asked and
We never planned on this distaster
When will I let it go
All my life
I've been looking for the answers
To the questions
You never asked and
We never planned on this disaster
When will I let it go
If its tonight
Please let me know
If its tonight
Why dont you let me know
All my life
I've been looking for the answers
To the questions
You never asked and
We never planned on this disaster
When will I let it go
All my life
I've been looking for the answers
To the questions
You never asked and
We never planned on the disaster
When will i let it go
All my life
(I've been looking for the answers)
(When will I let it go)
We never planned on this disaster

More Questions Than Answers

There are wars around us daily and the world sleeps,
But read your Bible always to know the facts about all these prophesies!
For there are more questions than answers on this earth,
And like a red mark on the foreheads of mankind.

Of hope in life,
Of power in the name of war,
Of love to the people we care for,
Of faith on the journey on this earth,
And of a sound mind in the land of roses;
But there are more questions than answers on this earth.

Beside the service of two,
Elias came as a surprise to us! !
And like the prophecy that is known to you;
But there are more questions than answers on this earth.

Captured by various lusts,
But we brought nothing to the world and we will take away nothing out of it!
And like our tears after the bombs,
But there are more questions on this earth than answers.

Bombs everywhere! !
And like the corpses after the wars;
But in youthful lusts with green-uniforms like the flesh and blood as seen in Ivory Coast and in Libya!
And the world sleeps because of its many problems.

Questions?

i am tired of questions
all of them
too familiar and all
with ready
homemade answers

canned questions
and answers
in one book
scanned for years
and you all know them

canned laughter
canned faces

canned souls
canned and caned and chained
bones

they rattle and they shake
and roll

i have no answers.
i am throwing all these questions away.

i live everyday. i look at the trees
and the forests.

i simply live. Now.
i have no more questions.

neither will i demand
any answer from you.

go, go, find yourself.
i stay here wanting to find nothing at all.

i guess, after my 48 years
there is this truth
that i find: there is nothing

nothing to find
nothing to expect

nowhere to go
it is just this and this and this.

the one that i have in my hand
the one that i keep on holding
i enclose it and keep it warm
and alive

and you do not even care
this is it: me, myself, and I

In Prayer

in prayer you kneel you make your pleas
you signify
your lowliness in supplication
you behave
like a slave

you mumble you juggle your words
choppy sometimes as you are in deep sorrow
in hunger in thirst
in dire need of comfort
asking wanting that your prayers
be granted

you genuflect to a certain extent
you are crying
you are silent
yet you are so confused and crowded
you need your prayers to be answered
at once
the soonest

you are dying
or someone you love is dying out there
you want to live
you want the other you love to live some years
you want to be together

hence your prayers
some tears fall on the floors now wet and salty
a flood of tears
a rush of a thousand words in supplication
you fall on the floor
face down the earth hands stretching body flat and so tired

i watch you and i pity you and if i were God myself i could have
heard and granted all our prayers

the prayer room is so silent
it is cold tonight and i am too, so confused hearing nothing

outside a storm is raging
the rain so strong like the wind is coming

i close the door and the windows so there may still be silence
so our prayers may be heard

who knows? maybe, maybe, who knows? we must still continue....

A Mother Doesn't Know...

Theirs times that you’re not around.
Theirs times it seems like you don’t care.
Theirs times I don’t see or speak to you.
Theirs times I question you.
Theirs times I don’t even care.
Theirs times I even wish I didn’t know you.
But what would I be without you?
Would I be different or would I be the same?
Have you changed my life?
Or did I change it on my own?
Was I different before?
How come you want nothing to do with me?
You leave me in the dust whenever you have the chance.
Doesn’t seem like you care.
If you do care you have a funny way of showing it.
We use to be like best friends.
I grew up and you kicked me off to the side.
Or did I kick you off?
So many questions.
Not enough answers.
Not enough time to even ask all the questions.
My mind feels like it’s going to explode.
Not enough time in the day to even express my feelings.
Not enough time to share my thoughts.
It never seems to be the right time.
When is the right time?
Is it today or tomorrow?
When will you be there again for me?
You went away so quick I didn’t have a chance to say goodbye.
I guess drinking really got a hold of you.
Some have the will power and others don’t know how to say no.
How could you let drinking get to you?
When you have three kids.
Now two don’t even live with you.
Granted one of them is married.
But the other is still a young child.
Looks at you with disgrace.
You don’t even seem to notice.
While your family is breaking apart you just care about your glass filling up.
How do you live like that?
I know you’re not happy, so what’s bothering you?
You’ve been through a lot granted.
BUT SO HAVE I! !
Look what you’re doing to me.
What you think it doesn’t bother me?
It does but I guess that’s what blindness will do to you.
When will you notice me?
IM RIGHT HERE! !
Pick up the phone and call me sometimes.
Why do I always have to be the bigger person?
I’m supposed to be the kid.
When was I able to be a kid?
When will it be my time?
I’m always there for everyone else.
How come you can’t be there for me?
Your always trying to mess up what I accomplish.
Putting negative thoughts into my head constantly.
Do you want to see me fail?
Well I'm going to tell you right now IM NOT GOING TO FAIL! !
How come you hate me so much?
What did I do to you?
I was always the one that listened to how bad your day was?
I was the one who listened all the time
Who else was their for you?
Dad was always at work.
Sam was never home.
I was I was their.
But you don’t think about that now do you.
Since I left you don’t seem to need me anymore.
Now you have toked my friend to live with you.
But threaten her she will have to leave when she make’s a mistake.
How true are you?
You shad your tears about how much you miss me.
But do you really miss me?
Telling people lies after lies.
Why do you do what you do?
How come you act like that?
Can’t you go back to being yourself?
You’ve changed and I don’t like it.
To be honest not a lot of people like it.
But I guess whatever you want to do you will do.
But this is my time now.
Now you know how I feel.
So don’t ask me again.

When Questioned

To linger in the night requires patience,
Reading the pages of a book.
To wade into the day after sleep
Gains the subjects and goals of life.
We have patience, boredom and denigrated being
When questioned, but hardly do questions
Mean interrogation.
Our quest is stronger in difficulty,
Our leading of the strength we deliver
Is the sharply furious quest.
But where is the night?
It is hidden from us, when strength is applied.

Getting Into You

When I made up my mind
And my heart along with that
To live not for myself
But yet for god
Somebody said
Do you know what you are getting yourself into?
When I finally ironed out
All of my priorities
And asked God to remove the doubt
That makes me unsure of these
Things I ask myself
I ask myself
Do you know what you are getting yourself into?
Im getting into you
Because you got to me
In a way words cant describe
Im getting into you
Because Ive got to be
Youre essential to survive
Im going to love you with my life
When he looked at me and said
I kind of view you as a son
And for a second our eyes met
And I met that with a question
Do you know what you are getting yourself into?
Im getting into you
Because you got to me
In a way words cant describe
Im getting into you
Because Ive got to be
Youre essential to survive
Im going to love you with my life
Ive been a liar and Ill never amount to
The kind of person you deserve to worship you
You say you will not dwell on what I did but rather what I do you say
I love you and thats what you are getting yourself into
Im getting into you (getting into you)
Because you got to me (because you got to me)
In a way words cant describe
Im getting into you (getting into you)
Because Ive got to be (because Ive got to be)
Youre essential to survive
Im going to love you with my life
Im getting into you (getting into you)
Because you got to me (because you got to me)
In a way words cant describe
Im getting into you (getting into you)
Because Ive got to be (because Ive got to be)
Youre essential to survive
Im going to love you with my life
You said I love you and thats what youre getting into

0212 It's just an age thing

it's just an age thing - should you be concerned?
I'll spell it out; it may just clear my mind:
that, in impatient youth, ambition burned
to have the answers to all things defined -

but not, I haste to add, from teacher's notes,
but from experiences uniquely mine:
a random, fun-filled quest to find the goal
which, when defined, would ease the ceaseless strife;

yet now, the mind's so sceptical, and all
that passed for thought, just mental indigestion;
the quest, forgotten, changed, or redefined;
what passed for answers, are now up for question:

it's braver fun, with answers thrown away
to seek the greater questions in this play.

Little Devotional

Well I'm blowing smoke out of your window
And you're slipping back into your dress
You know you were always such a lady
I've always been impressed
But gentlemen
They don't ask questions
Just keep quiet
She'll pay attention
Gentlemen don't ask questions
We could pay attention
I said, "I'm gonna have myself in shambles
Before your folks are up and looking for some answers."
Said, "I'm gonna have myself in shambles
Before your folks are up and looking for some answers."
Well I pictured you in blue
But I have to say I'm more partial to the red
Deep, dark, and devastating
Leaving no question as to where you've been
I calm the crowd by keeping quiet
Move like a shadow up to your matress
Gentlemen don't ask questions
We could pay attention
Do you think he'd be better ('Cause we're down for competition)
Doing what I do best?
Do you think he'd be better (This could all be on purpose)
Doing what I do best?
I said, "I'm gonna have myself in shambles
Before your folks are up and looking for some answers."
Said, "I'm gonna have myself in shambles
Before your folks are up and looking for some answers."
Do you think he'd be better
Doing what I do best?
Do you think he'd be better
Doing what I do best?
Do you think he'd be better ('Cause we're down for competition)
Doing what I do best?
Do you think he'd be better (This could all be on purpose)
Doing what I do best?
I said, "I'm gonna have myself in shambles
Before your folks are up and looking for some answers."
Said, "I'm gonna have myself in shambles
Before your folks are up and looking for some answers."
Said, "I'm gonna have myself in shambles

Our Possibilities

the big typhoon
has left us.

we do not ask
any questions

for instance
why are we born?
where do we go
from here?

you just had
the uncertainty
and you demand
nothing more
nothing less
explanations do not
work anymore
justifications are
not teasers

the possibilities are
what we do everyday

cleaning the yard
sweeping the debris
burning the leaves
making firewood
dusting chairs

there is no need for so much
talk
one mouth is never enough
in this world

after all
we can always live
without ideas
no arguments
can appease us
not even answers
from them
damn experts
and psychics

we can read
Ulysses
we can imagine
another war
in Troy
or another Samson
betrayed

we can switch
to soap operas
and just be
nothing but
ordinary tearjerkers.

what now? quo vadis?
where to? what for?
why?

yes, why above all.
the questions are asking you
and you must answer with the very same questions to the questions

you beg, and they beg too
the answer to the questions

but you have no answers really
you have learned the art of wisdom
its own ways
its own manners of not answering with answers

The power of prayer

You pray a lot and take pride
That your prayers are granted

And you pray some more
Like a monk like a priest,

Sometimes I think about
Prayerful dogs, what if their
Prayers are granted too

Bones and more bones
Would surely rain from
The heavenly skies.

Oh yes, I pray, but if my
Prayers are not granted,

I still know that God loves me
He thinks my wants are not the best

For me, and he reserves the rest.
That really suits me best.

No Prayer For The Dying

there are times when i wondered
and times when i cried
when my prayers they were answered
at times when i've lied
but if you asked me a question
would i tell you the truth
now there's something to bet on
you've got nothing to lose

when i've sat by the window
and gazed at the rain
with an ache in my heart
but never feeling the pain
if you would tell me
just what my life means
walking in a long doar
never reaching the end

god give me the answers to my life
god give me the answers to my dreams
god give me the answers to my prayers
god give me the answers to my being
